John Tortorella on Marty Biron… “We don’t get it into overtime without some of his saves.  That is good news for us, not just tonight but for the future.”

Marian Gaborik on tonight’s game… “It wasn’t a pretty game to watch but it was a tight game. We got two points and that’s the most important thing. Marty (Biron) was great in net and I think everybody chipped in and everybody helped the team to win.”

Ruslan Fedotenko on tonight’s game… “He (Biron) came out really good.  I thought the whole team played really well.  I thought we did much better in the second period and I thought in the third period we found a way to win.”

Woohoo. Short lived as I’m sure the postmania will continue. I’d like to thank the academy…

i gotta say, boneheads were in rare form tonight from start to finish… AND we also had some technical, intelligent hockey comments also (usually the case when CT is here, not to slight our other technical, intelligent hockey commentators )

  3. Continued to be impressed by Boyle tonight. Sauer is a complete player and I love watching him play. He plays defense the way it is meant to be played and he isn’t shy about jumping into the play for a scoring chance or smart pinch. He has an edge to his game.

Artem Anisimov is the best center on the team. You have to think the Sather master plan has him centering Gaborik sometime soon, no?

When is Avery going to start scoring goals? I feel like his ice time has gradually been taken away over the last few games.

Carp, you are a pro. Good work man.

  4. LindaCalPrustBoylahan on

great time tonight guys, youse were all awesome (as were beth and nor and even silent Ria chimed in)!! Catch yas tomorrow!!

  5. Yay! I’ll have to catch up tomorrow. Seems like I missed a good night. Sigh. And so goes my luck this week :) Til tomorrow all. Ta!

  6. Performance was still a bit meh, first period aside, but good to see them come out on the right side of things at the end for a change. Was fully expecting the late exchange of PPs to end up the usual way.

And I didn’t Kovalchuk all over the bathroom tonight. (“Don’t puke on the logo!”)

My last game out here tonight, so I will be back to occasional technical, intelligent hockey comments on here the rest of the year.

  7. Yeah I like Sauer isn’t afraid to get his nose dirty, he should really have a lock on the 3rd pairing for the time being. Gilroy just doesnt impress overall. His offensive game, what got him to the NHL in the first place has disappeared.

I’d keep the AA/Dubi/Cally line together. It’s been a while since the Rangers had a line that kept intact for games on end. Look around at the better teams in the league and their top lines tend to be kept together for long periods. Call it continuity or chemistry, it does matter.

Boyle 7 goals, the 15 year man to the West of MSG has 3 (the other 15 year man to the East has virtually lost his job to a 40 year old). Plus Boyle doesn’t have an epic fail shootout attempt that makes Nostrils attempt in game 82 look like Forsberg’s gold medal winner from 1994.

  8. Why is EC centering the top line with Gaborik. It makes NO sense. We have at least 2 better centers in AA and Dubi. It doesnt make sense to stick your worst – a career journeyman – with your best.

    great job as always!!

don’t let your bear drive your iphone home if it has been drinking!!

thanks for the comments earlier…you rock!!!

I know I have been saying this for a couple of weeks now, but MDZ needs to sit a game, he is really bad defencively right now. On the pseudo breakaway by neidermeyer, eminger had to come all the way across the ice from our offencive zone to stop neidermeyer in our defencive zone because MDZ just did nothing!

Gabby needs different linemates than he had tonight, that is definite!

Avery made some good plays, but needs more icetime and needs to step up his yapping!

Speaking of step, are we really sure that stepan isn’t the second coming of goneau??

I still like feds game, and I think he was a good signing.

    Prust is awesome!!!

lastly, and honestly the most important thing….Stop with the DUBI KISS crap, it is the KISS OF DEATH!!!! Ever since the “dubi kiss” game, stepan HAS BEEN goneau!! Dubi’s kiss jinxed him, so enough with the KISS OF DEATH!!!

  10. Orr – Gaborik is our top line. EC doesnt belong with him. I see your point, though. Boyle ought to get the nod, or even Stepan. But enough with this EC.

wicky – Happy Veterans Day to you personally, and also Mama wanted someone to pass along her Veterans Day thanks to you as well.

    btw, before I forget..

Stop with the DUBI KISS crap, it is the KISS OF DEATH!!!! Ever since the “dubi kiss” game, stepan HAS BEEN goneau!! Dubi’s kiss jinxed him, so enough with the KISS OF DEATH!!!

    night assens!!

  12. wicky© (Our D is a bunch of poussins and belongs in MAMBY PAMBY LAND!!!!) on

thanks bro and now you made me laurel!! (thanks laurel)

  13. Gabby needs to start off slow. You can’t expect him to just get back to the top of his game so quickly, after coming back from a separated shoulder

Are we not always complaining aboot line shuffling? We finally have a consistent line, and it should be left alone.

  14. Watching NHL Network right now….lmao because I just highlights of the Caps game and heard Beninati say they were “dropping the mittens”… what a clown…

  15. Oh yeah….Fedotenko is doing really well for us. I like this guy’s game. He’s not flashy, he just grinds it out and does the ugly, dirty work along the wall and in front. Very good and versatile player. When he does score, it is almost always a big goal.

  16. Hard game to watch… Rangers didnt play all that well and the refs continue to ruin the game.

Was Avery playing tonight at all?

Giannone is an asshat. Way to put AA on the spot with those questions! Idiot, the kid does not speak good English… why are you mumbling so fast? I felt bad for the kid and kind of disrespected. I have noticed that from Giannone before too…the way he interviews foreign players…he makes up those long convoluted questions… dumbo.

Agree on some posts about MDZ… if his name was Redden people on here would be all over him.

  17. Blue Seat Horror on

If Del Zotto wasn’t so young and allowed to make mistakes because he is learning, I’d be calling him Del Notto. But he was a little better with his passing tonight (or Buffalo was just worse at intercepting them). Still needs help in the D-zone. Thanks to Roszival’s injury he won’t be sitting in any press box. They’re not bringing anyone up from Hartford. He’ll be in the line-up for the next 6-9 days.

  18. wicky© (Our D is a bunch of poussins and belongs in MAMBY PAMBY LAND!!!!) on

    no, 6 to 9 days!!

    sorry, had to!!!

    laurel #2!!

    later assens!

  19. Did you really feel that Gilroy wasn’t up to speed on his game last night? I wonder why. After all the ice time he has been given, and a chance to show what he can do?

He was not impressive? I find that hard to believe.

And for the life of me I cannot find anything wrong at all in the play of Eminger. He’s been doing everything that a major league defense man should be doing, and on top of that he has one terrific shot from the blue line. I’d like to see him routinely on the PP.

  20. And when is the league going to do something about these refs? Another of those split second whistles to take a goal away in a critical game, and almost for the same reason. …………………….and wasn’t
Fedotenko the victim on the other quick whistle a game or so ago? I’ve never seen goals disallowed for such spurious reasons.

  21. I see nothing but hustle and great passing from Avery! Torts should stop juggleing lines and leave well enough alone when it comes to the grinders. Why the hell is White still on this team? Even on the 4th line he is as usefull as Redden in front of the net on a 2 on 1

  22. Jlone2Bubblehead on

    Gday all!

I might be in the minority about a few things, but here goes. I like EC centering Gabby. I would love to see Avery EC gabby. Both EC and Avery can make plays and handle the puck. There is grit as well as skill. probably not the most defensive line to be put together, but man that sounds like fireworks to me.

Rosival is not that bad this year. Yes he turns the puck over at bad times. is he alone in that? When is a good time to turn it over?

White is gone when Drury gets back if not sooner. I just dont see where drury is going to fit into this team, but i am excited to find out. Prospal… Not sure what he will add or even if he can add anything this year. either way i miss his goofy face in uniform.

  23. Doodie Machetto on

“I see nothing but hustle and great passing from Avery!”

Then you’re obviously not watching all of the turnovers and awful defensive play.

  24. Doodie Machetto on

“And when is the league going to do something about these refs? Another of those split second whistles to take a goal away in a critical game, and almost for the same reason. …………………….and wasn’t
Fedotenko the victim on the other quick whistle a game or so ago? I’ve never seen goals disallowed for such spurious reasons.”

Exactly fran. The Rangers didn’t just have to beat the Sabres last night, they had to beat the Zebras too.

  25. The Rangers D seems to be reverting to their gliding, stick-checking ways, particularly late in the game. Are they just getting tired, or are they getting to be afraid of body contact?

How many times have the Rangers scored late in a period only to give it back seconds later? This should never happen, except when your defense goes brain dead.

  26. With Avery relegated to the 4th line last night combined with the fact that he doesn’t do PK or PP, his minutes and therefore his opportunties nto impact the game were limited. As for the crazy calls by the refs, I’ve been watching long enough to know that these things tend to even out in the long run. Yes, this has been a tough stretch for the refs towards the Rangers, but I don’t see a grand conspiracy here.

  27. They were lucky to win last night. After the first there was turn over after turn over. Torts had better address that, they looked a lot like last years team. EC go home. I realise that is not very fair, but his game has not been good. It would not be so bad if he could just win a faceoff. You can’t make plays if you don’t have the pill. Torts will have to address that also. The guy centering the top gun has to win faceoffs. I thought Frolov was a bit better last night, but that line was not very effective period. Sauer was good, and plays better each time out. I still believe that Gilroy will be a very good D man, if he gets the chance to play. DZ seems to be struggeling, as does Staal. Hopefully they will get through it. Emminger has been solid lately. Avery seems to be getting his ice time cut back some. I guess White is still there because of the injurys. Biron has been very good. Over all not bad so far.
