Aw, I don’t know what to say anymore. This is about as slow a time as there is for hockey watchers.
Oooh, Oooh, did the Leafs trade Kaberle?
This is what passes for big news in the middle of August.
On the positive side, 55 days remain until the opener in Buffalo (Sally assures us she is ready!).
No. 55: Orel Hershiser.
Two other significant numbers: 22 and 12. That’s how SportsIllustrated.com ranks the Rangers overall and in the East.
See youse later.

First..thing in the am
22
now I,m really putting my fading memory to the test, but
I’m gonna say..#$22….Allie Reynolds..great pitcher for the Yankees late 40’s into the 50’s.
and one more time 12….and this is a wild stab…Gil McDougald…early 50’s Yankees 3rd baseman?
55,the # of fighting majors this season,19 for Prust 15 for Boogs,6 for Aves,4 for Dubi,4 for Cally,3 for Girardi,2 for Weise,and (for Wicky)2 for Byers.
#55 – Former Royals Pitcher Kevin Appier
Christian Backman, Igor Ulanov. I’m sure that made your day.
Good morning, boneheads!
I actually have a San Diego Chargers powder blue # 55 jersey…Junior Seau.
I would have preferred # 22, Keith Lincoln, but either way…is their a better jersey in all of professional sports than a San Diego Chargers old AFL powder blue jersey ?
Time to hit the courts. Later, you 12/22 placed fans. SI should stick to swimsuits.
Morning all!
#55- Tim Lincecum of the SF Giants.
#55- Ed Jovanovski
some other 55 notables,
Felix Potvin for the fish sticks in 99,
Ulf Samuelsson for the Flys in 00.
Sergei Gonchar
Joey Porter
Hideki Matsui
I would rank us a few places higher i think. Above Carolina, TB and possibly Atlanta.
The only way we can improve and make the playoffs is if Frolov and/or White can recreate one of their better years and if our young core (Dubi, AA, Cally) can take the next step in their development.
Ben Eager for this past year’s ‘Hawks.
UK, I agree. I think we are better than 12th in the East. More rest for Hank and the young core taking a step forward will ensure this.
One from this side of the pond – Stephen Cooper (English Ice Hockey legend).

Good morning all!
12 & 22 are my two favorite numbers! :)
#12 Patrick Rissmiller WOOOO
Eastern teams I’d rank ahead of the Rangers:
Pens/Flyers/Devils/Bruins/Caps
Teams the Rangers could compete against:
Habs/Sabres/Lightning/Canes
Teams the Rangers should be better than:
Islanders/Leafs/Sens/Thrashers/Panthers
Likely to be another 6th through 10th seed team. I think the Bolts are going to be a trendy pick to be a playoff team this year. They should have a pretty good offense, reasonable D and goaltending is going to be their X factor. Even if some of the guys are overpriced, I’d take a top group forwards of Stamkos/St. Louis/Gagne/Malone/Lecavalier than whatever the Rangers would have to offer outside of Gaborik.
so with our current roster pretty much set going into training camp (besides Stall who will be signed before then) who does everyone think has the best chance of upsetting a player from last year and stealing a roster spot?
My top two choices are McDonough(over Redden) and MZ Annsen, but not sure who he beats out.
I still don’t see White making the team right out of camp.
C’mon Training camp!!! August is getting super boring!
larry murphy: 55.
I think McDonagh, Stepan and Grachev will get a good look. McD was signed with a view to replace Redden i think and the other 2 will have to displace the likes of White, Christy and MZA to get a spot.
I think MZA will be given every chance to be 2nd/3rd line RW.
One thing i’m curious about is what will Redden do when waived/demoted? Will he refuse the assignment in order to become a UFA? or will he take his $$ and play at Hartford?
So Toronto got nothing for Sundin and now will get nothing for Kaberle?? ha ha
There is NO WAY Toronto re-signs him after this
If you thought we were bad now – take a look at the ‘54/’55 Rangers:
17-35-18 160GF 210GA
Right wing is going to really interesting in how it shakes out. Gaborik is obviously first line, but if MZA makes the team then it becomes a question of who’s second line- him or Callahan.
Frankly, I would have no problem with Callahan on third line. We already know he’ll get plenty of PK duty and most likely some PP time, but being on the third line and an energy-type guy could really benefit him in the long run.
somerset – Yahoo! puck daddy has a good article on it today, he’s a bit of a Burke-worshipper (i think) but he might just have shown some GM’s what the starting price might be come deadline day albeit he’s lost ultimate control of the situation now that the NTC has kicked back in, but if Kaberle feels unwelcome enough he might waive that come February for the chance at The Cup.
Donny marshall wore 22 in the 60’s
bill stafford nyy 60’s
my little league # was 12. didn’t bill robinson wear 12 on the yanks in the 60’s too?
#55
The number of times Hank will get bumped during the season.
The 2 hockey players I remember wearing 55 are Ed Jovanoski and Eric Daze. Whatever happened to Daze?
I can’t drive ” 55 ” !!!! ( Sammy Hagar)
#55 kronwall
Eastern teams I’d rank ahead of the Rangers:
0
55 = the # of cup cakes Fatso eats between periods when devs play @ isles
morning ILB, mama, and all!
So I thought it was interesting that the new rangers ECHL team owned by neil smith is a shared one with the flyers!!
And as for 55, ulfie with the flyers, jovo, and kronwall….all mentioned before!!
this came off of gross’ blog from today…....
It should be a fairly quiet rest of the month for the Rangers. In fact, there’s a decent chance the Rangers’ offseason activity has come to an end, save, of course, for the effort to come to a contract agreement with restricted free agent defenseman Marc Staal. Neither side is giving away any clues in the negotiations but it’s fair to say that it’s not a given Staal will be in the fold in time for the start of training camp on Sept. 17.
I think it is a mistake if slats doesn’t try to trade rozy or girardi to some of the teams that were interested in kaberle (especially rozy). We still need physicality badly on the blueline!
I don’t think there are many teams willing to accept Blowzy’s contract for more than a year.
Wouldn’t it be amazing if both he, and Dredden were sent to Hartford? That would be a dream come true.
orr
I agree on both statements!!!
OK You’ve got me again….Who is Blowzy?
Rozsival, the NHL’s 2005-06 joint leader in plus/minus.
http://theprospectpark.blogspot.com/2010/08/time-to-hand-out-some-homework.html
Quick link talking about a couple prospects.
Oh, and he shared that distinction with none other than….Wade Redden!
Fran,
blowzy is rosival…nickname based on fact that many fans feel he “blows” as far as hockey skills. Blows being a negative description.
Rosi to blowzy
Rozsival’s job that year was to pass the puck to Jagr.
Unfortunately that was all the guy knew how to do.
Roszival isn’t a bad d-man. He isn’t physical that’s why he is redundant on our team. He is overpaid, but his contract is very tradeable at the moment. Plenty of teams could use him. If he can be traded so we can sign a physical d-man, that would be great. His cap hit is $5M with actual salary of $3M.
Back to courts. Talk to you all later.
Not to be a jerk, but because I have always wondered and now feel the need to know…
Is English a second language to Jess rubenstein? I have always found his postings very difficult to read and find multiple typo’s. Kudos to him if English is a second language but can’t he get a proof reader or just spell check maybe?
And yes I know my posts are at times littered with errors but I’m typing a mile a minute on an iPhone and don’t usually care to proof my ramblings. But if I’m running a blog then I think I would correct errors or have somebody rewrite my stuff to be more easily read. Anybody else with me here?
Mike Gartner. Donn Clendenon.
Rozsival was co-leader of the +/- that year with none other than Redden when he was with the Senators… lol… ironic huh?
Gary Reasons: do any of you Giants fans remember the crucial goal-line stop that he made against Denver. Where he and the running back leaped and collided above the scrum like a couple of Rams? That was one of my favorite sport highlights ever… what a great play that was! Wish I could remember who had the ball for the Broncos in that game???
@@
I highly doubt Rozy is going anywhere. This team needs a vet d-man and I’d prefer him over Redden any day of the week and twice on Monday.
Eh, we have Eminger. I’m sure he’ll drop a couple of useless one liners to try and motivate them.
Joke ,jess rubi is a joke period. When he works for dubi he acts a nd talks like a saint but get him mad on any other site and he talks alot of s—- and uses all kinds of profanity. What a hypocrite and a jerk o—
True, there is Eminger. But in reality I can’t see him being a regular. I figure he’s more a 7th than anything else. Unless there are injuries.
Hi Gang!
Just stopping by…damn I miss this place!
“Joke ,jess rubi is a joke period. When he works for dubi he acts a nd talks like a saint but get him mad on any other site and he talks alot of s—- and uses all kinds of profanity. What a hypocrite and a jerk o—”
Couldn’t agree more. I made him look like a total tool, and he couldn’t handle it and ran behind his butt-buddy Dubi Silvercreepylookingstein, and he banned me.
I’m convinced that
Mickey, or if Torts’ viagra powered hard-on for Gilroy hasn’t went down. Remember, he played the Lion from Wizard Of Oz over Gilly, down the stretch at least. Which I didn’t agree with, by the way.
Heya Staal!
Orr, I wasn’t happy with that either, but I think Gilroy was so overmatched at that point in the season that it was necessary for him to sit. I do agree that Torts seems luke-warm on him though. If he doesn’t show some defensive ‘jam’ (god do I hate that word, btw) AND his offensive flair that he had in last pre-season, I have a feeling he could Prucha’d more than we’d like.
Happy Monday afternoon kiddies!! 32 days until camp!
Giant superbowl linebacker Kawika Mitchell wore 55
The freek Lincecum 55
Former Ranger great Christian Backman wore 55 for the 3 horrile months he was here
Current Ranger Steve Eminger wore it in 09 witht the Panthers
Ulf Samuellson wore 55 for a year with the Flyers
The countdown has begun eh?
I hope that this season isn’t a reply of last years… explosive break out and then like a dying rocket, instant fizzle from there on in. Rarely if ever did they approach the performance of that early dozen or so games. And it wasn’t all just fatigue’ something happened and it wasn’t all injuries, but the spirit seemed to desert them …collectively, and I cannot help but think that it had something to do with Tortorella and his behavior. Maybe not, but the signs seemed to point to it.
I got that same feeling about the Mets at the beginning of this season also..and now I don’t even want to know what they did on the field any more. They are all ghosts.
Let’s hope that 2011 is a magic era for Rangers,to rise up and prove that they belong as reps for this great City.
(* Replay ..not reply)
I just found out that Natalie Portman is vegan. That’s too bad.
That game last season against San Jose is when it all went down hill. I remember it perfectly. We were on such a tear, and were still doing good, until they beat us. After that, it was the start of some boring hockey. I was begging for the Olympics.
Hi Staal!!
staal
how much money are you asking for??
Serial concussion victim Keith Primeau, serial Lundqvist runner Jason Blake and serial talentless meatface Cam Janssen.
I like Cam Janssen. That guy is a cyborg. Heavy hitter too. I’d rather have him over Boogaard.
This is a good one. Rypien vs Janssen
Greg wrote:
Well put yer Money where yer mouth is. I will run with Redden .So $20 says someone from Sasquatchwan will score 5 or more. Too scared to do it..arnt you.
************
Greg, I ain’t scared, baby! I will take the bet.
If any of your Sasquatchwan boys (Redden, Booger, Byers or whoever) score 5 or more goals (NHL ONLY) you will become a proud owner of my $20! And if not…well, you know…
But wait, there is MORE… IF Byers makes the team straight out of camp…I’ll make you $10 richer! And if not…well, you know…
Deal OR No Deal?
Gilroy had his first NHL season. He never played that many games, let alone on that level. He deserves to stay and develop. Forget the goal itself. Look hoe he retrieves the puck and moves ahead. Anyone with that skill deserves to be on the team. Very few of our players can properly pass and receive the puck:

LMAO- I just realized that Matt Macarrone (#85) was centering that line in preseason.
22nd and 12th? Ouch. And that’s WITH a great goalie and one of the top 5 scorers in the league last year. They must REALLY think the rest of this team sucks. Although I probably woulda said 20th and 10th haha
55….....keith primeau….....
is that number of concussions, reg?
No, Carp, number of kids he has
I remember him handing Graves one of the few fighting losses of his career one night during a center-ice line brawl at the Joe. The same night Kocur fought Probert.
I liked Primeau…
The Leafs are against the cap and with 8 NHL defensemen. Something has to give.
Burke should give someone the Finger.
rimshot..
i guess im banned
oh there we go. finally
A guy joins a monastery and takes a vow of silence: he’s allowed to say two words every seven years.
After the first seven years, the elders bring him in and ask for his two words. “Cold floors,” he says. They nod and send him away.
Seven more years pass. They bring him back in and ask for his two words. He clears his throats and says, “Bad food.” They nod and send him away.
Seven more years pass. They bring him in for his two words. “I quit,” he says. “That’s not surprising,” the elders say. “You’ve done nothing but complain since you got here.”
so what happened with the leafs ilbzo??
ha, good one t!

“staal
how much money are you asking for??”
Well since I am better than both Redden and Rozi…
I askedSather for a 55 year, 5.5 million dollar contract, and 55 boxes of Cubans
mmmmm…Cubans!
It was all about business for Burke, I’m sure. But also, he doesn’t know whether he will get a better deal for him at the deadline. And by then he will have to ask Kaberle where he wants to play. And yet, he didn’t trade him just to trade him. He didn’t move the player who spent 12 year with the Leafs and has his family to move. He will give him the choice where he and his family want to go when the time comes. In other words, he didn’t do what Sather did to Leetch.
hey, ilb, how’d the acing assens and backhanding byfugs go?
CCCP, excellent!
Grabby, you will never be banned so long as mama has a bone(head) in her body :)
No Laurel…you’re excellent!
true fact, C3P, but thanks for sharing :)
not to be totally unexcellent, but I’ve been seriously out of pocket the past few days. Really, and I hate to bring this up, but no Kovy deal yet?? WTB? Me wonders about this now….
Time for the NHL to cut goalie trapezoid
very interesting article…
http://www.thehockeynews.com/articles/34769-Campbells-Cuts-Time-for-the-NHL-to-cut-goalie-trapezoid.html
Dirty Sanchez with an interception. Bwaha!
He’s dating Meadow Soprano. He should have held on to Aves’ chick. I’m not nuts aboot either.
Good find C3P! I found it very interesting, even the bit about icing (icing MickeyM! inside joke all).
OK, ORR’s on to a whole other sport and gibberish/jibberish. I’m fried…see you all later. TA!
CCCP “T” ,Krugar guy ….Im saying Redden gets waived and scores over 5 in Hartford or he refuses hartford and scores over 5 on another team. Thats the one yer scared of. I like your bet but im thinking of the details first before I “ok” it. If only NHL is included then $20 is way too much. I’d go $10 on the NHL part but if ya want $20 we have to include the AHL too. Plus If Redden signs with another team cuz he doesnt wanna be demoted to Hartford , I lose him in our bet .( believe me ,ya aint tricking me on that part.)
Best #55 in ANY sport. EVER. Sure fire HOF:

ORR owes me $20 if Boogaard scores 5 or more this year.
LW3H owes me $10 if Boogaard scores 5 or more this year.
Cr9 owes me $20 if Boogaard scored 1 or more this year.
Phil owes me $10 if Boogaard scores 3 or more this year.
CCCP owes me $20 if someone from Sask scores 5 or more. ( bet is still being structured)
Playoffs included in all bets.
Too bad there wont be any playoffs this year :P
Grabby. Sounds good. I haven’t been playing, and I just sold the game, so I’ll be rusty.
Speaking of NHL11. It’s nice to see that they gave the players hats when they win the Stanley Cup. I like attention to detail.
This game better be kick ass. I didn’t realize it was coming out so soon. I’m gonna have to tighten the wallet. I thought it was coming out in October.
Enjoying those special brownies, eh grabby?
HAHA Nice to have Linda back!! Blog lost some wit when ya weren’t here .
Thanks Greggy ;-)
I second that.
55 – the number of stitches currently in Eli Manning’s head.
Eli joke = hilarious…
