As youse know by know, Atlanta lost to Pitt in OT, but escaped with one of those Bettman Bonus points.
S0 the Thrashers jump ahead of the NYR with 81 points, but the Rangers have two games in hand and one more victory (the first tiebreaker). Tonight the Rangers play their game-in-hand on Philly, which is off. The Flyers, by the way of looking ahead, have three more victories.
Other pertinent games tonight: Boston (5GR, 82 pts.) at Toronto; Buffalo at Montreal (4GR, 84 pts.).
And since you know that I’m always a cockeyed optimist when it comes to the Blueshirts, here’s what the standings would look like if NYR, T.O. and Buff all happen to win in regulation (Rangers having the tiebreaker over Boston):
6. Montreal 84 (3 GR).
7. Phila. 82 (4 GR).
8. NYR 82 (4 GR).
9. Boston 82 (4GR).
10. Atlanta 81 (3 GR).
That is some serious race!
