thanks Mako & Linda for the nice words (and everyone else who’s gotten laughs out of “Chris Drury” over the past few months), when I finally decide to retire the Captain Clutch character, I’ll let Carp know about it first and then I’ll reveal myself…maybe we can even treat it like MSG does the jersey retirements- “LoHud Blog Presents: Captain Clutch Night” lol

Happy New Year to all the Boneheads

  11. I think I mentioned that someone should email Brooks, and ask him to write about Sather. Just yesterday. Good work boneheads!!!

  12. onecupin69yearsandcounting.....and counting.....and counting..... on

I don’t know what took Brooks so long to spotlight sather.
Brooks is wrong in saying that sather has to “deconstruct” the team.
I would show sather the door asap,I would let him near the garden.
he’s right about the fat cats, even the so called future stars , dubi callahan ,staal, and others, they all live in manhattan ,dig the night scene and fan accolades and hockey is the last thing on their minds.
any sniff of a cup is miles away

  13. Name Avery the Captain. The embarrassment to Drury will be so great he will retire or demand a trade.

Change the “Potvin Sucks” chant to “Redden Sucks” embarrassing him into early retirement.

Just let Rozi die the slow painful death he is dying on the ice right before our very eyes.

Simple and effective changes the Rangers can pull off without trying to make trades (that are virtually impossible anyway).

  14. Happy New year to all you guys and girls. I really hope this one coming is very good to us all. I am sure Linda will find a good job, and hopefully the Rangers will continue winning.

  15. Fantastic Junior game last night. US couldn’t quite pull it off. The Rangers do a have a future. Kreider has awesome potential. Big, fast, physical, great hands, hockey smarts. He likes to hang out in front of the net and in the slot where he shows a quick release and high velocity. He drew penalty shots in consecutive games but, unfortunately, only converted the meaningless one against Latvia. Had he made it against Canada, the US likely would have won. Still you always know when he’s on the ice. He makes things happen.

Stepan is the team captain. He is the first line Center. Doesn’t excel at any particular phase but is always visible and very good on the PP and PK. Much bigger than I thought. Very good passer who wins battles along the boards. Very cool and doesn’t get rattled. Physical. Hard to tell how much he’ll score in the NHL as he hasn’t shown great moves or a great shot.

Bourke is a very scrappy undersized player who hasn’t shown much offense in this tournament but the fact that he is near the top in scoring in his Junior league is encouraging. He is the US’s best on the PK and his overall game is very feisty in the Callahan mode. A keeper for sure.

The biggest surprise has been Kreider who was considered to be years away from MSG but has proven to be much further ahead than anyone expected. He has an enormous upside, imo.

  16. Guys, I was at a family party last night. To watch the Rangers, I had to trick my nieces (ages 9 and 6, I think). They were watching cartoons on the only available TV. Luckily, they had a nice chess set in the room. So I taught them to play chess (with me facing the TV of course) and changed the channel to MSG when they were fully absorbed in the game. Am I a bad uncle?

    Happy New Year to all!

  17. Good morning and Happy New Year all! Mama was out with her mama last night, but got home in time to watch the 3rd period. Mama’s mama was a little put off my all the yelling and whooping from the other room, but thank heavens for a happy end to the year….haven’t read all your thoughts on the game yet, but I’m just gonna stay happy for now :)

    P.S. Thoughts on Christensen?

  18. onecupin69yearsandcounting.....and counting.....and counting..... on

And when sather is gone, we’ll be stuck with Messier.
    He’s my last choice.

  19. Also, I hope everyone was safe and smart last night. We don’t want Carp upset at the start of the year, especially when he’s got two live games to cover this week! Yay! In case you’re interested, his boss in a big Richter fan, too. First time in 25 years at LoHud I’ve experienced a sports editor who is also a big Rangers fan…whee! Things are looking up for 2010.
Hmmm, I’m pulling a wicky and talking to myself….back to coffee….

  20. “P.S. Thoughts on Christensen?”

Not bad for a guy they got for nothing. Unfortunately, they have too many guys like that. 3rd liners galore at MSG!!!

  21. 2010, and Staal is still soft. I especially liked the move last night where he dropped to the ice, and flopped like a fish.

  22. staal is going to be very very good. he is 22, have some patience.. he is there only shut down d man.

read brooks article also, if voros does not do the stupid hooking and holding penalties i say brashear is the first for banishment….i am not a fan of voros at all but he does care and will battle his hardest.

christenson looked fine, this team has so few skill players anyone who can help at all is valued. stepan looks real good to me apt description does everything good, nothing great. they say he is 6 ft or 6 ft 1 in. that should be sufficient. stepan is 1 yr away. kreider is 2, more upside but not as heady as stepan yet…

  23. just read the brooks tome, and am wondering why CaptainAmbien was not included with Redden, Rozsival, and Brastrap Legion of Gloom! Not only do the fat cats need to go, but yetipus needs to lead the parade out the door!

bulldog, I know I was drinking last night and missed it, but I’m gonna have to go watch the archive to see Staals fish flop! :-) And I agree, I dont’ think Mess is the answer at GM either.

  24. Not sure if anyone heard or cares for that matter, but Soundgarden announced last night that they are getting back together. Thank god, because Cornell’s solo stuff was awful.
