POST-GAME QUOTES
John Tortorella on Henrik Lundqvist… “He played very well.  He made some good saves early.  When they mounted on us in the third period, he made some great saves.  We need it, that is how you win.  We are not the only team, every team that wins gets goaltending.  Henrik is the backbone.  He played very well tonight.”
Henrik Lundqvist on beating New Jersey … “It doesn’t matter who you play.  The top teams are not that much better than the teams that are in 10th place, they are just more consistent.  The game, itself, is not tougher.  They have been very consistent, that is why they are up there.  Don’t get me wrong, they are a very good team.  It is going to be just as tough to play a seventh place team.  It was a fun game, a lot of action.  We scored some huge goals in the second period.  It was a good game to get.”
Marian Gaborik on the upcoming Winter Olympics … “Everybody is focused on the season here.  The Olympics hasn’t started yet.  When the day comes we will focus on that but the main focus is the season right now.”

  4. Ilb2001

Sean Avery just walked in. With his girlfriend. Said hello. Cool guy. I think. I’m going to ask him what he said to Ilya.

  5. ORR !! What Is It Good For ?!?!

Don’t push it Ilb, he might get Brash*t to hug you, if he’s around.

  6. Raider

Is anyone watching Rangers in 60? Why did they just put the 1st period back on? What in holy hell

  7. EddieJ

Can’t complain about Hank’s glove hand tonight, huh? Do you think maybe he’s finally addressed and solved the problem? I guess only time will tell.

Don’t know whose idea it was for Avery to take Kovy off the ice with him, but it was a brilliant strategy. Especially at that time of the game. Do you think that the coach tells Avery to do that, or is it Avery’s idea?

    Anyway,good job boys!

  8. ranger909

ilb, let us know if he tells u. and ask him about that twitter thing about not being able to tweet what he wants

  9. Ilb2001

Brashear is still in warm ups. He forgot the game was over. The age, you know..

  10. ddebened

Brilliant strategy? More like stupidity on Kovs part. Kudo’s to Avery none the less for being able to push to right button.

  11. Shoryuken on Glen Sather

I’m watching NHL on the Fly and man does the Thrashers announcer need some decaf, he is so irritating.

  12. Sally

ranger909, I wanna know what that was about too! And where did voros34 go?

  13. ranger909

during the losing streak voros suspended his twitter.

    NHLPA greed
    February 6th, 2010 at 11:34 pm
these players are getting outrageously greedy. 2 Canes trades were canceled, one had dman Wallin going to Sharks, but he demanded a contract extension, so Sharks called it off

and the other had Ray Whitney going to LA, but Whitney demanded a 3 year extension, so LA said forget it. rightly so.

  16. Linda says I BELIEVE IN THE NOSENS!! and FIRE SATHER!!!!

are these guys heading straight down the path to another lockout?? outrageous contracts are just going to bring the league right back to the brink. a lost season for what??

  17. ddebened

Yes, NHL, NFL and MLB are going straight to hell

  18. Sally

But I really “liked” Voros’ twitter and his use of “quotation marks”.

i guess the kovalchuk stick jabbing of avery doesnt matter eh?

  25. AFLY

Love Prusts heart but the kids too tiny. Did you see Colton tonight? Man I’d love that type of firepower back.

  26. ddebened

Toughness needs to be team wide – a few people can’t be tough for the whole team

  27. Duker

any of you guys see that quote by lemaire saying how he thinks “trash-talking” should warrant a penalty? LOL

  28. Linda says I BELIEVE IN THE NOSENS!! and FIRE SATHER!!!!

Duker, i saw that in the article i linked up, i was thinking WHAT IS WRONG WITH THIS GUY????

  29. NYRGuy

I love how they just play the blame game on Avery and that’s why they lost.

Hey Lemaire, should the Rangers get a 2 Min Unsportsmanlike for the fans chanting “MARTY! MARTY!” and getting him off his game??

  30. Ilb2001

Btw, this isn’t the first time Sean takes Ilya off his game. Remember that game 3 of the playoffs a few years back? Perhaps it’s time to learn, Ilya.
And Marty, Sean payed the price? Hmmm. He looked pretty clean and happy about 20 min ago to me. That Callahan’s goal should bother you more, mr Brodeur.

  31. paulieplatypus

I believe this might be the first game all year that Torts has felt comfortable enough with his players chemistry, to leave his lines together for the whole game.

  32. Linda says I BELIEVE IN THE NOSENS!! and FIRE SATHER!!!!

lmao ilb… the way things get spun is incredible!

they dont like that their rental goal scorer was taken off his game by public enemy number one? how badly are they going to cry when they play the flyers and the president of white trash city and pennywise are all up in his grill???

  33. RickyM2

You finally get a strong game and won. Hank was solid. Marty was not. We lose. Oh well. We’ll get you next time. Kovi may be a great player, but he has a lot to learn about rivalries. Y’all can have him on July 1. For now we’re gonna use him like a drunk mayor.

  34. Jaik

Ears are still ringing from the Marty chants earlier.

  35. tr-808

had a great night. so glad they won. read some of the quotes, pretty typical. hope everyone got home safe. hope to do that again.

  36. wicky....where the hell is Witt slatipuss??

    was there a game tonight??

  37. wicky....where the hell is Witt slatipuss??

    i kid…i kid!!

    great game!!

can’t believe the wings got tollefsen…time to send girardi and lisin to the wings for holmstrom and tollefsen!!

  38. theflynn

This is somnetghing that I’ve asked before and noonehas answered.

What is the intelligence or thinking process that causes a team to get awarded a [power play, and then DUMP THE PUCK INTO THE ZONE..instead pof maintaining possession?

The Rangers are so acustomned to dumping the puck in that they do it automatically. The result is usually the other team bringing it right back out. Or on a PP…they simply ice it.

But the Rangers went even farther with this idiocy the other night when with about 30 wseconds to play, the pulled the goaltender, and THEN DUMPED THE PUCK! The other team promptly collected it and threw it length of the ice..time ran out..game over.
Does Tortorella actually subscribe to this stupidity on display?

  39. LW3H

Superb hypocrisy from Lemaire and Brodeur in that article. So Avery is only the ice for one thing? OK, debatable, but let’s run with it. But Lemaire always employs giant lunks like Boogaard and Peters who, even by the low standards of most enforcers, simply can’t play the game at all and get on the ice for 3-4 minutes a game.

And if it’s so wrong for Avery to aim to take a more talented opponent out of the game with his mouth, why should he feel obliged to let Peters do the same to him with his fists, particularly when Peters is twice his size?

  40. theflynn

I made mention during Colton’s last season as a Ranger that he was the most indispensable player they had. Got laughed at naturally, but I didn’t say most valuable…I said indispensable…like you know.. unreplaceable? I also said that if they trade him they will live to regret it. Think back now, who would you rather still manning that 4th line..Betts and Colton? Or the shmoes that they’ve got?

  41. LW3H

And presumably Lemaire and Brodeur have both agreed to return the Stanley Cup rings that noted angelic mute, Claude Lemieux helped them to win, as a matter of principle?

  42. cwgatti

Colton Orr is back. After Carkner KO’d him in the last Feafs-Sens tilt, Orr was largely ineffective as a fighter. T
Last nite, he laid the lumber to a very tough man in Carkener. Orr is back. Good for him. I had written him off. But let it be a lesson: Heavyweights ride a fine line. One day they are feared, the next they are useless. Brashear and even Larauque are prime examples.

  43. cwgatti

Oh, and or is a great fighter, but so poor a player that he is a liability on the ice. How Renney had this guy on lines v. Crosby back in the day is crazy. But, give credit where credit is due. Renney was a good coach, and Betts & Slo were probably better than a lot of people wanna realize.

  44. cwgatti

    Orr not Or. . .

  45. hedberg

Marty world class goalie(but still overrated) & and world class winy, excuse making Bitch (actually a little underrated). God does it bother him that Hank and Avery got his number or what? What a Tool. FRENCH TOAST=MAAAAAAARTY

  46. Dubiiiii

I’ve been trying to figure out what Avery said to Woodchuck, all i can think is it was something like…

“So your the devils new goal whore?”

  47. just a thought

Long time since I posted. Wicky I believe Detroit waived Tollefsen, could not fit him under cap

  48. Jorek

Hi guys awesome time last night! It was great to meet a few of the regulars here. I definitely hope to make it to some more gatherings.

  49. Agravaine

My first thought was that whenever I’ve been to Jersey they don’t chant for their team (they have plenty of anti chants but very rarely do I hear Let’s Go DEvils) then they tried to come into our building and chant for the Devils. Ha! Anyway the game was great, yea three goals on what? three shots there? The Marty chants were so loud!!!

Great time last night it was awesome meeting people form the blog and we need to do it again :)

  50. RickyM2

Wow, one good win and you can’t enjoy it? All the trash talking? Your still in 9th place. Remember what happened last time you played well against the devils? Every game after was a disaster. Last night just sealed Slats’ job for a looooong time.

  51. bull dog line

still with the Betts and Orr stuff! get over it already.

  52. Ilb2001

    Good morning.
Was our pleasure meeting some boneheads in real life last night.
Agravaine, Jorek, mrs TR and TR. Would certainly do it again. Even mrs ilb had fun. And she knows as much about hockey as I do about local agriculture in Alaska.

Someone must’ve injected a high dose of steroids into Hanks glove.

  53. theflynn

Orr has steadfastly tried improving on his playing skills. He’s never gonna be mistaken for the next Marcel Dionne, but I do believe that he has scored just about as often as, ah, Redden has? And infinitely more feared on the ice than Wade
the sidler. I’d take him over Redden. (And he rarely takes the chippy penalties,) hooking, holding, tripping…you know all the ones that Roszival and Girardi are prone to commit.

  54. theflynn

And one other thing….he’s getting a lot more regular ice time with the Leafs than he ever got with Rangers.

  55. Jorek

    Hey Lemaire, Kovalchuk, and Brodeur

Sicks and jabs may bruise your abs but words will never hurt you

  56. Hockeymon

    Hi Folks

Hank played the best game of his life last night. Sweden will win the olmpic gold easily, if he plays like that. The Rangers on the whole played pretty good. They scored three goals and weren’t to bad in their own end. That is the only way this team is going to make the playoffs. Hank will have to play that good from now til the end of the season.

  57. RickyM2

If some of you are happy with a big mouth coach, a league weasel in Avery, a silent captain in drury, a cowardly lion in brashear, and an inconsistant goalie who has to steal a game if you wanna win, then enjoy it.

But when Avery chirped at kovi, he got devils fans happy. We didn’t know the boy can fight. Avery got saved by the refs, and Prust almost got pummeled to china by peters. Hank was your only weapon last night, along with some help from the zebras. He was determined to win. Especially after the last meeting.
Kovi was quoted “I’m waiting for the next time we play them, this is real hockey” speaking about the rivalries.

So here is my congratulations for a much needed win for your team. See ya again in March. Hopefully the refs won’t be blind when a puck is in play,

WA-WA-WA, Go Back to your Devils Baby Den.

Its called getting suckered in and Avery knows that Kovysucks is an easy target for getting suckered in getting a penalty.

  59. Timay

Yeah the 27 Devil fans are so happy now—who cares about the Devils-really? Marty’s whining rubs off on all 27 of you.

  60. Domi28

Just like I said, getting suckered in
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8-i-UrhCaww&feature=related

  61. ZzZz NYR ZzZz "Wicked Glove , Hank!!! " … says Greg L.

RickyM2 , Go Cry some more. You have a BIG FAT SPOILED BABY in Kovalchuk and get used to losing.

Prust manhandle the bigger heavy weight and did not to bad for a small guy.

Nj is Stuiped for dumping its youth for a rental. Lou Lamorelli pulled a “Sather”..time to give it to Lou for being an idiot.

  62. carcards

“Obviously, everybody in the room gets pretty jacked up playing against the Devils,” Callahan said. “I think Hank was.
So, there lies the Rangers problem since forever.
Why don’t they get jacked up for every game!

  63. bull dog line

yes Orr is getting more ice time in Toronto. 15 seconds more a game. 6:45 for the leafs, and 6:30 last year for the Rangers. Orr is no factor on the ice, unless he is fighting, he brings nothing else.

  64. Agravaine

lol Ricky help with the zebras on our side? You guys had seven skaters on the ice at least three times with the offending player jumping on the ice going right to the puck… but there was no penalty so lighten up eh?

  65. hedberg

Ricky says the Devil fans didn’t know Kolvy could fight. That’s exactly why Devil fans suck take a look around the league and you will realize there is a great big game out there, learn the players, not a big or bright fan base in NJ. My point was as good as Fatso is and he is good just not as good as he thinks, he ALWAYS has a excuse and is always bitching and Hank and AVery are in his head. How many NJ fans are going to waste there $ buying a Kolvy jersey for 2 months. And here is the prediction Canada will not win the Gold as favorites because of soft goals by Maaaarty.

  66. ilb2001

Wow, wow. So that NJ fan is finally starting to show his real identity. Right after they lose to Rangers. How appropriate. He really tried to pretend that he is nice and soft spoken. Well, let me tell you what people with good hockey knowledge have been saying since that trade. You have one the best GMs in the league. Who knows that Brodeur is starting to show his age and NJ has a very narrow window to win another Cup. And he gave up a decent package to get Ilya. Took a chance. But I bet you that Lou, deep inside, knows that he has very little chance to come out from EC. Not against the Caps and the Pens. NJ’s defence is weak and very leaky. That’s the real reason. Enjoy.

  67. Jorek

Hust a thought for the people talking about twitter . . . how do you actually know the twitterer is actually who they say they are, Like when myspace was big there were fake myspace pages for players and fake facebook pages for players.

  68. NYRGuy

And I find it hard to believe Avery is on the ice late in the game just to take Kovy off his game. Honestly, I think he was on the ice because they needed someone strong on the puck to help them win the faceoff

You can’t expect another player to just go after Avery because of his words. That’s all on Kovy…like nobody else in the NHL uses words to get to people? Come on, lets be realistic here

  69. Agravaine

    new post

  70. Carp

    new post.

  71. ilb2001

NYRGuy- I doubt he was there for that purpose either. But at the end of the day, it was pretty dumb on Ilya’s part to take himself out of the game when his team needed him to score desperately. Grow up. Whatever was said, learn how not to listen if you care about your team.
