“Obviously it helps our penalty killing and I think Cally’s still trying to find his way back into what he does for this hockey club. I think he’s adjusted a little bit to even wearing a brace. But to have him on the bench at key times … I think tonight’s going to be a very important game where we have a Ryan Callahan because I think it’s going to be quite a bit of board play, where he is one of the best at it, as far as pucks out, pucks in, all that stuff we talk about. And again he’s just so well respected in the room that it’s important to have him on the bench. He gives you a lot of different situations you can put him in.”

I suspect that this series will end about where the NYR deserve to have it end, i.e., with them in the stands watching other, more capable teams in the playoffs. This coach is a terrible mistake. His roster decisions and bench management since around Thanksgiving (when the real season starts) were poor to put it mildly. This is his team. He had substantial input in player selection. The team often looks confused, both on O and on D. The game is played on the ice but all of this is Tortorella’s failing and he has failed along with his personnel. I hope the broom sweeps clean when this mediocre season ends and I expect that to be either tonight or Sunday.
