Redden’s final hours

Wade Redden will clear waivers at noon today and, presumably, will be assigned to Hartford (AHL).

Redden is telling people he still wants to play in the NHL (and has been given permission to try to secure a deal to play in Europe).

Well, unless I’m terribly mistaken, there’s a way for Redden to play in the NHL again. All he has to do is refuse to report to Hartford, thus allowing the Rangers to nullify his contract, and that would make him an unrestricted free agent. Some team would sign him, without a doubt, at $1M or $2M per year. Maybe even more.

So what I’m saying is, if Redden really wants to play in the NHL again, then all he has to do is prove that it’s not about the money.

If he wants to continue to collect his riches from the Rangers—the four remaining years at $6.5M per—he’ll never see the NHL again.

Your choice, Wade.
