  3. NEWMAN

Yeah, im not gonna give anyone massive credit just cause they got a 2nd assist on a goal. But even if someone other than Pruchs, or Gomer touched that puck, it was a good play. And he did play good. But i don’t wanna sound like im defending him for his horrible play. And i agree, we didn’t go after what we needed in the off season, which wasn’t good.

  4. thanks for link tony

avery really screwed the pooch on this one… part of me would love to see him not get paid…would be fun and i think everyone he’s pissed off in the league would rejoice in that.

  5. “Prucha nets a pair on the PP.”

… wishful thinking. Renney would have to actually give Prucha time on the PP for that to happen

  6. Furthermore, We’d have to get pucks to the net on the PP, and not take ‘Too Many Men’ penalties while on the PP

I promise that if Prucha scores two goals tonight I will never post on here again!

If Prucha scores two goals, i wont post here again either.

  8. jason, Edward Fraser is nuts. right off the top of my head I can point to both Therien and Sutter, they’ve had a boatload of injuries and kept it afloat, can you imagine this team if Lunquist got hurt the way Martine and Fleury have? what a joke.

  9. wd40 sorry guys, to explain edward fraser is the guy on the Hockey News who put Renny in top three coaches. happy to give Tom credit for the PK, he deserves mention there without a doubt, but no way has he hd to go thru anything like therien and sutter w/injuries

Gotta get this off my chest! Joe Micheletti YOU ARE A ASSHOLE!!!!!!!! If I heard one more time about how Pru shouldve went down I was ready to run to the Garden and choke the Old Coot. Joe you sucked as a player and as an announcer you make me wanna puke. As much as Sam Rosen and his combover is a Garden yes man YOU take it to a new limit. Who cares what you have to say Retire to wherever you came from. And to cap it off when Pru scored you talk about how Renny had a hunch. I got a hunch about you SENILITY

Lmao one of the funniest and best posts in this blogs history.

  12. That guy must be drunk. Just cause a team is on top of their Conference doesn’t always mean the coach is the reason. He probably doesn’t even watch Nyr games, and is just taking a wild guess aboot the coaching. Pfff, moron.

I really hope someone catches Kovalev with his head down, and gives him a juicy concussion. He’s a dirty piece of shit, who is a master at sneaking an elbow without the ref catching it.

Cant wait to see how the Refs call the game. Our great PK will be put to the test tonight.

  13. Orr – Kovalev is great. Who didn’t like him during his first run in NY, when I lived in Pittsburgh he was awesome, and his second go around with the Rangers wasn’t that bad either.

Kovalev’s crazy puck handling skills and wicked shot are probably the top reasons I’m rooting for Zherdev.

I like to think the one thing he learned from Messier is to get those elbows up when someone tries to hit him!!

  14. JJP

Yeah, but even so it pisses me off when they don’t call that shit. Of course if Nyr does it, its called. I don’t like it.

Nyr bitched the Habs last year, it would be nice if they can continue that. They should have been 4-0 against them if not for that last game, but they played good against them.

Gotta watch those Russian freak twins. Kostitsyn’s, or how ever its spelt. They’re more creepy than the Sedin twins, especially the one with the blonde hair.

  15. Hockey has made it!!;
There were people in my office today;mostly women who normally talk about American Idol and celebrity couples and only talk sports if it has to do with their childrens youth leagues; talking about Sean Avery…
I swear if he wasn’t suspended these women would be searching their cablevisions for the next Stars game!! Driving up those miniscule Tv ratings

    I’m just sayin

  16. Boy, the rangers look like they are skating in quick sand and the Canadiens are skating down hill.

  17. This is embarrassing, the rangers look like a very slow team. This will be a blow out and lundqvist will not finish this game and it’s not Lundqvist’s fault.

  18. I’m sorry, but that was not the coaching staff. That was the players refusing to play like they did last night. They didn’t take the body at all. They still refuse to engage and play a 60 minute game.

  19. How about a new GM, not the idiot who gave Redden 6/6.5 mil and Rosival 4/5 mil and I’ve been saying this before the season started so I’m not banwagoning.

  20. I continue to be amazed at how the Ranger defensemen seem to have no idea how to play a 2-on-1. This time it was Mara —- good intentions, but committed way way too early.

Girardi was brutal in his own end. Redden always is brutal in his own end.

  21. This teams a joke.

I guess Gomer must be laughing aboot this, since last years shit fest was a joke to him also.

Hank keeps them in it, he does all he can, but this team still lets him get raped EVERY TIME !!!!

Voros takes a bad penalty and he’s in Renney’s “dog house”, why wasn’t Betts in his “dog house” when he took that lazy penalty that led to a 5 on 3 ?? I don’t understand how this jerkoff thinks. He’s just a moron.

And this team is retarded. Im sick of this shit, back up your goalie you fugg heads.

  22. The rangers will not go far in the playoffs with a bad power play, no consistent scoring and a not so good back line, especially Kalinin, rosival and redden. I know it looks good with the rangers record and all as of today but I don’t see where this team will be in the top 3 in the eastern conference at the end of the year. I have no faith in Sather to fix this either.

  23. Don’t forget that idiot Kalinin who raped his team after they were having a very good shift at 1-0. Unreal.

Im not even looking forward to this game, this is pathetic. I hope the Habs score another 2 goals, and then Zherdev scores 6 in the 3rd to win it !!!

Also i hope Orr knocks the piss out of Lacrackhead. Fuggin hate that tool.

  24. onecupin67years on

No use in complaining about ,coaching, overpaid free agents, sleepwalking players, etc, this is way it will be until moves are made.
I guess Sather is happy , they’re still in 1st place, and if the season ended today they would make the playoffs, so all is well but this team doesn’t seem the have the killer instinct needed for a cup.there is definitely room for improvement from these players and from trades.

  25. Look at Rob Blake. Guys pretty much a fuggin cave man, and he’s having a better year than any of the Rangers D, at his god damn age. Look at Boyle, ugh, it makes me sick. This D is half retarded.

Fire Renney, wake these whacky sons a bitches up !!

  26. When Hank skated to Renney and then skated away, I swear it looked like Renney shouted “fugg off” at him. Anyone else see that?

  27. Girardi, hit him with your purse why don’t you!

Again, the safest place in the world is to be an opponent in front of the Rangers net.

  28. I’ve posted here for awhile and I’ve never said this before, but wow, Tom Renney is absolutely killing this team. This team has so much offensive talent and yet somehow they are the worst offensive team in the league (or one of them). He tells them to fire pucks at the net from anywhere and get traffic. Watch the Habs though, mind you our D absolutely sucks, but they are patient and moving the puck around into dangerous areas and don’t just throw it on goal. They play pretty and it works. None of this “just shoot” method of Toms, move it around and go behind the net instead of floating a weak shot from the side.

  29. That 4th goal shouldn’t have counted, soft or not. Rules are rules, without them its fuggin anarchy, as Ralphie Cifaretto once said.

Nice to see them score on the PP, by JUST SHOOTING THAT MOTHERLESS FUGGIN PUCK !!! And Nicky Z made a sweet pass to Dawes. Nice to see him score after missing games. Hopefully they have a 3rd period left in them to make some magic happen, and do to these pricks what they did to Nyr last year.

I wonder if Redden is seriously injured, who might get the call for the next game ?

  30. Someone please answer this question, what is it that Sather does? Does he watch this team and the coaching? What else besides giving away ludicrous contacts to over the hill players? Hes collecting alot of money for nothing, if he worked for me he would have been fired a long time ago. This team is a failure of management and coaching, Dolan needs to look at this mess and fire these bums.

  31. If they can score 2 goals against the B’s with 7 mins left in the 3rd, and the same with the Pens in October, i don’t see why they cant do it against these assholes.

20 fuggin minutes of hockey. Is that so hard to do ??

  32. What i wanna know is what was said between Renney and Hank after the 1st, Renney looked pissed off after Hank skated and said something to him.

Hopefully it was something like “Why don’t you learn to coach, and fire this fuggin team up, cause clearly all the saves i make isn’t doing it, you soggy cottage cheese flavored puss”

  33. Gomez played 7 years on a team that played as good as a defensive system as any team ever has played and Gomez has come here and forgot everything he learned (at least on the defensive end) now he takes a dumb penalty.

  34. Gomez should have his A stripped after that third period he played. Thats unacceptable. Skating around without caring like that. There was still plenty of time left and hes stopping and just shooting the puck on goal from center ice and starting crap. Thats an embarassment.

And I’m gonna jump on the get rid of Renney bandwagon. EVERY good team plays fancy. EVERY good team. This team started playing that way and being patient and going around the net and circling and making pretty plays…and then that stopped. Notice, we played that style with Nylander and those guys, but since Nylander has been gone and Renney got “his team”, that hasn’t happened.

I wanted to say it was the players last year, but now I’m beginning to think its him. Even in wins, we don’t have dangerous scoring chances outside of when Zherdev tries to make something special happen (which is usually when we score). Its a joke. Stop just aimlessly throwing pucks on goal from the corners hoping for a deflection. Pass it around and make the other team move around and you’ll score a hell of a lot more as well as keep the other team off the board because you will be dominating puck possession.

This team has loads of offensive talent, but you can’t see it because of the teams current style.

  35. I’d like to say goodnight and once again a big middle finger to Red Dutton and his stupid curse.

  36. not a well-coached team, is all you can say. maybe not the worst coached team in the history of the NHL. but not a well-coached team.

  37. I just don’t understand the physical laxness in their own end. The Rangers’ play without the puck tonight was simply embarrassing.

  38. It’s like the team we saw last night and the team that played tonight had never met each other before, let alone played hockey together.

    No hits.

No intelligence with OR without the puck.

I don’t even know what to say anymore.

  39. zherdev is the best player on the team, and gomez can’t play with him either! maybe it wasn’t jagr. have to stop changing dubi’s linemates every game, he is lost.

  40. Sam and Joe were saying they were physically worn down from last game. Could be. MTL is a fast team. I’m the 69th post..heeeeelllz yeah!

  41. Hey guys

I have ALWAYS wondered this. Why are LQ’s pupils always so dilated I mean even when the light is on them???

  42. Even last night most of the players were doing the same BS stuff. They skate in and just shoot it on goal hoping it goes in. Thats not smart hockey, thats awful hockey. Its like “oh lets float one on goal and see what happens and we might get a goal”. Its the reason why their GF is so low.

Also the defensive system is a joke. Great to have 5 guys back, but not great when they leave everyone open.

  43. MAKO… i think it has do with him being really focused on the game…it takes a while for him to come down…

and there is one very common sign of meth use lol

  44. Sam and Joe can suck my youknowwhat, Baghdad Bobs is all they are. “physically worn down!,” yeah that’s a championship motto to hang your hat on. two games back to back, oh the horror

the rangers are fundamentally UNSOUND and won’t hit won’t hit, did i mention they won’t hit, in order to slow down a fast but skinny & beatable canadien team

  45. Renney has lost this team, change the coach or change the players. This is brutal, no one seems to care.

  46. there is no physical player on the rangers to hit and slow down a fast team. i guess orr would, if he could catch up to someone. what a waste of a roster spot he is.

  47. The Habs are even more skilled than the Pen(far more depth up front) yet the Rangers acted like they thought they wouldn’t have to throw the body, fight through checks and forecheck hard. Turnovers all over the place. The dmen backed up like crazy. They covered the wrong guys and really couldn’t keep up with the Habs speed. Two ways to slow down teams like that is to hit and backcheck hard neither happened. Outside of Zherdev none of the top forwards showed up. Almost everyone sucked but nobody more than guys like Gomez, Kalinin and Redden. Considering the lack of urgency that Redden plays with are we sure he’s hurt and just didn’t fall asleep in the lockerroom? Even if he doesn’t miss a game they need to call someone up from Hartford. Ship Fritsche down too if you have to. Pretty ugly game for a guy for Voros too( boy has the shine come off of him) Nice to ee Prucha show some emotion by dropping the gloves. Orr should have forced LaRaque to fight him. Hank was hung out to dry no question but he wasn’t exactly on top of his game. Pretty sad to see Carey Price reading cook books in his net throughout the game. The only two read tough shots he faced went in. If the Rangers aren’t ready to compete and play with grit on Sunday Calgary will run em out of the arena.

  48. people must agree that at this point, the rangers need a 5 game losing streak, in which they are outscored 25-0. thats what its going to take for things to get shaken up. sather will not fire renney, no matter how much its clamored for on blog message boards. but for the personnel changes we need (i.e. kalinin never wearing a rangers jersey ever, ever again), they’re going to have to get beat up, and badly. it sucks, but we need it right now.

  49. So much for the “change of scenery” for Mr. $6.5 million…. Yeah he went from farm house to Penthouse LOL BRING BACK MALIK!!!

  50. I’d like to point out that Dmitri Kalinin is -14 as of this writing.

Why the F is he on this team?

  51. by the way, bobby sangs has 14 pts for the pack. maybe it is time to call up a PP QB.
    just a thought.

  52. Audio

I just checked the +/- stats on NHL.com

Stamkos, De Vries, Bertuzzi, McDonald, Jovanovski, Brewer, Boyes and Brind’Amour are the only players who are worse. He’s in pretty good company LOL

  53. I stopped watching right after the 4th goal and switched to the World’s Ugliest Dog Competition on Animal Planet. It was a pretty good move, if I may say so.

quite honestly … honestly… can i smack u? or this is quite honestly isnt too honest?

    huh?

  55. I do like that Managment now knows that we need to get tougher by via trade . We show toughness with no Jordan TooToo like toughness. Rangers refused to give up and I don’t think we need a shake up …just need to add toughness and look at our defense to make some adjustments.

The Rangers are #1 in penalty killing so all we need to do is to be patient . Our team is good and maybe by playoffs it can be great . Time will tell so just relax everyone whos freaking out.

Hate to say it but when a team gets rattled every other night …the coach has to go ..even if hes a nice guy. Don’t flat out fire him …give him another role in the organization . We do need a change , not because Renny is so bad…it’s because the Rangers need a change . Tonight showed it. We have potential… it could be that coaching Renny style has grown stale. Happens alot in the NHL.

Long introducyions and playing the other night tend to wear on a team and the slow start showed it. Rangers are a good team andd soon will be great.

Ahh I could not bring myself to watch the Post Game show.

  59. One of these days, there will be a loud bang, and smoke and stuff that looks like hamburger…it will be the top of Henrik’s had blowing off. Remember, I said it first.

  60. onecupin67years on

so far it looks like the most of the free agent signings are a waste of money and the young blood isn’t improving ( dawes .cally, dubi etc

  61. to all the knuckleheads who think the press is tough on this team —- has there been ONE article written by any one on the beat (or Brooks or Greenberg or Staple in a column) that has adressed the Roszishit and Reddencrap signings this team made?

if the press was tough on this team those guys would have targets painted on their forehead and esp. on sather’s!

but the fact is that Glen sh!ts all over the reporters, refusing even to take their calls or be interviewed, and they lap it up and keep kissing Ranger brass ass and not telling the true story of this team and its lazy, passive, loser management and coaches. pathetic.

  62. I really like Naslund, quality guy, so in my opinion that was a good signing. It would still be beneficial to get a big, scoring forward. That’s because it was just never looked after in the off-season. Dawes and Fritsche should fetch something, hope that’s the way management is thinking.

  63. I think we all need two days to just chill out. A rough game and no one is tougher on the Rangers than me, but we’ve got the next two days off, spend time with your g/fs, bf/s, husbands, wives ,whatever, get the champagne and Barry White CD, go to the movies ,do holiday shopping, etc.

It will be a very different line-up on Sunday when the NY tripleheader of the Giants, Jets, and Rangers.

  64. At the end of the first period when Hank skated to the bench when he said something to Renney, it looked like Renney mouthed the words “Fugg off.” Did anyone else notice that?

  65. I like the thought of the Barry White stuff, that sounds like a prescription, and it’s free.

  66. How Renney saw the game:

“We couldn’t kind of collect ourselves, really,” Rangers coach Tom Renney said. “I thought we were OK to start with.”

Here’s where (without even knowing it I think) Tom reveals himself too much re: his philosophy:

“We needed to kind of keep them with us or stay with them and we weren’t able to do that…”

Hear that, sports fans? “Keep them with us,” ie., snoring through the first period. Back to the coach’s own words:

“…where in the past, for the most part, we’ve been able to kind of reel a team in and get ourselves into a hockey game, and we weren’t able to do that tonight.”

Reel a team in!? Think of the image — not attacking, not creating, not forcing the play, but attempting to harness, to constrain, to restrict. In other words, TO REACT! TO PERMIT THE OTHER TEAM TO DICTATE! This is lunacy!

This team is going NOWHERE until it has a coach who isn’t afraid to attack, and to teach his defensemen to punish. But then that’s a whole nother post….

  67. It’s like a shitty roller coaster ride at the county fair after you ate too much funnel cake and fried Oreos. What a shame. The real disappointing thing is we know this team can play like it needs to in order to win. They just don’t. I don’t think it has everything to do with the coach either. This one, just like the game on Sunday against the Panthers, is on the whole team. Disappointing. I am going up to “see” my wife and “go to sleep.”
    Goodnight ranger fans.

  68. The Rangers can bring in Bobby Hull, Phil Esposito, and Guy Lafleur in their prime, and would not score with Tom Renney’s coaching system.

  69. All Hail King Henrik on

Well, that sucked. Lundqvist couldn’t do shit on any of those goals, except for number 6, and at that point, who gives a shit anyways. Anyone blaming Hank for this loss is retarded or blind or both. All of the goals were tap-ins from less than 5 feet out. What a mockery of defensive coverage.

I wonder what Hank said to Renney? “Teach this team to play some fucking defense, Tom. I’m not stretch armstrong.”

    Some troubling stats:

Goals Per Game: 2.41 29TH OVERALL
Goals Against Per Game: 2.48–can’t win when you allow more than you score.

    PP: 15.4% 22nd Overall

If this team isn’t going to score goals, they damn well better learn to play defense and start trying to win games 2-1, 1-0.

When you have the 29th ranked offense, you better be making every attempt to keep the damn puck out of your own net.

  70. onecupin67years on

even though they’re still in first , the tough part is approaching, keep playing like this while teams get rolling and watch the Rangers slowly fall in the standings,
Sather is a big headed bully, if the press picks on the rangers bad press may influence the dolans for a change , it worked for the lousy knicks who are still lousy but not as lousy when whats his name left.
Its still football season ,after the supe bowl the writers will have a field day with rangers if they start falling

  71. 2 of the last 4 points boys…. aint bad, aint bad.

I think they’ll learn from these mistakes and turn a new leaf this weekend.

  72. onecupin67years on

I was on the west side highway when they fired espo, I wonder where i’ll be when sather and renny get axed

  73. All Hail King Henrik on

Only three players are a plus on the season: Zherdev (+7), Staal (+4) and Dawes (+1).

    That’s terrible.

    Gomez: -6
    Drury: -6
    Naslund: -5
    Rozsival: -8
    Kalinen: -13
    Redden: -4

    D-e-f-e-n-s-e. Try it.

  74. How many goals did the Hab’s fourth line get tonight?/ How many does our fourth line score on any night ever??? You do not win if 4 lines do not score. Period. its not about Betts. . It is about the 3 players that make up the 4th line. you have to be able to make a pass. You have to be able to be in front of the goal and take more than one shot per scoring chance. You are not a great 4th line just because you roll the puck around the dashers for 35 seconds.AT THE END OF THE DAY,all that does is give you less time on the clock to score and comeback.

  75. alex b (the poster formely known as czechthemout!!!!) on

This team is one of the most overrated teams in hockey history by the press. It has zero passion, they do not hit, they do not forcheck, backcheck, score,or dictate the style of game played, ever.Coach Putz has clearly lost his team. His goalie basicly told him to fuckhimself and his sytem after the first period judging by the look on renney’s stupid face. We are desperatly in need of a coaching change before we go into a death spiral and blow the season. Hank was left out to play defense by himself tonight.Hey,all you Renneyade drinkers,I thought your boy was a good defensive coach?

  76. All Hail King Henrik on

I’ll let it be known that I’m not completely anti-Renney, but I do think he has his flaws.

I did think that the Renney-haters here would find this funny, though. The Hockey News awards (if given at the quarter pole).

    Jack Adams:

    Todd McLellan, SJS.

Runners Up: Claude Julien, BOS, Tom Renney, NYR.

I’ve always liked Renney because he was a good defensive coach. What happened to that? This team played great team defense last season. This season, the defense has been terrible almost every game. His players just not listening to him anymore?

  77. If Henrik gets all pissed off, then it won’t be good for his game. And I think he is getting pissed off.

  78. I think Bobby Hull, Espo and Guy sold their skates and stuff a while ago at a garage sale. But, and let’s think out of the box here, if the Rangers organization could buy them the gear, they could just maybe be enticed to lace them up again.

  79. Gomez sure did turn the puck over alot and shout ” quite Honestly practice shooting” everyday .

With Redden’s injury , I geuss a trade or a cory potter call up will be in order.

  80. oh yeah …btw …live chat blows. Bigtime! Sorry Sam , you on there is cool but the whole clicking noise and the small type screen , the super lagg and to be quite honest ..im kinda busy watching the game in the other room.

  81. yeah new dewt abooot it!!! I’m not a Renny basher but it is time to release the coach and use Pern as interm coach … trying to keep a straight face :|

  82. Sather will retire, he’ll call the tune on when he leaves, I think. I doubt he will be fired. Think about how you hardly ever see evidence the guy is even breathing, he’s already planning his exit.

  83. Just saw the highlights. I don’t think I have ever seen so many two on nothings in one game in my life. Montreal could have scored ten goals.

Renney’s strategy is defense, and it worked last season, but now no one knows what to do defensively and there is no offense because creativity doesn’t fit into his formula. Hank is going to burn out or get injured if there are any more games like this one.

  84. Lundqvist is bigger than Renney and is also the single most important part of this organization for the next few years. If he is not happy with Renney… that should be the end of it. Plain and simple.

  85. As for trades, start thinking about how to wrap Dawes up. He’s not going to be much of anything, really, he won’t, at least not here. A peewee player could have sunk the goal he got off that pass from Zherdev. He does have good hands, but trade him.

  86. For anyone who believes Sam the Sham and Joe Blow that the Rangers lost this game because they were fatigued from last night’s physical Pitt game, here’s a bit of news:

The Penguins went to Carolina and won tonight, 5-2.

  87. I’m not ready to give up on Dawes and have him join the list of Middleton, Ridley, Miller, Gagner, Tinordi, Zubov, Apps Jr., Norstrom, Knuble, and Moose Dupont.

No more trading away youth, I don’t care how much they’re struggling.

  88. The old fatigue excuse thing got worn out long ago. I laughed when I heard it weeks after the return from Europe. I started saying “hmm, wait a minute…” What’s with these guys, they really need to think about what they are saying, it’s just like they are used to saying it, like a bad habit.

  89. Rangers haven’t had a line that other teams fear in a couple years now. The Straka-Nylander-Jagr line was about as dominant as it gets(When they were on) That line possesed the puck 20-25 minutes a night which covered up for many of the teams weaknesses in it’s own end. Zherdev is a guy that can sleepwalk half the game and then have a couple of dominant shifts and score a big goal but he’s not there where he’s noticable every shift(or sometimes even half his shifts) Dubinsky’s game has gone in the toilet the last month. Drury has struggled mightily. Gomez has been hurt and when healthy his game (for the most part) has been a mess.

  90. Moose Dupont was a Ranger? I never knew that. Really? I followed the Rangers all my life and never knew that. Interesting. He represented everything I hated, but I guess he was effective, but why wouldn’t he have been in the days of extreme fighting on skates. What a lumbering, blubbering, drooling waste that guy was.

Zubov and Norstrom trades still gall me to this day. Zubov and Leetch on the point on the pp was poetry in motion. The Norstrom trade was one of the worst trades ever. Hard to imagine anyone more done than Kurri was back in ’96. Campbell proudly ran Zubov out of town and Mess pushed Smith to make the Kurri trade.

  92. Fair enough, we’ll trade Dawes away in three years after a long drawn out yo-yo like in and out of the lineup pattern, like Prucha.

”…where in the past, for the most part, we’ve been able to kind of reel a team in and get ourselves into a hockey game, and we weren’t able to do that tonight.”

Reel a team in!? Think of the image—- not attacking, not creating, not forcing the play, but attempting to harness, to constrain, to restrict. In other words, TO REACT! TO PERMIT THE OTHER TEAM TO DICTATE! This is lunacy!

This team is going NOWHERE until it has a coach who isn’t afraid to attack, and to teach his defensemen to punish. But then that’s a whole nother post….”

You just noticed that Renney makes almost no sense 95% of the time? The guy is and has been a complete fraud. He is not a coach, he is a salesman.

  94. Prucha & Dawes are Rag-Dolls. They’re too small for the NHL. If Betts is out for any substantial period of time it should make all you know-it-all Betts haters realize the importance of his defensive play. Gomez, Drury, Dubinsky need to start playing hockey. Whether we like it or not the Ranger’s success lies in playing from the goal out. They have to play better in there own end. When we play tight and smart in our own end, start fore-checking and back checking we’ll be fine. Staal and Zherdev were the best pplayers on the ice. Maybe we’ll bring Potter up to replace Redden (The Waste) 6 yrs. sos

  95. Betts being out of the lineup had nothing to do with the loss. He played in the Florida game on Sunday and the result and effort was comparable.

How many goals did the Hab’s fourth line get tonight?/ How many does our fourth line score on any night ever??? You do not win if 4 lines do not score. Period. its not about Betts. . It is about the 3 players that make up the 4th line. you have to be able to make a pass.

I agree, all 4 lines need to be a threat offensively. Sjostrom might be passable for a 4th liner, but Betts and Orr just don’t have the offense.

  97. Kalinen is worse than Backman on Backman’s worst night. OMG. Kalinen NEVER has a good game – never? What a fukin Titanic, except with more gaping holes.

So we are locked into Kalinen until Sather dies on the job. Meanwhile, after getting a late start to the AHL season because of injury, Michael SAUER is playing superb hockey in Hartford. NHL D-level hockey. Which means Kalinen will be blocking Sauer’s deserved advancement for the next decade or so. It is just awful that teams cant get rid of hideous players when they have better just a phone call away. God damn I hate Kalinen. My late grandmother is a better D than Kalinen, right now.

  98. graves9 –

Another kid the Rangers axed was Marc Savard of Boston, who has played at a HOF level for several years, now, and could well lead the Bruins to winning the Cup, this year. Only Detroit or San Jose in the finals stand in the Bruins way, as it looks, right now.

You are right on with your patient attitude re younger players. And look at the old junk we have picked up for younger players – starting with Lindros and a washed-up Ken Hodge, at the cost of young Rick Middleton. John Ferguson isn’t dead enough yet, for my money.

  99. Well fans if ya are as sick of riding the porcelin train like me after last night than maybe heres something to hope for. Mess got Roger Neilson tossed and Hank is the face of the Rangers, think the cigar smoking corpse saw how pissed Hank was last night at getting hung out to dry again? Make Renny,Pearn and Pelino restroom attendants and get someone in here to PREACH PASSION in the game. Oh yea Sam Rosen and Joe ” THE OLD COOT ” Micheletti can be the trash attendants.

  100. “Neilson tossed and Hank is the face of the Rangers, think the cigar smoking corpse saw how pissed Hank was last night at getting hung out to dry again?”

no, I think he hasn’t watched the Rangers in years

  101. I’m starting to quite dislike Sam and Joe myself… god how I would love Maloney up there… I’ve considered muting the games and listening to the radio feed but the radio feed is a good 3-5 seconds earlier than the msg broadcast so youre hearing everything before it happens… no good

  102. At least I have Elias and Cindy on my fantasy team. Big night for both of them last night.
When that is all I have to be happy about, it makes we just want to go in the corner of the room and bang my head against the wall.

At this point would all of you rather somehow get Sundin or trade a bunch of players to land Kovulchuk?

  103. I am not going to get too up in arms here guys. Yeah I am pissed, but I am going to wait and see how we play the next time we face Montreal and Buffalo. We have a very hard time against teams with a lot of speed. We are a pretty quick team, but we do not have speed like Montreal and Buffalo. I am hoping that they learn something from playing teams that are faster than they are and make improvements in their game. Montreal is a very good team, but I do think we can beat them. I would love to be playing them again on Sunday, because I think there would be a different outcome.

  104. Use Dawes more often, not less often. At least he hustled last night, which you can’t say for most of the team!

  105. I thought it was funny how Sam Rosen was praising the play of the defense before the game and then they give one of their worst efforts. Tired team-yes but can they at least put in alittle effort?

Rangers D-listed in value to team in my opinion.

Mara-always gives effort and shows passion.
Staal-so solid that he’s almost invisible.
Girardi-some nights he’s the next Leetch, others he’s the next Ozo.
Kalinen-decent efforts but gets caught, badly, out of position.
Redden-why was he at the top of the circle with 2 Canadiens behind him last night? What a disappointment.
Rozi-lost cause who looks to never find his game or confidence. Horrible.

  106. Cakewalk – r u kidding m… Kalinin has done a great job this year. What team have you been watching. Guy has made very few glaring mistakes in my eyes.

Guys… was a fun game to watch last night. Canadiens were just not going to lose that game. They r too proud a team to lose a game as big as that for their organization. Its 2 freakin points of a long season. I’m relaxed we lost. Can’t win them all.

With that said… Gomer had a shocker of a night with a minus 4 rating. Ouch…. that is tough to do. Thought Dawes finally woke up and played a good game. And i would have said that even if he hadn’t scored that goal. He was playing with fire. The team in general looked spent.

Lundy… tough to say he had a great game after giving up 6 goals… but he made some sick saves last night and really got little help from his teammates. I have to applaud his efforts.

Zherdie again played a good game. Drury not so much. Voros… man what a dumb penalty… surprised he got a shift after that one. The Korpedo looked a bit better but stiooll kind of disappointing in general.

Oh and lastly… that pp where we scored a goal was insane. As soon as that power play started i was like… wow this looks different… they were flying all over the ice. They are gonna score i told myself…. 30 seconds later they did.

Anyway, fun game to watch…. bring on Calgary.

  107. this is how our defense was for years, the thing is Lundqvist usually stops most of those shots so the defense doesn’t look too bad if you look at the stats. Renney system has no offense or defense.

  108. 22figure8 – fair point about Kalinin being out of position some times as he likes to pinch…. but he hasn’t made glaring blunders ala M Rozsi……

  109. We have limited offense. We need to just play the whole game as if we are on the penalty kill and then hope for a glaring mistake or scoring opportunity and go for that. People say we have all this talent, well I just don’t see it. We have some talent but none that is going to blow teams out. We need to tighten up and win low scoring games.

  110. i remember on one goal rosival had no idea where the habs player was, turn around rosie he was in front of the net right behind u

Sooooooo true. That line combined for over 600 points all the times they were together. We can debate about why Sather never resigned Nylander to make Jagr happy etc blah blah blah. But They were a VERY dominant line…

    Mike A
Lots of names you left off of that list of young Rangers who make it big when they were given up and or traded away too early in their career.
Weight & Amonte stand out the most. And Graves9 Im with you that Zubov trade broke my heart too…

  112. Main difference between now and earlier in the season when we were crushing it is the guys just don’t seem to have the fire for a full 60 minutes each nite. Not sure who to blame for that but it is apparent.

The good news is they are still managing to get points while they are playing not the best hockey. But again – its a loong season and we are still in first freaking place in the conference so I am not complaining.

I mean its not like we are gonna read in the papers that Redden shot himself in the leg at some str1pclub up in Montreal last night. The team is focused and playing like a team. I’d love to watch them win every single game… but obviously that is just not gonna happen. Even the machine that is the SJ Sharks has lost a few games this yr.

  113. A few things:

    1) Any of you idiots who keep calling for Betts’ head should just crawl into a hole and shrivel up now. If it is not painfully obvious now that we lack any real physicality combined with smart defensive play by our forwards after last night, then no one knows anything about hockey. Naslund a -4 last night and Gomer -3. INEXCUSABLE.

    2) Can we make any more pu$$y pokechecks and reaching out to try and take the puck away without touching the guy? That is just so frustrating.

    3) Why doesn’t anyone hit? Staal, Mara, Girardi do. The other 3 lummoxes on D do not.

    4) Gomer and Prucha were our fighters last night? I mean what the hell does that tell you.

    5) This team lacks any heart.

    6) Outshot 39-20. You can’t win many games like that (unless you are playing the Rangers and you are outshot, then maybe you can.)

    7) I hear Sam Rosen say, “Oh Rod Gilbert was up for the Habs ceremony and was saying how tired he was. I can only imagine what the players are feelling.” This was maybe the first time in a long long time I actually wanted to climb through the TV and beat someone. The NYR are professionals and are like 23, 25, 27 yrs old. Give me a f-ing break. What are they going to do in the postseason when they have 4 games in 8 nights that are 2x as physical as the ones they have been playing.

I am so tired of all the excuses.

  114. wd40 missed the Pitt game then? They hit almost everything that moved, Orr, Cally, Staal and Pru were throwing themselves around all game.

Phalanx – Prucha was in the box for fighting during the powerplay. You know, the Powerplay that Naslund scored on dopey..!!

Cakewalk – wtf! Kalinin is on a 1-year deal so how does that block Sauer? Especially as we only carry 6 d-men and its likely that Sauer or Potter will be called up in the next few weeks. Kalinin is a stop-gap till guys like Sauer, Potter, Sangs and Del-Z are ready.

Last 10 games, 6 wins, 4 defeats – 1st in division (although played 4 more than Pitt and only 4 pts difference). We’re not as bad as you guys think and you can’t base your decisions on isolated incidents.
Although i agree with some things: need size up front; need to be more physical on D. Bad news there though – we’ve got very little cap room.

  115. You and Sather think Kalinen has done a great job. OMG! No scoring, no playmaking, no physical game, and out of position worse than a giraffe at a chipmunk convention. You give “blowing smoke” a new dimension.

  116. UK – Of course I hope you are right re a Hartford call-up, but I FEAR this stuck in the mud mgmt team will either not make the call, or bury whomever gets the call in the press box. We know what happens to the Pock’s and the Prucha’s of the world, with Renney. Dorks like Ozo and Kas get preferred treatment and ice time.
