The Rangers reversed course and opted for an off-ice workout session today, but the plan was to still have an extensive video review of last night’s “adventures and misadventures against the lowly Isles”:http://www.lohud.com/article/20090114/SPORTS01/901140386/-1/SPORTS.
I’ll check in with news then.
In the meantime, don’t forget we’re coming back with a live video chat tomorrow at 1. Follow “this link”:http://www.lohud.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/99999999/MOGULUS0103/399990019 to take part.

WE WIN 2-1 TO A TEAM DOWN TO THIER 4RD-4TH STRING GOALIE,THAT WON ONLY 12 GAMES ALL YEAR.FIRE RENNEY
Brooks hit the nail on the head tnte. they played really mediocre last nite. u cant go into a game looking to win 2-1, they need to play a lot better than last nite to have a chance at success.
SHOULD SAY 3RD,BUT YOU ALREADY KNOW THAT.
REPOST
To Sam and all the supportive fans:
The comments on this blog DO NOT represent the thinking of all Rangers fans. The ridiculously redundant complaining will get to you, so just stop reading and hoping for something interesting to chat about because it won’t happen here on any regular basis. You will either become just as jaded or grow to detest other fans. I stopped looking at the comments when I found myself kicking a fellow NYR fan at MSG for booing Kalinin in December. I’ve seen some very promising play (all damn season really) so I came back to see if others were noticing. And yeah, some are, but most are pathetically driven to hold on to their “big picture” that the team is boring and lacking. The big picture is simply that their own self-loathing prevents the enjoyment of anything else. I’m out.

just a quick rebuttal to that- it’s not self-loathing, it’s accurate critique.
If this is a team that says its stated goal is to win the Cup- what play can you point to (of recent) that indicates this is remotely possible? Playoff team- most likely, Cup contender- hardly.
Ignorance isn’t bliss, it’s just ignorance.
what damn promising play have u seen all season? not even trying to be negative here but ive never been more frustrated watching this team (tho fun to see prucha hustling now) despite the fact that they are in 1st
1st assignment: THE POWERPLAY- Our powerplay out right sucks and we need to correct this.
I think the video session will be most beneficial to them today. The defensive zone play from last night, from all players, not just the dmen should be addressed. I don’t necessarily think it was ‘lazy’ play by anyone.
What was that dude’s name? Jackson? That guy that hit rozy, then staal? That’s the type of physicality I think we miss in some games. Games vs MTL, BOS, PHI mainly. If Ryan Malone wasn’t so f’n overpaid he’d be a nice addition. But I’m glad we didn’t give him the $5mil he got from TB. Owners got stupid 7/1/08.
I don’t necessarily think it was ‘lazy’ play by anyone.
Never finished my though..oops. I think it was a little too much scrambling, and not enough moving the puck up and out of the zone. There were a few times they shoulda just iced the puck, and try to win the next draw.
rozy looked like he was ready to quit after he was pasted behind their own net by that kid haha. he was fun to watch.
Too cutesy is how I’d describe the play last night. They’re a funny bunch… they play solid and sound… then try to push the envelope (not criticizing here)... then take it too far… then get brain cramps (or head up butt syndrome) until they get back to solid and sound hockey.
Good teams do this from time to time but correct it IN GAME. The Rangers takle a month to go through that cycle.
I guess I’m always so negative because this is an ‘Original 6’ team that has only 4 cups and very little to show for the last 25 years.
You’d think a team this old would have like 30 cups by now and competent coaching and management, but nooooo…
I’ve predicted the outcome of this team fairly consistently the last 10 years.. ESPECIALLY post-lockout.
We’re nothing more than a second round exit because we have no offense and no special teams.. I’d rather be in the hunt for a lottery pick than settle for the 20th overall who will be a career AHLer anyway.
nutgirl should be left nut girl….because i would give my left nut to hear you tell me what has been promising this year and actually be convinced.
hank has been promising. has anyone other than staal, mara and cally really lived up to expectations? zherdev maybe a little. dubi, disappointed. gomer drury…hahaha…those guys should play some D if they are not going to score. naslund…so-so, but his plus minus sucks. the 4th line has done OK.
but promising? maybe nuthouse girl is a better blogname.
and trust me nut, i am one of the more positive ones and i try not to be negative as much as possible. but let’s at least be honest.
Promising play of:
Callahan, Lunquist, Staal, Dawes (Lately), Prucha
People are funny, the scream the team signed two number two centers, they signed an over the hill Redden, a soft Rosival, etc. They scream the coaches suck but the team is at the top of Atlantic. Can it be both? Yes some signings suck (almost all this year look to be failures) and the coaching has been horrible for the power play. But they are on top of the Atlantic. Maybe the coaches are getting the most out these guys, maybe not. Maybe these guys like playing together and that will translate into wins, maybe not. Some of the screamers are stead fast that it is all Renney, ok I respect that but then they kill halff the players on the team. but again they are on top of the Atlantic. So is it the coaching or the players? I would love this team to be more exciting but it is what it is. In first.
Callahan played very well last night. Good to see him and Dawes coming around!

This team plays good teams really hard. They then play against shitty teams and try to be real cute and fancy. They need to play the same way ALL of the time.

Original 6 teams
NYR-4 cups last in 94
Bos-5 cups last in 72
Chi-3 cups last in 61
Mon, Tor and Det dominated the rest.
JUst a thought
Are you a psychiatrist? Because you confused the hell out of me. What are you saying?
New Newman – I thought you were harsh to Nutgirl, but you had me cracking up – but i also agree with you. There isn’t promising to this team other than Callahan, Staal and Lundqvist
“top of the division” = can change daily. more important to look at our trends / weaknesses and realize as Nasty 1 stated that we don’t play the same (consistently good) all the time…
after the power play let’s start working on faceoffs shall we?
