Rangers vs. Panthers, 7:30 p.m.
I have fond memories of Rangers trips to Florida to play the Panthers. One is Muckler trying that Leetch on left wing thing against Pavel Bure without practicing it and without having the last change as the visiting team; and getting shut out, then declaring it a successful strategy.
Another is ex-Panther Radek Dvorak recalling the night Scott Mellanby killed a rat in the lockerroom—with a slap shot, no less—that began that whole “Rat” craze in 1996. Dvorak, in his thick Czech accent and baritone voice, would say, “big, huge Raaahhhht” and pronounce Mellanby “Mell-ON-bee.”
And there were the games in the old arena in downtown Miami, the worst part of any town in America—unless you were looking to buy crack. It was so bad that at night all the traffic lights in the area were turned to blinking lights because they didn’t want anybody to have to stop for long. God it was scary. Roger Neilson was the coach there for a while after the Rangers fired him, and he used to tell the story of when he first got down there. He made friends with a cop who told him that, when driving to the arena, “take your gun out of the glove box and put it right on the seat next to you.”
“Gun!?” Neilson said incredulously. “I don’t have a gun!”
Anyway, tonight the Rangers can do some damage to the Panthers’ ownership. They are selling four-packs of tickets, including this game, and guaranteeing the Panthers will make the playoffs or the tickets are free (I guess they’ll credit the tickets toward purchase of tickets next year; I can’t imagine they’ll actually refund the buyers).

Just got word that everybody will skate in warmups, but that the winning lineup from Wednesday will probably remain intact. That means Kalinin is out. And Prucha, for a change. And that Hartford’s Sean Avery is indeed scheduled to play vs. the Manitoba Moose tomorrow.

I’m going to make it official (even though I said it a couple days ago as well)...
If Prucha’s not in the lineup come 19:59 left in the first period, I will be rooting for Renney to lose, his position to be vacated, and someone who will either play or free Prucha.

I’m even more pissed off when I think about Renney, who’s essentially a liar, actually saying that Prucha “wears down” and that Voros a better player in this lineup because of his size. Well, Tom, we’re not dumb. You’ve played plenty of smaller, faster, teams and kept Voros in the lineup. You’re also not fooling anyone with the “Prucha wears down” business because you barely play him the games he’s out there anyway. And when you do, he usually scores, and then you either put him on another line or give him less ice time, including a lack of PP time.
I’m not willing to go to jail, but if I ran into Renney on the street, I would LITERALLY run into him. I hate this man.

Rick, I know you asked Renney the Prucha question (great job) and got his ludicrous answer. However when asked to follow up you kind of back peddled with some questionable explanation why you could and would not.
Well I think any rational person would have to agree the time has certainly come (again) when you should put Renney up against the wall (OK I will not say shoot him) and get a straight and believable answer. If he pontificates, wiggles, lies, spouts BS etc you should not stop bombarding him until you get the truth, no matter what it might be.
His actions against this kid have gone from the sublime to the ridiculous.
If size is the problem, then just sit Dawes instead of Voros.

toymaniam, and others who keep asking … there obviously is something more to the Prucha situation than they are letting on … so it will require some investigating, not asking. At this point, questions aren’t going to get it done.
As you know, I am not around the Rangers every day. So when I get a chance to do so, I will try to find out what the real story is … but, again, it’s probably not as simple as it sounds, and if there’s another explanation, then they must have a reason for hiding it. That’s the best I can tell you.
If it was as simple as him wearing down, well, he’d sure be well-rested by now. And if he was actually available, don’t you think they’d have made at least one lineup change after 10-2? Or three goals in four games?

There is no justification for the treatment of him. And its gone past “oh he didnt want to go to Hartford” they did this to him last year too. But not at bad as this year. Sam & Joe have always said he was the best conditioned Ranger getting to camp, During camp and Out of camp. And Im sorry he is by far one of my favorite Rangers post lock out and I watch him closely. He doesnt “wear out”. If he wants to make that argument, then Voros shouldnt be in the line up either.

The uproar is because at least he gives his all when he’s out there, unlike some of the guys that have been playing instead of him. Instead of watching most of them go through the motions, he actually hustles, Sure he may be ‘marginal at best’, but he puts forth the effort everyone here seems to appreciate.

Carp-Wow, I can’t believe the old arena is worse than Camden, New Jersey. I’ve seen concerts there (Radiohead, The Pixies) and THAT is the scariest city I’ve been to, it makes the streets named after Sates in DC look like White Plains.
Great Neilson story. He was a great coach, always wanted toughness in the lineup and unfortunately got a bad deal for that 92-93 season. Rest his soul.
Prucha’s really never been the same after that game in Philly his rookie year when he hurt his knee and missed the Olympics. I don’t know if that relates to anything, but it’s a clue.

That’s not it either because he had been sat (if I remember) 10 games consecutively at that point. That’s when they asked him to go to the minors and he refused. But they had sat him 10 straight already … Something’s up. Whether prucha put a move on someone’s wife/gf or whether he did something else (perhaps unprofessional or non-teammate like), this guy’s been black-listed Ted Nolan style.

Unless you like the idea of having firetrucks race to multiple places at 60 mph while cops are holding off traffic while the lights blinking to supposedly get people out of there, and more SWAT teams than you see in a federal building…...Pearl Jam….loved their first two albums, not so much after. They do get a huge power play assist for lending their equipment to the Red Hot Chili Peppers at Tibet 98 Concert to help get John Frusciante comfortable and playing with them again.

All of that music you all have mentioned is great. I’m excited for the Chickenfoot album hopefully coming out later this year; Satriani with Sammy Hagar, Michael Anthony from VH, and the very underrated and truly awesome Chad Smith of the Chili Peppers on drums.
All music is good even country (stereotyped to death unfortunately), just gotta find the right artists to tickle your skin.

I agree that with the right pivot he could play 1st or 2nd line, but I think his true value is on the extra effort goals that he has shown he is capable of getting, which would make him a serious threat on a 3rd line. As for his agent, maybe he should seek new representation.

That was a VERY lucky period. Renney owes his job to the 4th line, but more importantly LUNDQVIST because this could be 3-1 or 4-1 already.
Way I see it, they lose and Prucha’s gotta make the lineup. They win, well, they work towards a first round playoff loss but help work towards the playoffs.
That’s mediocre on both accounts.
But if They lose a bunch in a row, Renney’s gone, and that’s a WIN-WIN!!!

Drury is having a pretty subpar offensive season, as well as defensive in many respects. However, I find it worse that he only has 21 hits in 55 games. So in all those games you have been a nonfactor offensively and defensively, you didnt think perhaps being more physical would be good for the team.

bravo KC, fabulous post. Ortmeyer was my favorite guy on the team, he may not have been the greatest offensive force, but he took the body, he played heads up, and the dude blocked shots like another goalie. I hope he’s playin when I go see the game on the 12th. LOVED HIM

Hollweg sucks, Ortmeyer sucks, Moore is having a fluke season, but otherwise, sucks. That’s what happened. They were full of energy and fun to watch, but face it, they sucked.
moore is a better player than EL Capitan. i think mooore is going be a 45-50 point guy for a nice while.
Moore is a smart, quick forward who has developed nicely in Toronto. He pissed off Sather with the arbitration stuff, and unwisely was banished.
All the Prucha stuff is valid, and the call to get rid of that stiff Voros even more so. But not enough is said about Renney’s misuse of those he does play. Zherdev should be the starting point in putting together a top line: put Naslund with him and watch the 2 of them do some great things with the puck—i’d even try Dubi between them at center. Then pair up Korpi and Callahan for the next line,and go from there. For the PP, stop with this automatic Drury-Gomez crap,and start with Zherdev; you have to actually move around to create mini-advantages for an effective PP instead of wasting time with Voros-the-stiff in front. And finally, as Ford and others have explained nicely, pressure the puck with a real forecheck, not this pull-back nonsense (at which Drury seems to be a master). This is the type of stuff that needs to be discussed and that should lead to an immediate coaching change.

Drury works nicely with Cally (he did last year it was he Cally and Avery I think when Jagr and Straka played with Dubi) and he was pretty good with them against Washington… so I’d go with him in that slot.
That leaves a line of Dawes Gomez and Prucha? Or do you move Sjo up to the third line?
They do need a more aggressive (as in non-non-existent) forecheck though for certain!!!!

I didn’t get to watch the game Friday night, but I may watch the Rangers rewind at noon if I feel up to it. However, it sounds like a typical frustration from not being able to pressure a team coming off a game the night before, just like last Friday!! i am glad i was in Albany this weekend because when we tried to watch the game it ended up being blacked out to the sabres sharks game. Sabres play some pretty exciting hockey. I hate our team now; we really are the laughing stock of the league, can we ever win a game in regulation? Im sorry but im not fully sold on the bruins. i predict the sabres and the sharks in the finals, that was such an intense game beginning to end.

If you listened closely, Maloney actually took a jab at Redden there, while paying him a backhanded compliment. He said, this was a good game for Redden, and he said, “Wade Redden can be an effective player when he is not OBLIVIOUS to the play and what is going on around him.” He was actually saying that it is rare with Redden isn’t oblivious this year. Go back and watch the post game again and listen closely, because I did a few times.

I knew it was a long time since this asshat actually had a pulse, but 1992!?!? Since then, what exactly besides getting Jagr at discount and Shanny? I won’t exactly give him credit for Lundqvist.
Maybe Sather IS dead, and they have him froze kinda like Walt Disney and Ted Williams, and every once in a while they defrost him for appearances. Poor Petr Prucha played with passion and now ponders on the pine . I pity Petr I perfer a place he can play. Prucha puts proper pressure on the puck but is not picked to play.

Riche’ he is doing something. Prucha sits, REdden is on the point, he does not allow creativity (see Jagr and all his fustration on the PP) Renney has gottten the team he wanted. No Jagr, or Shannahan to question his authority, and now no way for us to hope for change because he thinks he knows everything.
I said before and I’ll say it again. Sather came here to mess up a big money American franchise, because just before he came here he said that they were reuining Canadian hockey. Look it up, this was big news just before the Pompous ass came here. There are teams in the league who will not trade with us because of an extreme dislike for Sather.
