2010 Traverse City Prospects Tournament
New York Rangers def Columbus Blue Jackets, 5-4

September 11, 2010 – The New York Rangers prospects defeated the Columbus Blue Jackets prospects by a score of 5-4 in the opening game of the 2010 Traverse City Prospects Tournament today in Traverse City, Michigan.

Alternate Captain Derek Stepan led the Rangers scoring, finishing the game with a goal and three assists.  Alternate Captain Evgeny Grachev notched two goals, including the game winner at 19:54 of the third period.  Ryan Bourque and Christian Thomas also each tallied a goal, with Bourque adding an assist.  Captain Ryan McDonagh finished the game with one assist.  Scott Stajcer earned the victory for the Rangers, making 20 saves on 24 shots faced.

“It was a typical first game of the tournament, with a lot of back-and-forth action in the beginning, but we settled down as the game went on,” said Gordie Clark, Director, Player Personnel, New York Rangers.  “The top line of of Stepan, Grachev and Bourque played well together in the Development Camp and that chemistry continued here.  Stepan saw the ice incredibly well, Grachev pulled the trigger on two shots and Bourque was a tremendous energy guy chipping in with a goal.  On the back end, McDonagh was as steady as we thought he would be and played a great game.  Thomas also contributed a true goal-scorers goal.”

The New York Rangers prospects next take the ice tomorrow, Sunday, September 12 against the Carolina Hurricanes prospects at 5:30pm ET.

  1. That is some good news right there.

Most excellent posts by all earlier regarding today’s date and what it means. I whole heartedly agree with whoever said ‘God Bless the World’

  2. Hi, everyone! Greetings from New Zealand!

Never forget this day. Everyone lost somebody. Even if you never knew them. One of the boneheads said it well before- it’s highly doubtful that we may be able to survive too many of those…

That Rangers special put me a more foul mood than I was before. Just listening to those turds talk about “this year everybody will be considered on merit, not contract”. Sather and Tortorella lie with a straight face, right into the camera. We’ll see one, maybe two new kids on the roster on opening night. Probably sitting on the bench waiting for the 5 minutes average ice time every other game until they are sent down for “conditioning”.

And Drury! Just the sound of him talking drives me up a wall. I’d rather have a Proctology exam from Captain Hook than watch him.

I’ve got a baaaaaaad feeling about this season. FIRE SATHER! It’s gotta help…

ilb- How are the stars in the southern hemisphere? Supposed to be really spectacular on a clear night…

  5. By the way, it’s almost 3 pm on Sunday the 12th here. We were on the plane all day 9/11, essentially. That’s how mrs. lib planed it. The hotel has wi-fi, so I think I’ll be talking with some of you late night posters. If I can stay up long enough, that is.

  6. Just wondering if Capt. Clutch might have time between twirling pizzas and driving the Clutchmobile (new clutch, of course) to guest post before or during camp?

    Hey carp
what’s your take on exelby at the rangers camp??? Think he has a roster shot?

  9. Nite, wicksters!

XLB? Like the name, big hitter, but I think he is many years after his “prime”….

Sounds like Stepan may be close, eh?

  10. no harm in creating some competition at camp and adding a missing dimension to the group, right?

If they are going to dump Redden to Hartford, they might even have cap room to carry an extra defenseman this year. Might be good to have seven, and one of them a rugged guy who can step in for rugged games.

But, honestly, I can’t say I remember seeing Exelby play at all last year. Don’t have any idea what he has left … and he wasn’t exactly Norris Trophy timber at his best.

thanks for the input. I still think slats is up to something on the trade front. Just a couple too many invites and players that can play multiple forward positions. You also have to figure mcdonut and maybe stepan and/or grachev are going to make it. maybe dealing some forward depth and gilroy for someone.

    Spring there right??

  12. Yes, wicky, early spring here. Still skiing at some places. Beautiful mountains surrounding a huge lake. Stunning.

Did someone mention Semenov as an invitee? Is it a joke? Or it took him a year to talk his wife into it :-)

Day instead of night, spring instead of fall, upside-down, toilets flush the wrong way…

    Bizarro ilb?
