Because, I guess, he was taking up too much ice time from the productive Erik Christensen and Todd White.
Seriously, it’s probably best that he goes down and plays a lot of pro minutes instead of rotting on a vine with Boogaard.
Here’s the announcement:
NEW YORK RANGERS TRANSACTION UPDATE
New York, November 8, 2010 – New York Rangers President and General Manager Glen Sather announced today that forward Evgeny Grachev has been assigned to the Hartford Wolf Pack of the American Hockey League (AHL).
Grachev, 20, skated in six consecutive games following his recall on October 28. He was credited with four hits while making his NHL debut on October 29 vs. Carolina, and logged a season-high, 10:13 of ice time in Friday’s 3-0 win at New Jersey.
Last season, the 6-4, 224-pounder led all Hartford rookies in assists (16), points (28) and power play goals (four), and tied for first on the Wolf Pack in goals (12). Grachev also tied for sixth on the team in goals, eighth in points and ninth in assists. He registered five multi-point efforts, including three multi-goal performances, and recorded a season-high, four-game scoring streak from October 9 at Providence to October 16 at Portland (one goal and three assists). Grachev notched his first professional point with a power play goal on October 9 at Providence, and made his professional debut on October 3 at Binghamton.
The Khabarovsk, Russia native was originally the Rangers’ third round choice, 75th overall, in the 2008 NHL Entry Draft.
The Rangers will continue their longest homestand of the season, tomorrow, November 9, when they face-off against the Washington Capitals at Madison Square Garden (7:30 p.m.). The contest is the second game of the four-game homestand for the Blueshirts, who will host the Buffalo Sabres on Thursday, November 11, before closing out the homestand against the Edmonton Oilers in a matinee match-up on Sunday, November 14.

Drat! Repost.
The White mistake is fixing the mistake of signing Brashear, which fixed the mistake of letting Colton Orr go, also Brashears departure prompted the necessity for the Boogaard mistake. Sather fixed the Redden mistake so he could sign the Frolov mistake which was supposed to fix the Zherdev mistake which was meant to fix the Naslund mistake who was acquired to fix the Gomez/Drury mistakes which prompted Jagr’s departure mistake.
Slats can’t even fix his own mistakes without making another one to fix next year. And keeping him as GM/Prez is the biggest mistake of all.
Gachev is young, but has been underwhelming in my opinion. He does not look motivated out there. I’d like to see him throw around his 6’4” frame a bit. He needs to take skating lessons from Brian Boyle. If he can improve this much in one off-season, there is still hope for other big guys like Grachev.
now, that i got that out of the way
don’t understand why Boo played in place of
White last night since i don’t believe there is any
major threat from the blues.
also,
why not let Grachev at least be around for the homestand
since we were playing a lot of games in a short amount of time.
i’m hoping Carp and/or others ask Torts about his views on
Grachev—how he did here, why he was sent down…..blahblahblah
sometimes he looked tentative and a bit lost
since i didn’t watch last night’s game i haven’t seen every shift by him
but he didn’t look like he had the playmaking ability or hunger for heading to the
net and score that you find with Stepan.
maybe someone who noticed him could elaborate.
wow! Izzy
that was a great post
but not i can add dizziness to
my throbbing headache.
maybe the Rangers should hire Boyle’s skating teacher fulltime before a smarter club does.
I don’t know if Boyle wants to share her with the team.
Aside from Boogy lacking physical ability to skate and play the game, he has no hockey sense. You would think he could anticipate where the puck is going, and maybe arrive in relative time to make a hit. He just doesn’t belong in the NHL.
He is the Manute Bol of the NHL.
>>...Reddenville
That is SO wrong!
But funny!
Haha… Izzy. Awesome.
I still think this team is in general, more fun to watch then they have been for years.
>>He is the Manute Bol of the NHL.
Only if Boogaard could block shots.
From previous post, that ‘tank on the Whalepack also has the best +- on the blueline…which isn’t saying much because he’s only +2. I’d love to see Valentenko get a shot with the Rangers.
Good afternoon all! Anybody have a job for the newly unemployed ? :) Am willing to move…..Happy Monday!
Sorry to hear mama. . . . .I think Obama said he found jobs in India last week!!! Not sure you wanna move that far. Where do you live and what do you do?
Yes, Izzy, the common denominator in all the mistakes is Slats. He’s 100 years old, but we’re still waiting for him to show his alleged “expertise”.
“Slats can’t even fix his own mistakes without making another one to fix next year. And keeping him as GM/Prez is the biggest mistake of all.”
Well stated.
Byfuglien, Mama. Carcillo!
mama
can you nanny???
Sather never had any expertise. just some dumb luck early on in Edm
what people don’t realize is that he simply was the benefactor of 2 WHA teams going bankrupt. the Oilers were a WHA team, and the Cinncinati Stingers, who drafted Messier, and the Indianapolis Racers, who drafted Gretzky, both had money problems and had to sell their assets. thus, Old Fogey Stogey Sather got the benefit of 2 great players simply by being the GM of the WHA team with less money troubles at the time than the other teams.
he also, later on, in the NHL, because of money problems of the Oiler owner, traded off the great Oiler players, including Gretzky, Messier, Graves , Beuk etc
IOW, he helped the Rangers far more when he was in charge in Edm than he did since he came to NY
I understand the economy and the health of newspapers. But why Laurel???? Im hoping with all hope that’s a joke. If it’s not a joke, we all love you Mama and will be there for anything you need.
No joke Tiki! But it’s all good in its own way. Now I can be here as much as I want.

Being a retired teacher I don’t know how I can help but if there was any way I could, I would.
Thanks coach…..I’ll survive. I’m trying to say positive. Time for something new anyway.

Sorry to hear about your job loss. I am judging by the way you handle yourself here, I have to say your employment woes will be short lived. There is always a place in the working world for intellegent, organized, creative, hard working people like yourself.
Fire Sather hire Mama!
I know the Anisimov/Dubi/Cally line has been really good, but I wonder if Grachev could get a look alongside Anisimov next time…
Hire Mama!!
Im on board. Fire Sather HIRE MAMA!
New York Rangers President and General Manager Glen Sather announced today that …
that New YorK Rangers President and General Manager will retire after this season !!!
How would they write this headline ????
Or would they find another beginning of announcing that fact ????
The organization which is not willing to go through growing pains with young players, is doomed to mediocrity and failure until it finds the internal strength and the patience to do so. Hey, we know finishing 8th in the conference and getting bounced out in the first round of the playoffs is acceptable to ownership and management, here. Not making the playoffs this year, in deference to winning the Stanley Cup in three years, is unthinkable. My God how Dolan and Sather deserve eachother. Match made in Heaven.
Ha! Thanks for your support and kind words all. It means a lot. Gonna take a break now and take care of some business regarding being out of business :) Later!
It all started with the Lindros mistake, even given how little the club surrendered in return. He was the first of a long line of sulky-attitude, overpaid, downside, spoiled brat, fathead, no spirit or commitment mercenaries to come here under Sather. Why does Sather being GM here seem like an eternal chain gang, broiling hot sun labor sentence? Why can’t the idiot owner prohibit his moronic GM from going on a shopping spree in the FA market for ONE SEASON?
Do we need a Mama car wash ?
Grachev showed nothing. He deserved to be sent down no matter what line he played on or how many minutes he got. White and Christensen should be next.
I’m out!
Later assens!
Grachev did as well as he could have, playing on the 4th line. Hopefully it turns into a positive, and it boosts his game down with the Whalf Pack.
sorry to hear that Mama!
good luck!!
i could use an agent!!!
Carp-
You ever hear that story about Game 4 of the ‘94 Finals. Just before Pavel Bure’s going to take his penalty shot, Messier went over to Mike Richter to give him a heads up on what to expect from Bure.
Richter said, “Gotcha” and then as he’s looking in the stands he says “Hey, look! Isn’t that John Candy?” Cool as a cucumber.
Actually, John Candy passed March 4 of that year. The same day Richter played in his 200th NHLgame. Tempus Fugit
Sorry about your news Mama! Maybe you could be Avery’s personal assistant!
Interesting story, dde….More like Memento Mori..
dde, you’re joking, right? the John Candy line/story was supposedly Joe Montana in the Super Bowl.
John Candy got a lot of tickets to a lot of important games I guess?!?
Joe Montana is the one that made the John Candy reference.
Next thing ya know, someone is gonna say Mess was the guy that pointed over the wall with 2 strikes on him!!!
I think Messier was actually staring down Spike Lee when he hit the empty net goal against the Devils in Game 6, 1994!!!
Wow, sorry Mama- time to concentrate on your artwork.
Those EPL defenders must not be very bright. Why are they always crashing heads with forwards? Elbows up, lads!
I’m kidding, I’m kidding. Yes, it was ‘supposably’ Joe Montana.
“Hey Mess, Check it out, isn’t that Joe Montana!?”
i don’t believe the Montana story, either.
Who is John Candy?
I love these things
New York Rangers President and General Manager Glen Sather announced today…
announced that he just copied and pasted standard “I’m the boss around here” template? lol
or did he actually came down to the middle of the MSG ice took a mic, cleared his throat and went ‘1-2, 1-2 check… ahem… Evgeny Grachev has been assigned to the Hartford Wolf Pack of the American Hockey League (AHL). My name is Glen ‘failure’ Sather, and i, of course, approve this message’
I think someone on a blog somewhere started that story, Carp.
Time to take Booger and put him in front of the opposing goalie during the power play. God knows he’s useless in every other way. If that wide body can’t set up a good screen at the very least he might get hit with a slapper from the point and break something. Oh, and FIRE SATHER!!
CCCP-
When you’re asleep tonight you should go to download.com and get yourself some anti-virus software.
I appreciate the effort in trying to spread the good news about the Rangers though.
Laurel
i am sorry about your job
The paper will regret this because as always… you never know what you got until you lose it! :)
Do you like to dance? I always hear about exotic dancer job being available!
“Wasting away again in Margareddenville…searching for my lost d-game and shot…”
Carp – I appreciate your efforts too, forget to say it sometimes.
ddebened
that was a very freaky dream! very vivid, too! i couldn’t sleep after that…
being stuffed with Burger King at 5:30 am wasn’t helping either!
“Carp – I appreciate your efforts too, forget to say it sometimes.”
__
Same here. Thanks Carp for all the hard work you do and for your friendly interaction with us. Gannett is lucky to have you, and will soon regret not having Mama.
Sorry to hear Mamma. Headzo says stay headstrong…
Mama – sorry to hear about your job. Having been there myself about a year ago, it’s not easy. Be diligent about searching and something will happen. You have an advantage since you are willing to move. That is how I landed a job, too – being able to relocate (to PA). Good luck…
Mama – keep networking and something will come up. In the meantime file that unemployment claim!
I have never been real confident that Grachev would become even a third line NHL’er. I watched a lot of Hartford games last season, and he was not very impressive. During these few games he has been up with the Rangers, I could see him cracking the line up and being a good solid forward some where in the future, but not the near future, he’s still a ways away. It is for his benefit that he is sent down for more quality ice time. Really though he was as, or more effective as a few of the guys still there, kutos to him.
Leetchhall
If they do get him to stand in front of the net, he’ll have plenty of room, for you never see any other Rangers there.
What is this about Mama? She got sent down? As someone who has been fired from more jobs than all of you collectively have ever held, I sympathize with you. But I tell you…never give up, always stay positive, and what one famous show biz personality once declared who was so famous that I lost track of who it was,”never let them see you sweat!” At least you have the consolation, of never having had to work for a boss, who when he fired you, you also got a punch in the mouth. That was
one of the trucker brothers from old EetalEE, who were actually good fellas. I had the good sense to quit before I killed myself on the highway…and I had some very close calls.
Take good care of her fellas, she’s one of our treasures.
Good link – shows stats for all Rangers Prospects on one page.
We got this AHL kid tied for his team lead in assists(8) which is also more than all defensemen on his team COMBINED.
http://rangers.nhl.com/club/page.htm?id=64188
Carp,
I think Dubi said it best-they need to simplify their game @ home. They need to KISS it (as i have stated many times previously)
Keep
It
Simple
Stupid
They are trying to make it way too complicated on the PowerPlay. I mean why not give Eminger atleast a sniff on the PP its not like any of the other d-man besides MDZ looked good at all on the 5 minute major- and that includes MR STAAL who IMO has been the 4th best d-man of the year and that too me is one of the biggest stories so far this year….and with 12 minutes to play that is where you must find a way to put the puck in the back of the net when you are @ home and done a goal with a MAJOR opportunity
I had an opportunity for another husky. I still may have it… My brother has a friend that found a homeless abused, underfed Husky a few days ago. He was going to get the husky from them for me, but the husky ran away. Theyre looking for him; I hope they find him :(
Grachev looked ready last year and should have made the team then. I think starting off in the AHL hurt his confidence. Unlike, say a Zuccarello, Grachev knew the North American game coming into both NYR camps, having played in the OHL for Brampton and quite frankly dominating in it. There is no way he would have been a 3rd rounder if people knew the numbers he was about to put in juniors. He probably would have went late first round. He came into NYR camp in 2009-10 confident to make the team. I remember seeing in pre-season games and he looked great. Better than Lisin, Higgins, Kotalik, etc…
I think Grach’s confidence is hurt again because he didnt make it this year and because Gernander has had him playing 3rd line cetner in the A this year. The only way he develops into a legit top-6 NHL foward is if he play top-6 minutes. It is frustrating that guys like Byers, DuPont, and Williams are getting top minutes when kids like Grachev are relegated to third line duty. The point of an AHL farm team is develop talent not win the Calder Cup. Unless you are the Capitals with their Hershey Bears.
Can someone tell me what exactly Schoenfeld is doing as GM of the Wolf Pack? How about making a move? Like….Fire Gernander!
I was looking at the Wolfpa——- i mean… Whale page… they suck this season. 4-8-3 or something like that. Zuccarello is tied for the team lead with 6 goals, McDonagh and Valentenko haven’t done squat.
dde- this AHL kid is taking home more money than Gaborik..
deservedly so, ilb – the kid can really move the puck
Zuccarello seems to be adjusting to the North American hockey style. A hatrick in one periode, without playing much for the rest of the match, is good news for MZA and Ranges. His an entertaining player with special qualities and should be a hit when his confidence is boosted. His getting there soon, I belive.
On my first visit to the Big Apple, I had the pleasure to see Mark Messier honored by retiring his jersey #11. On my second visit to NYC in Desember I hope to see MZA at the bigging of a long and successful career in Rangers.
Question of the day:
what would you do to have John Davidson instead of Slats?
I am looking to MZA making the big club. He has lots of talent, he is small, but small, skilled guys can succeed in the NHL today. I really think he could help this team. As far as getting used to the speed of the NHL game goes, He looked pretty good in the olympics playing for Norway.
what would you do to have John Davidson instead of Slats?
———
Move to St. Louis?
Is there anyone out who could tell me if there are any sites that stream AHL games? I used to watch the Wolfpack a lot last year, but I can’t find any streams this year.
hockeymon – I’ve only seen http://ahl.neulion.com/ahl/
$ though
Guys, and girls! Please don’t talk aboot MZA, because none of us are not allowed to have an opinion on him. Those are apparently the rules :P
Go Yotes!
Now, what would I do to have JD over Slats? I’d do more than I would for a Klondike bar.
on right now at NHL Network
Frozen In Time featuring Mark Messier
blogmama – first time checking the comments today (I get the RSS feed with no comments on my phone), but better late than never. Sorry to hear about your newly acquired free time. Unfortunately, I can empathize, and I hope for the best for you.
Thanks all! As long as I can be here I’m fine…ta for tonight! later all! TA!
>>what would you do to have John Davidson instead of Slats?
FIRE at Sather?
Keep your chin up, Blogmama! I hope you land something real soon.
guys, grachev is not fast enough imo to help that 4th line. he shouldve played up with frolov and avery or feds. not boogaard. no offense but colton orr has more goals than avery, fedotenko, prust, grachev, white, and has as many as frolov and and christensen. only players with moer are boyle stepan(who needs to step UP or hes gonna be in redden and grachev town soon,), cally, duby and artie. i mean, with gabby out, prospal, drury, i would hope guys like grachev and step would take advantage of any playing time they get. i knew grachev wasnt great in teh preseason, but ona team without 3 top forwrads, and not much star power to begin with, i didnt think it would be that hard for him to get on teh team and stick. at least longer than the few games he got. even though i’d rather see him play over white, or christensen, those 2 have abetter chance of gettinga damn goal once in awhile. i havent seen grachev do much of anything offensively.
Thanks DD, but I am not going to give them $7,00 a game.
babs!!! hey im so glad i seen you here. gota little story for ya. i was on my daily commute to work on I-80, and got behind a car witha new york license plate. the license plate read” babs” and some numbers after it. i swear i thought it could be you for a sec. lol. so i got in the left lane to pass, and its a 90 yr old granny who was hunched over the steerin wheel. i said ohh hartnell! and just smiled and waved. she just looked me at funny. haha i miss the new york attitude. i am all waving and smilin liek a dork and shes probably like, yea whatever weirdo.
Boyle skating coach hired by Dallas by the way.
Show you how little the preseason really means.
Fedotenko=wasted roster spot
Frolov=wasted roster spot
Boogard=boo boo
Rangers lack team speed. Gabby will help but Drury won’t. Prospal maybe done. For such a young team they are slow as carcillo.
lol

Is this thing on?
Can i get a FIRE SATHER?
Speaking of rotting on the vine, it’s been over 2 weeks since Gilly played. Time to get Gilly a few games, or send him to Hartford. I don’t understand sitting him this long. How can he improve by not playing? And can his potential trade value do anything but decrease? I think Sauer and Eminger have played fairly well though.
If Gilly can relax a little maybe he ‘d give us a little help offensively.
Grabachev – you put the ‘ba’ in Grachev
Surely:
FIRE SATHER!
C note!!
never mind…dde…...
night assens!!
Mama, first time checking in today and I wanted to say how sorry I am to hear about what happened to you. As you know I went through that very recently and somehow landed a job offer a 1,000 miles from home the day after my old one was finished, so I am confident that you will land another job very quickly. If you need anything, you know how to get ahold of me. Stay positive.
I dont see the merit of bringing Grachev up to play 4 minutes. If we’re bringing up kids like Geno or MZA they need to play with our skilled players rather than 4th line.
I think its got to be”Frodo time”!
p.s. sorry to hear about Mama, happy hunting
Mandlebaum!
This is fully truthful. I was researching on this focus and I agree with your ideas
Your post aided me in my seminary project in time.
