  1. WOW! I finally did it! I never knew why everyone always said first. Now I know. My apologies for insulting anyone who did it before.

  2. Any one know how many point the Rangers D men had last season. So great to see everyone contributing… That just impresses the hell out of me! Gilroy was much more aggressive this game. But is getting out-shined by MDZ, he’ll get his.

typing out the recipe for you….

  3. Is it? could this be our year?! Dubie keeps on proving he was worth every dime and the way he plays kind of reminds me of good ol number 11.

  4. ZzZz NYR ZzZz "HNIC !!! " ...says Greg L. on

Laurelllll!! Laurellll Come backkkkk ,come backkkkk to the blogggg. There you are , I knew ya could n’t stay away :)

  5. Mako,you’re awesome.

i have the game on hoping they pan up and show rick and josh, that’d be the perfect ending to the night!

MDZ is the best ever rookie defenseman
and deserves serious consideration on any all-time list

    He is on pace for:

    31 Goals
    51 Assists
    82 Points

His ice time is bound to increase so you can expect these numbers to actualy be much higher!

  7. Del Zotto has been very impressive so far but let’s wait before annointing him the next Leetch or Chelios.

  8. But seriously, it’s fun as hell to see to MDZ (as well as the other tikes) doing well.

I just dread to point when he hits the wall and everyone starts asking “what’s wrong with MDZ?”

    He’s 19! Holy Crikey!

  9. gettin ahead eh on

dubinsky reminds you of ole # 11. time to get the glasses checked don’t ya think. # 11 was an all time great my friend.

  10. LMAO @ them playing big girls dont cry when brashear went to the box! Our ORR must’ve loved that!

Rick must be overjoyed with extra innings!

dde, here’s hoping they are smart with MDZ and him ‘hitting the wall’ is a very short lived occurrence.

Mako, he is forever known as Rodan Blake now.

  11. I’ll tell you though, Dubi does remind me somewhat of Jagr with his strength on the puck along the boards -the way he shields the puck with his body

  12. You know it’s something Torts is very conscious of
A high proportion of DMZ’s minutes have been on the PP

  13. Not a great game. But I’ll take it. Nice to see Dubi snap out of it. And Hossa Lite actually scored.

    God damn it Yankees.

  14. Leetchhalloffame on

Great and exciting start to the season but has anyone seen the Chris brothers Higgins or Dreary?

  15. when did willie randolph start playin for the angels? wow that guy looked like him ! oooh rick!! you may be 20 minutes from leaving cold, wet yankee stadium!!! bobby abreu…isnt he about 700 now?

  16. sorry rick, maybe not. i feel bad for you being there in the crappy weather. maybe josh can go get ya some dunkin donuts hot chocolate.

  17. Another good game.
I think I’m changing my name to Staal Zotto…Whatcha think???
DZ is becoming one of my favorite players…He hits hard and uses the hip check. His passes and shot decisions are great. I keep thinking that if Rozi had that chance that DZ scored on…Rozi would have tried to dish the puck…
Gilroy is becoming less noticeable, but I think he is adjusting to the league, not knocking him at all. His defensive play has been pretty darn good.
    King Henrik just is…
    Dubi’s shot was great…freakin ripper!
Staal’s goal nice work…glad to see him bury one…
The Leaves remind me of last seasons Rangers…no scoring.
A team of 3rd and 4th line players.

  18. ZzZz NYR ZzZz " Leafs suck still !!! " ...says Greg L. on

Yo Staal Zotto , I think it’s perfect , could go with Staal & DelZ or just Staal/Zotto . Anyway ya put it , it will be better than the wart part , creeps me out every time.

  19. ZzZz NYR ZzZz " Leafs suck still !!! " ...says Greg L. on

Staal Zotto , kinda has a nice ring to it . Good choice!!

  20. ZzZz NYR ZzZz " Leafs suck still !!! " ...says Greg L. on

If Tort’s isn’t coaching this team , were not 7-1 . He is what makes this team tick. He is so good , he makes Renny look bad!! Renny is a good coach but what we need here in NY is a great coach. Ok , want some hype? Torts is front runner for the jack adams ,coach of the year! Holey hell batman!!

  21. I am not sure i agree with Avery and Cally on the same line. Yes they will have a great forechecking tandem, and yes they will have a ton of energy. I worry that the third line will become vanilla without one of them on it therefore losing some depth and difficulty in defending against. Maybe I am way off target here, but the third line just seems far less threatening without a hard charging in your face forward on it.

BTW is it to early to start growing my playoff beard?

  22. “I’m Dany F___ing Heatley ya know, I’m awesome”

Who the @#$$!! needs Heatley we have Michalek! Hat trick!

Thanks for visiting the videos guys. By the way you guys really don’t need that cancer in your locker room. Rangers are playing good without Heatley. Sure he’ll put some goals in
but he’s an individual. Play as a team win as a team.

One more thing, can you check Redden for a pulse out there…
I think he has Kovalev syndrome. Shows up when he feels like.

  23. GIFT OF GAB-orik ( Vinny V ) on

I’m spoiled as hell right now. The Yanks and Rangers do it again and win on the same day… now i’m counting down until the G-Men take on the Saints… big game.

The Rangers are simply on fire… want to see them do well against San Jose and then Jersey… that will make this start totally legit.

What in Holy Hell? I signed up for HD hockeystreams yesterday. Game time and I have this tiny-axx picture I’m looking at it and it’s no better than watching I’m A-NOID. My good friend in Paris says I can increase the video screen size by doing this or that. I don’t even see this or that. Something wrong here. Well, by the time I get my browser set right and the plug-in installed… plus a couple of restarts and a frozen screen, I might as well be using Linda’s COMCAST service. I, essentially, missed the game (I didn’t tune it right away). I’ll be ready for the Sharks tomorrow night, tho’.

Hey, kids, here’s a real life article by 26 yr old Josh!

Carp, do you have an article on the Yanks game? I can’t find it. You paid $12 on food and froze to death and didn’t get to write an article? What in Holy Hell?

  26. GIFT OF GAB-orik ( Vinny V ) on

    The Yankees win

Rangers took care of business. 7 in a row.

LET’S GO GIANTS!!! then my weekend of sports glory will be complete!

You have to believe this is really a new team. Last year’s team would have come out flat as a pancake against Toronto and found a way to lose the game. They didn’t play their best game but they won handily. The games they were supposed to win, the Rangers traditionally lost. I’m getting a good feeling about Torts and this team. LGR!

  28. great start this season, and unlike last years start, this one is not smoke and mirrors.
two spots, I see, that are going to need to be upgraded this season to compete for the cup.
1 like wicky has said many times, the Rangers are going to need a physical Dmen.
2 I think the are going to need another center. A play making type center, one that will allow Cally to become the scorer that he can be. Drury is not a play maker. one way to do this from within is move Prospal to center.
Who would you be willing to give up to get that physical Dmen? Girardi would make the most sense.

  29. LMAO @ the guy putting his phone down!

WOW, was that really OttawaGh0st? Best Heatley vids ever!

Puck Drops, on the hockeystreams site, after picking your game, look for STREAM RESOURCES and click the box under it. I usually watch the large stream so I can comment here at the same time. I only have the HQ right now, so maybe the HD is set up differently. I will ask the other guys here that have it if the HD box is set up differently. If that doesn’t help, just click the stream help link on the right side. Hope that helps some!! And if ya get all that fixed, just go to the archives link and you can watch the game there. I know it’s not nearly as fun as watching and being here at the same time, but at least you can watch the game.

Don Cherry actually looked ok last night!

Rick, have you gotten warm yet?

  30. thank you all for the support, im an atheist but my friend was a believer, lets hope hes in a better place

  31. Hank’s reaction to being crashed into (from the NYPost):

“You know, there are some small guys who have banged into me, so I guess that’s their way of trying to be tough,” Lundqvist told The Post following a 34-save performance that boosted the Rangers to an underwhelming 4-1 victory over the Maple Leafs to extend their winning streak to seven games. “But really, I don’t let that bother me. It gets me angry. And I think I play better when I’m angry.”

  32. Like Mako and I said at the same time yesterday, he needs to start whacking people like Billy Smith did.

Thanks, Linda. I think I am all set with hockeystreams for tomorrow night. I was having trouble toggling back and forth between hockeystreams and this blog to keep up and then the blog kept carping :) out on me. I was hockeystreams challenged. Part of my problem is that I have my laptop set up so I can work from home. My company wants us to use IE6! (Youtube practically reaches out and slaps me when I use IE6 on their site. lol) I also have Firefox installed but it didn’t have the plug-in needed for WMP. I know TMI! Heck, it’s raining. What else is there to do today?

  34. glad ya got hockeystreams all situated before tomorrows game Puck! I know exactly how frustrated you must’ve been because 4 hours without a connection yesterday was pure evil!!

It’s actually NOT raining here today! I am gonna go out and try to figure out what that strange bright orb in the sky is, then watch some football!

  35. It’s not smoke and mirrors but I’m not as convinced as others may be. They’re playing kinda crappy right now… But if they keep winning against the teams they should beat… It’s a good sign. Now they’ll have to step it up this week against some stronger opponents

  36. Bulldog is right on both counts. The d man priority is a bigger issue (no pun intended) by far. Who to give up is a good question….I still firmly believe that rozy needs to go for this team to improve anywhere. Getting rid of him is obviously tougher than most though, so if you get rid of salary, you probably need to get rid of 2 to 3 mil to get a vet tough guy, girardi and a forward like lisin/voros would seem to get it done. I still think the best thing to do is get rid of rozy in a package with sangs. On a side note, a guy like jovo (not my first choice) would be a good fit, not sure about his movement clauses, makes 6.5 mil a year and yo might be able to send a rozy/voros trade to rangers west to get him (draw back is you are now saddled with a 6.5 mil contract). I’d rather have a guy like witt or someone in his salary range (3 mil).

Course if we just had a rough tough d man like gaustad (i know, he is a forward)from buffalo to take care of guys in the crease we would not have any problems (i kid of course, but he did exactly what you have to do when someone runs your goalie)!

  37. Good morning, Carp! Did you survive the cold?

“blake looks like a cross between an albino and pterodactyl” HAHAHAHA!!!! Also, Don Del Zotto in Tiger Beat was priceless!!!

Had to celebrate the little man’s goal, but I think I overdid it a little last night. Buh.

  38. well, with no hockey on today (we’ve already watched the dvr of the usa canada womens game) and no desire to watch my raiders get beat again (dvr time), guess we are going to a minor league game today then sushi!!!

Have a crease clearing hard hitting physical d man day to you all!!!

  39. THE PUCK DROPS, that’s the kicker to the whole night. I wrote an early story about the Angels’ rotation, and a short sidebar on Jeter’s home run, and because the game went so late and blew all our deadlines, I wasn’t able to write anything else. In other words, I could have stayed home and done the same thing. Although I did help out some of our other guys, two of whom had to fly to California right after the game … poor SOBs.
