Now what happens after the arbitration-upheld rejection of the Ilya Kovalchuk contract?
Does anybody really think the NHL will go after the contracts of Chris Pronger, Marian Hossa, Roberto Luongo and Marc Savard, as some have suggested. Would the league have the guts to un-do a contract under which a full season has already been played? Wouldn’t that just be the start of a whole string of legal proceedings and lawsuits?
And what happens to Kovalchuk (poll on the right)?
Well, at least the Devils and Kovalchuk and the NHL and the arbitrator have given everybody some hockey to discuss in August.

Yahtzee!!
I don’t think an arbitrator needs to look at those contracts now. Bloch already has. And he’s said they circumvent the cap. The league can unregister them.
re-post
The reason why signing Kovalchuk doesn’t make sense is not that he’s overrated (he’s not – he’s very, very good), or that he doesn’t do well in the playoffs (he was the Devils leading point getter in the playoffs) or that he wants too much money (which he does). It’s the freakin’ length of the contract. To be obligated to pay a guy 9 or 10 million dollars 10 years from now is crazy. I would definitely do it if the contract length was for 5 or maybe 6 years, but not 10 years.
The problem will lie with the contracts that he has not specifically addressed. At what point does a salary drop become too significant. The current CBA restriction is a joke. In a few seasons, a salary can go from 10M to the league minimum. It allows exponential decay.
Coach Beeblebrox – This is just semi-educated speculation…so take it for what its worth…Kovalchuk said early on he wanted to play in the spotlight and also liked the metropolitan area. My theory is that the Dreger rumor(which was very short-lived) likely came from Kovalchuk contacting the Rangers, saying ‘is there any way?’ The Rangers probably sat on it for a day, put together the X’s and O’s and realized it would be totally irrational to spend so much cash on a guy like Kovy, who essentially fills none of their holes and would take up between $7 million and $10 million of their cap space. Even with Rozsival traded and Redden buried, the $10 million figure would be impossible for the Rangers to handle with Lundqvist, Gaborik, Drury and shortly, Staal in the uber-millionaire’s club.
I’m sure you can agree, the point of tinkering with a roster is to improve it. When you have to rework your defense, and sacrifice money to improve a very weak center’s position, it doesn’t make any sense to sign a guy who would essentially make one of your stars(Gaborik) second fiddle on the wing. At the end of 24 hours, the Rangers probably called back and said ‘thanks but no thanks.’
I had also read some speculation the Kings had offered to take Gaborik, which would have thus opened both cap space and a winger position for Kovalchuk. But again, I get back to what I said above. You tinker with a roster to make it better, not the same.
Charlie,
Agree with you 100%. Kovalchuk is currently worth every dollar he’s seeking per season. The problem lies somewhere between here and year 10 when his skills have started to erode.

Who the hell is CHRIS T? is that JOSH T’s little brother?
Mickey
You touched kovy??? EEEWWWWWW! Lysol, NOW!!!!
and thank you wickmeister!! i took some pain relievers and am feeling bit better. gonna take a nap now. later aasens.
Darren – i agree with you and i think the next CBA will see some sort of clarification on that point in that there will be a maximum variation from the average cap hit (say 50%).
I think this deal will go through with some minor changes, both sides will need to compromise: Lou will have to take a cap hit more like $8-8.5m and shorten the length by a few years and K’chuk is going to have to lower his salary demands by $1-2m per.
All these long term bloated contracts are making me thirsty.
interesting article:
http://rangers.nhl.com/club/news.htm?id=535783&cmpid=rss-News%20in%20English
Phil:
I agree that is possible, that’s all I was saying. I have no doubt the Rangers kicked the tires, maybe offered Kovalchuk a 3-4 year deal, or even a 1-2 year deal, for something along the lines of $7.5 million perhaps. Or maybe even less. They might have simply low balled Kovalchuk and said “let’s see if he wants to be a Ranger, or he wants money”. That would explain the Dreger comments. He was saying if Kovalchuk is going to be a Ranger, he’s going to have to do it on their terms not his.
Which we know would be the end of the story. Kovalchuk has said he thinks he should be paid on par with Ovechkin et all. Which we know is ludicrous. Kovalchuk is not Ovechkin no matter how hard his agent tries to spin it.
But even if they wanted him, even at a discount, they don’t anymore after inking Frolov.
As you said, this team cannot gut out these big salaries. Maybe one (Redden) but certainly not two or all three.
UKRanger,
I think the new CBA might be better served allowing a contract’s salary to decay than tying each year to the average cap hit. We expect player contribution to decay with age after a player’s peak, so the dollars paid should be allowed to reflect that. However, player skills don’t drop off at the rate that salaries are currently allowed [in most cases]. A simpler solution might be requiring each year’s salary to be no less than 80% of the previous year’s [or some other reasonable scale].
Good morning, Sally!
wicky, I did NOT, for a fact, touch Kovalchuk. Even the thought of that makes me shudder and want to throw up.
The worst part about this decision is all the yahoos coming out the woodwork and suggesting/saying/reporting that the Ranger are in on/should be in on/are working on reworking the roster in order to get Kovalchuk. Someone stop the merry-go-round cause I want OFF before it starts up again.
I know we all get pretty worked up about our team and sports in general. But pretty hard not to find some perspective after reading this, if only for a brief while.

If the Rags don’t get this guy they’ll be a bottom five team in the league for 8 or 10 years,GUARANTEED,MARK IT DOWN you heard it here first.why wouldn’t u gut this team to do it? They aren’t goin anywhere except the basement with this group.that’s for sure.
Biron has 4 kids? Talking about diapers…The article mentioned he played for Flyers and Rangers, I think they meant Islanders.
joebob? is it like that “CatDog” cartoon?
later assens!
I think the league should look into the REDDEN contract and void it immediately!!! Let’s all chip in to get this done :)
joebob
then why do you root for a team like that? why don’t you comeback in 8 or 10 years…or better yet find another team…what kind of a fan are you, calling this team Rags?
Nice story, CGB…
hey joebob 2 times- gotta get the papers, get the papers. we heard ya the first time ok jingle bells?

If the league starts voiding contracts left and right the players will go on strike.
lol @ Rags! Well, when we win the Cup this year, we’ll have gone from Rags to Riches! Bazinga!
yea i did call them the rags, what would you like me to call them, the beasts of the east? because i mean they are so great and all and have so much top end talent, you clown.
it doesn’t matter if the Rangers were interested in Kovalchuk way back when, once they signed Frolov that meant any minute chance of Kovalchuk went out the window…
Yeah, What Rangers fan calls the team they love “The Rags” ?? Sounds like a Devils fan that doesnt want Kovy back now that they got rid of him
and cccp,im a diehard which is why seeing this team so atrocious on both ends of the ice makes me so upset, they have ONE skilled player on the roster ONE THEY CANT COMPETE OR DIDNT YOU WATCH THEM LAST YEAR?
go away Joebob…silent treatment anyone?
silent treatment for joebob and rod gilbert. if nobody reads or responds to their comments, are their comments really there? :)
Very surprised that the league is even considering going after other contracts. That will open whole new can of worms. They made their point, what’s the reason to flex their muscles at the moment? We are two months before the season starts. It’s obvious the issue will need to be addressed during the new CBA, what else will they achieve now?
no other contracts will get voided there will be no strike the players aren’t that stupid this time around. the league should have looked into this for once after the Progner deal but whatever. joke league.
you guys just cant accept that the rangers are and always will be bottom feeding trash, accept it,im out bottom feeders.
what is it with some of the posters here recently? subhuman? now the Rangers and us fans are bottom feeders?
Um, I wish the Rangers were bottom feeders for years in a row, making them able to land Crosby and Malkin.
Unfortunately, the Rangers are always middle of the pack and dont tank seasons. We dont throw seasons like the Penguins in order to get Fleury, Staal, Malkin, Crosby.

In your interpretation, I guess BBLLTP is Big Boobs Looks Like True Pleasure. Am I right?
Beware. Bettman is firming up his power base. He doesn’t care about the big market teams or fans. It’s the owners who pay the outrageous salaries, and it’s the owners who are fighting each other. The upcoming lockout will be more of the same.
And it was not a strike in 2004-05, it was a lockout. The salary cap has benefited small market teams, of which there are many. The NHL’s success in the past few years comes from Shanahan’s committee and from great young players. But that fact is secondary to Bettman and the owners—they only care about the monetary value of their clubs. Don’t be fooled. The NHL is blaming the players already in preparation for their upcoming lockout.
kc lol whatever. there’s not going to be a lockout related to this. quit reading that fish wrap called the Toronto Sun.
CGBlue… great, but very sad story… thanks for sharing!
@@
with a salary cap there is no reason for the owners to have a lockout. this is on the players. and they aren’t going to play their hand too strong again so please stop with that rubbish. with a lockout the KHL > NHL for years.
I don’t see how Bettman can review contracts the league has already approved, with or without the arbitrator’s decision. It’s be one thing if they were signed this summer…but the guys who have already played? That would be a major legal battle between the NHLPA and the NHL that would really damage the sport on a number of different fronts.
If anything, I bet he’s doing this to send a message and strike the fear of god into any team looking to dole out another one of these contracts.
test
This is a question for those in the know or that have an understanding of the next CBA talks – no, not rod. Carp, ilb, Tr, etc.
Will the existence of a salary cap be an issue for the players at the CBA talks?
Is there any possibility that the salary cap is gotten rid of?
Ok folks, totaly off the subject here I have pass on my delight of what happen to me last week. My wife and I are huge flea market fans and usually go weekly to one flea market or another. Well last week was the LONGEST YARD SALE it is a event that happens every year and is the first weekend in August. The sale goes between the the state of Alabama thru Tenesee, Kentucky, Ohio and then this year Michigan came into to the picture. So my wife and I took our vacation last week to do this, we started in Alabama and made it thru Kentucky. But what you might chuckle about this is one of the first sales I was at, in the 101 degree temps, in the state of Alabama. I found Henrik Lundquist jersey, brand new, it was the 2008 with the Leetch patch of his jersey retirement beautifull I paid a whopping 40.00. IN THE STATE OF ALABAMA FOLKS. I could have gone home right then, I didn’t need to shop any more. I will never ever forget that moment.
“Will the existence of a salary cap be an issue for the players at the CBA talks?

”
It doesn’t matter because the answer to your second question is no.
4ever, you got the BB right, but the rest was wrong.
If you want some nice summer reading…

Hockeyman, you should have called while u were in Alabama, would have been nice to see a fellow Bonehead in these parts
it is very simple. if the nhlpa union is willing to lose about 230 jobs for its members, then by all means go ahead and lop off 10 weak franchises, and go back to the days of big markets can spend all they want
but be aware of the fact that it will cost 230 players their jobs. and those players better be damn careful how they vote, cuz they will be cutting their own financial throats if they allow a return to the non-cap era.
the only thing hockey fans have to fear is
Fehr himself !
Hockeyman, that is an awesome find. Congrats!
Could we please get Bettman and the NHL to look into Wade Redden’s contract?!? :-)
CR, not a chance. They lost an entire season to get the salary cap. They’re not going to give it up.
Noah … that reading might be down a bit on my summer list.
Well thank you for the invite Lindi we were in Gadsden Wedneday. About 1 1/2 from Chatnooga, any where near you?? Of coarse it was said to be the hottest day of the year so far.
Thanks MickeyM every time I think about all I can do is smile.
I don’t blame the players for wanting to cash in for their services , of course the owners don’t want to pay top dollar but often have to to put some type of talent on the ice.
Maybe Ilya will have settle for a bit less to be a Devil and Lou will have to pay more and be bit by the cap,or its the KHL.
Hockeyman, we are in Huntsville. I believe Gadsden is further south and west of us. I am not too far from the Marshall space flight center and redstone arsenal. Hope you had a safe, fun trip
too bad we’ve got idiots like joebob sniffing Kovalsucks hiney and fawning all over him. probably a debbie fan, one of the few, and p.o.ed that his little darling debbies can’t run roughshod over the rules ….poor baby
Amazing the people that show up here lately. Rod Gilbert, who knows absolutely everything but won’t tell us anything, and boejob who knows absolutely nothing and won’t shut up.
Hockeyman, that is awesome!!!
Perhaps I missed something trying to decipher this absolute plethora of interpretations of the particulars of these signings, from all participants in their attempts to enlighten us. I am not only unenlightened, I’m completely confused.
There are so many postings, some with a droll intent, but many seemingly informative. Problem is that now I’m not sure which is which.
For instance, I’d have to go back to the bare beginnings of all this just to comprehend now that the league has made it’s position known. Here’s one piece that I’m not sure I get…..Is the league objection due to the length of the contract, or the amount, or a combination of both? If so, what do they think would be appropriate in either case, as an example?
And does the DiPietro contract have anything to do with their position? For that was a case of ooohhing and awwwing at the time, but seems to be now on the back burner.
Totally confused.
Maybe everyone should ignore Rod Eklund, and he’ll go away.
That usually works for that one Devil fan.
fran, in a nutshell, the point of contention is that the salary drops so drastically in the final years of the deal, so it circumvents the salary cap. That’s the NHL’s interpretation. I think (and may be wrong, but too lazy to check) that Kovalchuk (and the Prongers, etc.) would earn only three percent or so of their entire contracts over the final years.
Carp:
The NHL’s point of contention was the length, there was not enough precedent of an NHL player, actually playing at the age of 44. If I recall, only Howe did it, and one is not nearly enough.
There is also something in the CBA about the final years of a contract equal to some percentage of the initial year. Or something to that effect.
I think had the Devils taken 4 years off the deal, and said Kovalchuk was going to play until he was 39-40 the NHL might not have won.
From the NY Post:
One seemingly insignificant matter—a change from a no-movement clause to a no-trade clause after Year 11—had significant sway in arbitrator Richard Bloch’s ruling that the contract constituted circumvention of the collective bargaining agreement’s salary cap provisions.
Bloch noted that the no-trade switch provided the Devils a waiver route to get out of the final six years of Kovalchuk’s $6 million cap hit. That, combined with the larger issue of the massive front-loading of the contract, violated Article 11.6 (A)(i) of the CBA, which lists circumvention as a valid reason for voiding a contract.
Thanks Carp…plain English I understand. ( Even when it’s spoken.)
( If I’m not mistaken, Gordy was actually on the ice and in a game when he was 51. I know he was way up there when he went on the ice for the Whalers.)
You know the old Whalers really did some brain dead things for promos though. Baldwin & Co. They held a parade for the team thru Hartford, when they clinched the eastern title.Ugh.
If I’m not mistaken Joel Quenville was on that team…..
But putting Johnny McKenzie’s shirt up there in the rafters with Gordy’s was ridiculous. Career minor leaguer at best, but feisty and crowd favorite uh uh.
But the topper came, when they put Rick Ley’s shirt up there.
Know what they used to call him? Diagonal-Ley What a laugh that was.
His pet play ( and most agonizing one to watch) was to collect the puck deep in his goal line corner feed a diagonal pass cross rink to a breaking forward on the opposite boards.. Know how often it was intercepted for a goal?
Almost always. He never got it. He kept right on .. till the end. They were good fans, ...but the management wasn’t too bright.
Coach, if the salaries didn’t diminish over the last several years, I don’t think the league would have cared if it was a 34-year contract. Circumvention of the cap was the issue.
Just curious, how old was Messier when he retired? How old was Chelios (older than dirt)?
Fran, I covered Gordie Howe’s return to the Whalers at age 51.
On the awesome scale, this blog ranks right up there with air conditioning and novocaine.
“Fran, I covered Gordie Howe’s return to the Whalers at age 51.”
gee, that must mean you’re about 80 now Carp. and Josh is still only 26
Carp:
It was a combo of the two points really. The money shrink, would not be possible without the long term.
Messier was 43
Chelios was 47 but only a part time NHLer.
So only Howe and Chelios had NHL contracts at the age of 44. As far as I know they are the only two in history. Perhaps there is another I don’t know about, but still its not enough for the Devils to say Kovalchuk was going to play at 44.
Obviously the percentage of the money in those last few years made it too obvious. Like I said the one could not exist without the other.
“On the awesome scale, this blog ranks right up there with air conditioning and Novocaine.”
That means we’re cool, and numb to irritating posters.
At age 51, Howe played 80 games that season! And scored 15 goals, 26 assists.
Wow.
At age 43, Messier played 76 games, scored 18 goals, 25 assists. He shot 17.3% on the season.
Howe was just a freak of nature, plain and simple. And to think he did that without PEDs makes it even more stunning.
mickey
sorry I misunderstood the kovy thing, disregard the lysol!!!
later assens!
no, the most amazing thing about Gordie’s great longevity was the fact that he overcame a severe, life threatening injury to do it all
As his career just started going, Howe sustained the worst injury of his career, fracturing his skull in a collision with Toronto Maple Leafs captain Ted Kennedy into the boards during the 1950 playoffs. The severity of the fracture was such that he was taken to the hospital for emergency surgery in order to relieve building pressure on his brain. The next season, he returned to record 86 points, winning the scoring title by 20 points.
that is HOWE great he is.
Dang you Gordie, you beat me to the punch on that joke with Carp!

This is from the latest article in NY Post. The last paragraph:
“The Kings reportedly offered Kovalchuk a 15-year deal worth $80 million, the exact $6 million salary cap hit the Devils agreed to over 17 years.”
Uhm, no…I guess the math isn’t their strong part. 15 years at $6M per would amount to $90M contract.

what’s the difference to you what we talk about on here? you’re not supposed to be here…remember, you promised to never comeback? Be a man…stick to you word… disappear!
Yeah Olga, but it’s not much.

A REVELATION!!!
I bet Sather talks deal with all 30 teams.
Greg- not ulimate, but right up there next to it…
See Olga,
You asked (in a smartass, snotty way) but I answered anyway, and you come back with that GARBAGE.
Are you all stoned? Is that it? Cause that might make sense.
“hey joebob 2 times- gotta get the papers, get the papers. we heard ya the first time ok jingle bells?”
When Grabby said that ..I bursted out laughing!!! Awsome post man .
All 30 teams, Olga? Maybe only 29, cause Sather won’t deal with the Rangers GM.
Your “information” is worthless.
“Supposedly”? That just makes it sound like you don’t know anything either. What deal? Who for what? At least make it sound real… or do I have to supply the players names and where they are going?
see Olga ,
You said the Hawks we so good but they won the Cup with a player who was invalid. Just like when Dallas beat Buffalo ,it was ovious Brett Hull’s foot was in the crease. Chicago lost half it’s core players and have an illegal Hossa. I’m sure glad I don’t cheer on that team. Not to mention no Stanley Cup winning goalie.
Sources out in desert denying Yotes involvement.
Said the other day it involved Marc Savard but he wasn’t landing here.
Take that needlessly bitchy attitude over to your mother’s.
You know what to do.

Greg- Hossa was legal when they won the Cup. As of now, he’s still legal. Why don’t you wait until they resolve the contracts before you make pronouncements.
BTW- What’s ovious? Eggs?
Greg, you’re amazing. How the fugg did you get that??
see Olga ,
You said… ( gotta love starting out “see Olga ,” thats gotta be a new catch phrase).
Rod Gilbert ,please change yer name. Your disrespecting a Ranger legend. Have some class . If your gonna use his name , stop acting the fool and quit embarrasing yourself and all of us cuz quite frankly im sick of your immature childish disrespectfull blob behavior. You need to have some respect around here and stop saying garage to Momma and our regualars.
Orr , I was just thinking ( using a little bit of me psycic power) ...it is what you look for in a woman.
Well, I don’t really look for bblltp.
I don’t mind boobage size! Whether they’re watermelons, or hershey’s kisses, It’s no big deal. As long as they’re not hangers. I do love long legs, but the last part isn’t something I think aboot.
For the record, before I get in trouble, I only said bblltp because I didn’t think anyone was going to get it!!
Orr … let’s get away from that, OK?
And Rod, your information and opinions are welcome here, but please watch the mother stuff, OK?
What’s blob behavior?
Rod- illegal drugs? EMLA and LMX are local anesthetics. Both are creams. One is available over the counter, one by prescription. Both FDA approved. I’m suspecting that your inside hockey knowledge is very close to your knowledge in pharmacology since you made both statements with similar aplomb.
Sure thing, Carp.
::points finger at Greg::
Sure thing Carp.
Rod- Blob behavior is making yourself seem bigger by pretending to have inside information about hockey.
well ORR, you were half right!
Right Olga.
Except Im not pretending.
You don’t seem to have any information either…
he’s not pretending…he really does not know anything! Hey, at least he’s SOMEBODY!
Greg! Your post at 8:29! hisss..
Carp, I also asked to somebody to nix the mother stuff the other day.
ORR, down boy!
ilb :) gotta love the doc!
He coulda been somebody! He coulda been a pretender…
Olga,
You’d get more – from the NHL – not necessarily the Rangers – if you didn’t act like such a punk.
You too CCCP.
I told Olga that she was hanging around with a bad crowd. CCCP you’re a bad influence on poor Olga. You aren’t allowed to be around Olga anymore. You have to be at least two posts away from her at all times.
who’s palm do we have to grease to rule redden’s contract null and void.
Eddie- that’ll take a lot of grease.
ilb, or a lot of EMLA and LMX.
ok, so did I miss anything??
greasy palms or hairy palms. let the debate begin
Nah, wicky…Just don’t mix up grease with crease…
ilb
oh, ok!!
And Greg say not to be saying garage to Momma and the other regulars. I’m still trying to decipher that one….
LMAO, Olga. Ask Yukon, he parks in there.
Olga, thanks, I think, but huh?
btw Greg and I, we OK. he gets newspaper’d sometimes, but like a puppy, not a bad dog :)
Found this one the other day. Thought it was interesting:

Somebody told me something that’s supposedly going to happen at sometime. But I’m not telling nobody here because you are all not somebody. But just to keep you guessing I will say that it might involve the rangers. Anybody guess what I have no idea what I am saying to nobody but myself? I’m going in peace now and will never ever return…until later tonight when somebody tells me differently and then I will come here to make sure your still not talking about the hot rumor I never divulged in the first place. And say hello to your mother for me.
Do any of you know why Marc staal hasn’t signed with the rangers yet. How come that isn’t being discussed?
Joke, LMOA, but…..I hate to say this, but really all, what is up with Staal? We sure did talk about it, but he fell off the radar? Forget Kovalsaga….what about Staal!
Staal’s not being discussed mostly because you guys are preoccupied with me.
He hasn’t been signed because Rangers want his first few years of FA included, Staal’s agent’s not giving them up without getting max dollars they feel entitled to.
I don’t think Marc Staal’s worth $4.3M a year (some nights not even half that!).
Do you?
staal plays for the pens!
Mama,
I wasn’t going to tell anyone but we are trading Marc staal for Bobby Ryan AND kovulchuk. We just have to wait for redden for kaberle deal to be announced…
Ok all joking aside, I think jeter may gave just seriously injured a fan in Texas. Bat went into stands.
ilb
interesting article. voros didn’t make the last list (good thing).
Thre is no particular rush to sign him either. They have enough summer cap cushion not to be afraid of any offer sheet. The deal will eventually be done and he will be in camp or soon after it starts. Thay need to do it the right way.
Hey rod,
do you know it’s a scientific fact that if your hand is larger than your face then you are a genious?
wicky, of course, I forgot that! But what about the “other” Staal? Seriously all….let’s go back to that…wtb?
Wicky- the article was written in 2007, he hasn’t gotten into his most memorable bouts yet.
Hey Joke,
Do you know most men don’t spend their formative years blowing their own father?
Geez, this is getting outright dumb.
Oh, that might earn you a ban??
check this one out boys and girls… Cherepanov’s grave
http://i36.tinypic.com/2ednzfb.jpg
Sweet grave.
mama
he plays for carolina (actually 2 of them do)
Sad, CCCP. They post that stuff on “odnoklassniki”? Interesting…
I thought you would point out the misspelled genius, but you went right for the incestuous humor. I hope carp doesn’t catch the post or your gone. I hope you don’t get banned because you add so much inside info to the blog.
I have a feeling that mama is busy removing that “brilliant” post by Rod at 10:34. Which will make my post calling my own previous one “dumb”. And I’ll be very happy to live with that.
I heard on the little house on the prairie, Eklund’s outhouse that is, that a big trade is possible involving somebody from the Rangers, and somebody from the Bruins. now if somebody wants to know the particular details, just send $20 per month for a membership in the Somebody Elite, where nobodies become somebodies at the drop of a checkbook.
I don’t know if you people, people who need people, are the luckiest people in the world, but somebody can join us and become the luckiest and get all the juicy trade rumors before the GMs even know they are making them. wow, my mother would be so proud.
ilb
there’s a whole hockey group on odnaklassniki…pretty cool one too…i got it from “Avangard Omsk” album
Ha! thanks, CCCP. I’ll check it out.
they have some sweet Jarg picture…ill post them on fb later
yeah..check it out… its called ” V xokkei igrayut nastoyashie muzhchiny!”
Good night, boneheads! Another hockey without hockey day tomorrow…
I always get sad when chere gets brought up. That kid had the bigger smile on his face after being drafted and just seemed so full of life. Cliche I know.
Biggest smile…goodnight all
Right. It’s ok to call Wade Redden a crackhead though…
Hey Joke, are you Theo Fleury?
night ILB
hey CR9
are you not on fb anymore?
the reason Staal isnt talked about is b/c everyone knows he will be resigned eventually.
How did Rod Gilbert’s post at 10:34 get past the sensors? Not even a newspaper to the nose?
Spare the Rod and spoil the blog.
Goodbye, Rod. You’re out.
Hey losers. Got a litte scoop for you but you suck so you reading it might not make it come true: Rangers are looking into a trade for a top 12 forward. Or top 6 defenseman. NOT A GOALIE! The trade will involve either a player or a draft pick (or both, or multiples of one, or multiples of both, or multiples of one and just one of the other) going to the other team. The guy the Rangers are looking to get, and I know his name but I’m not telling it to you until after the trade, is a pro. A pro hockey player. Mark my words, this will go down before 01-01-2012. You guys all suck. I’m leaving for good. See you all tomorrow.
Hey Carp, I promise I won’t source Rod Gilbert (I) if you don’t want me to. I know just as much as he does anyway.
All, don’t ever underestimate the blogfather or the blogmama.
See Olga… (You’re right Greg it has a ring to it) Olga you really have Carp’s ear. Do you plan on giving it back?
You guys don’t deserve this, but the player the NYR have targeted is Vinny.
Likliest @ deadline, maybe by Xmas.
Carp,
That’s incredibly seletive enforcement, considering what you’ve let go on here, but I don’t care.
Thanks for the hard work on Kovalchuk and of course the indepth series on the disasterous sather years you never bothered to write.
FIRE SATHER! I’ve done my part.
good night elizabeth!!
Rod got the boot?
Now we’ll never gonna know what Rod didn’t know and wasn’t gonna tell us!
rod lives…see my earlier post. TA!
nice try, rod lives.
So long as you saw it carp…....
I ALSO PREDICT THINGS WILL HAPPEN!!!!!!!
I’m Jewish…do I still get Vinny for Christmas?
hey Rod…any info on that 2012 end of the world thing?
Momma,
Just a wild guess here…. size 14?
C3P, you’ll get nothing and like it!
(name that movie. should be easy)
Don’t worry about the world ending CCCP, it will last as long as you live…
rod Lives! I can get rid of you, too, if you don’t cut it out. And I will.
Caddyshack!!
C3P wins!
Where it began
I can’t begin to knowin’
But then I know it’s growin’ strong
Was in the spring
And spring became the summer
Who’d have believed you’d come along
Hands, touchin’ hands
Reachin’ out
Touchin’ me
Touchin’ you
Sweet Caroline
Good times never seemed so good
I’ve been inclined
To believe they never would
But now I
Look at the night
And it don’t seem so lonely
We fill it up with only two
And when I hurt
Hurtin runs off my shoulders
How can I hurt when I’m with you
Warm, touchin’ warm
Reachin’ out
Touchin’ me
Touchin’ you
Sweet Caroline
Good times never seemed so good
I’ve been inclined
To believe they never would
Sweet Caroline
I still like that song.
I am so tired….ta!
Olga, WTB??? good song tho. niters…
Good night, boys and girls.
Good night, Sally!
You don’t remember Kasper’s pick for the Rangers locker room song?
Sweet Caroline…
Baaa, Paaa, Paaa…
Good times never seemed so good.
Olga, my niece’s middle name is from that song, but for my brother and sister-in-law, it came from a different sport and team from a specific moment. I don’t hold it against her :)
Must sign off now. TA!
If only you were such a tough guy with glen sather, carp, ranger fans would be better off.
No stress, once and for all, over and out.
Last Call, Kids! Drink up!
One day closer to Camp!
See Olga ,
If we misbehave , Carp will ban our name and then we come back using a different one.
“Spare the Rod and spoil the blog.”
Good one, Olga! : )
Dammit – Rod got the boot, now i’m going to have to start looking at Ekhack’s website once a week to catch up on “insider” info.
Going back to the K’chuk’s contract i would challenge the guy to spread he dollars more evenly and make the tail of the contract a bit more valuable to prove he is planning to play for so long. Looking at the structure of the nixed deal is was blatant that those last 6 years are only there to spread the cap hit. The true contract is $98.5m over 11 years which is $8.95m per year and would be just about maxing NJ to the summer cap, no way Lou does that.
You could say he is worried about keeping Parise next year but he will have $4.5m freed up from Arnott and $2.8 from Langenbrunner which he can re-assign to Parise. I think Lou is just testing the waters as he knows there is little or no competition for the guy and it could just be a ploy to show Kovy that his demands need to come down, and also to give the other teams a warning.
Dear Olga
Interesting lyrics…sung no doubt to the tune of the Whiffenpoof song?
I love Fran’s reaction to all lunacy going on on the blog. He doesn’t pay attention. Are we ever going to be that mature?
