This was the last paragraph of my post yesterday:
“I am going to the game at MSG tomorrow. Unless something happens. And why have I come to expect something to happen?”
That was written from West Point. Since then, I had a horrific ride back from West Point, driving through flooded roads that looked like lakes, weaving to avoid falling and fallen trees, having to turn back and take at least seven or eight detours because of closed roads.
I get home, no electricity, nothing. Pitch black, pouring rain, and I have to move this small tree out of my driveway to get in. So I manage to get in the house, trembling, and all I hear all night is trees falling. Sure enough, when daylight comes, there are four huge trees in my driveway. So now I can’t even get my car out. No electricity. Which means no water (we have well water). No internet. No cable. No telephone. My cell phone barely works at home. No wireless signal.
So I bummed a ride downtown from a neighbor so I could get this signal and tell you that something happened, as expected ,and I won’t be going to the game today. I won’t be watching the game. And unless there’s some miracle with the pathetic radio stations that carry Rangers games, I wont’ be listening to the game. Or following it online.
I’ll be sitting at home in the dark. Fun. Did anybody else get hit particularly hard by this freakin’ storm?
Anyway, this might be your game thread, unless Laurel jumps in, or unless I figure a way to get a signal later on. Oh, my laptop battery is low, too. We have a generator, but I’m saving the gas for tonight and for the next several days, because it’ll be a while before we’re up and running here. So I can’t even power up the laptop until tonight.

first off, Olly slashed at the puck. was it a great penalty, as in stepping in for your teammate. no. but it wasn’t the worst of the worst (i.e. the usual lazy hooking calls)
we used to be able to kill penalties on a regular basis, and if we would have got the puck out of the zone and redden would have pushed his man a little…..probably no goal.
as for the second penalty, SAME STUPID lack of communication between Ranger dman and Hank, which set up a situation of confusion and panic. should NOT have happened.

Drury has a slapshot. He has a great slapshot for someone who’s 5’9”. He does not have a slapshot to compete with most NHL defensemen, though and even if he did, does not have the stick length to generate that velocity. Gaborik and Dubinsky both have great, quick releases. Neither would win a hard shot competition, though.
Drury takes forever to get his shot off though. And when he does it ends up going straight into the goalie’s midsection. Gaborik doesn’t always utilize his slap shot, his wrist shot is better and his slap shots from full wind up isn’t as good as hit one timers.
