  1. Carp, I hope Matt Zaba is on the way to Colorado for insurance. Lundqvist is sick, and didnt look good tonight. Even if Henrik feels better Sunday (today) the altitude has made healthy people feel not so good over the years in Colorado. I know it is a long haul to get there, but could not believe he was not already recalled and on the way just in case. God forbid, what if something happens to Johnson?

  2. Well I just got home from the game. Not my greatest Ranger experience. My night started as my family & I walked right into a fight in the lobby of the arena. I mean punches being throw at me, over me ,all around me, between about 4-5 Ranger fans & a shit load of Yote fans. Fortunately my son got me out of the middle before I got tagged. Then the dumb ass Phx police try to throw us out for fighting. Not a great start to my evening.
Then the game started & that first period was a disaster. You saw it, I don’t need to tell you what happened.
BUT, I got to meet some of the guys from this blog. It was so cool to be sitting in my seat & having guys come up to me saying they are “boneheads” I got to meet NYRinPHX & his lovely wife Jenna & a guy named Will who told me he is a loyal reader but never posts. Even though we lost I gotta tell you I had fun.
My next game is Rangers/Islanders on 3/24 in MSG.
I hope I get to meet more of you guys.

  3. Sather's Wrapup on

    Drunk again, eh Carp?

Good Evening, Ranger Fans- from Phoenix. So now the NHL has expanded into Mexico? How DOES Bettman do it? I better stock up on Tequila while I’m here…

What are the Coyotes thinking of, by beating us? I had us down for two sure points at the start of the season. I thought they were our farm team fer Cripes Sake! I thought I was just sending guys to the minors. You mean I traded them? Dolan’s gonna be pissed when he finds out he doesn’t own them anymore. Maybe Maloney will give me a do-over…

Well, at least I figured out Torts game plan now! Fall behind early, that gives us plenty of time to catch up. By the time I get to Phoenix, we’ll be losing…I can’t believe that Labarbara would stick it to me like that. After I Prucha’ed him down to LA, too!

(singing) “Macho. Macho, Man. I’ve got to be, a Macho Man” Oh-oh. That’s Dolan. Hi-Di-Ho Big Guy! Did your Knicks lose to the lowly WIZARDS tonight? Man! They really stink! Just Awful! No. The lowly Wizards are awful… Tell D’Antoni I said Hi. (chuckle) There’s another box of Kleenex in my office if you need it. (click)

At least I’m still safe for now. It doesn’t matter how bad the Rangers were, D’Antoni’s gonna be taking the heat tonight. Sooner or later Jimmy D will find out though. Somebody will read the paper to him. So how do I put all this on Tortorella? I’ll come up with something. I’ve fired coaches more times than you all have had hot lunches.

Brash! Where is my Million Dollar insurance policy? Brashear! Here.. taste this for me will ya? I can’t take any chances nowadays. Muck brought it over for me. He just might be trying to become a GM again.

Brash? Are you OK? Speak to me! He’s not responding, not that he did very much when he WAS conscious… Geez, I’ve got to call 9-1-1! OMIGOD! I can’t remember the number…

I see they honored Teppo Numminen tonight in Phoenix. I never liked him. Whenever I met him anywhere I used to just say…“Hello Numminen!”

I can’t beat that Seinfeld reference, so I guess I’ll have to get ready for Colorado tomorrow.

    I’m a sad little Panda
    Uncle Glennie

  4. sorry about the carppy start to your evening Tony, but glad you met some boneheads. Hopefully your next game will have a better start and a better ending.

LMAO @ the blonde dude in Fists fo Fury!!!!!

  5. a good friend of mine coaches a ny high school hockey team. i’m going to the game tomorrow night. i’m really looking forward to watching some kids play with heart and passion instead of the catastrophe i’m used to watching when our boys take the ice

i’m really looking forward to watching some kids play with heart and passion
    Atta boy, Joe M!

  7. There’s a huge fire in some private house next to my building!! My whole place is in freaking smoke!! Horrible smell!! As if Rangers loss wasn’t stinky enough!!

  8. This team sucks. There are three, maybe four players I would keep and, sadly mdz is one of them and he’s almost guaranteed to do the Tyutin-girardi-staal regression shuffle.

Why is it that don maloney and JD seem like the happiest guys in hockey?

    This team sucks.

  9. Doodie Machetto on

Tony, we were pulling for you!

    Just some thoughts.

Drury: 2.145 million for four years.
Rozsival: 1.155 million for four years.
Redden: 1.8975 million for eight years.

  10. 9 Points in his last 14 games why the hell is Christenson not playing on a regular basis. He’s got soft hands and will work well with Gaborik. Torts is a freeken a-ole. Needs to keep set lines. Gaby Christ & Prospal, Dubie, Avery & Callahan, Anisimov, Drury and Lisin, & Voros, Boyle & Higgens. I’m almost hoping the Rangers keep on losing so the bastard is fired. RUNNING OUT OF TIME PEOPLE. BRING ON MESSIER, GRAVES & SCHOENNY

  11. Hey Tony from Az. Rangers-Islanders 3/24 is one of my games. Hope to see you then. Sec.336 Row F 5&6. The way we’re playing we’ll probably get our asses kicked that nite too. Unless there’s an unexpected change???

  12. Doodie Machetto on

In all seriousness, Kovalchuk would be a mistake.

Guys I would target if they bought out Drury, Redden, and Rozsival:

    1) Anton Volchenkov
    2) Dan Hamhuis
    3) Backup Goaltender (Price as important as skill: Turco, Dan Ellis, Ray Emery, Martin Biron, Peter Budaj, Alex Auld, Antero Niittymaki, SOMEBODY!)
    4) Zbynek Michalek
    5) Tomas Plekanec
    6) Steve Ott

Not all of them. Two of the defensemen, one of the forwards, and definitely the goaltender. I think you could get three of them with the 13 million in savings.

  13. I’m way too tired to read all of tonight’s comments, but just finished watching the game and it really sucks to see them play hard for 2 periods, especially the 3rd, just to lose because their 1st period was a joke. They’re an extremely emotionally unstable team…

Well on to Colorado tomorrow, hope the losing streak ends. Talk to u all in the afternoon

  14. Del Zotto -left off your recap. He cost them the game. Just want some what do you say -er “accountability”

  15. This team is so bad, they’re just getting boring. Sather and Torts should stop worrying about negativity around the team, and start worrying about no one caring at all.

  16. from Bruce Garrioch of the Ottawa Sun,

    • This could be the final season for Glen Sather in a dual role as president/GM of the Rangers. The belief is he’ll remain president with Mark Messier taking over as GM.

  17. RICK!!!!

    Kovalchuck isnt helping this team
The only thing that is helping them is the second the buzzer sounds at the end of game 82
    Priceless Chris! Well said.

Seriously though, Kovalchuk doesn’t fix their problems. A backup goalie doesn’t fix their problems either. They need a #1 center, a #2 center and a #1/#2 winger and a pair of top-line defensmen. Kovalchuk doesn’t fix all of those, and his role is one of the least important.

BTW. Last night wasn’t on Redden at all… MDZ/Girardi and ROzy’s penalties.

  19. I really don’t think this team is very good, but they could play better than they have been. I seriously think there are problems with the players. I don’t think much harmony in the room. There is going to be something happen soon. Trades, guys sent down, they are forced to do something. Sather is getting down to panic time.

  20. I was in the pool!! on

Rosival, Redden and Drury are the Albatross that will strangle Glen Sather with any luck.

  21. onecupin69yearsandcounting on

Ever since the gaborik fight when his teammates? stood idly by this team shows little life, not that it was a ball of fire before.
Maybe the high salaries pose an atmosphere of resentment and jealousy, maybe the high priced players think that “their sh-t_don’t stink”

Young players never seem to play to their potential, the team despite making the Playoffs 5 yrs in row still doesn’t show any upward growth, instead being on the verge to a Cup run they are always on the verge of collapse.

So the young players don’t fully develope , they seem to regress, the stars become stagnant , and the players who try hard are role players and can’t do the job.

So the system is broke from the TOP-Dolan and on down to the players.

  22. U can’t blame Chad Johnson for last night!! When u can’t score more then 2 goals a game u could have anyone in net and it won’t make a difference!!

  23. Leafs on the verge of a big trade!! I hope it’s not with the rangers!! They have no one I’m interested in!!

  24. Callahan 4 Captain on

Kicking Sather upstairs is not the answer. He needs to be completely exiled. I mean, who the hell needs his input in his post-GM era? Good grief, why is this organization so fearful of identifying problem areas, fixing them, and moving on? The stench of a dead rat in your cellar is more appealing than the odor from this man’s time here.

  25. The last time the Rangers had a defenseman make as many screw ups with guys running past the defenseman was when they put Dale Puriton and /or Stan Oso–lish on the left point.

  26. THE REAL Mikeynj on

that is what this team is

i bet you any amount of money the trades today the Leafs are doign we will be invloved somehow

    Die Sather you old F%ck!!
dosent matter, our season is over, and even if we make ht eplayoffs, YIPPEEE, first round exit again.

I really dont een care that there is another game on tonight.

Cant wait to see the AVs destroy us

  27. There are plenty of highly paid players on other teams who play with drive and intensity. Drury and Redden’s lack of personality and lack of talent have sucked the life out of this team, and no veteran is going to listen to Dubinsky or Callahan. Avery hasn’t played well enough, although his leadership skills are improving. Gaborik and Prospal are too new. As much as we thought Tortorella would be a breath of fresh air, he has in fact succeeded in destroying the defensive strength of the team and not improving the offense in the least. And he is not a good motivator for players — he seems to be destroying their confidence more than anything else. And beyond that, Sather needs to go away fast.

  28. Valiquette Has been bad in Hartford. I watched a game a couple of days ago, and he didn’t make through the first period. I don’t think he has a real good game down there. I hope not for his sake, but it looks like his hockey career may be at an end. I can’t see the Rangers bringing him back up, and if they did I doubt anyone would pick him up off wavers.

  29. Got home from work late. Saw the score was 3-0 and didn’t bother to see if there was an online stream of the game. Probably won’t bother to watch tonight either.

I’m getting tired of the “We just have to score more goals, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah.” No kidding?
