Another zero for the U.S.

Got this from USA Hockey:

U.S. Men’s National Team Earns 4-0 Shutout of France at 2010 IIHF World Men’s Championship

COLOGNE, Germany – Nick Foligno (Buffalo, N.Y./Ottawa Senators) scored twice and Brandon Dubinsky (Anchorage, Alaska/New York Rangers) added a goal and two assists to help the U.S. Men’s National Team to a 4-0 win over France here this afternoon in its second of three relegation-round games at the 2010 International Ice Hockey Federation World Men’s Championship.

“I thought we controlled the play for most of the game,” said U.S. Head Coach Scott Gordon. “In the end we got the job done and that’s what matters most.”

It was a scoreless first period. France had the game’s first shot on goal 62 seconds in, however, Team USA recorded the final nine shots on goal in the frame. T.J. Oshie (Warroad, Minn./St. Louis Blues/University of North Dakota) wheeled around the net and had his rising shot hit the cross bar 12:30 into the period for the best U.S. chance of the frame.

Foligno staked the Americans to a 1-0 lead at 4:49 of the second period. He took a nice feed from Jack Johnson (Ann Arbor, Mich./Los Angeles Kings/Univ. of Michigan) at the left edge of the crease and scored on his own rebound. Dubinsky tallied the other goal of the middle stanza when he went from his forehand to backhand in front and beat Eddy Ferhi. David Moss (Livonia, Mich./Calgary Flames/Univ. of Michigan) and Mike Lundin (Apple Valley, Minn./Tampa Bay Lightning/Univ. of Maine) assisted on the play.

While on the power play, Oshie converted on the rebound of Keith Yandle‘s (Boston, Mass./Phoenix Coyotes) shot just 1:36 into the third period to give the U.S. a 3-0 advantage. Foligno finished the scoring at 13:41 when came from the corner, spun to the middle and beat Ferhi from between the circles.

U.S. netminder Scott Clemmensen (Des Moines, Iowa/Florida Panthers/Boston College) turned aside all 10 shots he faced to earn the victory.

Team USA will conclude play in the 2010 IIHF World Men’s Championship Tuesday (May 18) with its third and final relegation-round game against Italy. Opening faceoff is set for 12:15 p.m. (6:15 a.m. ET). The game can be seen on a tape-delay on Universal Sports and at at 5:30 p.m. ET.

NOTES: Nick Foligno was named U.S. Player of the Game … The last time the U.S. recorded back-to-back shutouts in the World Championships was in 1967. The U.S. tied East Germany, 0-0, on March 25, before beating Finland, 2-0, on March 26. Both games were in round-robin play … The last time the U.S. won back-to-back games without allowing a goal in the World Championship was in 1939 with a 4-0 win over Poland on Feb. 9 and a 1-0 win over Czechoslovakia on Feb. 10. Both games were in preliminary-round play … The IIHF World Men’s Championship relegation round features each group’s last-place team. Each team plays three round-robin games, with the bottom two teams relegated to Division I in next year’s World Championship … For Team USA’s roster, click here … Coverage of the 2010 U.S. Men’s National Team can be found here … All Team USA games, as well as additional international games, will air on Universal Sports and at Visit for the full schedule.

  1. I’m SURE I was cheated out of another “First” because my previous two posts never showed up.

  2. Now we’ve got some controversy.

JBytes, I don’t know why your two comments went into the spam folder, but once I approved them they were inserted in the order they were received.

So I’m giving you credit for the “first” but declaring you and Noremry “co-firsts” on a technicality. Sort of the Avery Rules of the Bonehead blog.

  3. I retract my last comment. ok Thanks Carp!!! LMAO at Avery Rules. Hope JBytes is a good sport!

  4. Gift of GAB-orik (Vinny V) on

Bonehead Bunker… excellent. I bet there is a poster of the 94 team in there in case the bunker is discovered in the distant future… we can prove we won a cup!

  5. Gift of GAB-orik (Vinny V) on

Carp has a dart board down there with Don Cherry’s face as the bullseye.

  6. Thanks for the video replay ruling, Carp.

I’ll be glad to share the spoils with Noremry. We’re one big Rangers family here.

  7. Guys this is totally out of left field and I’m not sure of the parameters of the trade which I mean who is better, would it be straight up or what. This will never happen but it’s the off season and let’s create some talk. How about trading Gaborik for Malkin (again not sure if it would be straight up and who everyone thinks is better) but once we move Gaborik we now have a center and we go out and get a winger. Wanted to generate some talk so I want to know am I loosing it because I think this would be awesome.

  8. True Fans Bleed RW&B on

That would be a very good trade. Gabby probably has 150-250 games of wear left on his career. Malkin definitely has more and is a guy who can take over the momentum of the game. It would give them a top center allow them to try for Kovy or a B-list winger this (and next off season). I like that trade if it’s straight up, but it’ll never happen.

  9. Gift of GAB-orik (Vinny V) on

I think we should just paint the versus logo in the bullseye… this way it’s sort of all encompassing. Cherry hates American hockey, and the versus tv crew is just awful.

  10. Gift of GAB-orik (Vinny V) on

Gaborik for Malkin? Sure then we can trade Lundqvist for Halak, and Redden for new waterbottles and bring Malik back. Then we’d have something!

    bonehead bunker….LOVE IT!!!!!

here is a little twitter blurb to get everyone started this morning….any one have any more infow??

Just read in Page Six that Lohan threw her drink at Voros’ girlfriend and tried to get them and Avery thrown out of 1Oak the other night.

  12. Hell, we might as well throw in Jordan Staal and Fleury into that deal while we’re at it.

Beninati, of course, uses the term “grain hazard” instead of “bunker” when he’s doing golf tournaments.

  13. wicky (Positionally sound=soft in NHL speak!!) on

Do you bonehead fest participants have your grabby, zzzzz, wicky cut outs ready to go yet???

  14. Mama, Linda, Sally –

Will you do me a favor at boneheadfest 2010?

Will you gals drink Sam Adams Boston Lager in honor of me and in MEMORY of the 2010 BOSTON BRUINS?!!

  15. Straight from Page Six itself:

Lindsay Lohan started another fight in a club — this time with New York Ranger skaters Aaron Voros and Sean Avery at 1Oak. The troubled starlet threw a drink over Voros’ model girlfriend, Jessica Stam, and then tried to get all three thrown out of the Wildfox fall-collection party the other night. A spy relates, “Lindsay threw a fit because she wanted to be at their table near the DJ. But she claimed she didn’t want to sit with Aaron and said, ‘He’s my ex-boyfriend. I don’t want him anywhere near me.’ Voros denied knowing her. A drink then flew in Jessica’s face, and Lindsay demanded their table be moved out. Club bosses refused and tried to calm her down. Stam, Voros and Avery were shocked but didn’t retaliate, and Lindsay left shortly afterward.” We await Lohan’s inevitable denial, but we have multiple witnesses. A different source said “Lindsay threw a fit. There was total drama for absolutely no reason.

  19. ill never forget the time i met lindsay
it was the night she was at the ranger game

so why would she be at a ranger game…
    who could have invited her…

i remember she lit a cigarette up in w77
    then she left w/o paying

  20. The White Plains Batman on

Gaborik for Malkin is like an EA Sports NHL 95 trade. I love Gabby and all but it’s too good to be true.

    And Go Sharks and Habs!!!!!!

  21. wicky (Positionally sound=soft in NHL speak!!) on

    how appropriate???

off to work. later boneheads….Go Habs Go!!!!!

  22. LMAO at Avery rules of Boneheads Blog! Carp, how often do you need to change Mackler’s dartboard? Evrery two weeks, I’d guess.

  23. great link laurel! ‘i pray your brakes go out at a hundred and ten’ thats too much

  24. Barça for the win! Real Madrid is what the Rangers used to be pre-lockout – huge contracts, no results.

  25. “Barça for the win! Real Madrid is what the Rangers used to be pre-lockout – huge contracts, no results.”

    Great comparison!

  26. CTBlueshirt on

Madrid has won La Liga not so long ago. And they at least are always in the hunt for the title. It’s their Champions League performance that has really slacked since their last one in 2002. I think we’d feel a lot better about the Rangers if they came close to RM’s performance.

  27. Thank you Universal channel for bringing us the US relegation games — woo hoo, US beats France in the losers round! How about showing the top tier teams? Does Universal network realize that NHL favorites are playing for other countries in the top tier games? Probably too busy bringing us table tennis championships — nice work IIHF.

  28. duguay is bon jovis dad on

linda ,that might be but the resemblance is uncanny.the hair ,the whiter than white veneers, ron gets a little mr.ferley with some of his shirt choices though

  29. CTBlueshirt on

Could you imagine Joe Mich doing an entire series with Byfuglien involved? He’d probably have a heart attack. He would have spontaneously combusted in that Vancouver series.

  30. lmao @ older brother, that totally fits. Stunt double also :-)

damnit why did i think this game was on tonight!?

  31. CTBlueshirt on

Look at that, forwards coming back hard and following up plays to prevent secondary scoring chances. I think that’s all about the lockerroom. You gotta have a lockerroom that the coach is crazy about.

  32. CTBlueshirt on

1-0 Sharks. Hawks D pull a Rangers and deflect the puck into their own net.

  33. blogmama

i figured i could share a snip of that story the rest we can discuss on friday!!! lol

    should be a great night.

  34. CT-

“You gotta have a lockerroom that the coach is crazy about.”

Why? Because if he’s not crazy about his locker room he won’t LET them backcheck hard?

Now, I know you’re not saying that but can you elaborate? I don’t follow.

  35. lmao @ mr. farley, that is absolutely priceless!!! He is definitely disco duguay!

  36. CTBlueshirt on

That was a crack on Torts because in his break up day press conference he talked about how he wasn’t “crazy about the lockerroom” for most of the year. As if that was their biggest problem as opposed to players that are either lazy or not skilled enough to play solid two way hockey.

  37. duguay is bon jovis bro on

nooooooooo!!!!! not dio! ronnie james dio kinda looks like adam oates

  38. CTBlueshirt on

Did he hook his skate when it was off the ice? That looked like he went down pretty easily there.

  39. CTBlueshirt on

Hawks hold on, I thought this was supposed to be a high scoring affair? Good game though. Watch Habs-Flyers be like a 6-5 game.

  40. Where did everyone go? Just finished watching it. Great game. One down, nor to go.. Let’s go Habs!

  41. We waiting for what? For the podium to show up? So we can see who gets the yellow jersey?

  42. I dont care who wins any more. Would love to a great city like Chicago get a Cup.

But, for sake of sticking by those who help me, let’s go Flyers!

  43. ZzZz NYR ZzZz " Rangers will be back!!! " … says Greg L. on

Haha Cr9 Boston blew it bigtime and now you can feel at ease. They not only lost , they choked to the team WE DID!!!
I hate the Flyers but I want other teams to feel the pain of losing to the garbage Flyers like we did.

  44. ZzZz NYR ZzZz " Rangers will be back!!! " … says Greg L. on

Game frickin 82 man a shoot out!!!

  45. Greg

haha. Yes. I can finally enjoy some playoff hockey without being sick every day.

To try and help you out, it’s not that big a deal that we lost to the Flyers. They are clearly a better team than us. And we were never going anywhere in the playoffs.

    SCORE!! Flyers 1-0

  46. ZzZz NYR ZzZz " Rangers will be back!!! " … says Greg L. on

Feel the pain folks…this could be us playing these guys!!!

    Flyers are on a mission.

Flyers will go to the cup , its inevitable.

  47. Greg

Our motto should not have been “safe is death”, but rather “no defense is death”

  48. ZzZz NYR ZzZz " Rangers will be back!!! " … says Greg L. on

Cr9 you couldnt be MORE WRONG. Flyers are not clearly the better team dude!! We lost by 1 shot!!! HOW IS THAT CLEARER?? We had those chumps and we were going as far as the playoffs as the Flyers are and have. To say we’d never go anywhere is retarded man. Pure stupitity ,sorry but I cant agree that the Flyers are a better team…cant do it man.

  49. ZzZz NYR ZzZz " Rangers will be back!!! " … says Greg L. on

Our goaltending alone puts the Flyers to shame.

  50. Greg

Thats fine. I respect your opinion. The only part of our team that’s better than the Flyers is our goalie. A big part, I do not deny, but there’s only so much he can do with no defense in front of him.

  51. Do I need to remind you we were relying on Prust and Shelley scoring big goals for us down the stretch. Where was our most talented scorer?

  52. Habs have a tendency to get right back in and dominate if opposing team let’s off the pressure.

  53. ZzZz NYR ZzZz " Rangers will be back!!! " … says Greg L. on

Prust and Shelly were scoring down the stretch , thats a good thing. We still had 4 olympians on the team for the stretch run and we just came up short… Delzotto is playing for team Canada right now . Our defense was bad but good enough to make it to the shoot out. We lost to a team we should have beat. Heart breaking still!!!

  54. Flyers seem to be having an easier time getting through the neutral zone than Pittsburgh and Washington did.

  55. “Prust and Shelly were scoring down the stretch , thats a good thing.”

Thats where we disagree. It’s great that our 4th line was scoring, yes. It’s not good that we had to rely on them. Our star was nowhere to be found.

  56. By the way, I’d like to suggest using Subban the way Byfuglien is used.

    Subban is a beast!

  57. JB-too early. Martin knows how to adjust. I’ve been really impressed win his coaching.

  58. Subban, I believe, is the reason why Montreal was able to include Ryan McDonagh in Gomez deal

  59. ilb

Can Ryan McDonough be any good for us?

Might he some time in preseason or regular season this year?

  60. Montreal are not going away just yet. Flyers need a fourth goal, not a penalty.

  61. Didn’t McDonough decide to complete his college? I don’t think we’ll see him until the 2011-12 season, IF we can sign him.

  62. Blue Seat Horror on

I know I’m chiming in late. Busy day.

That milkaholic Lindsay is obviously working for Torts. The similarities are too uncanny to be mere coincidence: Throws fluids at people. Flips out. Where have I seen that before?

No on Malkin. He may be a great player, but his lack of integrity turns my stomach. Same reason I wouldn’t want Crosby or Brodeur on the team. All great players, but absolutely not worthy of respect.

R.I.P. Ronnie James Dio. We lost a great voice and a very caring person.

  63. Blue Seat Horror on

Thanks to Benanati shots are no longer blocked, but “deadened” and “softened.” Ha Ha Ha.

I wish this was a better game.

  64. >>Thanks to Benanati shots are no longer blocked, but “deadened” and “softened.”

    You left out “rejected”.

  65. Is Beninati the fool who says the puck is Melted when the goalie stops play?

Melting being the exact opposite of “freezing” which is the correct term.

  66. They just said Patrice Bergeron?

    That’s the Bruins guy, right?

Who’s the Bergeron on either of these 2 teams?

  67. I wouldn’t mind Montreal getting the next two “tallies”. I want an interesting ending to this match.

  68. Blue Seat Horror on

CR9, would you be referring to Canadiens defenseman Marc-Andre Bergeron?

  69. Blue Seat Horror on

Wait! I though the defensemen deadened and softened the puck while the goalie rejected it…

  70. >>Wait! I though the defensemen deadened and softened the puck while the goalie
    >>rejected it…

    Nope! The goalie “says no”.

  71. Tom Foolery on

Maybe someone can help me settle a bet. I remember hearing on the news many years ago that Sergei Zubov and his family were mugged while walking in Brighton Beach. I believe this happened during the summer of 1994 right after they won the cup. My friends think I am crazy. Does anyone remember this story or am I losing it?

  72. Gee, 6-0! I’d save some of those goals for later in the series if I were the Flyers. Canadiens will tighten up for sure.

  73. If you’re Canadiens, do you come back with Price or stay with Halak? I’d probably give the latter one more chance since he carried the team this far.

  74. Halak. If you judge by tonight’s game, the whole team ought to be replaced

  75. CJ from Buffalo on

Halak was pulled early in both series the Habs have played. He came back and played amazingly.

  76. Tom, there is a link to the story in the Moscow Times from December 24, 1994, but i cannot access it as i am not a paying subscriber lol

  77. good job Tom!!! I remember hearing that some punk bumped the baby carriage, but don’t recall the mace part. What’s funny is the Moscow Times said December 24, and the NY Times story was December 27th.

  78. Linda
Did you see my request earlier? At boneheadfest, will you drink a Sam Adams Boston Lager in honor of me and in memory of the 2010 Bruins?!

  79. i dont think i like sam adams. i’ll mostly be drinking vodka enhanced libations, but I’ll do a shot of Jack Daniels for ya lol

  80. Goodnight fellow boneheads! Is it okay if I say I am totally in love with Simon Gagne! What a talent he is! Unbelievably fun to watch.

  81. Olga Folkyerself on

    Go Blackhawks!!!!!!!!!!!!

USA beat France? Big whip. France hasn’t won anything since the Napoleonic Era.

I refuse to root for either the Flyers or Canadiens.

    And FIRE SATHER, will ya?

  82. and there is my theory of the habs getting lucky!! very lucky to beat the caps and pens. halak!! if he is just good the rest of teh way this wont go 6 games. he has to be amazingly amazing for teh habs to go anywhere. and i cant see leighton playing even half as bad as fleury did in that series. honestly,i dont care who wins. just hope the hawks win in teh end. but i just cant se habs pulling it off. after what philly accomplished last series, i just dont think anything will shake them.

about he gabby trade, that would be an awesome deal for us, but then we need a winger. i know we could sign sharp or somebody. but i doubt even if the pens did that trade, we’d have to send a good prospect or 2 or maybe cally or a duby along. gabby still hasnt played a full 82 game season yet. but to think if we basically just flipped gomez for malkin in a years time, that would be incredible. i think truefans is right about gabbys longevity though. i really cant see him fulfilling his contract fully. if he does, i will be shocked. just look at his play from the beginning of teh season to the bitter end, he was obviously not even close to being teh same player. really sucks. just look at rozy. hes ben a shell of his former self even if he wasnt that great to begin with all after his surgery.

  83. wicky- they really need to make some cardboard cutouts of me,you, greg and tony for teh boneheadapalooza!! just make sure you guys put us at our own table and order us some sam adams!!! linda, u better not draw any funny mustaches on us and make sure cr9 doesnt put a roofie in my drink!! haha j/k cr!!

  84. Not a good morning all! There aren’t enough made up or real words to describe my thoughts on last night…..ARGH!

  85. leetchhalloffame on

How, how, how can the Flyers be headed to the Cup Finals? This is ridiculous – to think that they made the playoffs on the last day of the season by “winning” a shootout.
