Game Of The Century!
OK, so perhaps that is overstating it but tonight’s matchup with the Flyers is for all the marbles. Yes, technically they can still get into the playoffs even if they lose tonight, but clearly sewing up the berth with a game to spare avoids that sour air of desperation in Philly.
Don’t try telling that to John Tortorella. He insisted before the game tonight that this game is the same as any other, and the same for the players.
“They’re ready to play,” he said. ”…I consider all games important.”
When he wasn’t being testy—when a reporter walked in late he turned to a PR rep and suggested that the door be barred once his presser starts—he did reveal his lines. Tortorella said he liked the way the offensive lines were Avery, Gomez and Antropov; Naslund, Drury and Callahan; Dubinsky, Korpikoski and Zherdev and Sjostorm, Betts and Orr, and defensively it will be Staal and Girardi, Morris and Mara and Rozsival and Redden.

And Cuthbert gets Avery’s jersey after the game, and forgives him, and they make out, and Phanuef cries on Iginla’s shoulder, and that causes Iggy to feel all weird, and he doesn’t show up for the game, and the Flames lose, and the Nucks win the division.

What a game! Just got home and read every comment haha. I saw Jane after the game, wanted to give her a big old hug but had to control myself. I was really impressed with the way, in the last 5 minutes of the third we took it right to the Flyers never letting them get anything going. I still would like to score an actual goal every once in a while in the 3rd but Ill take 2-1 any day. Is it ironic that a Renney score gets us in to the playoffs?? Built to win 2-1 games. Maybe… Oh yea, and WHAT a save from Hank when we needed it. After that, I felt that things were going our way. Bring on Beantown or the Craps! LGR!

Hank CAN stand on his head, but they won’t make the offense score goals (the Rangers have scored just 6 in 4 games against Boston).
Hank CAN also stand on his head against Washington, against whom the Rangers have scored 11 goals in 4 games. Based on the Rangers weakness, offensive depth, and the strengths of the other teams (Boston is a defensive juggernaut too powerful for the Rangers forwards, Washington an offensive power-house but with extremely susceptible goaltending) you gotta just play Washington and hope Hank can stand on his head. If they play Boston, Hank can stand on his head all he wants… they still won’t score any goals for him.

I am very satisfied the guy finally showed up. I give him a lot of credit the past… ummm… 2 games (let’s not get carried away, he’s had 2 good consecutive games). Nonetheless, I do give him props for that and I’m happy he’s done a little something. That being said, will he continue to be the silent Captain in the playoffs or can he continue as this supposed ‘clutch’ captain for which the comments give me agita nearly everytime i read this board.
He can make or break himself a Broadway career these next couple weeks (and maybe beyond).
Maybe we will see a new offensive Rangers team in the playoffs…lol can’t say that with a straight face. But you can have hope at least, anything can happen.

I remember the first year they did it was the 99-00 season when they had Kevin Hatcher and Fleury and Quintal – I remember a drunken, hostile crowd jeering and booing a heartless team as they tried to give their jerseys away to kids. That ceremony is certainly much better than it was.
