Kreider going to Worlds (updated)

This announcement just in from USA Hockey.

That among the players added to its World Championship tournament roster, from teams just eliminated from the Stanley Cup playoffs is:

“Chris Kreider (Boxford, Mass./Boston College), who helped the U.S. to the gold medal at the 2010 IIHF World Junior Championship, will make his first U.S. Men’s National Team appearance.”

Looks to me like Bonehead True Fans Bleed RW&B, who picked seven of eight first-round series correctly, is the winner of “the inaugural Olli Jokinen Five-Hole/Beat the Blogfather Extravaganza and Picnic” and the book “100 Ranger Greats” unless somebody else comes up with another 7 for 8. I did a quick check yesterday, at which point True Fans was the only one with seven wins, so unless somebody had six and Montreal last night, True Fans is the champ.

So last call for any others, though I don’t think there are any others.

Just for fun, does anybody want to try picking the next round?

Here are mine:
Penguins over Habs in four.
Bruins over Flyers in seven.
Sharks over Red Wings in seven.
Blackhawks over Canucks in six.

AFTERNOON UPDATE, 4:40 P.M.: Also, Mark Messier added Michael Del Zotto to his young Canadian team.

  1. Good morning this afternoon, Sally!

Now I hope Jesus Halak gets lit up by Sid and Gene and the boys. Which I think is coming anyway.

  2. Mistascum NYR TAT ENJ on

I’m picking Vancouver for the cup. I know its probably going to end up being Pitt v Det again but I’m hoping against hope we see the Habs and Nucks, Canada deserves a full hockey year. A cup and a gold medal same year? Pshh, America doesnt deserve a cup this season, I’m sorry.

    Grats dude! Enjoy the prize!

  3. Mistascum NYR TAT ENJ on

And don’t get me wrong, I’m a true patriot, love my country to death BUT until this country can realize how much more intense and exciting hockey is compaired to baseball or football, Canada deserves the glory.

  4. 7 of 8, very impressive TrueFans…we dont get to see savards against the pens maybe we will see it in the conference finals!

  5. i was thinking about this after the game. y r the montreal canadiens called the canadiens and the toronto maple leafs the maple leafs? Isnt it obvious that a team from montreal are canadiens and come on toronto the maple leaf is in canadas flag

  6. Penguins over Habs in five.
    Flyers over Bruins in six.
Red wings over Sharks in six.
    Blackhawks over Canucks in six.

  7. wicky (Positionally sound=soft in NHL speak!!) on

ok so i only missed one out west (la) and missed three in the east (got the bruins right). that is pitiful!!!

I’m going bruins in 7, pens in 6, nucks in 6, and wings in 7.

I don’t remember who it was in the last thread but had the team needing 7 new players is pretty accurate all things considered. Just not sure who those seven are. I know I would go after hedberg as hank’s back up, volchenkov as one of the d, and holmstrom at one of the forwards or armstrong, beyond that……

  8. Just pulling myself out of Buffalo Sabres depression… My dream is Ryan Miller walks into Reiger’s office and hatchets his goalie stick down on the desk demanding some of the so called “core players” be shipped out of town after three years of failure.

    Montreal in 7
    Bruins in 5
    Red Wings in 6
    Blackhawks in 7

I hate the Habs but hate Crosby more…. frankly, I don’t care who moves on from the East… riding the Hawks bandwagon now for our old guy Brian Campbell and of course Homeboy Kane despite his transgressions.

    WTG True Fans!

    Just for fun:
    Pens in 5
    Flyers in 6
    Wings in 6
    Hawks in 7

My first round picks were 0 for 8. I got most of the winning teams right. And by most, I mean 5 out of 8. lol. Oh well.

  10. is this day over yet?

    My picks:

    Pens in 5
Flyers in 6 (just for you, CR!)
    Wings in 7
    Hawks in 7

  11. and congrats, true fans.

Good news for Kreider. 3 Rangers on the US Worlds teams, not bad.

  12. Good Job True Fans.

    My for fun picks

    Pens over Habs in 6
    Flyers over Bruins in 7
Sharks over Red Wings in 6
    Canucks over Chicago in 6

  13. Mistascum NYR TAT ENJ on

    I should clarify…

    Habs in 6
    Boston in 7
    Sharks in 5
    Nucks in 6

    Against the grain there, lol.

  14. Enjoy the book, True Fans.
    I’ll leave with 6 out of 8…

Kreider is from Mass./Boston College?! We might’ve just lost one of our true, loyal Rangers fans :)

    Pens in 6
    Bruins in 7
    Sharks in 6
    Canucks in 6

I’m rooting for the Habs, Bruins, Sharks and Hawks, though. I think the ‘Nucks win it this year.

  15. Thanks for that, LW. I’ll post it up top.

Any of you old enough … did you see Halak with his mask on top of his head during the handshake line? Did he not look a lot like Patrick Roy in Roy’s rookie year playoff run?

  16. Good afternoon, Carp! And congrats, True Fans!

    Penguins over Habs in 5
    Flyers over Bruins in 6

    Wings over Sharks in 6
    Canucks over Hawks in 7

Buffalogal, “I hate the Habs but hate Crosby more”. AMEN.

  17. Pens over Habs in 6
    Flyers over B’s in 6

    Penguins Sweep

    Bruins Sweep

    Canucks sweep

    Detriot sweeps

    Then… Penguins sweep

    Then…Detroit sweeps

Stanley Cup finals…Pittsburgh wins game 7 in overtime.

  21. Most exciting and sympathetic team this year for me is Chicago.(My “wannabe” Rangers dream in work and progress). The smartest, well oiled machine, gaining revs.- Detroit. This two pleasure to watch for any hockey Gourmet. Hate to see Pens in Final(unfortunately they will be), almost equally dislike Habs, however have to give them what is due – “The dwarfs team” surprised anyone. Can’t care less about Boston and/or Vancouver.
    Pens over Habs in 6
    Flyers over Boston in 5
    Wings over Sharks in 6
    Hawks over ‘Nucks in 7
Too bad I’ll forget about this in a while.

  22. Gonyrangers11 on

    Habs over Pens in seven.
    Bruins over Flyers in six.
Sharks over Red Wings in six.
    Blackhawks over Canucks in seven.

  23. Hawks are a very impressive team = handled a VERY GOOD Nashville team in very professional fashion. I don’t know if they can handle the shooters on Vancouver though, because Luongo isn’t gonna give them very much.

  24. Habs over Pens in 7

    Flyers over Bruins in 6

    Sharks over Wings in 6

    Canucks over Hawks in 6

  25. Pens over Montreal in 4? Pittsburgh didnt even look that good in round 1, and they are facing a much better goalie this round, although their skaters are probably a bit weaker than ottawa’s roster. I dont see them sweeping though, especially with how tough it is to win in montreal.
Also, the whole eastern conference is so bad, as you always say, the leastern conference. Someone from the west is taking it this year, even if cindy and the pens have a ridiculously easy route to the finals

  26. Pittsburgh over Montreal in 6

    Boston over Philly in 6

San Jose over Detroit in 7

    Chicago over Vancouver in 7

  27. chuk schreier on

    Penguins over Habs in 6

    Canucks over Blackhawks in 6
There any prizes for this one??

  28. True Fans Bleed RW&B on

Thank you, Carp and everyone else. Carp, if nobody else comes up with 7 picks (or 8, which I imagine is impossible with the stinker the Caps had) I’ll email you my address. Thank you again, I really look forward to the book.

Greg, I would thank you, but i’m not sure I understand your comment. You picked the Devils to sweep! Whose loyalty should be in question here?

  29. Izzy Mandlebaum on

    Pittsburgh over Montreal in 5

    Boston over Philly in 5

San Jose over Detroit in 7

Black Hawks over Vancouver in 6

  30. Pittsburgh over Montreal in 5
    Philadelphia over Boston in 7
Detroit over San Jose in 6
Vancouver over Chicago in 5 (YES, 5!)

  31. >>Right move by Sabres:
From the article, “And don’t rule out the Sabres trading top-line center Tim Connolly(notes), who was a playoff bust with one assist against Boston.”

Hahaha! A team would have to be CRAZY to trade for Connolly. The guy gets a concussion if a teammate taps his helmet too hard during a goal celebration.

But then again, our Mr. Sather never saw a reclamation project he didn’t like.

  32. One of those basketball thugs would probably rob the Wangemanns, AND drive away with the spare tyre too.

  33. 3-0, Sharks! This one looks to be over quite early. Another SJ goal and I’ll say good night.

  34. I guess no San Jose defenceman heard Cleary hammer his stick on the ice calling for the puck?

  35. Sharks stopped trying after that 3rd goal and they were willingly dumping the puck to Detroit. That’s the worst thing you can do with a team that thrives off of puck possession.

  36. wicky (Positionally sound=soft in NHL speak!!) on

i wouldn’t mind seeing us add lombardi either!

    Pitt over MTL in 5
    Philly over Boston in 7

    It’s a game again. 3-2 now.

Who are the ex-Rangers happy to be in this series?

  40. True Fans Bleed RW&B on

Bennanati-ism #231, courtesy of the SJS announcers.
    “Optical Deficit” = Screened goaltender.

  41. Ortmeyer and Maholtra on the Sharks. Don’t think there are any on the Wings…I wonder if that says anything about how a team like Detroit values Ranger players.

  42. Last year the Wings did have Mikael Samuelsson though. But he wasn’t the goal scoring machine even for them as he is for the Nucks.

  43. Olga Folkyerself on

I was imagining a Boston-Chicago final. In all those years, they have never met in the finals…

  44. That’s much more likely Olga, I’d just wonder how Moore would control his emotions though.

  45. Wicky – I Laiched that article – sucks how the positive ones don’t get much traction.

  46. Penguins over Habs in 6
    Bruins over Flyers in 7
Red Wings over Sharks in 7
    Blackhawks over Canucks in 7

  47. Pens over Habs in 5

    Quick Story:

I was in Buffalo yesterday for a presenting my product to a retail buyer of a grocery chain. After going through the business BS, we got to talking about hockey, and I learned that he was a die-hard Sabres fan. We both agreed that their problem wasn’t talent, rather leadership and grit. After talking, the subject of our beloved Captain came up and it seems that Buffalo fans would LOVE to have Dru back playing for them. I was SHOCKED. I told him, that among some diehards in NY, that he’s been an absolute bum and his contract (and no movement clause) make him dead weight, but he said that Drury was exactly what that team needed.

No chance in HE** that a trade involving Dru EVER happens, but we can dream right??

  50. Oh please please please let Drury long for his days in the Angry Bison/Buffaslug jersey.

  51. PICKS

Sharks over Red Wings in five.

  52. Good morning all! Happy Friday. I’m going to take Habs over Pitt in 7 just cause I want Pitt to lose and send out good vibes :)
