Rangers practice, no foolin’

Sidd Finch and Bernhard Holden have been put back in the trunk until the next April Fools. (Gotta love Carp!) But for real, Michal Rozsival was on the ice today, paired with odd-man-out Aaron Voros on the line drills.

When he got back to the locker room, Rozsival said his left knee felt fine during the straight skating, but that he could feel a bite on fast stops and pivots.

Rangers coach John Tortorella said he would make a decision on whether or not Rozsival will skate against Carolina after talking with doctors seeing how his defenseman feels later today.

Tortorella had the defensemen wearing green jerseys today, while the first two lines — Avery-Gomez-Callahan and Zherdev-Drury-Antropov wore blue. Sjostrom-Dubinsky-Naslund and Korpikoski-Betts-Orr wore white. Potter skated with Mara, Girardi with Staal and Morris with Redden.

Tortorella said he thought backing off some of his defensive schemes, the pinching, had helped during the 3-0 win over New Jersey last Monday.

The big topic was Carolina, which has won six strainght (nine straight at home) and is two points ahead of the Rangers in the Eastern conference standings. The good news is that the Rangers are very much in this playoff race, and they know that. There are five games left — Carolina, Boston, Montreal at the Garden and then a home-away split with Philly, with everything on the line.

Oh, and Knicks assistant Allan Houston watched practice today, and said it was the first time he’d ever watched the Rangers even though they have practiced on opposite sides of the same hallway for several years now. Maybe it’s the start of an exchange program — wonder if Antropov can dunk?

Kaspar, you try to have a little fun …
Well, at least we played nyrblog. they bought it.

Oh, apparently Jim Dolan was really, truthfully, at practice today. I was not.

  2. Jane, I know you wouldn´t make an april fools joke with a german :)

Wish you guys all happy discusions…

  3. BillyDeeWilliams on

What I’m really liking about torts is his willingness to change his scheme, as noted by Jane above. He realizes that some of his defensive setups aren’t working as well as he wants them, so he lays off and it works. Nice to see a coach willing to make the changes necessary to win, rather than forcing the players to keep doing it the same way over and over.

  4. Jane
what is an “Aaron Voros” anyway?

I’ll have fun…put some blue ink on my bosses phone receiver…should be some howls later!!

  5. “Rozisival said his left knee felt fine during the straight skating, but that he could feel a bite on fast stops and pivots.”

    Yes, Rozsival bites.

The audio clips are a great feature. Rick and Jane, you guys are doing a great job. Thanks!

  6. That was one thing I never understood about Renney… his inability or unwillingness to change what seems to be a failing path. I like that Torts is adjusting…

and Renney’s line changes weren’t adjustments we all learned the source of those long ago…

  7. “Kaspar, an Aaron Voros is the single greatest hockey player ever born’
    Tom Renney

Now maybe..but you used to always say it was called a Blair Betts

  8. I have been critical about Tortorella – especially after the two losses. I will say that the criticism is based on his ego in not using Zherdev in the shootout and limiting the entire defense against Pitt to basically 4 guys.

On the other hand, as pointed out by BillyDeeWilliams and Agravaine he has shown (and shared) his strategy on how to make adjustments that acutally improve as in the win against the Devils. I think that is a huge plus.

  9. Rick…I just watched The “Donna Chang” episode on Seinfeld
last night….has to be the alltime best…

This has Kramers boxers to jockeys to no undies
It has Frank’s “You have no eye for fashion!”
“if I like thier race…how can that be racist”
    “why didnt jerry say hello!”
    “I’m frank costanzes lawyer”
    “Queens? full of mosquiotos”
    “The Rines must be crossed”
    “you know you’re not chinese”
“you gotta get off the jockeys right away!”
    “I knew it was Elaine!!”

  10. JAY

Zherdev hasn’t scored in the shootout in a while, i don’t blame him for not putting him there, and Freddy Shoes as a couple of game winners, and Drury scored the last game winner. Now Gomez, im not sure aboot that move, but Nicky Z was probably his next shooter.

  11. Allan Houston on

What dem honkies be doin with dem sticks out there?

    where the ball at?

    who dis redden fool?

  12. Kaspar, plus … Jerry: Oh. I have to move now” after Kramer dumps all his underwear on the table.

    plus, “I was duped!”

    plus, “Good cape weather.”

  13. No Country For Old Rangers on

I would have to respectfully disagree.

    My personal favorites include:

The Jimmy (#1 in my book, George starts talkin in 3rd person to emulate jimmy, is also suspected of theft by yankees, great stuff)

Puerto Rican Day Parade (great episode, chock full of controversy, watch it if you can find it)

    Fusilli Jerry

and what self-respecting Rangers/Seinfeld fan could leave out the Face Painter? All time classic! the DEVILS!!! the DEVILLSSS!!!!!!

  14. ——————————————————————————–
Cosmo Kramer: You’re wasting your life.
George Costanza: I am not. What you call wasting, I call living. I’m living my life.
Cosmo Kramer: OK, like what? No, tell me. Do you have a job?
    George Costanza: No.
    Cosmo Kramer: You got money?
    George Costanza: No.
Cosmo Kramer: Do you have a woman?
    George Costanza: No.
Cosmo Kramer: Do you have any prospects?
    George Costanza: No.
Cosmo Kramer: You got anything on the horizon?
    George Costanza: Uh, no.
Cosmo Kramer: Do you have any action at all?
    George Costanza: No.
Cosmo Kramer: Do you have any conceivable reason for even getting up in the morning?
George Costanza: I like to get the Daily News.

  15. the face painter bugs me because the games they show are at NJ and it’s supposed to be at MSG, and when the Devils score the siren sounds.

My faves: The Limo is an all-timer. The backwards episode (was on last night). Kramer and the Deli slicer. And the Marine Biologist, Kramer is priceless at the end of that one.

CCCP, we do need some hockey. It’s bad to have multiple days off at this time of year.

  16. Hey No country

usually the last great one I watch is the all time best

PR Day parade was banned…i wonder if its on the season DVDs???

but…the guys are right…back to hockey

who do you want to face ( if we make it)??

    Bruins, Caps, or Devils

I see no way of knocking off Caps in first round…so I take one of the other two…devils first

  17. carp

You think this is bad? Wait until the offseason after we win the Cup this year… talking about multiple days w/o hockey!

  18. bull dog line on

Bruins! they are young, inexperienced , and could panic if the Rangers were to get ahead in the series.

  19. Kaspar

I’ll tell you who I DONT want the Rangers to face in the playoffs. THE PENS!!! They have to play against the refs and Cindy Louganis.

  20. No Country For Old Rangers on

If the Rangers have showed us anything, it’s that they can win or lose against any team, be it the red wings or the islanders.

I like NYRs chances against the Devils and I’d prefer to play them as opposed to BOS or WAS

  21. I just think its AO’s year to go deeper into playoffs…cant see us winning a first rnd series

Bruins are young but played habs to 7 games last year
Devils could go either way..kill or be killed

and I think the Pens can beat any of them to be honest; especially with the refs on their side…like MAKO said

  22. I’m with Mako I just really don’t want the Pens… but I really believe it doesn’t matter because if we face and get through the first round it will be the Pens in the second or third… I am amazed they didn’t win last year… its kind of really disheartening because I do try and be positive with sports… I just can’t here…

  23. bull dog line on

The Bruins would be the favorite in any first round series. The pressure would be greater. The Devils have the revenge factor, and the Ranger could not match Washingtons talent.

  24. KASPAR

It’s on season 8 or 9. But it’s there, i watched it a month ago. Why is it banned ?

I like the episode “The Library”, with that book cop, Bookman. “That’s like an ice cream man named Cone”. Love Kramer !!!

Go Rangers. BTW, i fell for that stupid April Fools day crap before. Not funny !!

  25. I think Broduer is 2-14, in his last 16 starts against Nyr dating back to last season, regular season, and playoffs included. He lost all three games this season against the Rangers, and he lost seven last year, and won a single game, along with a singe playoff game, and lost the other four.

    That’s interesting.

Who knows, maybe the Devs are softening up. And i don’t wanna say Nyr is getting harder, cause that would just sound plain wrong. Like a threesome with an old guy, a young guy, and a chick. Like Megan FOX !!!!!

  26. Yeah. I hope they avoid the Pens at all cost! I would rather any other team in the EC. Even Washington I wouldnt mind. Thier goalies & 2 & 3 pairing of Dmen are their weakest links. So, they are definitely beatable.

  27. Who’s complaining about days off?

    I love days off!

Remember when we got spanked around a couple games earlier this year? I gave the team the next day off so they could really think about the types of things we made St. Louis think about. Don’t try to wrap your head around that one too much. It’s just something you get, or you don’t. And I’m fine with that. We’re all here for one purpose, and that’s to let Chris be OK getting one point, night in and night out.

    Where’s Pearn, I need a refill?!

  28. Funny… we are choosing our first round opponent as if there are no more rounds after that! Ok then…based on that, who do we want to play in the second round? Or third round? Or who would be better opponent for the Rangers if we get to the finals?

I say… if we are not getting passed first round i will not post a single thing until the new season! That’s bold…I know! LOL

P.S. Staal Wart I know all ice is frozen lol it just sounds cool! Frozen Ice….

  29. I have never watched a James Bond movie

    A Star Wars movie

    or one episode of Oprah

Only because my son was little and I took him to see kindergarden cop and some other christmas movie…or else I’d have never seen a movie with Arnold in it

  30. CCCP, yeah, I could see a bit of a down time between the parade and the draft.

If I were you guys, I’d want to play a team that hasn’t been there much … like Atlanta a couple of years ago. And not Pitt. But beggars can’t be choosers, and the Rangers should, at this point, just be worried about not finishing ninth. That’s worse than facing Ovechkin.

I don’t think I’ve ever seen that “banned” Seinfeld.

I have never seen American Idol, Dancing with the Stars or Survivor. And Jerry has never seen Melrose Place (or has he?).

  31. CCCP
If you dont like Seifeld’s stand-up act you probably wouldn’t like Jerry, Elaine or even George at times but…Kramer and Frank Costanza are not “seifeld-like” in any way…they’re stand alone lunatics

The PR day parade I beleive is not shown on TV anymore because they burn the flag..upset somepeople

you’re right…I shouldnt be geting ahead and worrying about a playoff opponent wen we could finish 10th!!!

  32. Jive

Back in the day… I used to work for a limo service… we had an account with NBC… I drove Jerry a few times… neither time I found him funny… in fact I found him very rude and disrespectful.

  33. CCCP

    Thats a Show!

    He took a limo, he’s rude, disrespectful…thats a show!

    Cereal famine…couldnt get a bowl anywhere….

Cannot wait…been drinking Sprite like its going out of style…a bottle a night

  34. Kaspar,

My thirst would be quenched by making regulation wins 3 points, overtime/shootout wins 2 points, and overtime/shootout losses 1 point so life would make more sense.

  35. …either that or just wins and losses like every other major sport with a network TV deal…hint hint

  36. MAKO
Cannot wait…been drinking Sprite like its going out of style…a bottle a night

Yikes – how about a change of pace like Sierra Mist ;)
    Very refreshing!! :P

  37. “Yikes – how about a change of pace like Sierra Mist ;)
    Very refreshing!! :P”

    I live in Vermont
I only shop in general stores

its Sprite, Coke or motor oil

  38. “MAKO

I only shop in general stores

its Sprite, Coke or motor oil”

Damn, the mist doesnt make its way up there? We are all gonna have to take up a colletion here and send you a case buddy ;)

  39. no Arnold movies… I could see that except no Terminator????

when I was a kid, like fourteen or thirteen I spent one summer and pretty much watched either Terminator or ALiens (there were some other movies in there maybe Tombstone…) I would wake up at about six am and put one of those movies on… still love Terminator…

  40. I love Curb and Larry David. Everybody tells me that I’d like Seinfeld but I never watch. I was never a fan of his stand up and it carried over to the show. I also never watched Friends, any CSI, Cheers, Simpsons, ER, NYPD Blue, Survivor. I will watch a movie, that I love, 20 + times.

  41. Agra
No terminator…serious; guy freaks me out…body and voice

my girlfriend never watched infeld until this year…but even now she says she hates Jerry’s voice..”he sounds like a whiner I cant stand that!”

you’ll be happy to know every time she says that I say “how can you not like him?”

    We need a game…no?

  42. 22,
I don’t find Seinfeld to be funny, I watch for George, Kramer, Mr. Costanza, and Jerry’s parents are funny esp. his dad.

    Elaine: You’re bald!

George: No I’m not. I was bald.

  43. George’s speech at the end of the Marine Biologist episode is my all-time favorite Seinfeld moment. Classic episode.

Agra, do you watch the Terminator Sarah Connor Chronicles at all?

  44. Richtersgirl on

Even if you don’t like Jerry Seinfelds stand up you hhaavveee to watch the show Seinfeld. No other comedy has ever come close to the consistency of that show.
I LOVE Friends but there were a series of ups and downs in that series. Friends at its best though was just as good as Seinfeld.

  45. Johnny LaRue on

Yeah well I don’t trust this guy.

First he re-gifted, then he de-gifted, and now he’s using an upstairs invite as a springboard to a Superbowl sex romp!

  46. “No, no, no, no. This is exactly how you said it was goin’ down. You said a mailman I know… and YOU’RE A MAILMAN I KNOW!!!”

    Oh, Let’s Go Rangers!

  47. Jerry- “What’s the new job?”
George- “Oh, it’s great! It’s in sports.”
    Jerry- “Knicks…Rangers?!?!?”
    George- “Playground equipment.”
Jerry- “Welcome back to the show….”

  48. “Let me ask you this… Is there any Tampax in your house?”
“Well, I’ll tell you what you got here. You’ve got yourself a girlfriend.”

  49. I feel so left out when y’all start doing the Seinfeld thing…

Examiner… no I don’t watch Sarah Chronicles I watched one episode, the first, and decided it wasn’t my cup of tea… but I’ve been told I should give it another chance… I am looking forward to the movie with yummy Christian Bale in it though!!!

  50. can we make the playoffs beofore we talk about what teams we match up with. i dont think you all realize how tough these next 5 will be. florida has 2 with atlanta. they play wash last game who might not need the game for anything.

  51. btw… Jane while waiting for the page to load I noticed the second time you wrote Rozsival it didn’t quite come out right… but its understandable with his name…

  52. Johnny LaRue on

Now did you put the top on or did they put the top on?

No, they put the top on.

And you didn’t make the top did you? Suzie, go down to Java World and bring back a cafe latte. We’re gonna run some tests on that top.

  53. Heres what I’d expect to see in the playoffs assuming we get there

    1st: NJ
    2nd: Boston
    3rd: Pitt
    Finals: San Jose

  54. “who told you ta put da balm on”
“I didn’t tell you ta put da balm on”

You want a brilliantly written and hysterical show. Watch Frasier.

  57. Rangers Examiner:

    For you:

George Costanza: The sea was angry that day, my friends – like an old man trying to send back soup in a deli. I got about fifty feet out and suddenly the great beast appeared before me. I tell you he was ten stories high if he was a foot. As if sensing my presence, he let out a great bellow. I said, “Easy, big fella!” And then, as I watched him struggling, I realized that something was obstructing its breathing. From where I was standing, I could see directly into the eye of the great fish.
    Jerry: Mammal.
    George Costanza: Whatever.
Cosmo Kramer: Well, what did you do next?
George Costanza: Well then, from out of nowhere, a huge tidal wave lifted me, tossed me like a cork, and I found myself right on top of him – face to face with the blowhole. I could barely see from the waves crashing down upon me but I knew something was there. So I reached my hand in, felt around, and pulled out the obstruction.
[George reveals the obstruction to be a golf ball]
Cosmo Kramer: What is that, a Titleist?
    [George nods]
Cosmo Kramer: Hole in one, huh?

    LETS GO RANNNNNGERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  58. Jerry: Oh, come on, just tell me your code already. What is it?
George Costanza: I am not giving you my code.
Cosmo Kramer: I’ll bet I can guess it.
    George Costanza: Pssh. Yeah. Right.
Cosmo Kramer: Oh, alright. Yeah. Uh, let’s see. Um, well, we can throw out birthdays immediately. That’s too obvious. And no numbers for you, you’re a word man. Alright, let’s go deeper. Uh, what kind of man are you? Well, you’re weak, spineless, a man of temptations, but what tempts you?
    George Costanza: Huh?
Cosmo Kramer: You’re a portly fellow, a bit long in the waistband. So what’s your pleasure? Is it the salty snacks you crave? No no no no no, yours is a sweet tooth.
George Costanza: Get out of here.
Cosmo Kramer: Oh you may stray, but you’ll always return to your dark master, the cocoa bean.
    George Costanza: I’m leaving.
Cosmo Kramer: No, and only the purest syrup nectar can satisfy you!
    George Costanza: I gotta go.
Cosmo Kramer: If you could you’d guzzle it by the gallon! Ovaltine! Hershey’s!
    George Costanza: Shut up!
    Cosmo Kramer: Nestlé’s Quik!
    George Costanza: Shut up!

  59. George Costanza: I have a bad feeling that whenever a lesbian looks at me they think “That’s why I’m not a heterosexual.”

  60. “I hate asking for change. They always make a face. It’s like asking them to donate a kidney.”

Friends, Seinfeld, Married With Children…..Full House !!!!

I never seen Curb, only a little bit, it’s seems funny , but i like Seinfeld better.

He does stand up in the beginning, but that ended around season 4 or 5. It’s really funny, you should check it out, one of the seven times it’s on. No need to rush though, it’ gonna be on TV until the Earth blows up. It is considered one of the top five best shows of all time. Number 1 to me.

  61. I put a six hour tape in,that should cover the expeirment, your arrest and about half your trail.

  62. Wow, we’ve devolved into another Seinfeld conversation.

Believe it or not, George isn’t at home; please leave a message at the beep. I must be out, or I’d pick up the phone. Where could I be? Believe it or not, I’m not home!

  63. MAKO – I really hope you’re reading those somewhere and don’t remember those whole pieces of dialogue from the show, though I could probably do that a few years ago when I was watching more regularly.

  64. jerkins perkins(carps nephew) on

wow cindy just kicked the puck in and they didnt even review it. parise got smacked with a stick, no call, etc.. you could go on all day. i hate pittsburgh, i hate the penguins, and the refs. as much as i hate the devils and brodeur, i hate the penguins worse, almost feel bad for brodiva, ha, naw

  65. jerkins perkins(carps nephew) on

chico is cryin worse than cindy!! hes right though when is the league gonna stop this bs!

  66. jerkins perkins(carps nephew) on

ohhh damn, you gotta be kidding me!!! the pissberg fans are chanting marty marty!!!, they cant even get their own chant. they have to steal ours!!! losers!, martys our whipping boy!!!

  67. they showed a shot of crosby after he kicked the puck in and he was smiling. He knew it should have been disallowed. What a clown. Does he wear lipstick or is it just really red lips?

  68. jerkins perkins(carps nephew) on

just switched over to the isles -craps game, i sware as soon as i turned it on, joe benumbnuts said “viktor kozlov is comin up on 200 tallys in his career” i wanna smack this guy!!! can he say goal? or assist? no hes gotta be a doc emrick wannabe

  69. jerkins perkins(carps nephew) on

ctrain- he gets botox lip injections too so when he pouts, the refs get turned on.

holy crap macdonald just robbed semin twice, gotta be the craziest save of the year, or one of them.

  70. Terminator Salvation trailer looks pretty f’ing good! Christian Bale is one of my favorite actors! Has anyone seen “Empire of the Sun?” what a great movie…

  71. jerkins perkins(carps nephew) on

empire of the sun. yea that was christian bale when he was like 12. still has the same face. good movie… damn mike green scored a pp. tie game. this guy is so good. why cant we give sanguinetti a shot? i hope to see either him or del zotto next season. watching guys like, green gonchar, markov, it just makes me crazy that we have wade redden. why sather? why? lol

  72. jerkins perkins(carps nephew) on

ohh and did i mention streit? did he really choose the islanders over us?? i bet not. i bet sather probably passed on him for redden!

  73. ok this is in case Sally stops by

you may now go back to your seinfeld extravaganza and movie previews…and yes, the Terminator movie looks awesome. Also looking forward to Wolverine.

Wouldnt it be nice if Cindys lips deflated? Did she seriously kick a goal in and they counted it? That is freakin ridiculous! Man, I seriously hope that no matter HOW HARD Bettman and Co. try to give him a Stanley Cup victory, I hope it never happens!!!! That would be the ultimate EF U to the league from all the other teams in the league, and all the other players in the league who are probably as fed up with his mug as most fans outside of pitt. They are just too nice to say it lol!!

  74. pittsburgh needs to stop winning, although it is funny that the devils are sucking so horribly right now

  75. also..if we win against carolina, we’ll still be behind them in the standing by virtue of less wins :( sucky

  76. True Fans Bleed RW&B on

I’m sorry, i just checked out a stat and I’m getting back on my soap box again (sorry Beer Me!, JJP, LI Joe, all…)

But why does captain clutch, Mr. two-way center, our $7.3million big-money center have 2 GWG?!

    Gomez… 7 GWG!
    Dubinsky… 7 GWG!

Add to that, Drury is minus-11! OK?! Case-closed. Guy’s a chump, maybe he had decent years elsewhere but in NY he’s a Freakin’ waste!!!

  77. From Phoenix Coyotes website:

-Al Montoya made 23 saves to earn a shutout in his first NHL game, Mikkel Boedker and Shane Doan scored a goal each, and the Phoenix Coyotes beat the reeling Colorado Avalanche 3-0 on Wednesday night.

Montoya, recalled from the AHL on March 23, led the Coyotes to their third win in four games.

  78. That POS kicked that puck in!!! Its clear as day. That is the EXACT reason why Im going to PRAY the Rangers dont play the Pens.

  79. mako i hate crosby, but he redirected (purposely) the puck into the net, which is not illegal in the game..he didnt make a kicking motion

  80. hey guys, i’m not trying to spam or anything but i’ve been reading this blog and the comments for a long time. i’m a member of a message board called thenhlarena.com. it is a fansite where fans from all 30 nhl teams get together to talk about their teams and stuff. we also sponsor game day threads where fans of the two teams can discuss the game going on. only problem is there are not many ranger fans on the site. we all know the rangers have the greatest fans in the world, we just need some more of those great fans to help us take down the flyer and devil fans that are trying to rule the board. so if you find some time, please come check out the board and maybe sign up and join us in our game day threads during these important last few games for the rangers.

  81. jerkins perkins(carps nephew) on

cmon guys lets go crash rangerfans party!!!!!

rob, crosby made a distinct kicking motion after it hit his skate, but the thing that made it a bs goal was that it wasnt even reviewed.

linda- that would be almost as good as the rangers winning their next cup! i would love it if pissberg does get to the finals, that they face the lowly blue jackets or blues and lose!!

  82. jerkins perkins(carps nephew) on

truefans- drury only has 2 gwg???? i know he got the ot winner in chicago, but only one more besids that? i remember that reseason game in europe for the victoria cup, how drury got so heated up and was yellin at his team and scored the 2 nice goals to come from behind and win, it looked like he thought we were playing for the stanley cup!!! why doesnt he do that now?? and also, DIRTY RYAN CALLAHAN scored the clutch game winner on a sweet move on a breakaway. what a season this kid is havin. hes got 21 g this year. dru has 20, but i thought girardi scored against jersey? still not acceptable for our captain and supposed clutch scorer to only have 2 gwg this year. why couldnt he have not scored on us in the playoffs with 7 seconds left??? does anybody remember who dru played with in buff? was it vanek, afinogenov(the grey alien), hecht??? who was his linemates? he got 37 goals that season. he’ll never ever come close to that in ny the rest of his 4 years left here

  83. jerkins perkins(carps nephew) on

i’ll join rangerfan, i’ll start the chant in the chatroom!

  84. I know someone already said this, but I pretty sure I don’t want to face Cindy and the Pens in the first round. They are firing on all cylinders, and have the refs and the league on their side as well. Did you see Sutter completely LOSE his shit on the ice last night?

  85. I am starting a petition to remove the Pittsburgh Penguins, the entire team and organization, from the league. Anyone care to sign? :)

  86. Devils are reeling. They look terrible. I can only stomach a few minutes of them at a time, but I do revel in watching the post-game show after a loss.

Chico and “Stevie” are alwasy good for like 5-7 idiotic and absurd one-liners. Also, at any given point in a broadcast during a 5 minute period Chico will say “Marty” 10-15 times, bare minimum.

    Last night’s beauty from Chico…
