So what now?

189

A lot to think about now that Mats Sundin is out of the picture:

Do the Rangers look at what else is out there? Do they sit tight until the trade deadline?

Do I shovel the snow as it falls, or wait for it to stop first?

If only I knew.

As for the players who still constitute the 2008-09 Rangers, they reconvene at the rink today before tomorrow’s showdown with the suddenly vulnerable Sharks, who were handed a smackdown of the first order by the defending Stanley Cup champion Red Wings.

The good news is the Sharks are coming off a tough loss. The bad news? Same thing.

News when I have it later..

  1. Don’t look for any changes any time soon, maybe Shanny signing at best till the trading deadline.

  2. I think the only signing that the Rangers would make right now is Signing Shanny back. At this point, it may not be such a bad idea.

However, this team just strung 3 wins together, and if they play SJ like they played Anaheim, they should be leaving this trip with at least 5 points. The Sharks have looked awful in 2 straight games. I don’t believe this “the Sharks will come out for blood” thing. If the Rangers can start off well with a quick goal and if they can get them on their heels quick, the Rangers will win this game. San Jose isn’t unbeatable, i think Columbus proved that.

  3. I don’t think Shanny is the answer.

Sam, wait until there’s 4 inches of snow on the ground and start shoveling…light enough to lift and not break your back but probably about roughly half of what we’ll see today.

I thought Dawes was going to be a good one….he shows flashes but obviously not enough.

  4. SAM ask Sather what he thinks, if he really does that to any intelligent level. He needs some more assistants. He has plenty of guys to blame.

  5. Shanny is a mistake. Can’t do enough, will try to do too much. And it will allow others to get lazy[ier] because they expect him to lift the team on his shoulders.

Tomorrow should be a very good lithmus test for the Rangers, if the Sharks play well. Which they should.

  6. I love snow days. I am a teacher and I am home. But it is days like today that I feel like a big floppy pu**y to my neighbors. I have two herniated discs in my back and it kills to shovel. My wife always goes out and does it and I am sure my neighbors are like, what a scum bag making his pretty little wife go out and shovel. Oh well. I will try to go out before she gets home and give it a go. Then I will be useless for 5 days. HA. Wish me luck.

  7. The Rangers two big needs are more scoring and better stuff from the defensemen. They are winning one goal games and shootouts, but if things went the othe way in those games they would have a crappy record and a low point total.

The Rangers may have made the right move with Sundin, because they may have moved some major guys or upset chemistry for one player for half a season. The long term implications could have been bad for us.

The Rangers could use a sniper on the wing. Is it worth it to pursue Marian Gaborik – maybe depending upon the price in terms of players and picks. On defense, they could really use the help. It would have been great to get Brooks Orpik in the summer but he resigned withthe Pens. This is thinking big, but I would love it if they could get Jay Bouwmeester. The price may be to high and they may be better served to try to sign him as an UFA in the offseason.

Regardless, Sather needs to clear some cap room for whatever moves he plans on making now or at the trade deadline. Get to work Slats.

  8. Sign Shanny and prepare Prucha and Fristche for trades.

Trade Kalinen, keep up Potter full time until we sign a brusing D Man, then use Potter as 7th Dman unless he proves his worth and keeps a spot

I think we’d look pretty damn good at that point.
Missing pieces would be in place.

Sorry but Redden and Rosi are here and are not getting traded. Just being realistic.

  9. Again, Shanny is not the answer. He has missed most of the season so he will be even a step slower in addition to his age and decreasing abilities. The only reason to bring him back would be if the NYR picked Avery back up to keep him in check, but I don’t see that happening.

I’d like to see Gomez and Redden gone. These guys have been lousy all year.

Trade to Atl: Gomez, Prucha, Fritsche, Kalinin & Redden to Atlanta

NYR get: Kovalchuk, Williams, Reasoner and Havelid

    lines:

    Naslund, Drury, Callahan
    Kovalchuk, Dubinsky, Zherdev
    Sjostrom, Reasoner/Williams, Dawes/Korpedo
    Orr, Betts, Voros/Korpedo

Staal/Rozsival (these 2 together seem to be doing well)
    Havelid/Girardi
    Mara/Potter or Fahey

  10. Hey Nasty 1, who cares what the neighbors think.
My wife has 2 herniated disks and you don’t mess with those.

Holidays are here don’t mess with your back, pay a guy to take care of it.

  11. czechthemout!!!!! on

what now you ask? Well, how about trying to aquire Andrew Vermette. His value is not at it’s peak right now and he can probobly be had realtivley cheap. He would look good flanking Scott Gomez or Dubinksy(even Better).I’d also like to get Anton Volchenkov if possible. He is young, hits hard and is always one of the league leaders in blocked shots.I’m not sure about Vermetts and volchenkov’s status for next year,ie; FA,but it would be good to get them here. The problem is,we need to be able to shed salary to make it happen. If it were my money, I’d try and move a big contract like Redden to make it happen. If not him than Rozy,Kalinin,Prucha, fritsche would need to be waved. It will however coat a Bobby Sags and someone off the current lineup to make a trade happen.

  12. The idea when Gomez and Drury were both brought in, was that they were going to click with Shanny and Jagr. It never happened. They weren’t signed to be these huge goal scorers, because neither of them have ever been. They are play makers and Drury has been know to be a game breaker, and has been a few times for us, bot not consistently. We need a prolific goal scoring and a banging d man. Plain and simple. I don’t like Gomers or Drurys contract, but I do like them on this team. I really feel if we had a Gaborik or Kovulchuk we would be much better off. But we would have to give up too much to get either.

  13. i think he would make a good Ranger, and could come cheap since it seems NYI doesnt want him anymore

    http://www.hockeybuzz.com/blog/BD-Gallof/THE-ISLES-DEFENSE-Witt-Speaks-Out/85/18465

He makes 2.7 million a season but, pro-rated and with the 1.1 cap room we have already, he could be acquired for any combo of Prucha, Kalinin, Rissmiller, and/or Fritche

Then we would just need a winger until next season when Brian Gionta and John Madden are acquired in the off-season to play with Gomez …. maybe Shanny wouldnt be such a horrible band-aid until next year????

  14. Oh, and i forgot to mention I think the Isles would take this trade since they seem to like our “sloppy-seconds” with Mitch Fritz and Thomas Pock currently on the roster

  15. If Slats can get a 5th for Hollweg, and Zherdev/Frit for Tyutin/Backman, he should be able to get at least a semi-decent pick for Kalinin.

  16. somerset
Funny I was reading about vailable Islanders somehwre…they listed Witt ( and that he was slow) but i still thought “Theres our banger!”

    probably wont happen though

  17. How about Prucha or Dawes, Fritsche, Sanguinetti, a pick, or 1 other piece maybe Mara for Gaborik??

Gaborik is an elite forward they can really really use.

Minny is not resigning him and they can get numerous pieces back…

  18. BillyDeeWilliams on

I just hope the team can keep playing now that all of their jobs aren’t directly in jeopardy. I think a lot of them (nigel dawes, roszival, etc.) looked like they were playing for their jobs the first two games of this roadtrip. I’d like to see that same level of play from the beginning of the games continue.

  19. Kasper “What if Petr Prucha doesnt play?
    Or play on the PP?

    His fault I guess?”

hmm, if I didn’t know better, that might sound like you’re blaming somebody else… a certain professor???

  20. Regarding your question “Do I shovel the snow as it falls, or wait for it to stop first?” Last year I tested that theory…it doesn’t work..you are still doing double the work cause you’re cleaning the same area twice.

  21. Too many trades up here for a forward… NOT WHAT WE NEED! We need a solid, hitting, defensive defenseman. It would be wonderful for our scorers to be putting up better numbers, but we really do have players who can put the puck in the net. Nearly everyone on the first 3 lines should be able to put in 10 – 15 goals. Everyone from Gomez, to Drury, to Dawes, to Dubinsky. Tons of potential there… no need to trade 3 or 4 up and comers for a guy like Gaborik, who just can’t stay off the IR. Players like Jason Smith… on a sinking team, who might actually be available, might be worth a better look. We need someone who the opposition fears… we just don’t have that blueliner.

  22. “Kasper “What if Petr Prucha doesnt play?
    Or play on the PP?

    Jeever 12-19-08

Absolutely not…my word is my word..just asking a question thats all

  23. Regarding Dubinsky.

He hasn’t regressed at all. He’s just not scoring. The only part of his game that has changed is he no longer has the greatest european right wing to ever play the game of hockey on his line.

Now, instead of teams shadowing Jagr and leaving Dubi open, it’s the opposite.

    DUH!!!!!!!!

  24. onecupin67years on

Jim , double the work or less effort? its easier to shovel 3inches 2 times than 6 one time? You can’t win either way.
I hate snow and fall leaves.

As far as trades go, to clear cap room so start trading.

  25. zZzZ 13 ZzZz rules!! ....says Greg L. on

    (22 figure8)
” Why do fans of every team think that it’s a good trade to get an elite player for multiple crappy players from your team? Dumb!”

Why you ask? Thats an easy one…have you ever heard ,that one mans garbage is another mans gold!!!!

  26. Stat-wise dubi is on course for almost the same type season as he had last year…

He did not begin playing with Jagr until right about now too..maybe thats where he padded his stats last year a little too

the talent is there with Dubi…but you can see the confidence is not…

Having big bro jagr on the team; plus Shanny defeintley helped him..forget about being on the same line..just their influence

He’ll be fine… he will be an offensive threat, as much as he can be on a team that doesn’t score much for whatever reason…

second full season..he’ll score 12-15, have 25-30 assists even at this pace

  27. If this team sat Kalinin, practiced the power play every day and played TEAM defense for a full 60 minutes they would not need any scoring help during the regular season.

Sure, they wouldn’t score a lot. But they wouldn’t give up much either. Why is it we built the team much like the Devils of the 90’s, but we play like the Rangers of the 90’s? The problem here is that the offensive talent that is on this team is so concerned about scoring and making pretty plays that they refuse to put in the necessary commmitment to the team game. It’s like Jagr attitude without having Jagr talent. Renney and the coaching staff deserve the blame for much of this. they promised us a TEAM this season. Yet they haven’t been able to get the whole team to play like team.

  28. JAE

Ahahaha, that is the worst trade EVER. We’re getting a 40-50 goal scoring SUPERSTAR, and they’re getting an overpaid D-man who isn’t doing good, a semi overpaid Center who isn’t doing that great, and wont provide the goal scoring they need, a 4th liner, maybe 3rd line forward with Danny F, and a shitty D-man like Kalinin, and a Winger who lost his scoring touch, but may have some value if used correctly. Id take that trade in a heart beat, Goofy Eyes Waddell wont.

Throw in Dubinsky or Staal, a 1st rounder, Anisimov and/or Sanguinetti, & Callahan, for Kovalchuk, then i can see that happen. But those are players i wouldn’t wanna lose. At least not Dubi, and Staal.

Anyway, i cant believe Gaborik is hurt again. That’s insane, one game back, and boom scores a goal, and now gets injured. That’s sad. He’s a damn good player, but the guy tweaks his groin just by listening to a Mariah Carey song. Feel bad for the guy.

  29. Doesn’t everyone realize the NHL is heavily scouted? Everyone in the league knows Kalinin is sucking. No one’s gonna trade for him. Or Redden. Or probably anything fans would be happy to be rid of.

Much like tangoing, it takes two to trade. And there aren’t too many GMs who are dumb enough to accept a ton of s–t for an ounce of gold.

Gomez and Dubi for Kovalchuk and a solid d prospect.

    “Regarding Dubinsky.

Now, instead of teams shadowing Jagr and leaving Dubi open, it’s the opposite.”

While I agree he hasn’t regressed, your Jagr argument is flawed since Dubinsky came flying out of the gate this season, sans Jagr.

He’s just slumping, as is most of the team.

  31. Im not complaining aboot Dubi, i want him to do more, but be patient with him. Look at Phil Kessel, he was a 1st round pick, a top 5 pick i think, and his rookie year he had 11 goals, 29 points in 70 games, then in his second year, had 19 goals, 37 points in 82 games. Now he has 21 goals, 34 points in 31 games.

Sometimes it takes players a few years to reach their potential, you cant expect everyone to become stars so quick. Dubi’s doing what i thought he would be doing. Gotta be patient with him.

As for Staal, i don’t wanna be patient with him like Renney is, and I WANNA SEE HIM ON THE PP !!

    Go Sens tonight !

  32. I see egos preventing the Shanny signing…don’t know who’s ego but Sather crawls back? Shanny is the bridesmaid getting married cause the Bride split on the Groom?

Sather is probably the one who told Shanny wait till i figure this out and squeeze Sundin in…then told sundin just wait till i clear some room for you…then he couldn’t and sundin walked…then Shanny’s pissed about losing 1/2 year….

In the end though, although I am a big Shanny fan, not having him or Sundin isn’t the key issue

Our youngsters underpreforming and not having that big banging dee man are…If one guy from dawes-Dubi-korpi-Prucha exploded into a 25 goal scorer- and joined Zherdev-Naslund and Drury at that level, throw in 15-20 from cally and Gomer theres no need for Shanny or Uncle fester for that matter…we still wouldn’t be banging home 6 or 7 a night but with all the one goal games we play the difference between having a Dubi at 12 goals or a Dubi at 25 is enormous…even if only 3 or 4 of those goals are differenc emakers…thats 6-8 points..could mean playoffs or no playoffs, could mean 6th seed or 2nd seed etc…

  33. “but the guy tweaks his groin just by listening to a Mariah Carey song. Feel bad for the guy.”

    Another classic Orr-ism

Joins “The creepy Twins” as this years slogans…everytime we see the Sedins now;every one in our house says “hey look its one of the creepy twins!!”

  34. Regarding Dubinsky.

He hasn’t regressed at all. He’s just not scoring

BRANDON, NO OFFENSE BUT THATS THE MAIN THING HOCKEY PLAYERS ARE TRYING TO ACCOMPLISH. SCORING. HES BEEN STAGNANT FOR THE LAST 20 GAMES. IM SORRY BUT HE AND VOROS BOTH ARE PLAYIN SHITTY. I ACTUALLY DONT THINK HES DOGGIN IT HE JUST ISNT AS TALENTED AS WE THOUGHT. JAGR MADE HIM BETTER. HE STILL HAS PLENTY OF MATURING TO DO AND KNOW HE CAN BE A TOP SCORER FOR THIS TEAM BUT HE NEEDS A ZHERDEV TO COMPLEMENT HIS GAME BETTER. U FIGURE HE GETS A GOAL EVERY 7 GAMES HES ON TRACK FOR ABOUT WHAT HE GOT LAST YEAR. AN ANSWER TO OUR SCORING PROBLEM IS RIGHT THERE IN OUR OWN LINEUP. IF DOOBS, DAWES, KORPI, SHOE, CALLY STEPPED UP THERE PLAY THEY COULD TAKE OVER THIS TEAM, BUT SO FAR THEYVE NOT PROGRESSED. 1 EXAMPLE IS LOUIE ERICSON ON DALLAS HAS LIKE 13-14 GOALS. MORE THAN OUR TOP SCORER. HE IS A 3RD LINER TOO. OR AT LEAST HE WAS LAQST YEAR.

  35. It just goes to show how silly some the ideas on here are that “trade Kalinin” makes it on at least five times a day.

Any GM could have signed him during the last off season, any GM can sign him as free agent next summer – without giving anything up now.

Does anybody on here actually understand how trading anything work? You exchange value.

If your perceived value of Kalinin is so low, why on earth would you expect to get anything back?

  36. No matter how you twist it, turn it or slice it…its still baloney…

    You gotta admit
Having nobody on pace for 80 Pts doesn’t exactly breed Stanley Cup Playoff confidence..

I dont want to hear about the old Devils teams either, the last two actually scored goals, one led the league in goals!! believe it or not…

And our defenseman cannot compare to thiers..

    scary

  37. 22figure8, are you joking? Anytime you can get a blue chip player for a package of red chip / white chip players – it’s a steal. Same for trading 2 or threewhite chips for a red chip. You are accomplishing two things, by doing this: 1. You are unloading weaknesses, and, 2. You are adding strength. You need to understand that mediocre/average/below players are a dime a dozen in every sport, easily replaceable. Above average players are at a premium, and are what put championship (not just “making the playoffs”) teams over the top.

What is the basic rule of playing Monopoly: Converting several small dwellings into one large hotel – and you “make a fortune” and win, when you outperform your competition, in this respect. Sports is no different. Lots of Big Mac players out there, not that many premium stake dinners. Why do we keep refering to the Crosby’s and Ovechin’s of the world? Because they make the world go ’round, not the run or the mill players who fill out every roster. You wouldn’t trade a package of Rozy, Prucha, and Voros, etc. for Ovechin? Really?

  38. Pavel
His 6 goals gets him on our second line…LOL

and thats it…now we win every single shootout even w/o Hank!!

  39. If the Rangers sign Shanahan, I swear to God I will not watch another Ranger game until he AND Sather are gone. I will not suffer fools, gladly or willingly.

  40. Much like tangoing, it takes two to trade. And there aren’t too many GMs who are dumb enough to accept a ton of s—t for an ounce of gold.

    BEAUTIFULLY SAID

  41. SORRY IF CAPS ANNOY YOU. there, is that better? can u please explain to me how caps bother you? i dont get it

  42. Dubi is not a 3rd liner, Callahan is. Dubi has moves, he just is in a bad spot right now. Callahan on the otherhand thinks he is Jagr by makes dumb moves at the blue lines. He doesnt have any moves and most of the time he loses the puck. Dubi will come out of this.

  43. i know, those big letters were makin me nervous. my eyes didnt know what was goin on! na i just accidentally pressed caps lock and forgot to turn em off. lol how it bothers people though. losin my car keys bothers me. wat ching the rangers d get bent over every night bothers me, my ex wife bothers me, caps lock, ohhhh man that just pushed me over the top!!! im in the red zone baby!!!! AHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  44. CAKEWALK

Would you really ?? You can watch Nyr for all those horrible seasons before the lockout, but if this team signs one 40 year old guy, you’d stop watching ? Kinda weird, but eh. I guess if you’re into other sports you can do that. I cant, not unless there’s some major camel-toe action on beach volleyball, or the long legs of Sharapova shining.

Im not much of a b-ball, f-ball, baseball kinda guy. Just hockey and chick sports.

Speaking of which, anybody watch Womans Curling at the Olympics in 06 ? Team Russia was fuggin awesome. Babes all over the place. US, and Canada was alright, but Team Russia was on fire.

  45. cally dumps n chases pretty well, he doesnt try to fiddle with it like some of our other players. at least he goes forward with the puck and not back.

  46. onecupin67years on

Graves9 change your name you aren’t worthy of the moniker Graves , grave you can have.

  47. hey orr i was in the grocery store today and was in the magazine aisle and was checkin out the new maxim. they got some hot russian chick named olga kurylenko or somethin like that on the cover. check her out man, absolutely delicious!!!!!!!!

  48. Brandon Dubinsky has SIGNIFICANTLY more talent then Nigel Dawes, Ryan Callahan and Peter Prucha combined. Not to mention, he’s the only one with size, and still growing mind you.

This is his SECOND year in the league. The term “sophmore slump” is commonly used b/c it is something that occurs fairly frequently.

If you watch him skate, both with and without the puck, he can do things on the ice that most guys can’t. He has tremendous lower body strength and a rifle of a shot that he doesn’t use nearly enough.

The kid WILL be a star. Maybe not this year, but pretty soon.

Don’t put him in the conversation of Dawes.

  49. orr i had the pleasure of meeting a hot russian model back home in ny. that was one of the good things when you have a hot(now ex) wife because they hang out with other even hotter chicks. i used to love when i got home from work and that russian babe was over. that was 3 years ago i still have her in my spankbank

  50. Why are a few of you so down on Cally? He plays every shift like it’s his last shift (punk rock), he has 9 goals this year, hits, is physical, and a sparkplug. The fans really like him too. He’s scored some big goals as well. He’s only getting better, and could turn into the perfect 20G-20A supporter/grinder for the likes of Zherdev/Anisimov/Grachev/Gomez.

Dubi is doing fine, he’s not scoring a ton but should have a big 2nd half like last year, and what’s the big deal if he only gets 40 points? It’s less of a cap hit.

Once again; the future is Anisimov/Grachev/Bobby Sags/Del Zotto/Hagelin with Dubi/Cally/Staal/Girardi/Dawes/Zherdev and hopefully Korpo keeps improving and can turn into a poor man’s Juri Lethonen/John Madden/Jay Pandolfo, if some combo of Weisse/Dupont/Byers/Soryal turn into the 3rd and 4th line grinders, and if Sauer and Gaulton can stay healthy and this Kundratek kid is any good, all the Rangers have to do is add a sniper to the mix and they’re good.

  51. dont get me wrong doobs is a better all around player and will be awesome for us in the future but dont sit there and tell me that u cant put dawes in a conversation with doobs. theyre both good, dawes is a small guy but hes still got good potential

  52. dubi > dawes

there’s a reason why everyone who’s rumored to make a trade with us wants dubi.

  56. if i had to choose id pick doobs over dawes too ok, but dawees showed some flashes of his skill last year and could turn out to be a good player with us. its just that we need some size on the wings and he unfortunately doesnt have it.

  57. And for the hat trick…
If it’s any consolation Nasty, I thought you were a “floppy pu**sy before knowing that.

lol he set himself up for that one beer!

  58. czechthemout – In my opinion, the problem with Renney’s system is that Sather and other talent evaluators, like Perry Pearn (Redden), have failed to find the right players to fill it. Even though Renney stresses total team defense and “five in the picture,” the forwards would have more freedom if the defensemen did their job more often. This is why Prucha sits on the bench despite his fiery attitude and hard hitting. This is why we are lucky to have Zherdev close to a point per game. While Renney stresses defense, he still needs to think about offense, since he is the head coach. We can see this with some of the passes that come out of our defensive zone, but a lot of the time, the forwards have to collapse towards the goal farther than Renney probably wants because the defense in untrustworthy. If the wings were allowed to do the job they are supposed to, guarding the opposing team’s defensemen, they would be in better position for offense. However, some of the players we have run around in the defensive zone and get nervous, so others need to be there to help them from not turning over the puck. This is just my opinion because I am a Renney supporter. When the team plays well, you can see his system working well, even though it doesn’t usually result in many goals because we don’t have true two-way players.

I am still puzzled as to why Larry Brooks states in his article today that Shanahan took a discount to sign with the Rangers.

  59. Dawes shows up once every 15 games? No comparison with Dubi, Malik showed flashes of skill during that shootout goal, did that make a difference??

Cally is good at dumping and chasing, but enough with the moves, you dont have any.

  60. all of you should get off of dubis dick he is not that great he played with one of the best players ever in the history or the NHL last year hence his great…oh wait decent production let’s trade this guy for a legit scorer before teams realize he isn’t that great, “i would love to get kovalchuk but ugh i deff wouldn’t give up dubi for him” really? you guys are fools, he’s in the same league as callahan or dawes, their all decent players with 20 goal tops potential, but your right guys giving up one of those guys up for a twenty something year old 50 goal scorer deff would be dumb “sarcasm”

  61. This team wont be a contender until guys like Callahan, Dubinsky, Dawes actually come in to their own as players. We really need secondary scoring extremely bad and its not helping buying free agents every year. Our defense needs to be completely revamped, Michal Rozsival and Wade Redden were two of the dumbest contracts…ever. We need size, speed, skill, in both areas. We lack size up front. We lasck speed and skill in the back. It’s a problem.

  62. BART

Kovalchuk is a hell of a player, but he isn’t that great defensively, and coughs the puck up a lot. We already have to deal with that with Nicky Z, and 5 of our 6 D-men.

He’s damn good, but i wouldn’t be willing to trade major pieces of the teams future for him. Mabye just one, but not 3 or 4, along with a 1st round pick, which is what Waddell will probably want.

He wont get traded though, at least that’s what Waddell’s saying, but you never know these days.

  63. if atlanta would go for dubi prucha callahan fritche roszival and a 2nd round pick maybe for kovalchuk and exelby i would do that in a heart beat, we have the equivalent of callahan in hartford named rissmiller same kind of player, and kovalchuk is what 25 he would be the future, atleast i know what im getting

  64. there are 2 untouchables on this team thats Lundqvist and Stall…………and way down here ………..is Dubinski,Lets see who we get before we say no to any trade from Dubi on down.

but i just don’t understand everyones infatuation with dubinsky, yeah he’s a swell player so is callahan and so is dawes their all swell players haha but their not future saviors of the rangers..maybe they are let’s just say the damn renney system is to blame for all our troubles
    let’s fire renney!!!
    yayay

  66. i would take wojtek wolski for dubi straight up actually idk im just still mad we took korpikoski over him in the draft, we would be undefeated in the shootout right now

  67. I’ve been sayin that since the middle of last year, the system sucks,He got his players to make it work and it dosen’t,fire him or change the system,BEFORE YOU START TRADING OUR YOUNG GUYS.

  68. that wouldn’t happen though, a better question would be, who would other teams be willing to trade for dubi straight up

  69. I would get rid of the whole team in order to get the guys i want in return, Crosby, Malkin, Ovechkin, and Vinny. Keep Henrik, Staal, maybe Dubi.

  70. spider – re your 5:04 post

shanny did us no favors cap wise going from total salary + bonus of $ 4 mm to $ 5.2 mm (and coming off an injury to boot). brooks is a fool for thinking otherwise

  71. What is not to love about Russians is their most dishonest, ingenuious, con-artist mentality in the whole world. Try email contact with a Russian craigslist ‘Babe’ some time. You and 200 other saps get the same email response, every time, until you cough up personal information she and her syndicate can take to the bank. Russia broke 56 international treaties they signed, over the years. Good luck dealing with the scum of the earth.

  72. pavel
haha yeah i was going of his past stats i didn’t realize he top ten in the league in scoring with 17 goals

  73. Renney is going to look foolish if he trades Dubi only to watch him turn into a goal-a-gamer for his new team. We fans wanted, or thought we needed, Sundin, b/c no Ranger is “that kind” of scorer – a pure scorer, or a sniper, insert your synonym for prolific here. But I don’t think ANYONE (yes caps) will be “that kind” of scorer under Renney’s system. Sundin would have been a flop.

  74. hi speed – don’t see dubi being traded. also don’t see him breaking the bank in his next contract which is somewhat of a good thing so we won’t lose Z or someone because of that.

  75. Hi Joe – I agree w/ you, I don’t think he will be either. Not for the next few years. Not until the CBA is renegotiated. After that, everything will be on the table – every contract, every player, every team… every ticket price….

  76. hey dr house — just curious, are you building a hockey team or a modeling agency with that wish list???

  77. CAKE

Eh, im not into that online stuff. To weird for me.

    BART

You must be an alcoholic if you think Rismiller is as good as Cally. No fuggin way, that guy is useless, and belongs in Hartford. He cant even crack 10 goals, Cally can at least put up 20. At least i think he can, i don’t know aboot anyone else.

  78. orr – i think rissmiller is actually doing well in hartford. that goes to prove ahl stats are vastly overrated.

  79. BART

I said trade Dubi 2 months ago when everyone thought he was the next Bobby Clarke. His trade value will never get that high again. And frankly, with Anisimov and Grachev in the rear view mirror, what would be the big deal parting with him? He isn’t gonna break the bank next year I will tell you that. The Rangers may just have to keep him now, because he will be a 3rd line center at best and only cost the Rangers $750k-$850k. He will get no raise.

  80. Stall, Henke, and Zherdev would be the only Rangers that should be considered untouchable. . . . and I ain’t so sure about Z.

  81. how is that list a modeling agency?, Malkin is gross as anything. I wish we did have one of those players on our team though.

  82. Re: Sundin, It’s all about the freeken money. It’s always about the money in pro sports. Every thing else is bull crap. Of course the salaries of (2) under- achieving munchkins & Sather over paying Rozy and Redden (What a waste Wade is)didn’t help in our not signing Sundin. Can’t wait for Vancouver to come to the Garden. What a reception. Need to get Sanny back asap.

  83. Dubi will get no more then 1.5 million next season.

Zherdev, no more than 4 million (Naslunds contract) i dont think he will purge the team that he likes because he knows we can send him right back to Columbus or maybe Atlanta this time.

My 2 year plan (strictly personnel wise and excluding draft picks and such to make the deals go through) would be to:

This year = 1. Trade Prucha, Fritsche, Rissmiller to get a decent tough D-man … Brendan Witt is unhappy on the Isle i hear?? 2. Sign Shanny as a band-aid through this season.

Off-season = 1. re-sign Dubi for no more than 1.5 mill/ multi year and Zherdev for 4 mill/ multi year. 2. Re-sign everyone else (except Kalinin) to 1 YEAR DEALS as long as there are no drastic increases. 3. Give Korpikoski a slightly reduced salary. 3. Sign Brian Gionta to a 1 year/ 2.5 million dollar salary to play with Gomez again. 4. Fill rest of holes with Wolfpackers (Potter, Fahey and Anisimov come to mind)

End of next season = 1. make a play for Kovalchuk when he becomes a UFA, and we have the cap room from Naslund, Mara, and Gionta’s (depending on how he plays with Gomez) contracts are all up. 2. Staal and Girardi will need to be resigned as well depending on their play.

  84. I disagree.. I think Dubi will get at least 3.5m and Zherdev will get offered at least 6m (if it goes that far)… other GM’s know how good Z is gonna be.. my question is this:

Let’s say Sather buys out Redden in the summer… what’s the cap penalty for the duration of the contract?

  85. somerset – remember to factor significant drop in the cap in 2 yrs with small decrease next yr as well (small means $ 1 mm or $ 2 mm)

  86. zZzZ 13 ZzZz rules!! ....says Greg L. on

OK OK i’m getting a little annoyed over here . DUBINSKY is our prospect!!! Half of you idiots were saying last year and the year before ,,Play Dubinsky , play Dubinsky…well , hes here and hes playing. Enough said .

Dubinsky is a UN-TOUCHABLE !! yeah lets trade away another Marc Sarvad , or doug weight. Anyone who says to trade Dubinsky is a air-head!! Plain and simple.

Marc Staal is UN-TOUCHABLE . Nic Zherdev is UN-TOUCHABLE. Hendrick Lunqvist is un-touchable. Yes our core group is Staal ,Zherdev, Dubinsky and Hank.

  87. Re: earlier posts, Callahan throws more checks on a daily basis than the entire team. He makes some mistakes but he comes to play every night. Sign Shanny

  88. greg – that’s fine. just don’t suggest trading for kovalchuk or another star without giving up a so called untouchable. i’m sorry but rozy, kalinin and prucha won’t do it.

  89. All you have to do is watch Dubinsky to realize how much talent he has. I don’t compare Dawes with Dubinsky, and I don’t compare Callahan with him either. But I consider Callahan a keeper, and I consider Dawes a maybe okay player who I don’t think is labelled a keeper yet, and Dubinsky a guy you would regret trading. All I know is it bugs me watching him and seeing that he does not have that confidence he had earlier, forget about the Jagr factor, Dubi played with real purpose early in this season, not that long ago. If it is a slump, I hope somebody tries to help him get out of it.

It’s possible it is a sophomore slump, as some suggest. If so okay, but the longer the same kind of play goes on, the more

  90. GREG L

Yup, good points. It makes me sick watching Savard in Boston. And look at old man Weight, who i think is in the top 10 in PP points, i could be wrong there, but i know he’s been damn good on the Isles PP.

Dubi, and Staal will hopefully be the next Captain of this team. One of the two.

Look at Jeff Carter, the Philly Flowers tried to trade him last season, they didn’t, he stepped up in the final games of the season, and look at him now, he is number 2 in goals, and is probably gonna get 40-50 goals 80-90 points.

    Patience !!!

  91. Pavel,
there is no way Dubinsky is getting 3.5- if Sather was smart he would negotiate the deal as soon as possible- before dubi starts putting up points. Supposedly Dubi loves NY but you never know. He’s a heart and soul kind of kid and I could see him taking a ‘pay cut’ for a couple of years if Sather outlines the future of the team and explains that he’ll get that big paycheck in due time.-reminds me of hank taking that 4.75 last year so we had room to obtain Gomez and Drury.
As for Nik Zherdev, he’ll command anywhere from 4-6 million dollars.. I can see him being a hard player to contain especially because he already had contract disputes in Columbus. The good thing is that he is a restricted free agent so if we can retain him or someone signs him on an offer sheet- we’ll get compensation back. Obviously I would love to retain him- but I wouldn’t go over five million to do so.

  92. As for the buyout of redden.. I think it would be 2/3 of the remaining contract divided by double of the remaining years left.. so it would be 32.5 million dollars left Multiplied by .66(giving you 2/3 left)=21.45 divied by 10(2 * 5 years left) would be a cap hit of 2.145 cap hit for 10 years.
I’m pretty sure that’s how it works.. but i could be wrong.

  93. when cba expires they might be able to buy out redden with no cap penalty at all, only 2 1/2 yrs away.

  94. What would signing an old guy who can’t skate or shoot anymore do for the team besides gut some of the younger players currently on the roster? You want to mortgage some pieces of the future to make the team worse? You mean you don’t understand that signing Shanahan makes this team WORSE. Now, and next year, and beyond – W-O-R-S-E.

    W-O-R-S-E

  95. Sorry for a possibly dumb question. Can anyone explain what the the option to ‘re-open’ the CBA this year actually means? If the CBA does not expire until 2010-2011, what would re-opening provide?

  96. top – good question. players have right to do so and would have to exercise by sometime in spring. maybe (key word) it strikes last 2 yrs of cba either completely or allows a modified cba to be done now. can’t see the players doing it unless they think that is only way the league survives in these bad economic times.

i would fully expect the next cba to close some loopholes and in effect lower salaries (like no longer being allowed to park high salaries in the ahl)

  97. LI joe,
I’m shocked Sanguinetti doesn’t have most PP points.. I guess their Powerplay is just as bad as the rangers.

Ottawa got blown out again. If they continue at this pace they’re they’ll probably be looking for some kind of trade.

  98. Li joe,
I’m not so sure of that.. the owner of the team said a couple of days ago that he “fully expects the sens to be in the top four in the conference by the end of the season”

  99. LI Joe – I’ve only recently started to look at this stuff.
My experience with a union, and I used to belong to one years ago, is that beyond representation to an employer, it must also mediate compensation as it applies to its members. So it is extra (outside facing the other party) and intra (inside between the members).
    Thanks for the help.

  100. The Senators seem to have a closed door meeting every week. To me, it seems almost like panic mode. I don’t think Melnyk has any clue what has gone wrong with the Senators, and therefore anything he has to say about a recovery is pretty suspect to me.
Look at their parts and you wonder why they are in trouble.

  101. I just think that if there aren’t results in the next week or so- then melnyk will pressure Murray to shake things up a bit.

  102. Chris
they will have to do something, though I have no idea what that is. Maybe Murray wants to shed some players. If I was a Sens fan, I would want a shakeup.

  103. Looks like we will limp through the holidays with this group. Hopefully, we can limit the Sharks to 4 goals and score one or two.

  104. zZzZ 13 ZzZz rules!! ....says Greg L. on

( LI JOE ) I agree with what you said , hard to trade our rags for a big diamond .I can’t say ive said we should trade for him …i just can’t see Atl letting him go . Kovalchuk needs a change in senery but like ( Orr) said earlier that we can’t have 2 puck crazy unperdicable guys …puck would be everywhere ,,,maybe thats a good thing?

Dream on , we can’t get Kovalchuk everyone .
(Orr) I know what ya mean about Savard and Weight..Can’t let Dubi go ..and yeah Staalsiee or Dubiii as Captain . Good example ’bout Carter , yeah patience .

( cake walk ) you last post about Shanny could be kinda right …but our GM has itches that need to be scratched. Remeber he traded Gretzy when Wayne was deemed un-tradable ..crazy sick . If there is a FREE AGENT or a wild card player ( like when we got Zherdev) Glen Sather will have his dirty nose in it. If you want a team (Cake walk) that wont pursue older vets ya made need to cheer on some other team. Rangers are a big ticket and Sather is side-show owner waiting to pounce on the next biggest act.

  105. cakewalk- the future is already up, nobody else down in Hartford is good enough to be in the line up, you make it seem like a Sid the kid is down there. As far as i know Dawes, Prucha, Fritsche, Voros can be moved. They are nothing, actually i cant stand watching them. I like watching Betts out there more than Voros’s line cause i cant stand him. He has some good games but other wise is invisible, i dont know who started that comparison between him and Aves, but boy that was stupid. Whoever they pick up you can still say how worse can they be. Slats picked up Ozolinsh and that sucked, it made the team worse, where were you then?

  106. zZzZ 13 ZzZz rules!! ....says Greg L. on

Vancouver drools over Swedes …like a slobering dog as he walches his owner eat Mcdonalds. Sedin twins just HAD to be drafted together on the same team and Vancouver traded up just to do it. Naslund was thier prime steak and they made him captain and treated him like god. Now $undin is thrown a hunk of loot after Naslund got the hell out of there!!

Why didn’t Naslund tell Sundin why HE got outta Vancouver? Maybe Sundin and Naslund don’t get along that well? I dunno ..but now the Canucks have a TOP Swede and watch , he’ll be captain.

Vancouver would trade Luongo for Hank in a heart beat!! Thet would say NOOOO , but we know what those swedish lovers would want..our Hank and Naslund , the cream of the crop!!! ( can’t count forsberg cuz he is too crippled)

  107. Joe in DE (actually in NJ tonight) on

You guys are all smoking crack. All this talk of trades is giving me gas. Dubinsky? Really?! Callahan = Rissmiller?! The biggest issue this team has is lack of a decent system and no accountability; and all that stems from the coaching. Not every AHL allstar can hack it in the NHL. I have a distinct feeling that if we ditched Renney, Pearn and Pellino, suddenly we become a much more prolific offensive team and still be defensively minded. Every player that comes here underachieves. I can’t think of one player on our roster that is OVERachieving. Maybe a couple are playing to their ability. We trade good young talent, they’ll go elsewhere and show us how wrong we are. The replacement we get will inevitably underachieve as well.

Prucha is a prime example, and if not for Renney’s “system”, we still have Jagr scoring with impunity for a 4 mil/per cap hit.

  108. How does a guy like Prucha go from scoring 30 goals in one season to almost zero in such a short amount of time?

  109. System? I’ve got a system for Renney. It’s called dump the puck, chase the puck, shoot the puck. And run over the other team’s goalie once in a while just for added measure.

  110. Does anyone realize that the Rangers are on pace to score 220 goals this year (219.76 to be exact), thats 7 more goals then last year. . . Not too shabby of team team that no longer has Jagr, Shanny, and Straka, and replaced them with a bunch of “underachieving” players.

Our team is fine, i think we could use some minor tweaking come trade deadline time but until then we should sit tight and enjoy leading the toughest division in the entire league.

Hopefully we can grab a tough D-man (Witt), and a low-priced scoring winger (Shanny, Vermette, etc.) to gear up for the Playoffs but NO MAJOR PRICED TALENT is needed this season … MINOR TWEAKING is key!!!

  111. Agree with somerset. Alot of these young guys need a little more seasoning before they become NHL stars. Let’s not make the same mistake of letting guys like Amonte, Weight, Granato, Savard, etc…go because of impatience. A tough D-man and a low-priced scoring winger is the way to go for the rest of this season.

    100% spot on.

You people disgust me. This team is anally f*cked until Renney/Pearn goes. And even after that, we are STILL royally fucked with 4 awful contracts… we cant afford another big “star”…how dumb are some of you?

I’m glad Sundin went to VAN, but the reason is because Slats couldnt get it done, no one wants our SHIT… especially not from Glen.

  113. Smilin’Bob Puke-up scored most of those goals as Jagr’s Right Wing and a good portion were scored on the Power Play. Thats how he goes from from 30 to 0. He’s not a NHL player.

  114. Who ever thought up the name “Puke-up” for Prucha, give your head a shake. Why not show some respect for a person, you creeps.

  115. Makes sense. Prucha can’t do it himself, so he can’t finish. I feel kind of bad for him because he always seems to be trying so hard. He gets slapped around an awful lot too.

  116. By ‘creeps’ I was referring to the guys posting immediately before and after my post. Inferior genetic material always shouts the loudest.

  117. You should know topcorner. Such profound posts. You’re also a real class salty. Your posts reek from gas

  118. i don’t know if anyone saw, but Selanne went down with a nasty laceration early in the Ducks/Oilers game. He was checked and fell onto his right skate with his left thigh. he has at least 8 stitches and has returned to Anaheim for an MRi and evaluation.

The vid and fantasy spin over at my site:

    http://www.BucketofPucks.com/bucket_of_pucks/2008/12/injuries-galore-in-the-nhl-and-as-usual—including-some-breaking-news-with-teemu-selannes-8-stitch-laceration-get-the-la.html

  119. If he wasn’t on Jagr’s line 3 yrs ago he would probably have half that production. I was a fan of his back then because he always tried. But he is what he is. I don’t honestly understand this cult following Prucha has. Again, he’s a choppy skater and although he’s has good hands he always releases his shot too late. God, he tries but he’s too small and can’t take a check. Salty, we already have a team that although fast is far too small. Fritcshe deserves more playing time and so does Korpi.

  120. Re: overachieving. Think hard Salty. What about Betts. Because of him we have one of the pk units in the NHL

  121. Dr. House: “Nobody else in Hartford is good enough to be in the lineup.” BALONEY – Sauer, Potter, and Sanguinetti could spell Rozsval, Kalinen, and Redden right now, at far lesser cost and far greater potential. And you mean to say you cannot spell A-N-I-S-I-M-O-V? He could come in here right now and do at least as good a job as the inconsistent Gomez is doing, probably better, given his size and the giant career leap forward he has taken this season. Others, like Brodie and Parenteau would not be an embarrassment.

The biggest trouble with this organization is that it looks to the past – the Sundin’s and Shanahan’s of the world, instead of the present/future which is knocking on its doorstep but it refuses to see. Old junk is NOT the answer. Giving talented kids the opportunity to mature is the answer and, not to blow my own horn, but a year ago this time I was touting the near-term future prospects for Chicago and Boston, given their young talent (as well as their system) already in place. I now make Boston co-favorite, along with San Jose, to win the Cup this year. Wish the Rangers had the same vision the forward-looking organizations in this league have. Sather and Renney are gutless, in addition to being blind.

  122. Re: overachieving. Think hard Salty. What about Betts. Because of him we have one of the pk units in the NHL

    …..

Not even sure where this came from, but i’ll play.

Betts? I’m a huge Betts fan.

However, he’s a 4th liner. WHO GIVES A FUCK your 4th liner is giving his all when Drury, Gomez, Naslund, Redden and Roszival are fucking invisible?

Aside from that, *Lundqvist* is more of a reason why we “have a pk unit in the league” as you retardedly put it.

Keep diggin’, Watson. You’re desperate to be right about something, arentcha?

  123. One line says it all in Larry Brooks’ article: “if anything can be undermining a 22-11-2 team”.
Everyone sits around and moans about his and that and how they’d trade a for b and not have signed someone. The fact remains that despite some obvious flaws we’re still a pretty good team

  124. onecupin67years on

There are good 22-11-2 teams and OK 22-11-2
    teams.
Every night the Rangers seem to struggle , if kalinin and redden and roszival played better this team would have cushy lead ,take away 2-4 losses = 4 to 8 pts.
The point is even though they’re in first place there’s room for improvement and Sather is like the rich wife maxing out her husbands credit cards with his cap act.

  125. Cakewalk – I don’t post here too much and now I remember why. Are you serious about the kids in Hartford? First of all, Sauer is coming off two serious injuries and has yet to log his first AHL season; ditto with Sanguinetti minus the injuries. But ANISIMOV taking over for GOMEZ?!? You must be joking. You obviously didn’t watch Ani during training camp. As it stands now, the Rangers will be lucky if he evolves into their third-line center NEXT YEAR. And the rest: Parenteau is a career minor leaguer(Think: Giroux, Wiseman, etc.), and Dupont can barely cut it in a league that Patrick Rissmiller is tearing up.

You point out Boston and Chicago, but you don’t point out how bad those respective teams have been in recent history. They’ve got top talent pulled from top rounds in the draft. NY has nothing like that…

…on a side note, am I the only one that got nostalgic after watching that Jagr video? Sure wish the big fella was back on this team. In fact, I’d argue they’d be pretty darn good with Jagr making the $8 million Redden is collecting right now.

Re: overachieving. Think hard Salty. What about Betts. Because of him we have one of the pk units in the NHL

sry to rain on your parade but hank is one of the MAIN reasons our pk is #1

  127. i think we all need to relax.

there’s a lot of issues with this teams play but something will give sooner or later. slats has made deadline or close to deadline deals in the second half of the season for how many of the past years now? something has to be brewing. i still think one of the easiest moves this team can make to better themselves is waiving kalinin and replacing him with potter. sure, we’ve only seen potter play one game but he can’t possibly be as bad as kalinin.

  128. our pk still gives up a lot of chances down low and our pk looks worse on occasion than other teams. maybe thats because our pp is pathetic but still hank is the main reason why. betts is a great defensive player and i really like him because he hardly takes a penalty and is consisent with his play night in night out. even though hes not the one who really were depending on to be consistent but he still has 4 goals, 1 less than doobs. i mean i know doobs will get his game back n score more than betts its just maybe betts doesnt have the pressure as alot of these younger guys do and he benefits fromthat. but we can all agree that betts has been great for us so far. another thing about prucha, why he isnt playing is because we have so many players already like him but are better defensively. i love pruchs, hes a awesome guy he just needs to put on 20 lbs and work out like a madman and maybe he can get back on this team on a nightly basis. hes got skill and id rathner watch him play than dawes. 30 goals cannot be cdonsidered a fluke. i dont care he still had 22 the next year with less playin time

  129. I love how people assume things will just *pop* and fall into place… it didn’t happen last year and it won’t happen this year unless someone cracks Renney in the jaw. It does’t matter wat players we have, as has been said before *WE HAVE AN IMPRESSIVE ROSTER AS IS*… leave it to NY fans to perpetually salivate for more big names to fix the problems of this black hole of talent.

For the first time in a LONG TIME we have the potential to be a very strong team and instead we have a coach that wants to just “survive” rather than be predators.

  130. Dubinsky is playing with two checkers. They need to get him a goal scored on his right side. Kalinin needs to be replaced. Rangers don’t give up a lot of goals and he has the worst +/- in the league. He is on for 41% of Rangers goals against.

  131. u knowq what boggles the mind is that after prucha scored that tremendous tying goal against shitsberg, he played 1 more game i think against montreal and then was benched again. didnt prucha play ok in that game? i cantremember if he did anything warranting a benching but i can think of a certain high paid center who shouldve been

hey i think doobs has to be the one who gets himself a goal scored ok. on the right side? huh?

  133. SMILIN BOB

Jason Blake, and Brian Gionta scored 40 goals once. Hard to believe with the way they’re playing now. It happens, its depressing.

It doesn’t help that Renney shits on the kid every fuggin time. He’s such a scum bag, kid plays a great game against the Pens, and a good game against the Habs, but noo, its not good enough to keep him in the lineup. Stupid asshole !!

    JOE

I know he’s putting up decent numbers in the AHL, but that’s all he can do. He wont do what Cally is doing up here. The thought is ridiculous, the kid is a spark plug, and hits what ever he can, from Gionta’s, to Chara’s. He gets into fights every now and then, and like i said, he can possibly score 20 goals. Way better than that waste Rismiller.

    CAKE

Signing Shanny isn’t the end of the world. We don’t have any prospects that seem ready to make the jump up here. Shanny is “old and slow”, so what, its not like the speed of this team is soo amazing that we’re destroying teams, and making them look like turtles. We struggled to beat the Kings in OT, and the struggling Sabs just blew them out 5-0, with Labby in net, who was eventually pulled.

Im sick of the speed talk, its not helping that this teams so fast, cause the last time i checked they’re in the bottom of the league in offense.

Maybe Artie could possible be ready to get a few games in, just to play up here and get a taste, but how is that gonna happen ?? Danny F, and Pruchs are healthy scratches, and id oubt Renney will bring him or anyone up.

As for Korpedo. I don’t think anyone here wanted him up here as much as i did, but it wouldn’t be the end of the world if he got sent down. Maybe it’ll fire him up for next season.

  134. Mike in IA You’re out of context. I was referring to an earlier post by Salty when he said ” I can’t think of one player on our roster that is OVERachieving”.(1:13am Sat Morn) I responded by stating Betts is overachieving. Your 100% right. There’s no doubt that without Lunquist we’re screwed.

  135. Zherdev Parise

    Naslund Gionta
    Drury Langenburnner

Look at the top six(arguably) for both the Rangers and the Devils.. I would say they are certainly comparable.. The difference? about .65 more goals for per game for the devils.

  136. loneranger, I didn’t even say that… I was quoting someone else. Although I agree, there are maybe 3-4 players who are OVERachieving and NONE of them are who we NEED to be over achieving. Sorry man, but you’re just a dumb dick.

  137. WITH LUNDQVIST we are screwed, too. Rangers have one of the worst defensive alignments in the NHL, starting with Kalinen, who is the WORST D in the entire league. Damn, Malik, Backman, Strudwick, Ozone, where are you when we need you?

  138. TDCHI thank you , i agree totally with you! Some guys think that everybody down in Hartford is the next Crosby or Malkin. Really Absurd if you ask me. Speed isnt a factor anymore, sure as heck Brian Rolston is no speed demon or Bobby Holik. I just dont get how the Devils do it though? win when their team is nothing…..,

What have you got to lose so take a chance, its not like Dawes, Pru, score or whatever. Who knows whatever happens it may light a spark in the team, a la Sundin this past week.

Of course i would love to have Jaromir Jagr back!

  139. i never really hated Malik at all, its all the fans who try to sound cool at the games and boooooo him. Now they boo Rozy, way to boost some confidence into the guy.

The defense is a little shakey, something is always wrong with every team in any sport.

  140. “I just dont get how the Devils do it though? win when their team is nothing…”

“its all the fans who try to sound cool at the games and boooooo him.”

    …..

two more *priceless gems* from the dr.

Devils win because they have cutthroat accountability and a real system in place. Didn’t they also strip their Captain his letter last season when he wasnt producing? I’d like to see that happen in NY.

As for Malik, if you actually liked how he played… enough said…. keep posting, you are hilarious. I’m “sure” people booed Malik cause it’s the cool thing to do and not cause he was visibly AWFUL.

Try this: People sweat Drury’s sack cause _that’s_ the cool thing to do.

  141. orr – i was just sating rissmiller’s ahl stats show how overrated those are – in round about way saying parenteau is like that a career AHLer

chris – there has to be a better choice for 6th guy – even cally, but anyone but dawes

  142. Drury – 25 goals last yr and on pace for 23 or 24 this yr. kills penalties and strong defensive presence. have him on my team anytime.

  143. wasn’t Renney’s team in Vancouver offensively challenged…especially on the PP? Does anyone else see a pattern here?

The Devils are scorching hot right now. And sheesh…look at who they have on their roster for heavens sake. They give an honest effort each and every night. You gotta respect how Lou gets the most out his players. Sutter has done a terrific job. Have you seen the PP lately? They were buzzing last night. Set plays and all.

  144. JOE

Ohhh, okay. Yeah, he’s like Crosby down there. Just goes to show you how you cant compare the AHL to the NHL.

    HOUSE

I agree, people do try to act all cool when they boo. I seen it, some loser trying to impress his gf who looked like Rocky Dennis from the movie Mask. He says “Ohh, i bet i can go down there and score goals, this team sucks, why do i root for them. booo”, ugh have another beer you fat fugg !!! And root for the Devs !

Did anyone ever see this video of this fan making fun of Steve Sullivan when he got hit with a puck, and Sullivan see’s him, then later in the game the puck flips over the glass and hits that same fan, and he’s bleeding, and Sullivan skates over to him and points and laughs at him. Its hilarious, and perfect karma. Its on youtube somewhere.

Anyway, its sad that the Isles have a better PP than Nyr. Its really embarrassing, all they have his no name players, and old guys.

This system is the problem, get rid of Renney, and the system goes with him. The Devs were great on the PP last night, and have been for a while. They used to suck just like Nyr, if they can change, why cant Nyr ?? Its pathetic.

Actually Nyr scored PP goals, in 3 straight games, but the last was a Penalty Shot, and before that was a rewarded empty net goal, so it doesn’t really count.

  145. Hard for me to see how Sanguetti can be successful at the NHL level without gaining at least 10 pounds, I’m trying to picture a guy who is 190 lbs trying to move a 230 lb Bobby Holik from the front of the net…. not likely.

  146. Sudden loss of memory Salty- get your crap together. If hot air were bucks you could underwrite our country with a massive bailout
