I don’t know that any team has made any moves today that will significantly change their standing from last year (except Chicago’s sell-off), but that’s also a reflection of the mediocre talent pool out there. The only game-breaker is Kovy. Anything else will be through trade.
Otherwise, it’s teams filling in holes and trading parts, while Sather once again overpays (though $1.65M is better than his usual $6.15M).

Incorrect – Brashear’s cap hit is there unless he is traded/claimed via waivers. He’s over 35.

The Boogaard/Brashear thing is a big deal. You cant have 3 million dollar wrapped up in goons that will play 60 games combined and not score 10 points when you do not have a first line center. Brashear counts towards the cap and buying him out does not make them better off due to the numbers and CBA rules. Its terrible

I know you and some other people don’t believe me here, but playing with edge and hitting with malicious intent makes a difference on the ice. It is why pronger always finds a home and is acquired for high draft picks/talent. Mcilrath may or may not be a pronger down the road, but he plays a very similar game (at this point, fights a bit more) to him. All this being said, it will make a difference with people coming around hank. He is a mean D MAN, who is a lot closer to hank on the ice than deterring forwards and can exact physical “warnings” to opposing players a lot better than a back checking forwards can.

Why is the answer no. Brashear makes like $1 million for 1 stinking year.
Other teams are lining up for a backup goalie aged 36 with 4 years and $20 million left on his deal, just to help out another team.
We just committed to an enforcer for 4 years at over 6 million.
ANother team has to be willing to take Brashear for $1 million as an expiring contract – at the least. Maybe Brasher can change his name to Tim Thomas and Sather can call up other teams pretending as if the enforcer named Tim Thomas plays for the Bruins. Then they will take him off our hands.

Volchenkov is a player on the decline – did you SEE him play for Team Russia in the Olympics and in general for the Sens this season? He is not worth $4.5M a season, now now, and not for the next 6 years. At that money im glad we passed on him but there was no excuse for not signing Kurtis Foster who went to Edmonton for $3.6m over 2 yrs and we get Boogaard instead.
