News and insight about the New York Rangers

Last gasps of summer

August
12

I’m taking the week off before the final push of summer, which to me means another golf tournament, a little U.S. Open tennis, and then, lo and behold, the start of training camp.

Hard to believe, isn’t it?

Wasn’t it only yesterday that the Rangers were trying to claw their way out of a three-game deficit against the Pens? Wasn’t it only hours ago that Markus Naslund, Nikolai Zherdev, and Wade Redden were all wearing different uniforms?

A part of me wants to lap up every last ounce of summer, and a part of me can’t wait for it to end. But either way, I’ll be ready to get back to the rink when the time comes (and of course, to lace ‘em up myself).

And I’ll be sure to keep you posted before then.

More later….

Sam we all thought you had been on Vacation for the last month. But that’s ok you can’t write about nothing happening. I think I will start counting the days until training camp begins, I suppose we are kind of getting close, seems like a aternity away though.

I’m doing “one-arms” right now in working out preparation for coming season!
Like a crazed hockey “thing that will not leave” I keep attempting comebacks….
Now, let me change arms and do “one armed beers” with the other arm!!

    Sam,

Any idea if someone will be out to Traverse City, MI. to cover the prospects tournament? Also have the rangers released any schedules for their prospect games? I’ll be out there and want to see if I can catch a few.

No, it wasn’t hours ago, day, weeks, months, etc. It hasn’t friggin happened yet, god knows why. What are these players doing. Don’t they wanna get settled in quickly, and get all this media stuff over with before camp?

Don’t rush it peeps; these are the most beautiful days of the year with long hours and the ability to do things outdoors and go places. The way I look at life; hockey and specifically the Rangers (and the occasional indoor concert) are what get us through the winter and short days and long sleeves and jackets and help us to get to the summer which I consider the “playoffs” of life.

I really never liked school growing up (HS, college, etc.) and the Rangers and good friends have helped me to survive the school year.

    Hey Sam –

Good to hear you’ll be at the best U.S. Open of the summer – the tennis one. I’m not bound to media seat ushering duty this time so maybe we’ll have a chance to talk. Look forward to seeing you.
