Good morning, ‘heads!
It’s 5:30 pm here so I guess I do have an advantage. Anyway, we were kayaking all day and saw different animals and birds. One of them is called Blue Penguin. Small bird with large lips (beak). Was LMAO until mrs asked what was so funny. Had I told her that between the name and the appearance it reminded me of Crosby, she’d take me to the local mental institution…
21 – Chris Higgins – who “couldn’t hit a barn with a shovel” if I remember correctly :}
21 will always be Pete Stemkowski for me. Stemmer was a favorite of mine as a kid, and had one of the most famous Ranger goals ever: triple overtime vs the Black Hawks in the 1970 semifinals.
Tomorrow Paul O’Neill has to catch a fly ball in his hat.
Camille (The Eel) Henry in the late 50’s early 60’s.
Bruce Maher NY giants 1970’s
and Tiki (big mouth, look at me now) barber one of my least favorite giants, there was something about him I disliked.
And blackjack

LMAO! I’ve more recently focused all my energies on trying to forget Sandiz Ozolinsh!
Higgins, my nickname for him is Shiggins-bottom!

Chuck – Im pretty sure the MLB gets a piece of all jersey sales. The Yankees jerseys with names on the back are considered replica jerseys iirc, as are proper Yankees jerseys without the material of the $160 ones. Replica or authentic, the MLB gets their cut.
Also, a fun FYI, the Yankees players – on the field – dont have the brand on their jerseys. For example, this year, the MLB jerseys’ brand are Majestic. The Yankees get fined something like $1 million per year by MLB for not having the Majestic logo on their jersey. However, the authentic versions as bought in-store or online have the Majestic logo.
__
And my variation of Carp’s Clemens’ nickname: “Filthy Red Sox Cheat”
Ah missed the jersey discussion. Like CR I do have an obsession with getting the authentic jerseys. I tend to scour for good deals on them and last year MSG had a deep discount on everything at the team store for AmEx holders and then the other week I found a deal on a Canadian equipment seller that had a good clearance deal on authentic jerseys. Anyway, my list:

Rangers:
Blue Reebok Edge; Staal and Del Zotto
White Reebok Edge; Gaborik
White Reebok (pre-Edge, wife pulled some strings at her job); autographed Lundqvist
White CCM (1994); Leetch with the A
Somewhere in a box in one of my parents houses:
White CCM; Detroit Fedorov
White CCM; Toronto Gilmour
Black CCM (1994); Vancouver Bure
Mets:
All-white (non-pinstripe); Reyes
Black alternate; Wright
Grey; Santana
Throwback 1986 (worn in 2006); Beltran
Johnny, My pen’s almost out of ink and you might get half a P or something.
What i`ll never understand about Wade Redden (previous post comments) is that he could easily stay in the lineup if we was to go to Management and say ``I, clearly, am not worth my salary. I want the best for the Rangers, and I want to stay here. Let`s re-work my contract so I can stay`.
Then, paying him 2 million instead of 6.5 for the next few years doesn`t seem as bad.
As a professional, I would do anything to maintain employment at the highest level.
He already is a millionaire 10x over, why bother playing in the minors!!
TSN, I don’t think the union would allow that … and I doubt Redden would ever do it.
he cant renegotiate his contract tsn. its not allowed i really dont think anyway.
oops, forgot to refresh, thanks carp
Bah! But if its the players decision, I don`t think it sets any sort of a precident.
Yeah I don’t think players can restructure contracts like that and I don’t know if players ever ask for less money when they do. Pre-lockout i know they would sometimes work out deferred payments in special cases and I wouldn’t mind seeing them pay Redden his remaining deal over the next say 666 years.
Well, I thought Liverpool were going to be a push-over this season. However, it will be extremely difficult to beat both Liverpool and the referees at Liverpool later this season.
The audacity of a penalty kick, a free kick on the edge of the box, and the enormous audacity to appeal for a red card for last man back when Torres never had the ball to begin with and never would have gotten to the ball.
3 dirtpiles of the match: 3. Gerrard for his sick celebration, 2. Torres for not showing up for Spain or for Liverpool against any other team, and 1. the no-talent Agger acting like a classless punk getting in Nani’s face for diving/acting like every other footballer known to mankind.
And just missing out on a dirtpile of the match award goes to the commentator on Fox Soccer Plus for going against United all game and having the audacity to call Nani’s antics shameful and pathetic, when as already noted, his antics are the antics of every other footballer known to mankind.
CTB – Awesome list of jerseys! Since we won ‘94, Id love to get my hands on a Bure ‘94 jersey. I have enormous respect for the CCCPian Rocket – mainly because we beat him and then later he joined us.
21 – David Shaw
Yeah mid-90s authentics are really hard to find. The quality of the Rangers jerseys was always top notch with the extra heavy mesh (remember that the prices for jerseys varied on the complexity for each team, thus the Rangers with the heavy weight, drop shadow effect lettering was always the most expensive). The Edge jerseys are more akin to the replica weight jerseys of the 90s. Good for players I suppose that can go through an unlimited amount, bad for fans that pay upwards of $300 a pop.
The NHL store has replica throwbacks from the 80s and 90s but the jerseys are all replica weight.
Good morning, Carp!
thats sports cr9!! u gotta get used to it or you’ll drive yourself crazy. and we should be happy that at least hockey and football use replay, baseball doesnt, they couldve used it when jeter faked gettin hit and got on 1st cuz of it. he even said the ball never hit him in a press conference
Christ, CR. No point cluttering up this place with sahker talk again, so I’ll drop it, but your team was favourite to win, won, deserved to win and you still have this delusional paranoia? Lighten up.
LW – That was my only post on the topic, just to constructively get out my anger. However, you have every right to be screaming about the non-red card on O’Shea, and if I were you, I’d be screaming. And I disagree with the notion that we deserved to win. This team is sloppy at the back and is the only team in quite some time – albeit in the 2nd half only – to allow Torres to perform to his abilities. Good luck to Liverpool this season.
Grabs stepped in a cowpie this morning
carp,
random, i know, but are the practices at the training facility open to the public? I have been to the facility before and work rather close to it….can a fan just go by and watch them practice like i used to do when they practiced at rye playland?
speaking of redden, nhl network had on one of the late games from the 07 conference finals between buffalo and ottawa. redden looked great, he was taking the body, making nice plays, and didnt make any of his characteristic gaffes. i just dont get it. where did this man go and who is this zombie in his body. if he comes to camp and actually plays well, I’d still kick him to the curb, cause that means hes just been dogging it for 2 years.

Question re: Yankee jerseys with names on them…
Do you all feel the same way about the dark blue Yankee t-shirts with names on them? I grabbed a jeter t-shirt for about $9 because I needed some t’s for the wardrobe, but I agree about jerseys but think the t shirts are different.
Joke – I changed my stance on the Yanks jerseys w/ names on them – because of the money issue and the economy. To answer your question, t T-Shirts are not the same thing. I would have no problem with getting T-Shirts for a wardrobe with a name on the back. There is no official T-Shirt! :)
vibz, it’s tighter than Fort Knox. You can’t get near the rink. Too bad. It used to be nice at Playland, especially when they had the advertised open practices during the season.
Joke, IMO, T-shirts are completely different.
Good afternoon, Sally!
Apparetntly the Stepan, Frolov, Gaborik line looked good in scrimmage. I’m hoping that’s the opening game #1 line.
Our friend Andrew Gross has updates on the morning scrimmage today:
http://blogs.northjersey.com/blogs/rangerrants/
I really put almost zero importance on scrimmages … remembering standout performances by Christian Dube and Soren True and the like, in years past.
All sources reporting that Wade Redden openly wept during scrimmage after repeatedly being hit against the boards by Zuccarello
Dredden doesn’t like it when his snort straw fights back. Zing!
easy there Orr.
Redden: “The ice so so pretty … so white … yummm”
Haha, sorry.
I don’t want to cause any waves here but can we keep the redden criticism to his horrible on ice play and not the other stuff? I’m guessing if there was any truth to those rumors then the rangers would being using it to void that terribly terrible contract.

23 – NHL teams that finished “over .500” last season
22 – my age
21 – Tiki Barber
Thanks Blaze! Spiderpig, you’re not 22. You’re 26, like the rest of us!
Hahaha, this has nothing to do with Dredden. I’m watching the Cowboy vs Bears game online, and they had the mics turned on before the game started like MSG accidentally does to Sam and Joe, and it sounded like that Aikman guy was snorting cocaine.
No joke, you could hear sniffing going on for like 30 seconds, and then he says “can I get a tissue”
Glad to see Slats went against dumping picks or prospects in order to get rid of some of these contracts.
I really don’t understand something…everyone gives redden soooooo much crap, but he is 100 times more physical than rozy (not saying much). I don’t want either one of them on our roster at all, but let’s give crappy credit where crappy credit is due and if you are going gripe about one, please include the other!!
Thanks!

sounds like a couple of guys want roster spots
I wonder if they didn’t get the memo about the players this team has are only supposed to play “positionally sound”??
Blowzy can actually play semi decent defense every now and then. Dredden seems like he’s in pee wee hockey mode all season long.
But, Blowzy will be gone before Dredden if their contracts play out. Hopefully they’re both gone in the coming weeks.
So Sather said he will work “until somebody doesn’t want me to work…”?
I’m “somebody”. Does that count?
both gone indeed!!!!
21: Cheatin’ Sammy Sosa.
You know two things that Sammy Sosa and Michael Jackson have in common?
LW – You’re somebody to me! //// I kinda like Slammin’ Sammy! Has anyone seen his face, how white it is now?! LOL!
thanks carp…much appreciated…ur right, it is too bad….it would be great to be able to bring my son to their practices like my dad brought me to playland…only 3 already screams yeahhh baby every time we score and has numerous shirts and merchandise lol….takin him to his first game this year cant wait!!! practice would be more fun because wed b closer…any idea why they strayed from having open to the public practices (or advertised like u stated)?.....i used to love watchin them at playland man….i got alotttt of autographs back then lol…leetch kovalev graves…caught a tikkanen puck etc….good times
good job, blaze!
I hope white sticks just so it forces sather to get rid of both redden and rozy!!!!
Of course, I’m not “somebody” in the Rod Gilbert sense…
But honestly, would any other GM in the league be able to come out and freely state that his job is there as long as he wants it? Even if it’s true (which sadly, it seems to be), couldn’t he at least pretend to make himself accountable. In the same way he pretends to make his players accountable.
I was reading on spectors that souray could go on re entry waivers…..show of hands if you think slats is all over that claim (mine raised).
>>I really don’t understand something…everyone gives redden soooooo much crap, but he
>>is 100 times more physical than rozy…
We give Rade Wedden much more flack because he makes much more money. Next question!
J
redden at 6.5 and rozy at 5 are both a huge waste!! PERIOD!!!!
Can’t argue that. But, like I said, at least Blowzy will be gone before him. Dredden has another three years left.
Slats was interested in Souray at the deadline. He’d probably burst into orgasmic rage if he were able to get him at half price without giving up anything.
I am hoping for some lackluster play from rosy and redden. Those 2 contracts would free up some much neede room (rosy via trade of course).
Hahahaha, some football player tackled some guy, and then injured himself while celebrating! Hahahaha!
I picked a good day to watch football!
They really should televise the training camp. They would be suprised at how many of us would be watching msg right now.
BLACKJACK!
C’mon this is a hockey blog south of both Lake Superior and the St Lawrence – #21 is Mike Eruzione (Gold Medalist)
Who cares if he is a masshole…
apparently both Frolov and Stepan were very impressive in the first intrasquad game. 3 goals for Frolov, and one for Stepan. I hope Stepan gets the #1 center spot between Frolov and gaborik

N.CountryNYRFan- are you from around Plattsburg by any chance? That’s what they used to call it up there…
—Yukon, I grew up on Long Island, but currently live in the Plattsburgh, NY area. Yeah they still call it the North Country up here. And there are a lot of Montreal Canadian fans up here, being that Montreal is only about 45 minutes from here.
N.CountryNYRFan- I lived in Rouses Point and Mooers for a few years in the 70’s. That’s where I learned to like Hockey. Saw the Canadiens occasionally back then but moved to near Ithaca before I could form any attachment to them. Rangers were the only logical alternative.
It was nice up there on Lake Champlain. There were only two seasons though, Winter and Fourth of July…
TooBoo, great call. Eruzione!
Hahaha…yeah the winter up here can be long and brutal. Lake Champlain is beautiful in the summer. I’ve been living up here for 13 years now, but still have some family on LI.
Miami has the Dolphins
The Greatest Football Team …
We take the ball from goal to goal
Like no one`s ever seen!
We`re in the air, we`re on the ground
We`re always in control …
And when you say “Miami”
You`re talking Super Bowl!
Need-a-six-pack-before-every-game Favre sent packing again …
N.Country- Watch any college hockey up there? There used to be quite a Div III Hockey rivalry between Elmira College and Plattsburgh. I graduated from Elmira in ‘85. The games were really intense for Div III. The Championship was usually on the line with that home and home series.
Sather says he feels the same as 10 years ago, will work “until somebody doesn’t want me to work or I don’t feel like working.”
——
i guess Fire Sather Rally wasn’t obvious enough sign for uncle “i got Dolan’s checkbook” Sather!
what a prick!
There are plenty of people that don’t want him to work, FIRE SATHER!
Pssssst hear that..?
The Rangers are comming!!!!
Greatest team in the world .
lake champlain! my moms side of the family all own houses on the vermont side. we ended up selling our land after a falling out with the rest of the family, but i have some fond memories of the lake.
Sather smather , bla bla bla bla . Olga , GO AWAY!!
Your talk of Chicago makes me wanna puke. You always end the night by ruining it with some Chicago Garbage. Come on , act the fool right now and start your “Chicago lovefest” That team is idiotic and a sham. Blackhawks suck and everyone wanted them to win cuz we all felt sorry for them . The scum driven Flyers almost beat them!!!
Greg, all I heard from you was blah blah blah (unintelligible)...
When your team is Stanley Cup Champion, then talk some smack. By your own “logic” the Rangers are worse than the “scum driven Flyers” because they lost a playoff berth to them in a shootout in the last game of the season. Game 82 wasn’t it?
Olga! Are you poking that caged badger with a stick again?
I go to see some Plattsburgh State hockey games from time to time. I used to love when they played Oswego, after every goal we would pelt their team with tennis balls. That was and still is a great rivalry except now if anybody throws anything Plattsburgh gets a delay of game penalty which kinda takes the fun out of it. I remember one game when there were literally hundreds of tennis balls on the ice after the first goal PSU scored, worth the penalty..haha.
Yes, I am. :)
Yeah, Oswego had some good teams back then, too. Its entertaining hockey.
Yeah it is.
Olga , Game eighty fricking two !! Yes a shoot out . That’s over now baby. Water under the bridge, over ,done ,kaputt .
All we have left is revenge. You may think im stuiped and can’t type worth a carp , big deal . Your cheering of chicago makes you look like a punk. Your a band wagon jumper and the only reason you come here is the fans of NY are cooler then those idiots who cheer on the BlackchUmPs.
Greg – no goals for Big Bad Boogy in the scrimmage today. Worried?
Actually greg, I come here IN SPITE of cretins like you. I don’t have to make fun of your “stuipedity”. You’re doing fine on your own.
Well LW3H , Im feeling perty safe . Boogaard is a player who plays on emotion. He will fight and score when the season starts. He has his contract (long one)and he knows he will be a focal point in a few medley’s that come about at MSG. He will be a fan favorite . He will be a beast. he is NO Brashear. He is driven by the love of the game ( the contract just happens). Derek Boogaard will become one of the most feared enforcers the New York Rangers ever had. Nick futio ,Tie Dummy and Kocur could not tame this beast.
Boogaard is huge . His frame is wide. He has a mean streak in him. The Rangers have instant respect . Boy I feel goood!!!
Olga , If wanted to impress you ..I’d “google” every word I spell out and use spell check and grammar guide just to correct any typos I do.
I would also send you a picture of me in my “sexy-tight-mike teh man-bonehead tee shirt” just to impress you.
Infact if I wanted to impress you , Id say “fire sather” like you a hundred times just to get you excited.
In fact I bet when you are in bed , your signifagnt other says ” FIRE SATHER” all sexy like just to get you aroused.
If I wanted to impress you I’d talk to one of your other “different personalitys” your skitzo personality is the only friend you have besides Linda. You start calling me stuiped !? Atleast I dont come on here with 10 different personalitys that call themselves the “hugo familly” and cheer on the BlackShmucks . If you left the Blackhawk stuff outta here , I’d live with your Sather thingy.
greg- Hit your head very hard, with a large hammer. That will leave the impression I’m looking for from you…
It’s nice of Slats to give us 15 minutes of his time in the pre-season, when people are still hopeful. Don’t worry, we know we won’t hear from you during the season. Slats only talks when there are no problems, and even then, he repeats the same blah blah blah as the past 10 years, just changes the names.
Some things never change….Olga vs Greg…Life is good.
Olga, thanks for suggesting to look into Magellanic Clouds. We have something set up in Wellington , weather permitting, to watch them. Along with some other Astronomic phenomena unique to this hemisphere. I’ll let you know what it is like. As soon as you stop bothering Greg.
ilb I know you will enjoy the views. Keep you fingers crossed for clear skies.
As for greg, poking the little badger with my Chicago stick is getting too easy. Mother would be mad at me for torturing dumb animals…
21…...George McFly
and 21 … Dave Brown.
I knew about #21 Dave Brown, but I wasn’t going to mention it on this blog. He’s just a thug with skates.
wasnt Dave Brown a Giants qb? ;-)
FIRE SATHER! linda…
and a hearty FIRE SATHER to you Olga, and the entire family!!
Dave Brown? Here you go:
http://www.nocowboys.co.nz/businesses/dave-brown-electrical-services/
Linda, there isn’t enough Sathers to feed the whole Folkyerself family. I gather they would like to eat him alive.
I don’t know how many Sathers there are, but there’s ONE too many…
To Mrs.ilb,
¿Qué tal va todo y el humor es tan lejano de la casa?
Do they play any ice hockey in NZ? (I know they play field
grass hockey)I think it’s hardpuck will fall down the ceiling, hah?Todo por aca esta bellisimo. Le gente muy gentil y la comida deliciosa.
That was from mrs to 4ever.
I don’t think they play hockey here at all. It’s a great country. And funny. We are sitting on a ferry from the South to North Island and they have wifi here with great connection, yet some big hotels in large cities don’t have it.
Good night, kids.
Good night, Sally!
Mrs.ILB
Amo a la gente que es capaz de disfrutar, ser divertida y appriciate todo esto pequeñas cosas en nuestra vida. Bueno para usted. Not sure about grammar…Perdóneme
Good night everyone and good afternoon for ilb. family.
Kovalsuck is such a clown – in one of his interview to ESPN, he was saying that he feel kind of strange to play right wing position, but with the such good players, like Parise and Wild Rabbit(that what Zajac means in russian)he is ready even to be a goalie. I really despise this guy.
Good night, heads!
4ever- she said thank you and not to worry about the grammar. Pretty impressive.
Hey fantasy league owners… i posted some rules/explanations on how to play. Check the main screen of the league. If you will have other question don’t hesitate to ask.
ilb2001
Guess this is your bed time, I’m up at my predawn position ..
Seems like you’re having a fantastic vacation. Good luck to you and the family. They’ll never forget it.
I,ve often wondered if the NZ,ers have ever heard the
” Maori love song”. Beautiful melody.
do they have any crocs there? Australia is filthy with them, ... and gigantic specimens.
Saw a TV program once that was taken from a tourist boat where the viewing deck was high off of the water level
( if you can call a muddy river looking like chocolate
water), and they,d hold a chicken out over the side on a long fish pole and crocs the size of rowing shells, come leaping totally out of the water ( if you can call brown mud ..water), and grab the bird – to the delight of the viewers. ( Great sport…so entertaining.) Yech.
Poor Aussies…they have the worlds largest sea predator fish just off the Barrier Reef and the biggest crocs in the world, and that passes for “environment”. Never been that part of the world, and from what I’ve seen of the environs, no desire to go there. Australia that is.
Glad to see that you’re having a great vacation with family…they;ll never forget it. It will remain the high point of their life memories, especially the kids. This has held true for us I know, from our sojourns to Nantucket with ours in the 70,s and 80,s. Our grown up kids still recall it lovingly and now take their offspring there once a summer ( being the only ones who can afford the Isle of the Whaling days.) Let me suggest that if you want to take a moment in time to place yourselves in the 1840;s for a
gentle holiday week ( and can afford it) try the little grey lady of the sea. A historical pork chop isle in the Atlantic, that time has forgotten ( to a degree). Not the tony Martha’s Vineyard. Alas, the idle rich have taken over and prices are now very high.
