I don’t have a lot to say, or much time to say it. One of the disadvantages of not being on the long road trip is that things that happen out there are happening three hours later here. So the guys staying up to work on the story last night were doing so at 10 p.m., while I was doing it at 1 a.m. And, of course, if I got up at 10 a.m. here, they were still sleeping in at 7 a.m. there.
So I’m tired, and I’m trying to do the job of the departed Kevin Devaney Jr. (I told you about him leaving last week) and the job of Josh, 26, who’s out of town this week, and my own job, and the blog, and I’m pretty much out of gas. And it’s only Tuesday afternoon.
I will say this. I think the trade made last night was a good one in that it releases $3M per year from the salary cap the next two years. And maybe Prust turns into a legit NHL player/tough guy. He’s certainly willing. But Jokinen won’t be around after July 1, and he might not even be around after March 3. So I don’t expect this deal to have a major impact on the team going forward (although a rejuvenated Jokinen might provide a couple of months of good hockey playing with Gaborik … maybe).
I really think it will be unfair if Voros is removed from the lineup, or worse, from the roster, because of these moves. Limited as he is, he deserves to stay, and he has said and shown he will do anything to be part of this team.
I suspect more is coming … perhaps the cleansing of one of the albatross contracts on defense and the addition of a D-man or two. We’ll see. I don’t know if it’s imminent or not.
I do know that Glen Sather is going to address those lucky, rested, on-Pacific-time reporters in L.A. later. So if I’m not around—and I probably won’t be—maybe you guys can lift it and place it in the comments, with attribution of course.
I have a hoops game this afternoon, so I won’t be back until late evening. Therefore I’m happy that the game doesn’t start until much later and I’ll be able to see it. No guarantee I won’t be sleeping in my chair by the first period, though.
Thanks for hanging in with me. See youse later.
AFTERNOON UPDATE, 12:35 p.m.: Both Jokinen and Prust are expected to be in the lineup tonight, according to the Rangers.
