The first night of Life after Redden begins tonight with this forewarning from me:
And I’ve said this about the captain, and I’ll say this about Michal Rozsival, and others. If the contract hadn’t been so obscene, we probably wouldn’t look at Wade Redden this way.
If it wasn’t so out-of-whack, this wouldn’t be necessary. I don’t honestly believe the Rangers have six better defensemen than Wade Redden, or at least not much better. If he was making $2.5M per, he’d make the team and play a lot, if not every night.
That said, it’s good and right that he’s been expunged, because he stunk a lot of nights during his ill-fated, never-should-have-happened Rangers tenure. And we all knew it was wrong right from the start, didn’t we? A lot of his stinking was from his own lack of effort or care, too.
PS, I love all those people who said they’d never do this, when anybody with half a brain (and that includes me, I guess) knew they would. You think eating that money makes MSG suits blink? Have you even heard of the Knicks?

I liked valentenko’s game a lot and semenov played physical. I think they both should hopefully be in our top six. XLB did one thing well in front of hank, then was penalized and pretty much was invisible the rest of the game…..goner! grachev=htfd….....newbury, I’d seen play a couple times with detroit, wouldn’t mind seeing him at 4th line centre. gilroy was ok, eminger ok. I’d rather have either one of those two than rozy…hell i’d take redden over rozy. I think kennedy and feds both have a serious shot at the final 23.
Best thing of all is our team had a bunch of physical guys that beat the devils with many of their starters in the line up by being physical all the time….how refreshing form all the soft teams we have had since the lockout. play the majority of these guys with gabby and frolov and we will have a good season.

I know it’s only two games but things are starting to get clearer.
Goal is obvious with Lundqvist and Biron
Defense if they keep 7 is, Staal, Girardi, Del Zotto, Roszival, Gilroy, McDonagh, and Semenov. I think McDonagh’s game the other night hastened Redden’s waiver move.
Fwds – Gaborik, Stepan, Frolov, Callahan, Dubinsky, Drury, Anisimov, Prospal, Boorgaard, Prust, Avery, Boyle, Fedetenko
with White, Kennedy, Christenson, and Zuccarello fighting it out for the last spot. Zuccarello will probably go to Hartford to get used to the NHL game for a little bit. He has not shown much offense in camp or the one game he played so far. I prefer he goes to Hartford with the lack of minutes he will probably get with NYR anyway.
It’s reasonable for 2 kids to make the team each year – Del Zotto and Gilroy last year, Stepan and McDonagh this year.
Let’s face it…those first 4 goals were all Henrik’s babies. He’d fallen back into the old goal tending from his knees, and they took rightful advantage of it. He settled down a bit later ( as they all did). this bunch of guys new to one another, trying to get their sea legs. They finally managed, and the Devils were so giddy all night long about trying to get a piece of Avery that they simply forgot what they were there for. ( I couldn’t help laughing at the perpetual “Wha’ ..who… me?” attitude, by Avery, knowing that the Devs were gnawing each others spinal columns to get at him.
The play was disjointed and sloppy at first, but you could see that there is some real talent there ( who is this Newbury?) I thought that the Williams kid looked fairly competent, and I did not see Exelby do anything wrong, or anything outstanding. He was as ordinary as most of them.
Fedotenko surprised me a bit..he played a better game thanI had expected. Semenov too. Again, one of the first starts…any conclusions drawn from this about keeping or discarding should be put on the shelf for a few more games, before making ANY judgments. Who was good tonite, may well be lousy next time, and vice versa. Take it slow and very calculatingly.No emotional outbursts sil,vous plait.
Thaaat’s the way. I enjoyed the game. But those idiotic mike men, did you notice what I referred to about the Ranger’s crew and their incessant sideline chatter instead of following play by play? These guys are even worse if such a thing is possible. I spent much of the game just trying to determine who was on the ice. They never mentioned the guys names or numbers even though they must know that they are all new to us.
I tell you folks ..the only place you will find true amateurism, in these games will be in the broadcast booths.
Wicky – I love Valentenko’s game too but he’s probably set for Hartford for this year. Hopefully, he will be up later this season or out of camp next year. All accounts are that he needs to work on his foot work. He will be a stud when he’s ready. Plus, the numbers aren’t in his favor until we get rid of Roszival.

I thought Gilroy looked pretty good in the last half of the game. I don’t know what anyone was expecting from him. He’s not gonna be the physical bruiser that the team needs, and was never supposed to be. His game is offense, and he had a PP goal, and he helped set up the game winner in his first pre-season game. In fact, he made Del Z switch spots with him, and Del Z went down low where Cally eventually set him up 10 seconds or less later, so that was a good call on his part. He definitely deserves a spot on this team.
Anyway, does anyone know how Sanguinetti is doing with the Canes? I’m still curious aboot him.
