The week ahead

Live from New/Other Yankee Stadium (ugh), it’s Rangers Report. Woohoo.

Just looking ahead:

Tuesday afternoon, the Hockey Hall of Fame announces its Class of ’10. Among the first-year eligible candidates are: Eric Lindros, John LeClair, Peter Bondra (slam dunk, right?), Tony Amonte, Matthew Barnaby (what???), Joe Nieuwendyk, Scott Mellanby, Fredrik Olausson, Mike Ricci, Pierre Turgeon and three goalies who, no disrespect meant, shouldn’t get a sniff: Sean Burke, Tommy Salo and Arturs Irbe.

Lindros is by far the most intriguing candidate, isn’t he?

Wednesday night is the NHL awards show, and that’s all I’m going to say about it. Not promoting anything that involves a sellout to Las Vegas and features Snoop Dogg. Sorry.

Friday and Saturday are the NHL entry draft, and as we mentioned in an earlier post, the Rangers will host a first-round party Friday night.

About Author

  1. wicky (draft Dylan McIlrath in the first round!!) on

I’m going to work….so someone save me a seat!

  2. And the Clark Gillies argument.

ps, I meant “The New Yankee Stadium” since Yankee Stadium doesn’t exist.

right back at ya, ‘Dogg, yo. Truth. Fa shizzle.

    Good afternoon, Sally!

  3. Tank The Season on

Cam Neely though had a great reputation on and off the ice and did a lot of charity work when he couldn’t play which helped him get in the HoF.

Lindros was supposedly well liked by players but he had issues we all know about. I am one of the few who will say that when he was a Ranger he genuinely put in his time, if Fleury didn’t go into rehab and Bure didn’t have his knee crap out who knows what could have happened. Lindros did something with the Rangers that he never did with anyone else: play all 82 games of a regular season.

  4. Agreed on Lindros. I still stand by that if he was healthy, he would have easily been among the best that ever played the game. He was a monster, with speed, toughness, and such great hands. People hate him, and that is fine, but personally, I have zero problem with him. I hope he does get in.

  5. Johnny LaRue on

Do the bathroom stall doors go all the way to the floor in the “New Yankee Stadium”?

  6. I haven’t been to the new stadium yet, but I hope they do. When you are in a fully enclosed stall, it is just a nice nice experience, LOL.

  7. I think Lindros would have been the greatest power forward ever if not for his concussions. He was an MVP, got to one Cup final. Never reached his potential, though.

Tony, I think any player who reaches certain milestones in games played, etc., is automatically nominated when his year comes up.

Are you going to catch the Yankees when they come out there this week?

  8. flyers acquire rights to dan hamhuis for ryan parent. flyers have 12 days to work a deal before hes a ufa.

they had interest in hamhuis at deadline

will prob get 3.5 to 4 mil.

  9. Johnny LaRue on

Drop the subject? Now see, I don’t care for that. It should resolve itself of it’s own volition.

  10. anson carter on

carp is a byfuglien racist piece of carcillo. whats wrong with snoop dogg? not old and white enough for you? sorry barry manilow was booked. whats wrong with the nhl trying to expand to new audiences? im texting mike grier about this

  11. Lindros skated with his head down. They weren’t unfortunate injuries, they were inevitable.

  12. Ahhh, Anson Carter. I havent thought about him in years! He’s what got us Jaromir!

  13. anson carter on

anyone remember jaromirs “im dying alive playing in washington”quote.then the caps paid half his salary

  14. “How come nobody talks about Gaborik? He got injured AGAIN and during most important time of the season he was completely invisible…which probably cost us play-off spot. Why would this upcoming season be any different? I say, trade Gaborik instead of Dubi”

I always talk aboot Gabby. I don’t like the guy. After the carp he pulled during the Olympics, I’m pretty much done with the guy. Fugg Gabby! He’s another guy that’s only in it for the money.

And I wouldn’t give the “C” to a newcomer. I’d rather give it to a home-grown player, but nobody deserves it, especially not Dublowsky. Put it on the side until someone does.

  15. dubi as c? greg that might be your weakest point ever. the guy is selfish holdout and comes to play 1 out of 3 games and you want him as c. i thought you were a ranger fan.

  16. Orr

Here’s my take. Nobody but Henrik deserves the captaincy. If you dont give it to Henrik, then you give it to nobody. Callahan has the work ethic of a captain, but not the talent. So Henrik or nobody.

Also, could you do me a favor and stop insulting our guys calling them Dublowsky and such. I dont consider Redden a guy, maybe Rozi I do. But Dubinsky is a part of our future if he is not traded, and he has the potential to be very good.

  17. I have nothing against Lindros. That said, I say he shouldn’t get in. He would’ve been this, he could’ve done that, he had the potential to… That’s all well and good. The thing is, he DIDN’T.

  18. Dublowsky isn’t part of the Rangers future, unless Slats will overpay for him after next season. The kid is full of himself.

It’s all aboot the money. And guess what, with guys like him, Dreary, Gabby, Dredden, Blowzy, and even Avery for that matter…things will never change. These guys are not setting a good example for the younger guys.

Doesn’t matter how bad you play, or how inconsistent you are, you’re only in it for the money.

And I agree aboot Hank being the only player deserving of the “C”.

  19. Nice to see you celtics! How are you today! Great couple days for me! Ive been resting off the mental and physical exhaustion of the last 2 months.

But to clarify your mistaken comment, I am a New York fan first, Anti-Bostoner second.

  20. Orr

That’s just not true. Drury may not have the talent of a captain – and only succeeded with loads of talent around him – but he certainly gives all his effort.

I cant speak either way about Drury and the rest only caring about the money – and neither can you – but I urge you not to believe everything you read in the papers or hear in the media. Media members are by definition, biased. Until you know the person – i.e. Drury – you cant make an accurate assessment of what they care about more.

  21. cr

ok do you take this deal?

rangers win cup but that also means red sox and pats win their titles.

in my opinion if the bost teams won your therapist would get quite a few midnight calls

  22. No I dont take that deal. I take the deal that the Rangers win the Cup and no Boston team wins anything for the rest of my and their existence.

  23. celtics

you have it wrong. I wouldnt take that deal because a Boston fan would not have to take that deal. They got 5 championships in this millenium before NY got one. The fans of Boston did not have to take that deal.

And why would I take 1 NY championship for 2 Boston championships. I know Im crazy, but Im not that crazy.

If you said Rangers Cup and Knicks NBA title for Red Sox title, I might take it. But i still see no reason to let them have a title.

  24. ok 1 on 1

red sox win and rangers win

don’t even bother writing back i know your answer. i see right through you

  25. CR

That’s a bit selfish. You’d put your Boston hatred ahead of not just your love, but all of our love for NYR. If you were our only hope to win a Cup, you would really turn your back on us??!!

As for Dreary. He does good things, and I only dislike him because of his contract. I do appreciate the things he does, but with the amount of money he’s making, he has to do more.

He had a good thing going in Buffalo. He was playing the best hockey of his career, and he decided to take the money and go elsewhere. That being said, it sets a bad example for the younger guys to see Dreary, Blowzy, and Dredden half-assing it all year long, yet they still get enough ice time, which is on Slats, and Torts just as much as them.

I don’t blame Dublowsky for being the way he is. That’s what happens when your role models are losers!

Get rid of all of them! They’re all viruses spreading throughout the organization infecting everyone!

  26. And as for my anti-boston philosophy,

Pats – I cant afford them to pass the Giants in titles, or catch up with the Steelers for most titles. Also, would like Peyton or Eli to catch up to Brady.

Bruins – would love them to have a 54 or 86 year curse. Would be fitting.

Celtics – only up 1 on the Lakers for most championships. Cant wait for the Lakers to tie them and take the lead. Only way I dont want the Lakers winning is if the Knicks are their opponent.

Red Sox – Least angersome team to win if they won. They have a measly 7 titles. and if they win, people can always say, so what, 2 or 3 titles in 90+ years.

So to answer your question. I might take Red Sox for Rangers. But Id be more receptive to Red Sox for Knicks.

  27. Orr

LOL @ selfish! Not only would I give my life for NY championships and a lack of Boston championships in a heartbeat, I have given my life. I will be extraordinarily lucky to make it to 35 years old – especially with the heart disease in my family.

  28. bull dog line on

The Devils are in complete panic mode with this move. farm system is not what it used to be, and they are grasping at straws.

  29. wicky (draft Dylan McIlrath in the first round!!) on

I think a home grown captain is great, problem is we do not have anyone deserving of being captain that is home grown on this roster. We don’t normally have a home grown captain (last one was leetch I think). The last deserving captain we had was messier. We suck at naming captains. With free agency, having a home grown captain is pretty rare I think.

Wow, slats better get off his arse and do what the flyers did and trade for the hammer prior to 01 JULY. The music is going to stop and we are not going to have a seat.

  30. wicky

You dont think that Henrik is a deserving homegrown captain. He’s given everything for this team every single year. Obviously, he will not get it, because Drury will not have it removed – as it would be a slap in the face. Anyways, the captaincy really does not matter. In essence, it’s just a status, nothing more. Id rather have 19 guys playing each Rangers game show their leadership on the ice, not with a C on the sweater.

  31. bull dog line on

the Rangers can’t trade Hank. who would lead us to the playoffs, or for that matter, be the best goalie that is not in the playoffs.
you may be funny at times, but boy, you still have no clue what you are talking about.

  32. Once you get past the Redden and Drury contracts. Sather has shown pretty good restraint in his salary decisions.

Everyone else on the roster is getting paid the appropriate amount (Rozy is slightly overpaid). And when you think about it, almost every team has 1-2 overpaid salaries you cant get rid of.

A trade or demotion Redden is the ONLY holding this team back.

You replace Redden’s 6.5 million salary with a Kovalchuk or a Alex Semin and we are a solid team

  33. This Arnott move means Kovalchuk WILL BE a Ranger.

I can see Sather moving Dubinsky at the draft to help clear some space

  34. Oh yeah, Forgot about that. ha ha

Even if we miss out on Kovalchuk. I think we are going after another 2nd line scorer. Frolov, Plekanec, or Lombardi maybe??

We gotta brace ourselves with some secondary scoring for the inevitable Gaborik Injury

  35. and everybody makes such a big deal about Ray Whitney. Prospal had just as many points in 5 less games and cost about 2-3 million less.

    RE-SIGN VINNY !!!!!!!!

  36. Tank The Season on

I think the Rangers have to find out what it will take to get Iginla from Calgary and do it.

To think we could have gotten Arnott…. I don’t care how old he is – he’s one of the few Devs i’d take any day. Too bad the Devs got him back.

  37. I think the Devils are being ridiculous by making these “grab players from the past” moves.

They are trading away too many prospects to stack their team full of old players on an already pretty old team …..

which is good for us !!!

Hockey’s future has them ranked 26th in prospect depth and they just traded another prospect and their 2nd round pick in 2011, plus they have no picks in this years first round and 5th round….

    They will suck soon guaranteed

  38. Slats always signs UFA’s after big playoff runs (ex.Drury, Gomez) which is where I see Plekanec coming into play.

Honestly though, I dont think we need a #1 center. Gabby played fine with EC and Vinny. Plus there is AA and there is no moving Drury’s contract

Another Big-time scorer on the wing to play in Gabby’s place if he gets injured is what we need. I’d even take Zherdev back for less then 2 million.

Patrick Sharp could also be on Slats radar since he can play C or Wing

  39. I think we should have a contest on the 1st round Entry draft predictions … most right could win something

  40. ZzZz NYR ZzZzllo " Bring on the season already!!! " … says Greg L. on

Dubinsky is our most complete forward besides Callahan. Dubinsky’s UP SIDE and potencial is HUGE. Over rated? Nawww cuz he aint won anything yet. Peeps want to trade him!!?? Now look whos acting like the OLD Rangers!!!?? Trade our youth? Over rated? Wicky , Dubi is over rated to whom? He is our only true young power type forward. My eggs are in the Dubi basket cuz hes OURs and Im backing him. Id make him Captain in a heart beat.

  41. Good evening all! Quick pop in:

Carp, when you say thinge like “Dogg, yo. Truth. Fa shizzle,” it kinda scares me :)

forget all your “debates” today. Here’s what I got given to mama!: game TBD, but section 35, row AA, two seats. On. The. Glass.

Look it up. The view is quite delicious. Now, what game do I choose and who gets my other seat….must be serious Rangers fan. Hmmmmm

Now I really want season to start!

  42. GREG

Dublowsky is overrated when it comes to the Rangers fans. Everyone makes him out to be this huge untouchable star, but he’s nothing more than an overrated greedy piece of carcillo.

You’ll be singing a different tune when he’s gone. He wont be a Ranger! And I don’t want him to be.

  43. Cut Redden, fire Sather, hire Shoney, pass on Mess, get a banger on D, Get a first line scorer. Summer time musings.

  44. There is nothing wrong with trading our youth for All Stars in their prime.

This shouldnt be confused with the old Ranger tactics of trading youth for “past-their-prime” All Stars

We happen to have a lot of good young prospects. We dont need every single one of them.

I’d rather have AA, EC, and bank on Stepan, Grachev, Werek and Horak in a year or two then Dubinsky if it lands us another “currently-in-their-prime” All Star

  45. Too tired for ya’ll tonight. I have great tix and an awesome pic of a stick salute that brought tears to my eyes. Off to find place to hang it up :)

P.S. Sally, where are ya for Dubi!

  46. that greedy little **** should never wear any letter on this team never mind the C. God i hope they trade him for a guy who comes to play every game

  47. ZzZz NYR ZzZzllo " Bring on the season already!!! " … says Greg L. on

Greedy is all fictional. It is not a fact that he is greedy. Tr overheard stuff on a lunch date. Thats all. Dubinsky has gotton better or worse in the last few years? He will be stronger this year. If we trade him then Sather is just doing what all the other Ranger GMs have done for the last decade.

  48. not if he trades him as part of deal to move up in draft. or for a vet younger than 27. i hope we do it will lead to better things in rangerland.

  49. Flyers will have to trade Carter to fit Hamuhuis and a decent goalie in their lineup.

They are more cap screwed than we are, esp when it comes to no trade clauses

  50. What TR may or may not have heard had nothing to do with his greed. It had more to do with the fact that he’s a world class bouchebag, and cheap. That’s all speculation. You either believe it, or you don’t.

His greed is fuggin fact. He had a pretty average year, for the most part. He only had aboot 12-13 goals, 40 points, and did pretty much nothing in the playoffs besides score one goal. Then he has the balls to hold out, and demand more money. He only signed a two year deal so he can use Gabby to boost his game, then cash in somewhere else.

The funny thing is, he expected to play with Gabby all along. You believe this loser? That says enough aboot his personality. Ugh, I can’t stand that kid.

Maybe it’s his girlfriends fault. I’m sure Sally can agree with me on that!

  51. ORR, I will regret this but….as part of of my job, I get a lot of stuff sent to me that has nothing to do with my job. Case in point, this magazine…the June issue featured your girl. Google Allure magazine, Megan Fox, June…..don’t say I never did anything for ya….

  52. leethhalloffame on

Buttman probably gives Flyers a special pass on getting below the salary cap.

  53. Carter will be traded on or before the draft since the Flyers will have 3 straight years without a 1st round pick next week if they dont.

  54. MAMA

This is me you’re talking to. If a new hot Fox pic hits the net, then I see it A.S.A.P

Although, I’m worried aboot her status as number 1, because apparently she just got engaged for the second time, and this time she said yes. But, apparently she lost the ring seconds after, which could be a bad omen for their relationship, I’m hoping.

Alba was my previous number 1, until she got knocked up, and married on the same fuggin week. Ugh!

  55. wicky (draft Dylan McIlrath in the first round!!) on

Thanks for saving me a seat, where to start…..

I just don’t like goalies as captains. I think hank is an excellent home grown talent for sure, If he was a skater with his attitude and commitment, then yes I wouldn’t mind him getting the C.

I don’t think the C should be taken lightly and I do think it matters who wears it.

brother, I think he is overrated by alot of ranger fans. He is a good player. No, I don’t want to trade him for jason arnott, but I would ship him to LA in a minute for jack johnson or to the sens for spezza. I hear all this stuff about him being a “power forward”, but he just seems like a finesse player to me in a power forward body. Chris drury had 1 fight last year, gabby had 1 fight last year, big tough power forward dubi……had 2….2????? I would understand if he had 2 fights as a power forward per season at the end of his career like a tkachuk or shanny, but early in his career? at his age?? All I know is what I see, he played an edgy game, made great body checks, and had 13 fights in his first two seasons and then held out for cash (when he should have played out his contract) and somehow forgot the edgy part of his game after getting his money. Sounds to me like the last kind of player you want as your captain. Also sounds like the type of player most people here gripe about that get overpaid by this organization then seem to “lose” a certain amount of “effort” in their game.

I’m not saying give the guy away, but I wouldn’t hesitate to move him to fill a team need nor do I think he has come anywhere close to earning a letter. Being home grown should not entitle you to anything, it should at a minimum make you try harder than others and stand up more for the sweater you wear, not less after you held out for a bigger contract!

Avery stands up more for that sweater on any given night than dubi ever thought about!

  56. wicky (draft Dylan McIlrath in the first round!!) on

slatipuss needs to get that volckenkov trade done before 01 JULY.

There are some interesting forwards to trade for out there I think (doubt if we would ever deal with the flyers for carter), but spezza, richards in dallas, semin to name a few. I would still like to sign lombardi.

  57. Richards is the kind of guy we need to avoid. He had a good year, but middle aged players coming to NY is a curse. Too many times we’ve been fooled!

No to anybody over the age of 29!

And to Dublowsky’s credit, he did break his hand on a Chara slap shot, so I can understand why he wouldn’t fight. But, the kid talks tough and doesn’t back it up.

He’s not a power forward by any stretch of the imagination, in my opinion.

As for Avery. I love his commitment to the team, and his willingness to stick up for his teammates, but I still can’t forget what he did to NYR. He played some of his best hockey with NYR, and the first chance he got, he went straight for the money, and didn’t look back. He went on and on aboot how he “bleeds blue” but it didn’t take him long to go straight for the green. Then look what happened. He embarrassed himself, and played terrible, and who was there to pick him up, and take him back in like a teenage runaway? NYR!

Dublowsky will pull the same brash*t, guaranteed! And if Aves thinks he’s gonna be making anywhere near the amount he’s making now, then he has another thing coming. He’s another overpaid guy, but lucky for us, he’s only half price.

  58. Wicky

I like your views. I didnt mean to undermine your view on the C. I dont think just anyone should wear the C. But in the absence of a defined leader, I would rather have nobody wear the C, and have all 19 players lead by example than lead with the C on their sweater.

  59. wicky (draft Dylan McIlrath in the first round!!) on

I see what you are saying, but I still think a team needs a captain. That being said if no one is capable of leading, then maybe they shouldn’t have one!!

  60. wicky (draft Dylan McIlrath in the first round!!) on

Happy Fathers Day to all the dad’s out there!!!

    Good night john boy!!!

  61. If Drury was to waive his no-trade clause, the following teams could fit him in with cap space:
Dallas- likely only for a straight up trade for Brad Richards (7.8 million-but only one year)
ST. Louis- eric brewer at 4 mil for one year maybe?
LA- Ryan Smyth 5.4 million, 2 years?
Islanders- I’d take Radek Martinek and his cap hit of 1.5 million for dru
Toronto- Tomas Kaberle ( 1 year at 4 million)
i’d take any of those deals in a heartbeat.
    what you guys think?

  62. not happening on

they are not going down that path miked

at least not this year. focus on what they might do like putting redden in hartford

  63. Olga Folkyerself on

I think Dubi is one of the few players that is actually worth the money they pay him. 1.7 million for 20 goals and 44 points. and he’s still improving every year. He’s tied for second in goals for the Rangers, What more do you want?

Greedy? I don’t think so. Yes he held out for awhile, but after looking at Drury, Redden, Gaborik and Rozival’s salaries, how much should he have asked for from Sather? Wait til you see what Staal and Girardi ask for…

Just because one guy has a burr under his saddle for him, don’t think that he isn’t worth what they are paying… If you look at dollars per goal, he’s the best Ranger on the team.

  64. The “thundersticks” during the playoffs a couple of years ago were a big enough embarrassment-No Vuvuzelas at MSG!!!!

  65. Happy Fathers Day to all the Fathers out there!

I agree with Olga. At this point, Dubi is really pretty good. And personally, I also see the potential for improvement from Dubi. The more work the guy puts in and the more work he gets in Torta’s system, he could really be very good.

  66. Happy Father’s Day to all the other dads out there.

I agree, I don’t hate Dubi. There is something about his personality that rubs me the wrong way a little. What I mean is that he is a little too cocky already. He doesn’t put up good enough numbers to be as cocky as he seems to be. I don’t mind confidence, but cockiness is another story. Either way, I like him on this team and I expect him to get better as the years go on.

  67. Happy Father’s Day, boneheads!

Let’s not trade away our young guns, please. This team has gone that path and we all know what transpired after. Be patient, let them grow. I can’t really blame anyone for trying to make as much as they can. No one really knows how many years they can play, how many injuries they will sustain and how fast. The life after hockey doesn’t always turn out to be easy..

According to Larry, the Rangers were trying to get Arnott, but Predators wanted McDonugh. The Rangers walked away. Sounds good to me:

  68. Enough of Dublowsky. I’m trying to enjoy myself. You’ll all see it my way when he goes after the big contract with some other team.

And of course Slats tried going after Arnott. This stupid caveman never learns. Always go after the guys who are inches away from retiring. At least he didn’t give up any young guys for him.

  69. wicky (draft Dylan McIlrath in the first round!!) on

well, I never said I just wanted to dump the guy for nothing or that he was totally a waste.

As far as the brooks article goes, I like the first part of the article for an obvious reason (I still think there is something still going on with them due to that lopsided trade with them earlier). Especially if that guy would actually help the team.

Was it me or did brooks finish off the article in a very krameresque manner?

Once again, hope all the dad’s have a great day today.

  70. wicky (draft Dylan McIlrath in the first round!!) on

thought you guys might get a kick out of this from spector’s rumour blog:

EDMONTON JOURNAL: Jim Matheson reports Bruins GM Peter Chiarelli keeps insisting he won’t trade the second overall pick but wondered if offering up Ales Hemsky and either Jordan Eberle or Magnus Paajavi-Svensson might get his attention…Matheson believes a possible trade scenario being pitched for any team interested in Kris Versteeg is a second round pick in return but the interested team also has to take defenseman Brent Sopel…Don’t expect Georges Laraque to return to the Edmonton Oilers. Matheson suggests the NY Rangers might be the best bet as they’re ridding themselves of Donald Brashear or perhaps the Calgary Flames…One trade option for the Wild seeking a scoring center could be Dallas’s Mike Ribeiro…He also suggests the Buffalo Sabres might be a good fit for Sheldon Souray…

    I found it quite hilarious!!!!!

  71. Tank The Season on

The smartest thing Sather can do this offseason is sign Paul Kariya relatively cheap. That’s a leader right there.

  72. Here’s a greater laugh for all of you who enjoy futbol.

S-bag Alexei Lalas said “maybe the England players just arent that good”. To which Steve Mcmanaman said “That’s what I said. They are not a good team”. To which S-bag Alexei said “No. Im not saying that they are not a good team. Im saying maybe their players just arent good.”

Coming from a loser like Alexei Lalas. Insulting some of the greatest talent in the world like Lampard, Gerrard, and Rooney. Having listened to only some of the World Cup live coverage on ESPN, Im glad I havent listened to much more, because Alexei sounds like the biggest fool each time he opens his mouth.

  73. wicky (draft Dylan McIlrath in the first round!!) on

yes, lalas isn’t a very unbiased announcer, that is for sure.

  74. >>…Alexei sounds like the biggest fool each time he opens his mouth.

Hahahah! I’ll tell you one thing: we, footballers, do not take that fool seriously; he’s the Chico Resch of our game. All he’s been doing lately is whine about the disallowed US goal.

  75. Good after and Happy Father’s Day all!

ORR, LMAO, I should have know better.
wicky, awesome dude! thanks. The first one was tremdendously tremendous (love the locker room bit behind Dru!) Don’t who this LoFFen is, but I love him :)

  76. Leethhalloffame on

Happy Father’s Day Carp. Thanks for giving us this forum to talk about our beloved Rangers. Oh, and no Happy Father’s Day to you Slats.

  77. Tank The Season on

Kariya I’d take on a 2 yr, $5.5M deal. Otherwise forget it.

There is nobody available who will help our team who is a UFA.

I’d trade youth for Iginla or MAYBE Thornton.

  78. Last thought: wicky, I think Brooks is trying to steal Seinfeld fans from here. Ha! Like that would ever happen. YoYo Ma! (P.S. Hope you had a great day with the wicksters)

  79. Happy Father’s Day!

What happened to your French team? This is so embracing and sad… i really like that team. Anelka’s first and i bet last showing for this team ended pretty freaking ugly.

  80. ok, first official wicky/laurel:

Rod Stewart “tribute” band concert is about to start in park right outside my window. Nothing against Rod, at all! But oh my byfuglien harnelling lord…..this is gonna be a long hour.

  83. ZzZz NYR ZzZzllo " Bring on the season already!!! " … says Greg L. on

Yo Mike ,welcome back !!! I wassss gonna include you in my Fathers day thing cuz I remeber when ya beat up that guy fer her. Awsome. I didnt think ya were back yet . Ya missed alot of stuff so you better grab a coffee and read all the days you missed. Ya may wanna see if yer a bonefied Offcial upper class too!! Theres a list how to make it.

  84. “Not promoting anything that involves a sellout to Las Vegas and features Snoop Dogg. Sorry.”

    hmm…racism in it’s truest form.

Sold out? They’re attempting to make it relevant…unlike how it’s been for all these years. Just because you don’t enjoy Snoop Dogg doesn’t mean you have to blatantly hate on him. He’s a funny dude that’s probably just looking to support NHL and have a good time. Im sure the players will enjoy it. Stop being so negative, sir

  85. ZzZz NYR ZzZzllo " Bring on the season already!!! " … says Greg L. on

I aint quite “upper class” yet but one day…Im just glad to be riding the Ranger train this year comming up cuz it is gonna be EXCITING to watch. Our team’s drama is enough to keep anyone interested .

ORR & Wicky , Dubinsky is cocky . Who says he cant back it up this year? If Dubinsky sucks this year then Yeah , Id have to say he does suck. Give him a chance ,one more chance . The guy is homegrown ( sure no favors) but you have to favor yer homegrown. Its how you make $$$ . You have to “promote” yer own to make cash.Plain and simple. Wicky ,If Dubi is over rated..shhhhhh dont tell anyone. We are trying to rise his stock back up so if we peddle him..we wont get peanutz uh?

  86. ZzZz NYR ZzZzllo " Bring on the season already!!! " … says Greg L. on

Dubinsky is the next Messier ( wink ,wink)

  87. wicky (draft Dylan McIlrath in the first round!!) on

don’t remind me. They are quite the embarrassment. That is just futbol karma between the hand ball and having a lame duck coach at the WC. Saddest part of all is they could still qualify for the knock out round (with help), but they are in such disarray.

    Grabby and ZZZZZZ,
    happy dad’s day fellas.

    you still on FB?

  88. wicky (draft Dylan McIlrath in the first round!!) on

If we do not get a top flight centre (spezza or richards) I would rather get lombardi than plekanec. I think if we sign him to a 5 mil plus contract per season would be a worse signing than drury.

  89. wicky (draft Dylan McIlrath in the first round!!) on

thanks and of course, I’m working!

    boutros boutros gali!!!!

  90. “Dubinsky is the next Messier”

Dublowsky isn’t even as tough as one of Messier’s single tear drop.

Can’t wait till he’s gone. Hopefully it’s through a trade, and not him walking off for the big contract.

  91. wicky (draft Dylan McIlrath in the first round!!) on

i like eminem a lot better than snoop, but snoop better than 2 pac.

  92. ZzZz NYR ZzZzllo " Bring on the season already!!! " … says Greg L. on

That’s true LW3H . It doesn’t matter if he was black or white . Some peeps don’t respect a dope smokin ,criminal looking playah . Truth be told .Carp’s opinion is his take and is no way racial. Get yer facts straight.

I one time refused giving an indian a handout and he called me racists. I said I dont care what color a bum is…I can’t be giving out my money!!!

  93. ZzZz NYR ZzZzllo " Bring on the season already!!! " … says Greg L. on

ORR ,read my comment again…(I winked)

  94. ZzZz NYR ZzZzllo " Bring on the season already!!! " … says Greg L. on

    Dubi is a Celebrity?

  95. ZzZz NYR ZzZzllo " Bring on the season already!!! " … says Greg L. on

Dubinsky always seems to find open ice. He holds onto the puck rather well. He has a frame that isnt easy to knock of the puck . He is creative and shows passion. He will fight . He is a sophmore that has yet to reach his potencial. Giving up on Dubinsky is crazy. What more do ya want from the guy? Dubinsky is a Ranger and if he was on Chicago then I bet everyone on here would want him. He would fit in well with Chicago with his age and puck control.

  96. soph? finished his 3rd season. pouts when he did not play with jagr or gaborik. hold out after 2nd season

    future captain? LMAO

  97. ill be laughing at all of you Dubi haters when Drury leaves and Dubi signs extension with Rangers and get the “C” in the process

  98. don’t bet the mortgage on that happening and if it did you can pretty much guarantee no cup or even a decent playoff run. putting the C on a 2nd year holdout sends a bad message very bad message

  99. Dublowsky will never be the Captain. I get this strange vibe like he acts like a know it all in the locker room, and is always telling people what they should do on the ice. Maybe I’m just blinded by hatred. Who knows. I’m sure Staal or Cally would get the “C” before him.

By the time Dreary leaves, Dublowsky will be in the second year of his brand new contract doing nothing special for the team he is with. Probably complaining to his girlfriend that he’s not playing with the star player. Loser!

Huge Jessiwoman is the next Captain of NYR!

  100. ZzZz NYR ZzZzllo " Bring on the season already!!! " … says Greg L. on

Nose picker , I think giving the “C” to a 7.5 million dollar shot blocker that plays on the 3rd line is way worse.

Giving dubinsky the “C” will SOLIDIFY that Rangers are for real and youth is now in charge. Dubi is our youth ORR , look at it this way ORR . Your agent said to ask for more cash cuz yer homegrown talent…You ORR being a Ranger and staying for the love of…what? If You were Dubi ,you would have listen to yer agent too and what…Im gonna hate on you? If you make a bad desision ,I wont prosacute you like you are to Dubi. Give Dubi some slack here cuz he will be better this year. FER SHIRLEY!!!

  101. ZzZz NYR ZzZzllo " Bring on the season already!!! " … says Greg L. on

  102. Dublowsky held out, demanded more money, and look how he started out the season. The guy was barely visible.

Giving Dublowsky the “C” is a mistake. It sends a bad message to the other kids. It’s time to break the cycle. Give the “C” to the guy who busts his ass each night as if it’s his last game. Nose picker sure as hell will never be that guy.

Like I’ve said, I don’t blame the little brat for asking for more money. He does play better than the overpaid losers on the team, but he doesn’t play well enough to earn the right to boss management around, and act like he’s too good for NYR, and miss training camp, and most of pre-season just because he wants a little more cash.

Ugh, is that what we want Del Z, Gilroy, Anisimov, and every other kid in this organization to do after they have an average year? Pathetic!

As I’ve said at least 25 times, and I can’t stress this enough!, he only signed for two short years so he can play with Butt-chin Gaborik, and mooch off him, like he did with Jagr. He wants big money, and he’s using Butt-Chin Slovakia-man to get what he wants, and once this quick contract is up, he’s out the door! The the “Doo’s will turn into “you comb over piece of carcillo”

Probably “boooos” but I’ll be the one being a bit more viscous.

Anyway, with that being said, I just want to add this…Katy Perry is climbing up my hot list. She’s a babe. Her music is terrible, like most girly pop music, or what ever it is she sings.

  103. ZzZz NYR ZzZzllo " Bring on the season already!!! " … says Greg L. on

I understand ORR but really now .Why do we have to set examples out of players like Dubinsky and Sean Avery? Our team suffers . If Dubi holds out and get the Captaincy , yer saying it leads a bad example to our other players. Yeah could be true if this were the 80’s and we had ZERO salary cap. The fact is Other players know what our cap is and to demand more loot from Sather is suicide. Players dancing for more cash to Sather will get the door and Dubi almost got his walking papers. To go against Dubi for his mistake is silly cuz in all reality , we need Dubi this year but I would take Jason Spezza over him in a heartbeat. Cuz all youse are making me think of ditching him.Shame on youse!!!

  104. “Yeah could be true if this were the 80’s and we had ZERO salary cap”

It’s not a matter of how much he’s making, it’s just the way he went aboot things. He couldn’t commit to the team for this season just because of money, and it really did affect his game early on. For a kid his age, with the amount of years he’s been playing, he shouldn’t have the balls to do that, and if you do, you better step it up and prove you’re worth it. And he didn’t. He’s another guy that was nowhere to be found in the final game of the year. He made one good play on a 2 on 1 with Gabby. Other than that, he disappeared like everyone else.

As for Aves. I lost most of my respect for him for what he did, and he looked pathetic crawling back to NYR when nobody would take him, like I’ve said. He’s funny, and I enjoy watching his antics on the ice, and he can be a pretty effective player when he’s on his game, but all that aside, if he’s going to re-sign, then he’ll have to take a pay-cut. If he refuses, then who cares.

And Spezza is talented, but he can be hot & cold when he’s needed the most. I would take him over Dublowsky in a heart beat, depending on what his contract looks like.

  105. wicky (draft Dylan McIlrath in the first round!!) on

wow, to dubi or not to dubi, that is the question.

  106. ZzZz NYR ZzZzllo " Bring on the season already!!! " … says Greg L. on

Dubi went about ( Aboot ) it all wrong . Yes . He is still our best young forward . I think yer a little too harsh on him but yet he did dig his own grave so you are intitled to what yer saying and maybe it does have some merit. All in all its gonna be a great season and we will have tons to debate about. You can teach me the new generations stuff and I’ll clue ya in on all the old school shtuff. It’ll be a good year.

    One last fathersday note …

    I recieved a poem from my daughter in the card I recieved from her today and the last part was quite funny .It read ;

” …he kept everyone well fed ,I was never put in danger ,No matter where we were Unless I insulted the New York Rangers .Thank you once again For now this is all that I’ll say ,But one more thing HAVE AN AWSOME FATHERS DAY!”

Yip ,even my daughter knows better hehe.

  107. >“Rap music sux… case closed!”
    >>I second that.

I have two simple rules when people get in my car: 1. no smoking, 2. no [c]rap/hip-hop.

  108. ZzZz NYR ZzZzllo " Bring on the season already!!! " … says Greg L. on

    Goodnight wicky!!!!

  109. wicky (draft Dylan McIlrath in the first round!!) on

nice card zzzz, and goodnight to you bro!

  110. Someone said the magic word and it got my memory reeling backwards over the years to when I was young and coached

I learned early on to spot a “floater” after just a few turns on the ice.

That brings me to the all time most famous floater in recent history, the unlamented Anson Carter… he fascinated me while he was with Rangers. He brought floating down to an art form.

That hideous collection of ne’er do wells had one redeeming player aboard….Matthew Barnaby. He alone was the only player on that entire team that you saw his legs pumping, and competitive juice flowing every time he was on the ice. Sure Poti was a sentinel during his tour there also, but be did not even try to hide his nonchalance.

But Carter floated while looking as though he was breaking his butt. I couldn’t understand how he could look to be skating so hard yet always just out of reach of the puck, just too short on the receiving end of a pass, just barely missing his check, and then making wide circles when he did, using up gobs of ice time minutes…..I believe that he was simply making sure that he did not incur any injuries while with this hapless collection of “players”.

If you get any old reruns of games that team played look at Carter closely and also Poti, and then regard Barnaby.

It will all leap out at you.

  111. Matthew Barnaby also had heart. One of the biggest I’ve seen in hockey.

Good morning, boneheads! Big week, eh? And another one after that. Why isn’t Shelley signed yet, btw?

  112. i would presume (= hope) that Slats is working on getting Staal’s contract sorted (possibly Girardi’s too) and spending his time with Gordie Clark to make sure the draft is all planned out.

He’s then got a week before UFA bidding begins so he still has a week to exclusively negotiate with all our FA’s before deciding how to waste any remaining cap space on useless bit part players.

Of course he could just be parked outside Redden’s house in an un-marked sedan waiting for the moment when he comes out to pick his morning paper off the lawn and……not that i wish him dead, i’d just prefer to think that next time we see Redden on the ice its because we had the misfortune of watching an episode of “Dancing on Ice”….
