Jim Barry and John Scuderi.
You have no idea who those guys are, right?
Well, just to paint the picture, yesterday I made two terrible errors in my initial post. Sloppy, lazy, dumb mistakes.
They happen. We’re all human, even the Blogfather. Especially the Blogfather.
But I wouldn’t even be here doing this, or especially my real job, if it weren’t for Jim Barry and John Scuderi and others. Because in the newspaper, and in columns on the web site, well, it isn’t blog-world. You can’t just go back and fix things, or make mistakes and say, “Ooops.” In the newspaper you have to be right … well, at least most of the time.
And those two guys, mainly, read the stuff I write (which has to be hard enough) and edit it, and catch all the stupid, dumb, lazy mistakes I make. They check spellings. They check facts. They catch it when I forget to put in the score (duh). They catch it when I call somebody by the wrong name (it happens). Or when I plain brain-lock. Because in the paper, there are no excuses. There are corrections the next day, but those are black eyes. And I’d have plenty of those if not for Jim and John, and the other guys on the copy desk.
So, after being embarrassed by dumb mistakes yesterday, I really realized how many times these guys have saved me from being embarrassed over the years. My heroes. I should thank them.
My other hero: CCCP. See the previous thread.
Gotta tell ya, I’m really excited about Chicago-San Jose in the WCF. Which I think is the SCF.
And now this heroic auction to help Haiti, from the NHLPA. I usually don’t go for auctions of memorabilia, but when it’s for a good cause, I’m happy to help. So this:
HOCKEY FANS CAN OWN A PIECE OF OLYMPIC HISTORY BY JOINING THE NHLPA IN SUPPORTING “HOCKEY FOR HAITI” RELIEF EFFORT
NHLPA auctioning 140 game-worn 2010 Olympic hockey jerseys; Bidding starts tonight on eBay.ca
TORONTO, ON (May 11, 2010) – With bidding starting at 99 cents, hockey fans from around the world have the opportunity to own a piece of Olympic hockey history, while supporting the “Hockey for Haiti” relief project. Jerseys worn by NHL players during the 2010 Olympics, including Sidney Crosby, Jarome Iginla, Ryan Miller and Alex Ovechkin will be auctioned off by the National Hockey League Players’ Association (NHLPA) on eBay.ca. Bidding on these unique items starts tonight at 7:00 p.m. ET.
All proceeds will go to “Hockey for Haiti”, a joint initiative between Georges Laraque, the NHLPA and World Vision. In total, 140 Olympic hockey jerseys, worn by NHL players from 12 different countries, during the 2010 Olympics are up for auction.
To launch this one-of-a-kind auction, 23 jerseys from Team Canada players, including the jersey worn by Sidney Crosby when Canada faced off against Germany during their qualification round match-up and also the jersey worn by Jarome Iginla – who scored two goals in the February 23rd Canadian victory – will be up for bidding.
Schedule of Auction Phases:
Each auction will last for seven days.
“We’re thrilled that the NHLPA is starting all of the auctions at 99 cents,” said Andrea Stairs, country manager of eBay Canada. “Hockey fans should bid early and often to get in on the action and keep in mind that all of the money raised goes towards the Hockey for Haiti program.”
