Official word on Dubinsky

Better late than never. That goes for Dubinsky and Sather, and to me for being late to the party after being stuck in traffic while Dubinsky was signing.
Here’s the official word:

RANGERS AGREE TO TERMS WITH
FREE AGENT FORWARD BRANDON DUBINSKY

New York, September 19, 2009 – New York Rangers President and General Manager Glen Sather announced today that the club has agreed to terms with restricted free agent forward Brandon Dubinsky.

Dubinsky, 23, has skated in all 82 regular season games in each of the last two seasons. In 2007-08, his first full season, he led all NHL rookies in hits (196) and ranked seventh among rookies in points (40). He tied for sixth on the Rangers in goals (14), ranked fifth in assists (26) and sixth in points (40). Dubinsky ranked third on the team in faceoff winning percentage (51%), winning 512 of 995 faceoffs. He also skated in 10 post-season contests, finishing tied for second on the team in goals (four) and ranked fourth in points (eight). Dubinsky was named MVP of the NHL YoungStars Game at the 2008 All-Star Game, notching two goals and an assist. He was also selected as the winner of the Steven McDonald award by the fans, given to the player who performs “above and beyond the call of duty.”

Last season, Dubinsky registered seven multi-point efforts, including two three-point performances. He led the team in faceoff winning percentage (53.6%), finished fifth in assists (28) and sixth in points (41). He ranked seventh in the NHL with 251 hits. Dubinsky also appeared in seven post-season contests, finishing with one goal and three assists for four points. He was selected to appear in his second NHL YoungStars Game at the 2009 NHL All-Star Weekend.

The 6-1, 205 pounder has skated in 170 regular season contests with the New York Rangers, recording 27 goals and 54 assists for 81 points, along with 193 penalty minutes.

  1. Lisin made a nice play and pass on that 2 on 1, parenteau has to bury that, but I guess thats why he’s an AHLer

  2. Lol, did anyone see PA Parenteau’s face after Artie scored. He was a little to excited, he had that orgasmic look going.

And what the fugg is with Lucic ? I didn’t think he was a puss. What tough guy goes after a rookie, how pathetic.

Lol, and am i dreaming or did Voros give Fata a black eye ??

Pretty good game so far, hopefully they don’t blow it like last night, and we can actually see a Ranger win.

  3. and, how many guys does it take to knock semenov down? apparently more than 2, i cant stand this team and there is no way their team and their goalie will do anything even near repeating what they did last year, 1st place in east and vezina are nowhere near the bruins’ sights this year

  4. I can’t believe Slats caved like this. Over 2.2 mil for 2 years? What was all that about no leverage?

  5. Andy Gross quotes from Dubinsky:

“Obviously it’s not the same as going through a rigorous camp with my teammates, I’ll be a little bit behind.”

On re-connecting with John Tortorella, who called the holdout “stupid:” “I think he understands that sometimes these things are part of the game. Obviously, he wasn’t happy about it.”

Obviously I’m a little happy this whole thing is over guys. Obviously. Seriously you guys, it’s so obvious.

  6. Man I really like Torts. Good man, great coach. Honest guy too… Sooooo happy he’s coaching the Rangers.

  7. Alex, there are a bunch of guys moving around on some cold, flat surface. Some of them look like bumble bees! There is this one cool guy, Anisimov, who wiggled around a bunch and put a little black thing in some net. That was cool! Then this other guy, Voros, hit his face against one of the bumble bee’s fists.

  8. Sally, look! I did it again!

omg they’d never hire me. i’d be cursin too much and calling sather YETI, or what does mike call him, slatipus maximus, on the air

  9. ok, i dont know about you guys, but I’ve about had it with “it’s me Glenn, long time listener!

    GO GET EM TORTS

  10. Haha! Was that helpful, Alex? Everyone else here knows a LOT more about hockey than I do, and I’ve been writing a paper this whole time. But I try…

  11. i wish MSG would stream the games and shows. I’d love to see the season preview. avery gets clipped and is NOT getting a penalty called against him?? has hell frozen over?

  12. That’s the FOURTH time Joe’s talked about how Dubinsky is in really good shape. Nobody’s telling HIM to keep his pants on.

  13. i figured it out sally…its the asterisks
i’ve been using to designate my typos before the grammar/spelling police do it…guess we dont have any of those here

  14. holy crap TR, you’re right! none of us has ‘yelled’ at the D during this game! There’s a strange disturbance in the force

  15. Tim Thomas is so overrated. The guy is 34, has one good season, and now he might start for the Olympic team. As between him and Ryan Miller it’s a no brainer – Miller. I’d be really surprised if his season this year is nearly as good as the one he had last year.

  16. Ugh. cannot listen to this commentary any longer.

Just got the new Pearl Jam Disk in the mail,
Taking Backspacer out for it’s inaugural spin!

    /Mutes TV/

  17. Well, um, icing happen when the puck come down, bang you know, before the other guys you know. Nobody there, you know. My arm go comes up then the game stop then start up

  18. With Dubinsky someone was saying with Kessel going, there was a chance that someone would try for him, and signing him on NYR terms was better than matching someone elses’ – still wish he had gotten less. The last ranger to hold out was mess, and dubi is no mess.

Wish that punk Lucic hadn’t gotten kicked out. I was looking forward to brash killing him.

  19. I had NHL gamecenter last year.. I regret it.. I hope they still don’t charge me lol

I think I’ll get center ice this year.. any idea if FIOS has games in HD?

  20. stompin tom connors should be played @ the games.
kinda like the 7th inning stretch in baseball.

PAP back in it now? lol
or does that keep byers around

  21. Pavel, i called AND emailed them and told them to cancel my automatic renew. Told them i was very disappointed in their service last year, that on 20 nights none of the games worked, and that I had no computer this season to watch the games on! Then, I went to hockeystreams and bought their premium package for $70. I’ll upgrade to HD probably

  22. ZzZz NYR ZzZz "Gaborik time soon!!!!… says Greg L. on

    Matteauuuuuuuuu …oops I mean Parenteauuuuuuuuuuuuu!!!

  23. beth

    he’s a fancy boy…

Congratz to the team for their first win of the err season – even though its pre-season.

  24. the only thing that is not cool about the hockeystreams is as soon as the game is over, the feed ends! i hope during the season i get pre and postgame shows.

and its no surprise that the gators beat the vols

  25. Hey I meant to say this earlier, but if any of you boneheads ever have a good idea of something for me to draw for Zetter Burger (or maybe here?), please let me know! You guys are kinda funny and probably have some good ideas.

  26. Yep

Was just going to comment on CJ. Vally SHOULD be worried. Played very well. He’s very calm and plays the shooter very well. Great angles.

  27. Yeah, their Johnson is sweet. One heck of a Johnson. I think should be afraid of that Johnson. Torts might be favouring Johnson. I think Torts has a good relationship with Johnson.

  28. i think johnson has played well in the games he’s gotten it. Nice glove hand the other night. seems pretty poised.

  29. Yeah !

We wants the Cup, We want the Cup, I want the Fox !

Anyway, it’s pretty safe to say Artie, and Gilroy are on the team. But who is the 6th d-man ???? Who knows. So far Del Z has looked a little bit better than Sangs, and Harry Pot, but Pott’s only played one game i think.

Hopefully monday we get to see Dubi, and Gabby. Really looking forward to seeing those two.

  30. Youngblood is on Encore if anyone is interested ;)

If I remember there is a Johnson on the Mustangs right? LOL

  31. i think johnson will fill in nicely
    hes not too big
    nice snug fit
makes everyone feel a lot more at ease
i think its a comfort thing
    oooh that chad johnson

looking forward to nothing but good things coming out of chad johnson.

  32. So – the R and R girls didn’t play today, and the Rangers were a better team without them.

Why are these multi-million dollar stiffs still around?

Dump them to Hartford, or better yet, release them and make some room for players who want to play.

It looks like Anisimov, Gilroy and Del Zotto are the real deal – the future looks a lot brighter.

It’s refreshing to see that the Rangers now have some players who are not afraid to drive to the net.

    Go Rangers!

  33. You guys are hysterical

Chad Johnson pulled out in the middle of the game …. Lundqvist finishes on top and gives the Rangers their well deserved win!

  34. ZzZz NYR ZzZz "Gaborik time soon!!!!… says Greg L. on

Vally ” legs open wide as a Valley” Vallaquette has a cool mask, nice size (tall)…but he had his chance last year and he blew it. I don’t like to say stuff negative twards our own …But Vally open his fat mouth about Avery and for a goalie who has never been a starter..he should have shut his big mouth!!! Patrick Roy said some stuff twards Roenick in the press but with Roy’s Stanley Cup rings plugging his ears..he didn’t hear what Roenick said. Roy was cocky but heck , He won the cup as a starter so he can talk.

Johnson looks solid and I would be very pleased if he took the job from Valley so Hendrik has a decent back-up. Our back up will be playing more so this spot is very important.
Having Johnsson make the team could be quite the problem on the blog here…with all the penis jokes starting to form.

  35. ZzZz NYR ZzZz "Gaborik time soon!!!!… says Greg L. on

ewwwwwwww , Carp will ban you all!!!!!!!!!!!!! hahahaha , have to say ORR , the semin all over Johnson could go down as a class-sick.

  36. ZzZz NYR ZzZz "Gaborik time soon!!!!… says Greg L. on

Ladies can’t talk Johnson , if so..email me at imasickpuppy.comm

  37. Who should make it: on

Gilroy, Anisimov, Grachev, Lisin, and Del Zotto (should get his 9 games at least before getting sent back to junior, but he should honestly stick around) need to make the team. Period.

    Semenov is OK too.

R&R should be buried and Torts is just the man to do it. No excuse for $11.5m to be tied up in those clowns when we finally look like we have a young D corps rivalling Chicago’s.

  38. It would be funny if after Johnson wins a game, the Garden plays that car commerical song, for Dodge or what ever it was.

It’s that one that goes like this….

“Like a rock, ohhh like a rock”

    I think it’s a Bob Seger song

That would be so funny. It’s like he won, so he’s so excited, he’s like a rock, muaha, get it. like a rock !

  39. You guys dont think they reason why Sather caved was because maybe Gaborik isnt as “healthy” as they are making it seem eh????

  40. Semin line was brilliant.
    Stick tap to Orr!

Reminds of a headline i read way back
when Alexander scored a natural hat trick:

    “Tampa cannot handle explosive Semin”

  41. This is obviously not the place to ask this but if anyone could help me out, I would greatly appreciate it!

I’m planning on going to MSG in October for a game. I’m trying to find tickets in the 100 level, seems like the TicketExchange is the best place to look (right?). Here are the main questions: In the sections, would Row A be the 1st row or the last? Also, do the numbers of the seats go from left to right or right to left (presuming we are looking at the ice).

    Thanks!

  42. No Mako,

I think he caved because Kessel went to Toronto. With that option off the table, I think this was a forgone conclusion.

  43. Was anyone else shocked when Kotaliks goal went in? It was not a shocking goal…but it’s just been so long…

  44. Poor Prucha,

How were they going to fit him under the cap with HIS asking price? They would have had to have moved Rozi for the money he was asking.

  47. Is there any chance whatsoever that we could deal Rozsival before the start of the season? Also, I know we are way up against the cap, but once Gaborik gets hurt, his $ won’t count against the cap.

  48. NYRGUY

At this point i highly doubt it. Torts is saying he wants another Vet, so i don’t know if he’s willing to dump one. Sad but true. Next season, i could see it happening, but i don’t know aboot this year.

I hope im wrong though. Between him and Dredden, i don’t know which is worse.

  49. looks like the 13 forwards are set(no Grachev, and no Byers), question is which 7 Dmen make it. I think Potter goes back down, and Semenov makes the team. Last spot is between MDZ, and Sangs.

  50. He has to be dumping somebody. he just gave up $750,000 in cap room today with Dubi.

He is gonnma dump DZ not becuase its whats best for the team, its whats best for Glen. I hope I am wrong
