COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Jack Johnson (Ann Arbor, Mich./Los Angeles Kings/Univ. of Michigan) was today named captain of the 2010 U.S. Men’s National Team that will play in the upcoming International Ice Hockey Federation World Men’s Championship, May 7-23, in Cologne, Gelsenkirchen and Mannheim, Germany.
Johnson has represented the United States seven previous times, most recently at the 2010 Olympic Winter Games. He was also a member of Team USA at two IIHF World Men’s Championships (2007, 2009), two IIHF World Junior Championships (2006, 2007) and two IIHF World Men’s U18 Championships (2004, 2005).
In addition, four alternate captains were named, including Nick Foligno (Buffalo, N.Y./Ottawa Senators), Matt Greene (Grand Ledge, Mich./Los Angeles Kings/Univ. of North Dakota), Eric Nystrom (Syosset, N.Y./Calgary Flames/Univ. of Michigan) and Kyle Okposo (St. Paul, Minn./New York Islanders/Univ. of Minnesota).

PJ play very long sets, with multiple encores. So, the show will most likely end between 11-12 sometime. Who knows? It will be their last show in the states for this tour, and they usually go all out for MSG, though I don’t expect it to go as long as the show I saw at the Spectrum on Halloween, which is their longest show to date, clocking in at a little over 3 and a half hours.
That’s a full night but it is the weekend. Who knows, there might be a hat exchange going on at W77, you wouldn’t want to miss out on that would you?

Shea Weber has a pretty hard shot. Came in 2nd to Chara the last skills competition. The Preds already have Suter and they can resign Hamhuis. I’d trade a package built on Dubi or Cally and one of the blueline prospects for Weber.
Who knows, maybe by playing in the LEastern conference he’d have a shot to make it to uncharted territory, the 2nd round.
CT, have you picked up on my Shea Weber crush? If Nashville does not trade him, his contract is up at the end of the season if I remember correctly.

They had just gotten muscled out of the playoffs by Philly, and he and Nedved were soft as melted butter, if not scared to death, and he was getting worse defensively, not better. I’m not saying it turned out well. It didn’t. But I’m saying, if Robitaille had come in and scored his usual 40 per, it wouldn’t look so bad now.
And to this day, I don’t blame Campbell for holding a grudge against what Zubov and Kovalev did to him in his first coaching experience in the AHL.

to this day, I think its possible that the 95 Ranger team had more talent than the 94 team. they added Verbeek,and Nedved, and lost Tikk. I actually thought a big mistake was when they let Gilbert go on waivers in order to keep Osbourne. Gilbert meant more to the team than given credit for, and Osbourne was done.
In terms of the finished product, yes the 95 team might have had more talent than 94. However I think if the Rangers retained either Amonte or Gartner at the trade deadline (my Glenn Anderson hate is showing on this one) they would have still had a pretty solid top 6.
Keenan also didn’t like Zubov much. No one in the organization was much for his cigarette addiction.

I do know that Zubov led the 1994 team in points! He was 4th in playoff scoring that year! This guy had 89 points in a 78 game season, could you imagine a Rangers forward doing that these days? We would be ecstatic. That trade, IMO, was a personal vendetta and NOT a move to improve the team.

Carp will be able to tell the story better, but on Kovalev, Zubov, and Campbell, Campbell felt that Kovalev and Zubov quit on him in the AHL when he was the coach. Campbell actually scratched both of them in a game 7 playoff. they of course lost the game. I believe this was in 93.
To piggy back on what bulldog said… from what I’ve read/understand, Zubov and Kovalev apparently felt that after a season of being mostly in the NHL they were mostly above playing in the AHl and didn’t want to be there so they dogged it, for lack of a better term.
I might be totally wrong on this, and as bulldog said, Carp would know more about this.

correct. 1992-93, that awful year for the Rangers. Campbell had to go down to the AHL affiliate because Ron Smith was promoted to head coach after Roger Neilson was fired in January. He went and did a very good job in his first coaching chance. Then came the playoffs. The Rangers missed and decided to send down rookies Kovalev and Zubov to get some playoff experience. Both of them QUIT because they didn’t want to be there, and Campbell’s team was knocked out of the playoffs. He scratched them from Game 7 because they didn’t want to play.
Fortunately for Campbell, Keenan came in and promoted him to associate coach, and, though none of you want to admit it, it was Campbell’s coaching that won that Game 7 against Vancouver after Iron Mike went nuts and the Canucks came back from 3-1 to tie it.
these are just stats, so they don’t prove whether or not Zubov and Kovalev dogged it, but,
Zubov had 36 pts in 30 regular season games, and 10 pts in 11 playoff games for Binghamton. Kovalev had 13 goals in 13 games in the regular season, and 8 pts in 9 playoff games for Binghamton.

I don’t understand what there is to admit, Campbell was a very good asst. coach. He was actually a good head coach, he had some successful teams during his stay. I think he was behind some very pore personal decisions that lead to Ranger failures in the playoffs during his time. to me he seemed to get to conservative in big spots, where as Keenan went for it in big spots.
I agree on a lot of that, bull dog. He had seven playoff series in three seasons.

I know I’m little late on this one as the Zubov comments were from about 6 hours ago. However, another reason that Zubov was traded was the interpretation change in the rules where it was going to be an obstruction penalty to hold up forecheckers and there was a lot concern about Zubov being able to withstand the extra forechecking that was predicted to be greater. It turned out to not be as bad as was predicted and of course the Rangers overreacted and dealt Zubov for Ulf Samuelsson who was more suited for the anticipated more physical game. And somehow the clutching and grabbing actually got worse.
