We better bring our hard hats and shovels to work on Wednesday night. It is going to be a fight to the finish. Always is against the Isles. Either that, or we will blow them out. :)

lohan-aves was good in montreal though. hes been less than stellar or his usual self so maybe, but i dont see him being the problem. if anything, you really cant bench d men if u only have 6. so at this point, it could be a combo of fwds like aves, cally, dru, higgins, brash,or boyle. none of the d were bad. maybe they had a hard time controlling the puck in their end and getting it out quickly enough, leading to a weak transition game, but it looks like whoever made the most mistakes last night or didnt do enough. i honestly had to watch on a crappy feed that lagged and was very grainy so i couldnt give ya a good enough analysis on most of the players. cally and avery, maybe dru. idk. who knows what torts will do. he'll probably bench valley!!

For once I thought JoeMich added reasonable insight with Dubinsky's habit of coasting into the zone on the rush, while that might be a tatic to allow the trailing winger to hit the right spot for a pass Dubi doesn't quite have Gaborik's hands or feet when it comes to making deft movements or exploding past a Dman. He needs to keep moving and use his frame to shield the puck to take it wide or cut into the middle. See his set up of Gaborik's first goal and he's much more effective when he steams through the blueline and causes the D to turn around to defend him down low thus creating the seam that Gaborik glided into for a prime scoring area.

"Gene Carr couldn't put the puck in the ocean if he was standing on the end of a pier" -- Bill "the Big Whistle" Chadwick 1973 WOR Channel 9 road game broadcast

" King, whadda about dis nu Swedish defenseman you have Ba-Ba-Ba-Bo-ya-ya-ya Salming? ..... "Well Bill this kid's alright when it comes to skating, but he's got to toughen up for the NHL; if you put a dozen eggs in his pocket, when he goes into the corner, he comes out with eleven unbroken... this is hockey, if you can't be 'em in the alley, you won't beat 'em on the rink."

The Big Whistle and Francis Michael "King " Clancy 1974, Maple Leafs Garden, between periods interview WOR saturday night broadcast

We will never see their likes again. RIP Big Whistle.

Brassiere was pretty decent last night I thought. Yeah Cally just seems like he just lost a little steam. Knowing his history of being the hardest working guy on the ice every night, lets chalk it up to a little post illness weakness. Dubi definitely isnt skating like he was. Could he mean Avery, who is a turnover machine?? Girardi could be a canditate too. Torts did not like that opening faceoff 3rd period tripping penalty.

yea linda- it very well could be dru, but i just dont think hes been bad enough to be benched. cally either. i think they havent done much offensively, and cally especially with the 2 breakaways, but dru wasnt bad enough to deserve a benching. its definitely not him. but hes awful close if he doesnt start scoring. its not like he even gets any good chances either. hes hardly ever in a position to score.in this type of offensive system, hes still gonna come out with 20g. thats it for him. average joe. prospal should be at least the other A. i think hes deserved it. gabby too.

lohan- its not u, i notice cally has been off too. doesnt look like hes got the energy he did to start the season. and hes never gone more than a game or 2 w/out being one of the best working players on the team. last 3 games hes been pretty average. drury average. i like what torts did with higgins, but you cant forcce a goal on this guy. hes gotta do it himself. he really had only 2 good chances last night. 1 was behind the net/side of net and almost caught labarbera off his skate, and the 2nd was a shot either behind the net or a rebound and higgins was standing right there for a bang in rebound and it hopped over his stick. i bet hes kickin himself for not cashing in on the numerous chancesw he had the first few games. he very well could be prucha'd or worse if he cant score soon. i think torts is reffering to girardi an higgins and maybe brash with the benchings. top line was great, 2ndwas usless again. 3rd was better, 4th ine actually scored. but brash sucked, higgins and girardi sucked. i dont think hes gonna bench cally. maybe though.

Lohan, i too was wondering if he meant Cally. He hasn't been putting the puck in the net, but he's always out there hitting someone (typically having the most hits in the game on the team) or making good plays. Maybe he is still not 100% back from the flu. I'd love it to be Drury, but we know there's no way the captain has his hiney benched or scratched for a game or two, and that is unfortunate.
