Is it a good or a bad sign that the Rangers are facing a team that is slumping even worse than them?
“They’re a good team. We’ve all been through these type of stretches before,” Tom Renney said. “It looks awful for a moment. But good teams come out of it and they did exactly that a year ago. And they played in the last series of the year. We respect them enough to know they can correct themselves at any time. A lot of teams have a tendency to really want to do that at MSG.”
So in other words, disregard the fact that the Penguins have been cuffed around of late, most recently a 6-1 loss to Florida. Does anyone really doubt that this team is going to be heard from in March and April?

Congratulation to the Russian National Team for getting Bronze Medals! This one is sort of bittersweet victory knowing that they were only few seconds away from advancing to the gold round… But this is sport and things like this happen… I’m pretty happy for them anyway… good luck to Canada later on tonight!
Zherdev does not deserve to go to the all-star game. imo his game has fallen off big time the last 6 weeks. He is everything his scouting report said very talented, maddeningly inconsistent and takes way way too many shifts off and overhandles the puck way too much. He needs to compete every shifts (instead of three shifts a game) and be smarter with the puck until he does that he’ll continue to be looked as a chronic underachiever and rightfully so.
CCCP who was the dumbass the iced the puck? Watching the game gotta say both teams goaltending leaves alot to be desired.
This team is playing like crap. Drury, Gomez, and Redden are horrible. I will watch the game anyway.
Streit doesn’t look like someone who would succeed in the Big Apple. He was also known as a defensive liability and is playing big minutes on a bottom of the league team. Granted Redden has been horrible.

I agree that Redden is a waste of money. However, I would not be so sure that Streit would have been better – cheaper for sure (well I guess that part would have been better) – but points wise he would have stunk on the Rangers as much as Redden. Trade Redden along with Rissmiller/Fritchse to Dallas for Avery and D-men (any Dmen) and bring up Potter/Fahey. Then give Avery one more chance and cut him lose if he screws up again!
Streit has 32 points and makes $4.1m, and on pace to beat his last year’s 62p.
Redden has 16p and makes $6.5m and is on pace to tie Streit’s mid season point totals.
Avery/Sydor for Redden(or Rozsival), Kalinin, Prucha and a pick.
it’s not all about points. What can’t be measured is how many plays redden makes (or should I say DOESN’T make) that change the momentum of a game in a negative way. We don’t need razzle dazzle and flash back there, just don’t F**K up 3 times a game!
There are probably 150 defensemen in the league I’d rather have in my line up right now than Redden, and two more down in Hartford.

I have an idea; let me know what y’all think. Bring up Bobby Sags and have him as the 7th dman/PP QB and sit either Orr or Sjo. Give that 4th line ice time to Zherdev including the PK, you know he’d love that and I believe half of Betts points this year have come off of Zherdev’s stick. Try Bobby Sags as a PP QB for one-three games and see how he does. If he’s not capable, the kid knows what to work on for next year. Can’t be any worse than Redden.

I honestly tried to like the new additions this year, after watching the train going off the tracks for the last few weeks its very clear. Wade Redden is a no-hustle loser and should be sent down or released.

Then Hollweg comes in and does one of his St Patty’s day dances. Then Hugh Jessiman goes on to score 52 goals, 3 assists in his Predators season debut.

Lucky first period. Hank kept them in it, which these days is rare. Black Smoke Magic got a lucky goal, but good for him.
The refs are really helping these struggling Penis’, so im not looking forward to watching the rest of this game.
Of course Renney benches Pruchs for a bit when he takes the 4 minute penalty .It was a smart move, in fact, he should have done that to DREARY when he did that in the final seconds of regulation in game 5 of the playoffs, when he took the same penalty, in an elimination game. Who knows how they would have started that overtime period, if not for that penalty.
Hopefully Pruchs doesn’t let Renney’s sabotage techniques ruin his game like it has the last two seasons, and counting.

I’m so happy to see Prucha on the power play, but I would take Voros over him, since he showed early in the season that he knew how to screen the goalie and deflect the puck. I’m also finally over Orr being in the lineup every game, since we have other players that have shown that they will drop the gloves when they need to, like Dawes, Prucha, and Staal. Voros will fight anyone, even if he is as bad as Hollweg.

As complete as an effort as this team has displayed this season. This team won every puck battle in the corners and every Pens forward and dman took a body check. The energy and the defense was as good as it’s been all year. The weathered the storm and the refs incompetance in the first ten minutes. Lundqvist shook off his doldrums in December(again) with some huge saves on Malkin, Kennedy, and Crosbitch. The pk was fantastic led by Hank and guys like Sjostrom and Staal. Rozsival easily played his best game of the season. He was strong in both zones. He was really smart with the puck and made some very good one on one plays. Staal has just developed into one of the best shutdown Dmen around. He just tossed Malkin around which caused Malkin to go back into his shell whenever he’s hit. The pp for once came up huge. Two main reasons is having Prucha in front on the pp adding energy and urgency as well as Mara and Rozsival shooting the puck. Mara has been a revelation this year if only he shot more he’d be good for 40-50 points a year. Even Redden after a rough start had a fairly solid and lively game. Prucha and Dawes led the forecheck all game long. Dawes has been great the last 3-4 weeks. He is one of the teams most creative forwards. Prucha was all over the place creating all kinds of chaos. He seemed to have thrown a half dozen hit, he was in every scrum and stick his nose in the dirty areas. I called for Sjostrom to sit but he answered me but having a fantastic game if only he could finish. Gomez had the quitest two point game you could every have. He and Zherdev seemed to have a turnover contest going on. I loved seeing the Pens flail away and whine. Even with the refs help that’s all they can do. It is rather clear that they’ve quit on their coach. Hopefully the Rangers can get the same exact effort and play vs the Habs in a couple of days.

for the most part, the way we’ve always gotten ourselves into trouble is not in signing our own guys. It’s always the over the hill, mercenary FA’s we throw insane contracts at. And, most times, we’re just bidding against ourselves.
the best thing a team can do is to take the home team discount on the fan favorites that have come through the system, and keep some cohesion.
the worst thing they can do is keep signing Unrestricted FA’s at the tail end of their career to contracts that have them in uniform until they’re 38.
