There is NO rule against what Avery was doing but there is a rule against spearing and smacking a guy in the head with your goalie glove…. Mike Hassenfratz is brutal he shouldnt be refereeing a section one modified game ….How the heck is he in the stanley cup playoffs….check the scoresheet he was personally responsible for most of the penalties??? against the Rangers….Rozsival needs to wake up and show a little heart and hate to say it but seems to be dragging Staal down…..He wasnt good tonight…..bad clear on elias goal…half speed cruise on pucks into our zone, little gun-shy….besides anyone notice how bad betts is…..??? dumb player….shouldve been called the other nite for that penalty and remember it was him taking the dumb penalty vs. buffalo in ot game 5 leading to afinoginov’s goal….....

Again, incredible that someone who thinks he knows ANYTHING about hockey cites 14 PIM by a defenseman who plays almost 20 minutes a game as a uniformly POSITIVE stat. Laughable.

Derek had it right. I’ve watched Rosy’s “HIGH STICKING PENALTY” 10 times and his stick doesn’t go more than waist high and he doesn’t touch anyone.

If it was the refs appeasing Lamoriello for when he ripped into them, it was blatantly obvious. If it wasn’t appeasement, they are the worst officiating team I’ve seen in years.

TSN had a video on the site with their commentators discuss how over the line and unsportsmanlike Avery’s face-guarding act was tonight. Well…OK… i see their point and it seemed a little odd and outside the game, but it really is not a penalty. Their argument lost a little steam however when Pang started commending the refs for letting Brodeur spear Avery in the groin. Let me get this strait… waving a glove or stick in front of someone is unsportsmanlike, but spearing in the groin and punching is just fair play. Interesting analysis.
