Come on October! First?
France is killing me!!!
And I really hate mexico!!!
Gotta pick a game for my gift tix!!!
A game for a gift tix? Hmmmmm…
Pick a game, then, Mama!!
Sorry about France wicky. I feel horrible for them. I love the French.
The link: http://www.nhl.com/ice/schedulebyseason.htm?team=nyr
I can not wait Rangers will be in Denver in November!!
Carcillo ! Coyotes in NY again. Why can’t the Rangers come to AZ every year instead of Yotes going to NY
April 4 home to Boston. When the Rangers will clinch the Atlantic division title.
Because that would allow you to go to the game Tony. The NHL is conspiring against you seeing the NYR in Arz. ;)
ilb, the gift was TO me, not FROM me. Though I do have an extra seat…...they are awesome.
cr
thanks, it really is a shame. It was like a double whammy france lost and mexico got in!!!
mama is buying us tix to a came????
wicky
The worst part is, for an event that happens once every 4 years, they allowed a lame duck coach to go into it, and then ruin everything. I loved Zidane. Love Henry, Ribery, and most of all, Evra. Just a total waste of 4 years.
4 friggin games vs Atlanta… ONE VS NASHVILLE…. damn you Bettman you suck!
CR
yep blanc should have been there from the start. They didn’t have anyone to hold the side together like zidane always did.
Longest road trip is 3 games unless my eyes deceive me… 2/5 at Montreal, 2/7 at Detroit and 2/11 at Atlanta. Not bad at all. They’re in Florida for both Thansksgiving AND New Year’s. They host the Islanders the day AFTER my birthday.
LINDA!!!!!!!!!!
Only one Saturday on the schedule (last game at 12:30pm against the Devils). MSG is probably holding all of the Saturday nights for Lebron and the Knicks…
Avery will get to see Phaneuf 3 times early on. That should be nice.
CARPED:
Wow, a lot of players on the passed over list I would take over all of those guys (except Nieuwendyk):
Andreychuk, Gilmour, Ciccarelli, Lowe, Oates, and Cammi Granato should all get in.
Other players that aren’t in that I would consider ahead of the current crop of first-year elligibles (other than Niuewendyk):
Mogilny (not just for his play, but for his historical significance as an early Soviet defector), Pavel Bure, Vinny Damphousse, Phil Housley (if he wasn’t such a piece of garbage he would probably be in already), Dave Taylor, and Dale Hunter.
I’d actually probably go with Turgeon ahead of all of those guys too other than Mogilny, Bure, and Housley.
Great points, Doodie.
What’s this about Mama buying tickets for everybody?
Mickey, there are several three-game trips. some of those don’t involve a lot of travel, though.
Mama, don’t forget my ticket !
trade brashear to the wings for tollefsen!!!!!
Evan, you’re absolutely right and it’s disgraceful. I can’t wait until they end up with 2 overpaid 2nd tier free agents and are bottom-dwellers for the next 10 years.
sorry, random outburst!!!!

Debate!
After seeing all the special days, (Hockey Day in Canada, Hockey Day in America, Hall of Fame Game, etc), I suggest the NHL start having an “Original Six Day”. On that day, only three games are played, by the original six teams, i.e. Montreal vs Toronto / Detroit vs Chicago / NYR vs Boston.
They should all be televised as a triple header.
lifetime
That is a very good idea!!
here is one worthless player gone:
NYP_Brooksie
Post has learned that Rangers are not qualifying Enver Lisin, who will become UFA on 7/1 after one season with club.
per twitter
lisin is garbage.
let him walk.
agreed on lisin!
from twitter:
RealKyper
UFA Mathieu Darche re-signs in Mtl and hearing final touches are finishing up soon for Tomas Plekanec on a new long term deal.
mtl better resign him before slats gets any dumb ideas.
So which 3 Western Conf teams do the Rangers play the extra game against?
So all we have left for trading away Leetch is Sauer.
lifetime, that’s a great idea!
yes, you got me….mama is renting out MSG for the next bonhead fest.
DarrenDreger
Bruins have acquired Nathan Horton from Florida. Details to follow.
There goes their actual 1st round pick and probably some other stuff.
Doodie, Totally agree in re the Knicks. 30-52 here they come…
Dreger
Players are being notified, but its horton and another Panther for 1 Bruin.
it’s actually 2 Panthers for 1 Bruin per Drager
Tim Thomas?
I wonder who the Bruins is. Maybe Wheeler?
lol, it better not be Thomas and his ridiculous contract. If the Panthers just took Thomas away from them, we know the Panthers are in their back pocket.
VITALY
I don’t know aboot that. Vokoun had a pretty good year. With some solid defense, and consistent offense, they can be a pretty good team.
Thomas = Severely overrated
They’ll probably end up with Amare Stoudamire and Joe Johnson, or some even lesser combination.
Actually, now that I think of it, two Panthers for Thomas was be terrible. A decent prospect or 2nd round pick is good enough.
It has to be someone good.
It won’t be Thomas, they already have Vokoun and have stated they are happy with him and intend on keeping him.
It’s probably one of their centers, like Kreijci or Bergeron.
Boston is going to be a good team next season.
Horton + 2nd overall pick
Plus whatever they’re going to get for Tim Thomas.
Eastern Conference watch out!!
I could see Boston giving up Patrice Bergeron.
He is also somewhat injury prone, as is Nathan Horton.
They wont get much for Tim Thomas. He’s like Huet, he’ll only get a 2nd round pick or a halfway decent prospect, like I said.
But, I do agree that they will be a good team. I feel sorry for CR9.
If Horton can stay healthy, he might have some sweet chemistry with Savard. Throw in either Hall or Seguin, and that’s a pretty good.
TSNBobMcKenzie
Horton and Gregory Campbell for Dennis Wideman, 15th overall pick and another draft pick. Done.
Is Gregory Campbell any good?
Dennis Wideman?
WOW
TSNBobMcKenzie
Tom Renney named head coach, Pat Quinn steps down as coach, takes on role as sr advisor to hockey
Dennis Wideman is a pretty good defenseman. Not one of the core players though.
WOW, Boston made out like bandits.
They retain all their forwards and get Horton and Hall/Seguin in the draft.
Gregory Campbell is a complementary 3rd / 4th line player. Seems like a throw in the trade.
If that’s the case about Campbell, then I dont think they made out like bandits.
I also dont think they’ll be that good next year. Im anxious to see the Penguins and Caps better their teams, as well as us in the offseason. I wont be concerned about the Bruins until there’s cause for concern. Nathan Horton has been a bust and an injury machine. Im sure that will continue.
And their 2nd draft pick, there are no more Crosbys, so Seguin is no guarantee. He could be a bust.
Capmbell is a 4th line guy. Wideman is a solid 3-4 defenseman (he’d be first pairing on our lousy team). Good trade for both.
Boston might be overpaying a bit, but if Horton finds his game there, this could end up being pretty lopsided.
Campbell is a pretty decent borderline 3rd liner.
Boston really made out pretty good with this trade. Sorry CR.
I wonder what we would have had to give up for Horton.
DREW
the rangers 3 extra games against the west is colorado minn and st louis. not bad could have been worse
if horton is healthy this is a steal
Orr
I try to remain rational until I can no longer remain rational. Horton has been injured almost every year. I dont expect that to change now. Sort of like Gaborik.
so i guess Plekanec and Horton are off the table… wonder what Sather is doing right now.
Sather is probably trying to sign Zherdev. LOL
Slats is up to something. Big shot butt-chin Gabby demanded changes, so something must be brewing.
CR9, Hall and Seguin are both viewed as can’t miss prospects, like Stamkos and Tavares. Sure, they aren’t touted as the 2nd coming of Gretzky (Crosby), but both should be long-time top NHL players.
As for Horton being a “bust,” his numbers may be disappointing considering where he was drafted, but he would easily be the 2nd best forward on our team.
Boston is a good squad. They lack depth defensively, but the addition of Horton definitely addresses their need for a scoring winger. Solid in goal, best depth at center in the league (Savard, Bergeron, Kreijci, possibly Seguin), a true #1 defenseman, and several wings capable of netting 25 in a season (Ryder, Horton, Sturm, Wheeler, possibly Hall). If they can get a coach that can get the most out of the players, they could certainly go very far. They definitely need to bolster their defense though, especially with this trade. Just some solid depth signings.
Tom Renney, new head coach in Edmonton:
http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/story/?id=325378
Let’s see if Renney can really coach a bad team without the help of Jagr & Hank.
Doodie you’re absolutely right about Boston.
Look at the last 2 / 3 years, Boston has had one of the best defenses and goals against average in the league. Their biggest problem is scoring goals. It looks like they will have an additional 45-50 goals coming from Horton and Hall/Seguin.
The schedule is heavily weighted to home games on Sunday/Thursday with 10 and 9 respectively. To complete the rundown, we’ve got 6 on Monday, 7 on Tuesday, 4 on Wednesday, 4 on Friday, and only 1, the last of the season on a Saturday. This will be my first as a season ticket holder, so I’m excited. I certainly won’t be able to go to all of the games, so email me if you’re looking for tickets. wag279@gmail.com
Should I have begun my post with something like “long time reader, limited time poster”?
Thanks for the info, Doodie. I’ll hold out hope that whichever they draft becomes a bust anyways. IIRC, Stamkos was not good in his first year in the league.
So what you’re saying is, they got a good winger to address one of their needs, and gave up nothing in return.
And now they seek to acquire the number 4 pick in the draft, and according to their fans, for Lucic and Ryder (2 nothings).
i’m still not convinced the bruins are not going to trade savard at some point.
I have a sneaky suspicion slats may be sniffing a spezza…......where is TR when you need him???
CR9, I would take Lucic on the Rangers in a second. He would automatically add much needed toughness and some scoring to the lineup.
I don’t know why everyone thinks this is such a steal for Boston. They did give up a 1st and 2nd rounder, and now after Chara and Seidenberg, their best defenseman is Andrew Ference. They also took on even more salary, making a dump of Thomas inevitable. They will also need to find a new backup also.
It could work out in their favor, but it’s not like when San Jose plucked Thornton for Sturm, Stuart, and Wayne Primeau.
Bruins got Horton. So now Sather needs to do this:
Dubinsky, Girardi, 10th overall pick in 2010 and a prospect for Jason Spezza and negotiating rights to Anton Volchenkov.
Let’s face it we need something resembling a #1 center to start the season. Spezza is not the best but he’s far from the worst.
Vitaly, I agree. But using the Rangers as a comparison point doesnt make a case for how good a player actually is :)
Doodie, how and to who exactly are they going to dump Thomas. He is a 35 year old with a terrible contract, and he’s simply not a starter in the AHL, let alone the NHL.
Carp, in looking again, you’re right as always. I just took at quick glance and obviously missed most of them. facepalm I’m blaming it on the sleep deprivation from job hunting til very early this morning. ;)
Thanks for pointing that out.
Providence if they have to. Either way, salary needs to be dumped.
Ok, so Thomas can be dumped to the AHL? I thought Brashear couldnt because he is over 35 or something like that.
If they are so willing to dump him to the minors if need be, why in the BLEEPING bleep wont Sather dump Redden to the minors??????? Bleeeping Ridiculous.
No, you’re right. Forgot how old he was. They will find a taker eventually, even if they have to overpay to unload him.
It’s so nice to see Slats doing something constructive with his summer, getting Staal done early was great on his part.
(sarcasm, folks, don’t have a heart attack on me)
LOL Mickey! No need to point out the sarcasm. That was High-larious!
Doodie, I just dont understand why we will do nothing with Redden, and there certainly wont be any takers for him!
Salary cap going up 5% per snyrangersblog.com
Now we can really do some damage this summer, LOL.
NYP_Brooksie
BREAKING NEWS: Post has learned NHLPA votes YES on 5-percent cap escalator and YES on extending CBA through 2011-12.
Tank,
In my opinion that would be a HORRIBLE deal to make. Dubi, Girardi and the #10 pick for Spezza and his $7 mil cap hit is awful.
We’ve got enough cap issues and bad contracts to warrant taking Spezza on. We’d be a one line team the whole season(assuming Spezza and Gaborik would be on the same line).
I’d rather see Kreider, Grachev and other Hartford guys come up and get a shot before we open the vaults. AGAIN.
Because it’s hard to sell it to your boss that he needs to pay 6.5 million dollars to a guy to ride the bus in Hartford. Anybody they bring up from Hartford to replace him would only be marginally better at this point, if at all. so you are going to eat 6.5 million to only marginally improve your team? I know the argument is then you can spend about 5.5 million of it on other players. But Sather will just waste it on someone else.
CR, Thanks! This week is crap already and it’s better to laugh than cry (though I have a feeling I’ll be doing that before the week is out).
CR
Slats has too much pride to admit his mistakes. That’s why Dredden, Dreary, and Blowzy will probably all play out their contracts.
Stubborn old piece of carcillo.
“I’d rather see Kreider, Grachev and other Hartford guys come up and get a shot before we open the vaults. AGAIN”
I agree. Forget signing a single player. Let the kids play, and take the upcoming season for what it is. I’d much rather see the young guys get an actual shot than see some middle aged guy try to resurrect his career, or a guy hoping his game picks up with a “change of scenery”.
Though, I wouldn’t mind seeing Nicky Z back with the team. That’s probably the only guy I’d want Slats to sign.
did i miss something on staal?
tank
I like the deal you proposed. I just think more salary ahs to go the other way, a rozy, dubi, girardi package would be better for the cap, or sub sangs with girardi and AA with dubi. Something to that effect. I would not be upset with having spezza at all, he is one of the better first line centres out there (or richards form dallas).
I think slats has shown that he is willing to deal away his mistakes….kotalik, higgins, gomer
i can see how drury or rozi remain, but i see absolutely no reason, not even pride, to keep Redden around.
I actually think that if the Bruins didn’t have number 2 pick, that Horton deal would be a horrible one. But since they do, they decided to take a chance. It may work, may not. But it certainly didn’t improve their cap situation. And I’m not so sure it’ll be so easy to find a team that will take Thomas. Now, as Doodie mentioned, their defense just got significantly worse. So I think the jury is still out on that deal.
WICK
Not with Dredden and Dreary. If he can trade them, he’ll do it, but he wont send them to Hartford. I don’t think he has the balls to swallow his pride and pull the trigger.
TSNBobMcKenzie
Tomas Plekanec has agreed to terms with MTL on a multi-year deal worth an estimated $5 million per year.
ORR – We need a #1 center. Grachev isn’t going to be it. Kreider is 3 years away from even reporting to training camp.
Spezza may have a $7M cap hit, but let’s not kid ourselves – that’s pretty much what a #1 center costs. What do you think Plekanec and Marleau are going to get on the open market?
Do you really think Dubi is a #1 center? Or Christensen?
If the package for Spezza is reasonable I’d do it, otherwise, we’ll be waiting to sign Malkin in 2014. Remember Jokinen is coming off the books.
Apparently Plekanec re-signed with the Habs. I don’t know if it’s been mentioned.
Dublowsky definitely is not a #1 center. Maybe on this team he is, only because we have no centers.
I would be tempted to trade for Spezza, but at the same time he just seems like one of those guys who would just blow with us.
The NY curse!
I think as long as torts is coach redden is gone to htfd at the appropriate time (unless he is somehow traded before that, which i doubt). Rozy will be traded at some point unless the rangers really do want to keep him (which I also doubt). Drury is here for the long run. the organization likes him, from what you hear his teammates like him, most of the(casual) fans like him (his contract frakking sucks big time). The only way drury goes is if he requests it (probably to LA if he did), and I doubt that happens!
Plekanec signing essentially assures Marleau gets no less than $7.5M per as a UFA.
Again, our system is a dearth of true blue chip talent meaning first line forwards and top pair d men or physical dmen that can play that way at the NHL level. The only way we get that type of talent on this team from right now forward, is to trade for it, sign it as a free agent (if available), or draft it this weekend and more than likely wait the roughly 3 years for it to develop.
Hall of fame announcements are in – Dino Ciccarelli, Cammi Granato and Angela James. A guy who deserves to be in, and the first two women ever to be inducted as players.
wicky, no news on Staal. That was me just being sarcastic and making a bad joke.
Plekanc only $5 million? He must really like Montreal cause I think he’d have gotten more on the open market, imo.
That is an outstanding HOF class. Good to see Dino finally getting his props.
I’m glad plekanec is gone.
Our cap situation is not that bad and that is before the potential departure/disappearance of R and/or R, girardi, gilroy, dubi, (just thinking of players that might be gone if a trade is made…..IF) Lisin didn’t get a QO (not that he should have), but slats wants as much space as possible to do whatever it is he is planning on doing.
with the cap I am guessing that certain players will not be back at this point, olli and prospal.
While I’m happy with those chosen, how could Joe Niuewendyk not get in?
good for dino
mickey
I don’t think he is worth 5 mil, but you are right, he would have got more on the market.
Maybe Joe N gets in next year? Might be a weaker class than this year and they wanted to save someone for then?
Just speculating.
wicky, gotta tell you that every time I see your new sig all I can think about is Joe McIlvaine, former Mets GM. Which is wrong, I know, but my brain goes there every time, lol.
Still, only 3 players getting in. In recent years, it’s been 4. votes must have been too spread out over the other players.
here is an interesting link from twitter for all the trade henrik folks out there
http://www.kuklaskorner.com/index.php/glr/comments/an_interesting_draft_topic_for_the_blueshirts/
Absolutely do not draft a goaltender. Too many bust goaltenders in the 1st round.
Eklund posted that he couldn’t believe that they gave Plekanec $5M a year for 4 goals in 19 playoff games but essentially traded Halak to have the cap space do it.
Now Marleau is far and away the best center available on July 1 not counting Modano who is a dinosaur. He’s had a few 40 goal seasons. But for some reason I’m convinced that if the Rangers got Marleau, it would be Drury all over again. Marleau’s broken 40 goals ONCE in his entire career and it was this season playing on a ridiculously deep team. He’s gotten over 30 4 times, and between 20 and 30 almost every year he’s been in the league since 1997-1998. He turns 31 in September. 320G-373A-693P in 953 games played. Sound like anyone we know?
Hint: Drury is 254G-356A-610P in 868GP. Similar points per game production.
Both guys were considered “the best UFA center available” in their UFA years.
So yeah, I want no part of Marleau.
I would trade for spezza or go after lombardi (not the offencive guy of spezza or marleau caliber but all around solid at both ends)
Marleau I’d pass on as someone who I just dont see as getting it done for us.
Spezza you’d hope would be able to center the second line and help some other guys score so you can have Gaborik play with a younger center on the first line. I’d put Spezza and Gaborik together for the PP however. Spezza is going to be 27 this year and has averaged just over a point a game every season. He’s injury prone though. He may be worth dealing for.
oops i forgot to add trade for spezza or richards
sorry for the omission folks!
Lombardi and Volchenchov (or Michalek “poor-man’s Volchechov”)are looking pretty good for the Rangers right about now.
somerset
certainly not bad pick ups for sure, I’d try to add a bit more skilled grit on the forwards as well as a 2nd physical d guy for sure (well and hedberg as a back up)
Torts definitely wants to get rid of Dredden in any way possible. But, I think Slats wont allow him.
Not sure if this was mentioned before.
Tom Renney head coach of Oilers
here is your chance to get rid of Redden. How about Souray and others for Redden and others.?
New coach of Oilers:
From NHL.com
“Renney also is highly regarded in player evaluation. While with the Rangers, he was the director of player personnel for two seasons before going behind the bench. ”
Shows ya what money will do for a guy

That is high-larious. I actually found those short shorts kind of hot!
Sasha is a party animal! Good for him! Good find, Toe-knee! :P
I actually found those short shorts kind of hot!

it’d be shocking if you didn’t :P
after seeing the horton/campbell trade to boston why cant the rangers get a productive forward for for an average player and a draft pick? i would not be upset to see the 1st round pick this year go. do you really think the rangers will draft a stud at that position? prob not.
sharp?
richards?
not crazy about spezza
OV looking fat in those pictures.
NYR13
How do you know? Anything can happen with that draft pick, despite the fact that it’s Slats doing the drafting. He hasn’t had much luck with drafting, but Del Z looks like a solid 1st rounder, and Kreider looks pretty good. His track record lately is a little bit better.
And how can you want Richards over Spezza?
Lecavalier is coming!
if you think the rangers are in bad shape just look at toronto.
5 forwards signed for 2010-11 kessel, graboski, orr, sjostrom and some guy named luca caputi
7 dmen
2 goalies
and only 15.7 in cap space. things could be worse
orr,
spezza is a good player, but his contract is horrible compared to richards
spezza 7 million hit for 5 more years
richards is 7.8 for one year
no to vinny! great player, bad contract. we have enough bad players with bad contracts
nyr13 – I agree ! Last thing we need is ANOTHER bad contract !
tony, the rangers are always a minute away from another bad contract as long as sather has control.
i really think richards will be a good move though. good assist man. 91 pts and 67 assists last year. only 30. one year left on a contract. better than what the rangers have right now!
he is also a better option than signing someone in a weak free agent year.
Niedermayer retired today. In a day when we were talking about HOFers, Niedermayer is a first ballot lock.
i forgot…richards won the conn smythe and has a pt per game career playoff record
Sundin is coming!
cccp, stop you are going to scare the children
Can’t take credit for that Ovie post. I found it on Linda’s FB
I hope CR is the master of his domain !
I don’t see the point in wasting prospects or picks for Richards for only a year, when we need a permanent 1st line center, which Spezza would be.
I don’t want anyone. I want a 1st overall pick!
Don’t worry about a thing. I just got a e mail from a prince in a middle east country who wants to give me 250 million dollars. All I have to do is give him my bank account # & he’ll deposit it in my account.
I’ll use the money to buy out Redden, Rosy & Drury.
See, all our problems are solved.
Plus, the first round at W77 is on me !
orr, i am sorry but you are not getting the first overall pick. simple as that. even if the rangers have the worst record in the nhl bettman will rig the lottery so the penguins will win it anyway. dolan will never let the team get that bad anyway…look what he did with the knicks they were just good enough to be in the middle of the lottery every year
also, spezza is not a legit #1 center. he played most of his time with alfedssonat center on the wing. he is more like a bill guerin type than a set up man and two way center
plus, the point of richards and his one year contract is you can resign him if he is as good as advertised or just walk away. with one year on his contract he could be had for a avg player and a 2nd round pick…look at most trades last year. most expiring contracts were traded for 2nd round picks
The jury is out on Brad Richards. He’s been up and down his whole career. Almost Kovalev-esque. I would almost say wait and see how he does this season, he will be a UFA in 2011, and then can be signed for perhaps a more reasonable term deal if Torts is still the coach and wants him back bad enough at that point. He’s not the best skater nor is he the most resilient of players.
Spezza is younger and is probably going to end up over time being worth whatever it is that we give up for him.
I doubt Buttman would rig the draft if NYR were drafting first overall. But, unfortunately I do agree aboot NYR not getting the first. I think next season they’ll draft 10th, 11th. Hank wont let them get that bad.
Trade Hank to get the first overall pick!
::SARCASM::!
the wait and see approach isnt good right now gaborik and henrik are in their prime. cally and dubi are suppose to be hitting their stride and staal is a leader. mdz is a stud in the making. why wait?
i wouldnt say richards is kovlev esque…he had injuries in 2008-09 and rebounded last year with a great season on a bad team..spezza is coming off a avg season on a good team
carer numbers favor spezza slightly. i still think he is a better winger than center.
spezza

richards

Tony, for a mil I’ll carry your camera bags, even if it means moving to the desert…
dang employment! all this hockey talk today and I missed it all.
don’t think I want to see OV in short shorts. my eyes are failing me enough as it is….
Good to read hockey talk again. Is it Oct yet ?
Mama, it’s only 107 today – brrrrr
Don’t catch a cold, Tony!
Both Richards and Spezza are legit first line centers. I’d prefer Spezza. There is no guarantee that any of our prospects ( including Kreider) will turn out to be first liners. Marleau should be considered behind those two, if at all.
18 sets of back-to-back games. Entirely too many.
The West repeats aren’t bad, though – Colorado, Minnesota, St. Louis.
Tony, i have a scarf and some mittens i could send you!!
new (late) post.
In an uncharacteristic revelation, normally tight lipped Rangers Scoutleader Gordie Clark has unwittingly spilled the Rangers plans for the future. This is verbatim from the pull quote (ie the most important thing they want us to know) from goaltending prospect Cam Talbot’s “20 Prospects in 20 Days” page (caps added for emphasis):
“He has the size and the athleticism we like, AND HE WAS ABLE TO KEEP A VERY WEAK TEAM COMPETITIVE.”
See, they didn’t miss the playoffs for lack of talent. It’s been the plan the whole time. Ah carcillo, and I got so frustrated for nothing.
