News and insight about the New York Rangers

Schedule out today

July
17

The NHL schedule comes out today, probably around noon. I remember last year at this time I was mostly interested in how the Rangers’ schedule was going to conflict with the birth of my second son (Will was born Jan. 4, a few hours after the Rangers were losing to Markus Naslund and the Canucks).

This year I don’t have that concern.

Or at least not that I know of…

  1. Beer Me!

Just incase anyone missed it on the last thread… I want to make sure that you guys know there’s someone apparently in love with me, continuing to use my ‘name’. It a pain in the ass, but you can probably tell which one is which.

  2. JS

Is the Prague game confirmed? If not, will we know one way or another by noon… Thx

  3. Pavel

Yea the Prague games are confirmed.. they are going to sell packages soon (round trip air, ticket to both games, hotel, etc) starting at a whopping $3000!

  4. Harvey20

That $3000 doesn’t seem that bad since it includes air and hotel…have you seen the exchange rate lately….

I was in Ireland a few months ago for a wedding…paying $8.00 per pint of Guinness hurts…

Also, in Ireland wedding aren’t open bar…go figure…

  5. UKRanger

Harvey….have you seen how much the Irish can drink…i wouldn’t want that bill..!!

  6. JS

Do you have those dates.. also do we know when the Adam Graves game is

  7. Pavel

I was in Poland last year, and airfare/hotel/tours/etc didn’t amount to any where near $3k for a 4-5 day trip…

  8. beth

Beer, it’s very easy to tell between you and the fake Beer. You have intelligent things to bring to the conversation, the other person is just a trolling asshat

  9. Beer Me!

Sam, how about a prize if anyone can beat you to posting the schedule?? haha

  10. Agravaine

oh sad, I will miss the live chat this time…

yea I need to know when Graves night is so I can get tix, though I will probably just be going to the viewing party agains if they do it…

  11. 22figure8

Wife and I went on honeymoon 2 years ago for about $4600 total for 10 days in Germany, Switzerland, Austria, Lichtenstein and Italy. Exchange was about $130 for $100 Euro. 3K per person for 2 games seems steep but I guess with the dollar being crap it’s no surprise. My friend tried to get tiks from a Euro Ticketmaster type and they were sold out. I guess I have to hope (fat chance) on winning the MSG contest to go to Prague.

  12. Kaspar

I take train into Prague just pull a George Costanza and make beleive I’m on team. “hey guys good morning!” start putting on any uniform I can find…....I’ll do anything they want; clean lockers, shine Henriks Mask, work on the Penske file anything!!

  13. Timay!

I have import business from Europe. I can’t afford a Pilsner from fake Budweiser company in Prague. Actually the fake company is now the real Budweiser. Funny-last time I was in Prague Budweiser was sueing Prague Budweiser. this time another European company owns Bud.

Hope they play Dallas at home this year so we can boo Avery, the little shite.

  14. stf

When schedule comes out around noon, does it mean ticketmaster will start selling tickets the same hour, or what? Does anybody know? Last year all tix were sold out in less than an hour.
Also, about 2-3 months ago I have put deposit on partial season tickets and I’m on waiting list, do you guys know when they’ll decide on that? Thanks.

  15. Pavel

I don’t think the CR is on the euro though.. not until 2010…

  16. 22figure8

stf—NYR and ticketmaster will announce future date that tiks go on sale. You don’t have to sweat it today.

  17. Hanny

How can anyone not know the Prague games are already confirmed? There’s only been about 349,863 articles on the thing.

As for $3000… that’s ridiculous. I was in Prague only a few years ago, and 5 days of a nice hotel, travel around and drinking money only came to a few hundred. (Most of that was drinking money, and yes, I’m Irish. Luckily we don’t take offense to stereotypes like other ethnic groups!) Add airfare and it was maybe $800-900.

Sure the flights and gas are more expensive, but $3k is still ridiculous.

  18. NICDIP94

Sam, I would suggest that you remain celebate from now thru Oct to ensure that you don’t have any similar “distractions” that may curtail or otherwise distract for your diligent coverage of the playoffs. Hey, it’s called “taking one for the team”. It’s a Mara thing.

  19. vogs

    Kaspar-

    George? “The Little Bulldog” Costanza?

“Mr. Penske’s car is being towed”

  20. Kaspar

    Vogs-

The only problem with George, and with me, were that we were big fat commies! Big as they come.

    3rd line will be Sundin-Sakic-Shanahan….slow 1990’s style…...

  21. Erf

The Imposter is from the site and I have an idea Who it is, based on the person/s they are chosing as targets. Beer, didnt you used to be called “Binkie” earlier here? Now, as far as hockey goes., why are we playing Detroit and Dallas both TWICE?

  22. JS

sorry tranny must have missed those articles

  23. Beer Me!

erf – nope. I’ve always had the same name on this blog. From what I was told last year by a few here was that someone had used the same name on hockeybird, to which I responded that that site is written by a jerkoff who gives up on the team on a weekly basis.

Just read the posts carefully and you’ll know who is who. The regulars here know who is who. I’m sure they’ll point it out.

  24. CML

You guys are still asking about Prague, the Rangers are offering pacages on their site, but you have to request for them because there are probably a lot of people asking for Prague tickets…

  25. Kaspar

Here is interesting reading from TSN…boy the canadian people are really getting sore at all the American teams that lose money being propped up by their six clubs plus rangers and wings…read the fan comments!!

  26. New Newman

Beer Me! please tell your friend Erf that the guys who have been on this blog for a while now don’t really use 4 letter words as our main means of conversation.

I am cutting and pasting two posts from Erf from the previous thread:

Ha ha you f*ing moron. Keep spreading your misinformation. Fing p*ck.

    and

Wow, what a funny post, you racist mother f***er. Another
example of the genius posters on this blog. Ha ha. What a
    f***ing schmuck.

That kind of commentary on the blog is what we see on the NJ Devils Blog or the Islanders blog. We like to argue, debate, get in each other’s faces, but we do so with class. Keep the swears on the Devils’ blogs….Please.

  27. Beer Me!

newman – hopefully it’ll go back to normal as the season gets closer. we’ll see.

  28. Beer Me!

Bill Daly looks like a corss between Andrew Zimmern and Michael Chiklis.

  29. Beer Me!

well, it ain’t the schedule, but equally big news:

    http://tsn.ca/nhl/story/?id=243581&lid=sublink06&lpos=headlines_nhl

  30. Beer Me!

Also, blueshirtbulletin reporting that Sjo isn’t looking for a raise. Actually a pay-CUT in trade for a 2-yr deal.

  31. stf

Thanks 22figure8. How about season tickets?

Hanny – just the round-trip ticket to Poland or Czech Republic is around 1200-1300usd now. I remember flying to Poland for about 400 bucks 7-8 years ago… Friggin’ ridiculous.

  32. stf

Beer: Jamie Lundmark – another wasted talent…

  33. Kaspar

    New Newman

I’m with you 100%...this is for fun

  34. CML

Last year season tickets went on sale in September.

  35. Timay!

Maybe Lundmark can play on Bertuzzi’s line. Jamie can distract while Todd smacks with the stick to the back of the head

  36. Pavel

I went to priceline and found 4 nights in hotel + round trip airfare for $1120. Unless tickets to the games are $900/piece… lol.. ok where can I get tickets from? I’d rather spend a week in Prague on my own time/money and then just go to the games myself.

  37. stf

Sam, my son was born on Nov 17 in the morning, in the hospital I was watching Rangers roll over Flyers in SO. That was good sign for me. Nothing could go wrong that day ;)

  38. Sindy Crawford

I’m pretty sure tix go onsale in early sept. They havent even done season renewals yet. I believe that isn’t taking place until the first week or so of aug, then they do the mini packages renewals, then whatever is left goes to the public for season/mini packages, then single game tix go onsale

  39. Beer Me!

stf – “talent” are we talking about the same Lundmark here? If you fail in the desert, you’re done.

  40. acdaviddc

My son just got a job and is moving to Phonix next month. He’ll be about 10 minutes from where the hockey arena is out there.Hope the Rangers play out there this year would love to see a game their.

  41. stf

He was kind of a talent when our scouts picked him as #9 in the ‘99 draft, isn’t it? Same thing goes to Malhotra. Whoever was deciding to get these two guys should be ashamed of himself.

  42. Beer Me!

gotcha stf. As long as you refer to ‘talent’ in a past tense, it works for me! haha

That’s the biggest skill a scout can have. Is to know how said talent can transfer from junior or minor hockey into the NHL game.

  43. Doodie Machetto

Beer, he actually didn’t do that badly in the desert. He was traded the same season he arrived. But his numbers weren’t that bad. 38 GP, 5g, 13a, 18 pts. That’s like 11 goals and 39 assists. 50 points is nothing to sneeze at. Then he went to the Flames and had 4 goals and 6 assists in 10 games.

It was a career year for him, spending parts of it on 3 different teams. 10 goals, 24 assists in 53 games. Not too shabby at all. The problem is, he followed it up the next season with 4 assists in 39 games before being dealt to the kings, where he had 7 goals and 2 assists in 29 games. Way to go Jamie. How’s Pavel Brendl?

  44. graves9

The 99 draft was one of the worst drafts in history outside of the underachieving Sedin twins almost nothing came out of it. 2003 Draft it was not. Gotta love Buttman cutting division games from 8 per year to 6. I’m sure there will be plenty of buzz when nashville and Columbus come in to the Garden instead of 2 extra games vs the Devs , Isles or Flyers.

  45. graves9

If the scout that had a hand in drafting Lundmark should be fired than shouldn’t the scouts that pushed to draft Jessiman over Richards and Parise be shot?

  46. Beer Me!

I HATED 8 games vs the division. I’m glad to see the adjustments. I’d like to see more of the players around the league come to the gahden.

  47. Beer Me!

doodie – we COULD talk about jamie…but I really don’t think it deserves more than it’s gotten. lol

I also didn’t mean to address Malhotra at all with my comment before. He’s carved out quite an NHL career for himself. A steady two-way fwd.

  48. Doodie Machetto

Jessiman was drafted for a different style of play than what came after the lockout. The guy is 6’6” and at the time what was he, like 215, 220? In the old NHL, when defense was just hooking and grabbing, having someone that big would have been a great weapon because you couldn’t slow him down.

In the “new” NHL, where all of that is a penalty, speed and skating became more important, two things Jessiman is lacking in. He has some skill, but he is such a terrible skater and has such poor hockey IQ that it doesn’t matter that he has skill and size.

So, while the pick was definitely not the best even when it was made, the rule changes are what has made it so much worse.

  49. 22figure8

Doug Sulliman, Steven Rice, Peter Ferraro, more #1 gems.

  50. LI Joe

someone stated we play Detroit twice. I don’t think so – NHL.com has Detroit playing pitt, buff, atl twice.

I hope schedule is out soon

  51. 22figure8

    It’s out.

    http://www.nhl.com/nhl/app

  52. graves9

Beerme ridiculous. 8 games brings some juice back into the rivalries. Lots more hitting, fighting passion. What exactly does 2 games vs Nashville and Columbus do?

  53. LI Joe

    http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/story/?id=243562&lid=sublink08&lpos=headlines_nhl

this is the link that mentions who Detroit plays twice. it’s tsn not nhl.com

Wow! A friday night opener at home against Chicago!?!? That has sloppy written all over it. Can’t wait.

  56. Beer Me!

    you win the prize 22!

looks like we start with some back to backs the 1st few weeks. Great way to get us, the fans, going!

graves9 – difference of opinions I guess. I know the atlantic div pretty well. I don’t need rivalries forced on me.

  57. 22figure8

Really would like to take the credit, BM, but that didnt come from me.

If the trend continues, Graves’ jersey night will be in January. Only a few home games in January:

    Mon Jan 5, 2009 v. Penguins 7:00 PM ET
    Wed Jan 7, 2009 v. Canadiens 7:30 PM ET
    Tue Jan 20, 2009 v. Ducks 7:00 PM ET
    Tue Jan 27, 2009 v. Hurricanes 7:00 PM ET

I’m guessing the Ducks would be the least draw (if that’s possible with constant sellouts…) so I’d put good money on Jan. 20th being Graves’ night.

  59. Hanny

Then again with the later start time of the Canadiens game… it could be that one.

  60. Hanny

Then again, with the later start time for the Habs game… it could be that one.

  61. SpeedSkatOrr

Great! We get to see Avery as early as Oct 20th. I wonder who Renney will put in net that night? Haha!

A few days old, but THN’s Mark Seidel grading the draft…

A, New York Rangers – “The Rangers picked a total of seven players and at NACS, there were a few we loved. The selection of Michael Del Zotto was another first round pick the Rangers made that, in a few years, will have people wondering why the kid fell in the draft. At No. 20, the Rangers got a defenseman who has as much offensive skill as any in the draft at his position, including Drew Doughty. Although Del Zotto’s defensive game needs work, it’s not something he can’t learn and improve on. The second round selection of Derek Stepan was interesting because there were a lot of safer picks and in our opinion, more skilled players available. Later, the Rangers took Evgeny Grachev, Tomas Kundratek and Chris Doyle much lower than they should have gone, which bodes well for down the road. New York finished by taking the oft-injured, but a personal favorite, Mitch Gaulton from the Erie Otters. Although Gaulton hasn’t played enough for scouts to get a good evaluation on him, trust me when I say there is a reason he was a top five pick in the OHL. Assuming he can stay healthy, Gaulton may be a pleasant surprise for Gotham City.”

Home games: 3 Devils, 3 Peguins, 3 Islanders, 3 Flyers.
    2 Sabres, 2 Maple Leafs, 2 Thrashers, 2 Bruins, 2 Senators, 2 Panthers, 2 Hurricanes, 2 Capitals, 2 Canadiens. 1 Lightning, 1 Blackhawk, 1 Star, 1 Oiler, 1 Canuck, 1 Coyote, 1 Flame, 1 Duck, 1 Avalanche, 1 Wild.

Yes, I was bored – I just felt like listing it.

  70. stf

    Sam is laaate! ;)

  71. Pavel

The home opener is the ONLY friday home game ALL season? WTF?!

  72. Hanny

No, there’s 2 Friday games… but both in October. SUCKS.

  73. Adam Z.

Upon returning from Prague, we get four days off. Then the immediate stretch of games is seven in 11 nights. Five are at home, but that’s still pretty brutal.

  74. RAK

Western teams with one home and one road game are:
    Ducks, Stars, and Blackhawks.

Western teams which only go to MSG, besides the three home and home teams are: Oilers, Canucks, Flames, Wild, Avalanche, and Coyotes

Western teams that the Rangers visit, that do not come to MSG: Blue Jackets, Red Wings, Kings, Sharks, Blues, and Predators.

  75. CML

We actually have 2 HOME Lightning games (I forgot to count the Czech game.)

    Our AWAY games: 3 Flyers, 3 Islanders, 3 Devils. 3 Penguins. 2 Leafs, 2 Capitals, 2 Senators, 2 Lightning (including 1 Czech game), 2 Panthers, 2 Canadiens, 2 Thrashers, 2 Sabres, 2 Bruins, 2 Hurricanes. 1 Red Wing, 1 Blue Jacket, 1 Duck, 1 King, 1 Shark, 1 Blackhawk, 1 Star, 1 Blue, 1 Predator.

  76. Kaspar

Wow! you guys do the math man!...Ok, now, how many games go to Overtime…

....and home and away splits for these please

    Thank you
    K

  77. CML

So basically we have 3 home and 3 away games versus each of the teams in the Atlantic divison.

And 2 home and 2 away games versus the rest of the Eastern Conference.

We play every team in the league at least once.

  78. Beer Me!

Hey Timay, you made that sound personal..the Repeat threat seemed foucued on ME, my mistake, right.

  79. CML

I think that Graves night will not be versus the Ducks. They normally try to play a team that we could possibly win versus (so they wouldn’t want to put us versus the lastest cup winners.) I don’t think they’d make us play the team that eliminated us in the playoffs, so that crosses off the Penguins. So that leaves the Canadiens and Hurricanes. My guess is that Graves Night is Jan 27 versus the Hurricanes.

  80. ORR...The Pop Sensation Known As KOlton Douglas Orr !! (He Strikes Back !! Just Like In The Movies) !!!

Is it nessecary to play the Stars twice ??

Im looking forward to seeing HOSSA !!! When we play the Yotes. It was awesome when he was on that goal streak.

They would always play that song after a goal, HOSSA, HOSSA, HOSSA Ole !

Hopefully this season we’ll here this song a bunch of times….

  83. Rob

  84. Rob

Hey ORRR, its going to be hard to see Hossa play when the yotes come to town considering he went back to Russia to play….
