Maloney was here and seeing Prucha and Dawes BEFORE Renney ran them into the ground. They are not the same players they were two years ago. Their confidence has been shaken and it remains to be seen if they can get their game(s) back in another environment. I wish them well, but where the Rangers are concerned, these two may never have more market value.

Also, to those who are upset that we gave up so much to land Morris, look at it this way: Maloney wanted Prucha and Dawes for Morris. Slats said, you also take Kalinin off my hands and it’s a deal. So that the Rangers got a positive in Morris, and dumped a wretched negative in Kalinin, all at once. Of course you have to give up something to get something. To my mind gaining Morris and dumping Kalinen is at least a fair exchange for the Prucha and Dawes package of 2009.

If I were GM, my counter offer to Maloney would have been: Dawes, Kalinin and Betts for Morris, keeping Prucha and promoting AA, which really should be done now. We have promoted Girardi, Callahan, and Korpikoski, in-season, in the last couple years, with good results. It is becoming WAY past time to make the AA in and Betts out move. And I appreciate what Betts has contributed this year, out from under Hollweg’s yoke. But TIMING is everything and this is AA’s time, and Betts has had a much longer tenure in New York than any of us thought he would have.
