It appears that Mats Zuccarello-Aasen will be a Ranger. He’s 22. He plays the off-wing (I like that, and don’t ever get why more left shots don’t play the right side, and vice versa).
Apparently there is some technicality with his transfer rights that might mean he can’t be signed, officially, until after the World Championships (the most mis-named championship in sports, since most of the best players in the world are playing for the real world championship, the Stanley Cup, at the time).
Andrew Gross has reported that Marc Staal will play for Canada, and that Artem Anisimov is on Russia’s preliminary roster and Brandon Dubinsky and Matt Gilroy will play for USA.
Speaking of Gilroy, as we said on the earlier thread, Zuccarello-Aasen is kind of the same sort of gamble: None. Worst that happens, he goes to Hartford. Best that happens, he comes out of camp with a job, and cost nothing but money.
