Mornin’ Heads (updated)

You’re on your own today …

Forty-one days until Opening Night.

I see a lot of you jumped the gun with Tom Seaver, the obvious one, plus the Jed Ortmeyers and Eddie Mios.

41: Jake Gibbs.

41: Steve “The General” Richmond … one of my favorite Rangers from the bad old days.

MORNING UPDATE, 10:40 A.M.: Hank on the bus.

Just got this from the NYR:

On Tuesday August 31st, Rangers goaltender Henrik Lundqvist will join the ranks of Whoopi Goldberg, Donald Trump and Rachael Ray as the latest celebrity inducted into Gray Line New York’s “Ride of Fame” campaign which honors exemplary New Yorkers by bestowing a bus in their fleet. A ribbon-cutting ceremony to unveil Lundqvist’s personalized Gray Line New York bus will take place on 7th Avenue in front of Madison Square Garden at 12:00 p.m. Immediately following the ceremony, Henrik will board his very own bus to take the inaugural ride with 50 lucky fans.

“I’d like to thank Gray Line New York for their support of the Rangers and particularly their continued support of the Garden of Dreams Foundation,” says Lundqvist. “The kids always look forward to the tours of the city, sitting on the upper deck.  Being able to now do them on a bus featuring myself and the Rangers is a great honor.”

After the event, the official Henrik Lundqvist bus will enter into Gray Line New York’s regular rotation, becoming a mobile monument, granting millions of sightseers the opportunity to “ride” along with him each day.

Forty-one is the 13th smallest prime number. The next is forty-three, with which it comprises a twin prime. It is also the sum of the first six prime numbers (2 + 3 + 5 + 7 + 11 + 13), and the sum of three primes (11 + 13 + 17).

Forty-one is also the 12th supersingular prime, a Sophie Germain prime and a Newman-Shanks-Williams prime. 41 is the smallest Sophie Germain prime to start a Cunningham chain of the first kind of three terms, {41, 83, 167}. It is an Eisenstein prime, with no imaginary part and real part of the form 3n ? 1. 41 is a Proth prime as it is 5 × 23 + 1.

    The number figures in the polynomial f(n) = n2 + n + 41, which yields primes for -40 ? n < 40.

Forty-one is the sum of two squares, 42 + 52. Adding up the sums of divisors for 1 through 7 yields 41.

It is a centered square number.

    tweet from zipay this morning:

11 Rangers on ice at pretraining camp workouts: Lundqvist, Drury, Grachev, Dubi, Redden, White, Prospal, Aasen, AA, Valentenko, Eminger

    it is getting closer!

prospal apparently celebrated a goal he scored this morning in mid season form and everyone cracked up!

After a mini-vacation of 5 days back to work…..bleh! I feel more tired than before I went on vacation.

  7. Joekuh - still playing NHL '94... on

Peter, why in Byflugien’s name would the Devs trade in division to us? And who would we trade back for him? Callahan? Dubinsky? Anisimov and a pick?

  8. There are three more Rangers 41s – Peter Fiorrentino, Mike Siltala and the immortal Simon Wheeldon (who sounds even more impressive if you use a French-Canadian pronunciation).

  9. Lundqvist gets his own bus? cool! a bit of a late announcement…otherwise i would’ve gone to the city!

    Jocelyn Thibault – # 41

  10. just read the Rangers are about to sign Tim Kennedy. Don’t see how this fits in the scheme of things, hoping he’s just hartford depth???

  11. Gives new meaning to the phrase, ‘riding Lundqvist’.

Practice! Not organized, but still. Getting closer!

  12. Was I the only one thinking of CR9 with a huge grin while reading a post about riding the lundqvist bus?

  13. wicky (Our D is SOFT and give Prust an A!!!!) on

well, according to gross via twitter

Tim Kennedy to #NYRangers rumors are legit

  14. wicky (Our D is SOFT and give Prust an A!!!!) on

    and now…

#NYRangers deal with LW Tim Kennedy could be announced later today. Depth move.

  15. wicky (Our D is SOFT and give Prust an A!!!!) on

I think kennedy played LW, but I could be wrong. He is pretty small and last I checked wasn’t a physical hard hitting crease clearing d man, so if he earns a spot on the roster fine, and if not that is fine as well.

  16. Ok, so only because it was an earlier topic here…

I taped this weeks hard knocks and finally got time to watch it last night and guess what? It was bleeping edited!! Every single cuss was bleeped out…so I ask you, are they editing it all the time or just replaying an edited version after the original airs? Did the league step in? What’s going on? I’m a grown man who wants to hear another grown man curse at a bunch of other grown men!!!!

  17. Another center? It truly IS an open tryout for the #1 center spot.

of course…especially when your potential #1 center is EC!

  18. Kennedy is a left winger. Wicky, the article suggests that we are a “little light on the left wing”. Is he delirious?

  19. Ok, I take that back. I thought Kennedy was a center. My bad. But left wing.. hrmm.. there’s already Prospal (who may play center), Avery, Dubinsky… and there are more, but I am drawing a total blank here.

Maybe they are going with the theory of bring in as many players and possible and hope to hell that someone sticks.

  20. wicky (Our D is SOFT and give Prust an A!!!!) on

this is for all you fankist fans….

Yes he is! RT @snowkitten35: Is he in mid-season tan too? RT @JimCerny Vinny Prospal is in mid-season form passionately celebrating his goal

Prospal clearly has best tan, Lundqvist running distant second…

  21. I would think they would ALL be pretty tan after not making the playoffs.

Thanks, ilb. I knew I was forgetting new guys.

  22. Kennedy is listed as C/W on tsn..undersized forward who didn’t put up big #’s and was bought out by sabres?? I’m guessing EC ain’t losing any sleep over this signing.

  23. Am I the only one who thinks Hank’s deification has come a bit early in his career? Give us a Cup or, at least, some playoff success (or maybe a season with no huge performance holes) and then you can be a NY hero.

  24. I was thinking the same, ChrisF…a bit too early to be “riding the bus”..

If Kennedy is signed, we will have enough forwards to put 2 expansion teams on the ice….

  25. wicky (Our D is SOFT and give Prust an A!!!!) on

professionally speaking, yes I think it has. He needs to take us to the conf. finals at least IMHO.

On the human being level, I say it is well deserved!

  26. The Sabres walked away from a $1 million salary. That ought to tell you something. They must not have been impressed with his rookie year.

Don Maynard wore #13 if I remember correctly.

  27. On the human being level, I say it is well deserved!

hey! i’m a good, hard working, law abiding (AHEM!) human being! can i have a bus named after me too? i mean… i know he is the…uuumm…King (right?) i mean…if we’re not talking about his professional life, how often do you hear about Lundqvist doing any charities or whatever? Rachel ray can cook…can Lundqvist cook?! :)

  28. Orr,

I watched all three on hbo. First two normal, this week censored. I just thought maybe theyair two versions now or if I missed some news were league demanded it get bleeped? Just a pain to download something that I already pay to get on tv. Not that I really need to hear the cursing, but come on…it’s hbo, not Disney or Nick jr

  29. Joke, there’s no way they’re being forced to bleep it. The Sopranos had every curse word in the book, and had rape scenes, chicks being beaten to death, or abused. It’s HBO, you can pretty much get away with everything.

What time did you watch it? Maybe since there are a lot of NFL fans that are kids, they have an edited version they play during the day.

  30. 18 and a half days until CAMP TORTSULLY v 2.0!!! Hope the boys are conditioned and ready to go!!!!

  31. wicky (Our D is SOFT and give Prust an A!!!!) on

we named a porta potty after you up here, the 3CP hole.

  32. uuummm….ahem….eehhhhh….what? i’m not sure how to take that comment, wicky is this supposed to be a complement on a deeper level?

  33. wicky (Our D is SOFT and give Prust an A!!!!) on

    here you go

Buffalo News reports Kennedy’s deal is one-way for $550,000. I’m guessing he had a few interested teams at that price.

  34. wicky (Our D is SOFT and give Prust an A!!!!) on

just didn’t want you to feel left out after hank’s bus and all

  35. Slats must have zero confidence in the kids, since he brings in White, Kennedy, and brings back EC.

Who cares, as long as he dumps Dredden.

Very off-topic but I have to mention it. Anybody hear that story aboot that four year old kid that contracted an STD after chewing on a used condom at a hotel? According to his parents, he thought it was a balloon.

It’s not funny at all, but I had to laugh after the balloon comment. This guy I used to know could make balloon animals out of condoms. Really funny.

  36. so wicky just called me a sh!t-hole and asked not to feel left out…nice! i will have to get back to you on that one, wicky :)

Thank you! You understand me better than anyone!

  37. That guy Jim Cerny interviewing Zuccarello Aasen on NYR website today looks like Paul Giamatti with a Scott Hamliton haircut.

  38. Orr

not sure which hour I taped which is why I thought maybe I just happened to catch a censored airing. I’ll try and get the original episodethis week and see

I actuall saw that news about the condom kid the day after and they were going to test for stds. I guess he had his tongue all up in there with goo left in it…that’s bad news. So he dies have a disease now? That’s a shame.

  39. Does, not dies

and this reminds me of that balloon boy from months ago with the UFO his dad made. Wow, whole different meaning to balloon boy

  40. ilb

Saw your note on P&C. Im interested in cute puppy pics. If you’re interested, Ive got some as well!

  41. Jlone2Bubblehead on

Im not sure how i feel about the kennedy signing.

How many times can you go to the well with other teams throw aways…? Fankist,EC,huggybear.. yeah there is a percentage that will work out, but at what cost. How long does it take to figure out if its working. How long of a look do they get?

I think its great that we get another teams sophmore with NHL playoff experience at a bargain price. I have a good feeling about him… Of course that could be the Indian food I ate for lunch. Building the youth core. At some point though you have to realize that you have far to many depth players, far to many project players, far to many underachievers, far to many lacking NHL caliber talent. I like the future of the franchise, but frankly, the present has me concerned. Is anyone in the front office sober enough to S.ave O.ur S.hip

  42. “Wow, whole different meaning to balloon boy”

Hahaha. I forgot where I read it, but they said he did. But, maybe he’s still getting tested.

Do you have HBO on Demand? If you do, then you can watch Hard Knocks on there. They usually add it the day after it airs, so they would definitely have it.

  43. This Kennedy thing is weird – we now have even more C/LW players (Prospal/Dubi/Avery/Kennedy/Drury/White) and with EC, AA & Boyle we have 3 Centers, Boogy & Frolov at LW. So thats 11 players for 8 spots all on 1-way contracts i think, are we looking at a trade coming up? Are Avery & Boyle in danger of a year in Hartford?

The Right side seems fairly predictable with Gabby, Cally, MZA, Prust – the only person we’re not sure about is MZA and the possibility of one Weise or Byers making the team.

More puzzling moves from Darth Sather – is he going to pull a rabbit from the hat and trade for what we really need (a nasty, crease-clearing, goalie protecting D-man)?

  44. we dont have Staal…not yet. Staal is pulling Dubinsky…last year Dubi got ripped a new one for not getting signed all summer…training camp is in 20 days and Staal isnt under a contract and nobody seem to care.

  45. I wouldn’t be totally shocked if Sather dumps Avery. I don’t like the idea of stockpiling other teams’ junk. Now, Kennedy could step up in his second year and be a decent player, but if the team needed anything it is a first line center, which Kennedy isn’t. Since he gets a one-way contract the signing doesn’t make any sense unless they are looking to dump somebody.

  46. Darth is trying something new- it’s called Frankenteam. A little bit of this type of player, a pinch of that type. Throw them together and hope he comes out with Voltron.

I mean, he’s tried everything else, why not this.

  47. Mickey

NOw you folks know why I just love this blog… I can find laughs here a dime a dozen and never grow tired of them.
    Frankensteam indeed.

It’s what I was to before about NY humor and humorists.

I just hope for the sake of the new players own sense of
aelf respect that they don’t find out about that term concerning them, during their tryouts.

  48. Kennedy rejected an 800k 2 way deal from Buffalo which could have end up much lower if he was sent down, and ends up with a guaranteed 883,333 between the Sabres buyout and the Rangers 1 way deal.

Plus, its kind of like giving the finger to his hometown team who cut him loose. I know the Leafs would have been even more so, but who wants to go there?

Its not a bad pick up except the Rangers already have a dozen left wingers who can score 10 goals.

  49. Fantasy Alert!

I will be inviting all of the active participants from last year’s Rangers Report fantasy hockey league. Not to be confused with the Boneheads league that was so frequently discussed here last season. I may be interested in joining that one, as well. :) I’ll get back to you with open spots.

  50. Blue, soon the countdown will be in HOURS!!

    3CP, thanks for the compliment!!

    LMAO @ ‘hobbit position’.

  51. I like that Kennedy had 3 pts (1G, 2A) and was a +3 in 6 games as a rookie in his first playoffs

  52. plus his 26 points in 78 games is pretty comparable to AA’s 28 points in 82 games – could be a nice addition to the young core management keeps talking about

  56. ZzZz NYR ZzZz "Go Rangers !!! ...says Greg L. on

Like a child I yelled louder over his voice saying ” GOOO RANGERSS!!” It was quite a moment. I am so ready for the NHL season.

  57. Its Deadline Day!!!

That is “Soccer” transfer deadline day for all of us Europhiles who are waiting to see what “soccer” players end up where.

Its just another way to distract me from lack of hockey and to see me through the week till DisneyWorld on Saturday!!!

  58. I thought I felt a moving of the Tectonic plates last night.

And it isn’t due to any part of the hurricane season..the native Ranger fans are growing restless. I sense a stirring and soon the drums will sound across the land. Could it be that the hockey advent is finally coming upon us? They are making their frustrations known to all who have a hand in what becomes their team in a few short weeks. Beware the wild eyed and bushy tailed Ranger fan…especially those who show little mercy to those who are in a position of authority.
They will be exposed to the wrath of these long time fans, with one more stupid player movement or foolish decision.

The carnage will be awful ( all those skattered dixie cups
and other flotsam. ( I know, know, it’s scattered, but I sometimes like to see if you’re paying attention.)

  59. Good morning, boneheads!
