Happy Labor Day!

Posted by: Carp - Posted in Uncategorized on Sep 06, 2010

Anybody else working today?

Did you know that Labor Day has been celebrated since 1882, which was Chris Chelios’ rookie year?
————————————————-

Thirty-four days until Opening Night.

You guys (Linda) already beat me to 34s Nolan Ryan, Walter Payton and John Vanbiesbrouck.

34: Peter Popovic (we called him “the Oarsman”).

34: Herschell Walker, Bo Jackson.

I don’t know how many of you remember the “Bo Knows” commercials. Those ruled! Also, he was scary good as a baseball player. Wish he’d lasted a while.

    11 Days Until Camp Opens!!!!

those Bo Knows commercials were great. I worked with a girl who’s brother played college football with Bo.

LMFAO @ Chelios’ rookie year! Bravo Carpy!!! Nicely played!

  5. Tank The Season

Who remembers the ProStars cartoon that featured Wayne Gretzky, Bo Jackson, and Michael Jordan (with other people doing their voices)?

  6. Linda

didnt Cleon Jones wear 34? LMAO Bob Apodaca!

Bo Jackson, by the way, was the greatest athlete I ever saw.

  9. Carp

bull dog, you’re right. he was. Remember the catch he made running up the wall? And the homer he hit off Nolan Ryan in the all-star game?

    Good morning, Sally!

Bo Jackson’s 1989 season was amazing.
he hit 32 home runs and drove in over 100, then went and rushed for 950 yards in 9 games in the NFL.

  13. Sally

    Good morning, Carp!

I’m surprised people not talking much about Kovalchuk finally signing the most annoying free agent deal of the century..i wonder who will the Devils be dropping now that Iliya is taking the biggest cap space for the rest of his life? Their cap space is -3.468mill with 2 players under the limit i believe. I like Ilya as a player…it’d be hard hating on him in the Devils uniform.

    @Linda

Thank you so much your last post was very very helpful. I did have one other question I was hoping you could help me with. You said you had nhl.com & the other one (name slips me) right now. But watch the versus games on versus, & Id assume MSG games on MSG. Are these games blacked out on nhl.com or the feeds one? Or you just prefer the other option.

    Thanks.

P.S. Sorry to be a pain being a newish wed (about 2 years) & a new home owner $$ is tight and my love of the rangers is getting the the point where 20 games & the rest via 10 second highlight on sportcenter is not enough.

  21. wicky (Our D is SOFT and give Prust an A!!!!)

    Morning ILB and all!!

  24. ilb2001

No, wicky, you work because you’re a workaholic. And because you don’t like changing diapers :-)

  25. The Mouth

Happy Labor day to all !

Vant wait till we get to the # 6. The number six jersey has housed some of the worst Rangers in history, I view it as a cursed jersey lol.

Did Brandon Dubinsky have a good last year? Video

  26. Tim G

Hey Carp speaking of Bo & tying him to hockey (al la six steps to kevin bacon) What an odd game that was. Anyone remember the short lived cartoon ProStars.

Not the greatest cartoon ever made but hey had some of the greatest athletes ever, odd to think they all were in their prime around the same time. What a time for sports.

  27. Tim G

    EDIT

  28. Tim G

LOL nm then that answered my own question. Even on a holiday Ive got the monday’s

  29. AFLY

Hey Guys – was away for the weekend and just wanted to thank you for the kind words on my post.
I can’t wait for the season to start and though I may not post, my favorite distraction is always your comments about the team.
Only a few more weeks…Let’s Go Rangers!

  30. Blogmama

Now this is the kind of “labor” day I get can behind permanently….Good afternoon all!

  31. GerryD

Of course it means absolutely nothing. But, this is from Eklund.

The Sharks, who improved greatly by acquiring Niemi last week aren’t done yet. Sources have told me the possibility exist the Sharks make another move for a D-man and have had talks with the NY Rangers about Mark Staal, The Canucks about Kevin Bieksa, and Paul Mara, and even MA Bergeron.

    • The Rangers would like Setoguchi in return for Staal..The Rangers are playing some extreme hardball with Marc, Torterelli has flat out said he should not come to camp if he isn’t signed.
  32. ORR!! Drugs Are Buh-ad, Mmkay?

Hacklund quoting Torts even though they probably have never met.

  33. Chris from Albany

    #34-Thurman Thomas RB Buffalo Bills

  34. ilb2001

Oh, I’d love to listen to that conversation- Torts with Eklund. I can only imagine…

  35. ZzZz NYR ZzZz " Doing the Boogy!!! " ..says Greg L.

Eklund , ” So your trading Staal?”

    Torts , ” No!!”

    Eklund , ” So there is a chance …”

    Torts, ” NO way , I said .”

Eklund ” I can see the headline now ..Torts wants to trade Staal.”

  36. ZzZz NYR ZzZz " Doing the Boogy!!! " ..says Greg L.

Me upset with Mikey!!??? I can’t see it . Mike teh man should post more often. He is the one blogger who lays it all on the table and tells it how it is. Hes honest and usually non bias. Bring on the season just made a few mistakes in his “take on me” , I just had to set things straight.

  37. ZzZz NYR ZzZz " Doing the Boogy!!! " ..says Greg L.

    Brandon Dubinsky

Lead the team in Short handed goals ( 2 )

Lead the team in Game winning goals ( 5 )

This guy is our best all-around player .

    He has the “full package”

    He should be Captain.

  38. cwgatti

There was a book called’”It’s Only a Bruise” it was written by the former team doctor of the Oakland/LA Raiders. It tells the story of Bo Jackson’s injury, and Lyle Alzado’s insanity. Great read.

I saw Bo Jackson at spring training in Florida years ago. He was a man amongst boys. A beast.

  39. Seth

good evening all…hope everyone had a great summer! 3-4 days to go to the opener, camp is around the corner! i am pumped up!

  40. Blogmama

I used to go to the same dentist the Rangers use.

was it you C3P, or someone else…I think the ultimate Kovy contract decision is a joke. Hate the team, but do feel bad for who doesn’t know they’re getting cut yet. The whole CBA needs to be looked at again.

cw, probably won’t read that, (Alzado, olden days!) but love the title!

  41. fran

There you go again. Bringing up people that ring my memory bell, and forcing me, actually forcing me to insert a few anecdotes…......How many of you recall “Neon Deon” who played for one of the teams ( was it Cincinatti in the NL?)
and that unforgettable view of him standing there in left field waiting for a fly ball to arrive that he had lost in the lights, and had the thing bounce off the top of his head? He was another two major league sport guys. Great athlete. I never forgot that moment and the way he just stood there afterward with a big grin on his face, and his arms out stretched. :Priceless.

There was another two sport guy many years ago from Conn. named Gene Conley..he played I believe with the Celtics, but also was a pretty good pitcher for the old Milwaukee Braves. Really tall kid.

Incidentally there is another baseball guy now in broadcasting the last time I looked, named Rob Dibble.
I really don’t think there has been anyone who could throw harder than him.But he also had an abrasive personality that turned a lot of people off. His dad was a long time and highly respected news broadcaster for many years with the Hartford radio system.

Any old Adirondack Red Wing fans around? #34 Norm Maracle

  43. Blogmama

fran, xxoxoxo! I don’t remember what I wore this morning!

  44. CR9

    Mama

You looked sparkling this morning! Your dress was FABU! And you looked so young, 26 to be exact :)

  45. Blogmama

CR, um, OK, thanks, but wha!
    I”m signing off all…..TA!

  46. CR9

    Mama

Ive been in contact with Aves, and he said he’s got his eye on you; he also said he’s too intimidated to talk to you, that you’re stunningly beautiful! :)

  47. CR9

Aves is the one who told me what you were wearing today; he was at the Journal News!

  48. CR9

Speaking of Avery, I heard from a friend that there was a rumor a week ago that Avery could be headed to Boston for Marc Savard. I pray with everything that I have that we don’t do that deal. Savard deal is terrible, and I REALLY DONT want to have to hate Avery. Because I know if Avery went to Boston, he would go from the most hated player in the league to the most beloved, instantaneously.

  49. wicky (Our D is SOFT and give Prust an A!!!!)

    no ink for cally?

Is the traverse city tourney on any where??

  50. blaze

Tune into Dr. Oz tomorrow. my sister n law is on it.

here’s a clip of the coming attractions. she’s the doctor on the phone.

  51. Linda

    TIM G

sorry for the late response, I was invited to the house of the doctor whose team I work on, was at the lake house all day, on the water, it was crazy fun!!

Anyway, being the hockeystreams is out of Canada, i do NOT remember any Rangers games being blacked out when they were on national tv. On NHL’s game center live, the year i had it, they did NOT stream the nationally broadcasted games.

    Hope that helps!

  52. CCCP

    are we there yet?

  53. wicky (Our D is SOFT and give Prust an A!!!!)

    Boise state!!!!!

  54. CR9

please dont allow sean avery to go to boston. i dont ask for much, God – :crosses fingers: – but please dont allow my beloved agitator to go to a team where he’ll be liked. sean avery is in a class by himself and deserves to be with a classy franchise such as the Rangers.

  55. Tim G

    @Linda

    1) Lucky :P. Nough said lol.

    2) That helps extremely well & frankly is exactly the complete answers I have been looking for. Hockeystreams here I come. Hopefully this proves to be the push I need to cut the cable for good

  56. Tim G

    @wicky

Im with ya Ive loved these guys for a few years now. Anyone crazy, dumb, brave, whatever enough to run the statue of liberty in a bowl game gets my vote. Been a fan ever since. You think they have any chance at all though honestly or you think the BCS will screw them worse than the shootout screwed us last year?

  57. Olga Folkyerself

    12:30
MSG+ is re-broadcasting Game 81 against the flyers from last season.

Hey greg- there’s still hope! Just don’t watch the next one…

  58. Olga Folkyerself

Captain Clutch scores on the Power Play. Tied at 1

  59. CCCP

It’s a power play goal! Drury with his unbelievable second PPG of the season! It only took him 81 games!

can anyone remind me how many PPM did Drury get last season?

  60. Hugo Folkyerself

    That’s goal #14 for Drury.

At only $575,000 per goal, too.

  61. Hugo Folkyerself

Jody Shelley gets his first goal as a Ranger!!!!

At the bargain price of #362,599 per goal. Why did we not re-sign him again?

  62. CCCP

because we now have Gregoord…i meant, Boogaard!

  63. Mida Will Folkyerself

Hugo- Shelley only played 21 games as a Ranger so each goal only cost NY $92,875.

    Cheap!

  64. Yukon Al Folkyerself

Don’t forget- Drury’s ATOI was 17:47, Shelley’s ATOI was 7:07, so compared to Drury’s ice time Shelley’s goals were only about $37,000 each.

  65. CCCP

    Olga

your family is pretty good at math!

  66. Hugh Jess Folkyerself

Boogaard has played for 5 seasons and he’s only two NHL goals ahead of Jessiman.

  67. Olga Folkyerself

    3CP- I gotta fess up! We used a calculator…

  68. CCCP

    Olga

you family is pretty good at using calculator!

  69. Hugo Folkyerself

Did you know that 47% of all statistics are made up on the spot?

  70. Midas Will Folkyerself

And you can trust Hugo. He’s as honest as the day is long!

  71. Yukon Al Folkyerself

Did you notice the days are a lot shorter lately?

  72. Olga Folkyerself

Dubinsky scores to make it 3-1. Why isn’t he traded yet?

  73. Hugo Folkyerself

Dubinsky’s 20 goals last year were $85,000 apiece.

His goals aren’t worth anywhere near as much as Drury’s!

    Trade him!!!!

  74. CCCP

hockey season cannot start soon enough! i’m outta here…

    peace out Folkyerselfs!

  75. Hugo Folkyerself

No Yukon Al, days are still 24 hours last I looked. Which day of the year is only 23 hours?

  76. Olga Folkyerself

    Pronger ties it up….

  77. Olga Folkyerself

Sorry Pronger has the assist, Richards has the goal.

  78. Olga Folkyerself

    Gaborik scores! 4-3!

  79. Hugo Folkyerself

Gabby’s goals cost $178,571 each last year.

Dubi is looking more and more like a bargain…

  80. wicky (Our D is SOFT and give Prust an A!!!!)

    wow, good night elizabeth!!

  81. Olga Folkyerself

Rangers win game 81 again… Tie the flyers with 86 points.

Last happy moment of 2010 season.

  82. wwwc9

Would’ve loved to see the game.

Drury, for 7 million bucks, they’re not paying you to just win face offs or block shots (and why can’t he block shots and not make it look like he’s beeing shot?). You could’ve gotten that with Betts. And never mind the leadership. Too many uninspired games last year to justify his salary and cap hit.

Any word on how Dylan played? Goon or maybe we have something here?

+1 on seeing Stephan make the team. Hope Artie bulked up this summer and make a run for the number one or two spot.
