Boston’s 3-0 loss to Buffalo tonight means the Rangers are locked into a first-round match-up with the Devils.
We’ll know tomorrow where that series begins….
The Rangers are a better team than the Devils, and if they don’t win the series it will be because Renney got outcoached by Sutter. (Can you say line-matching?)
The Rangers are faster, deeper and have many more players who do not treat the puck like a hand grenade when it’s on their stick. Brodeur is still great, but if Hank——who just might be in Marty’s head a little——plays him fairly even up, and Jagr continues to feel confidence, and the power play doesn’t go 0 for 22, the NYR in five games. Six at the absolute maximum.
I hope we win tomorrow. If we go into the series 8-0 on the year, that gives us a HUGE mental edge. “YOU CAN’T BEAT US” will be ringing in their red and black ears.
However, if the Devs win tomorrow, it’s 7-1, but they get the momentum and the 7 previous wins mean nothing.
I’m glad that we didn’t get WASH, they’re too hot right now …
Does a loss to the Devs tomorrow destroy our confidence / significantly raise theirs?
I disagree that tomorrow means that much if the Rangers lose. I remember, and I know I’m dating myself, in 1972 when the Rangers played the Canadiens in the last game of the season and lost (I was there) and everyone was worried that the Habs would roll on with that momentum. Didn’t happen—- Rangers in six that year, and it should’ve been five.
After the Boston game ended – It took about 30 minutes for all the Devils games to sell out. I’m sure about 5 of them were Devils fans. I checked after the second period and these were plenty of seats as usual!!
I love those loyal Devils fans….Thanks for the seats!!!
How much does home advantage matter?
I know we joke here that the Rock is “just like being at home”, but I don’t buy that … I think we shave off a couple of games off the series total if we get home ice …
Additionally, I don’t think the Devils believe in themselves. There is no way that their team of the past with Stevens and Niedermayer doesn’t go into Philly and beat the crap out of the Flyers last night.
Players like White and Martin are decent but can be had; Gionta and Langenbrunner still can play, but they are on the downside. Parise is dangerous, but Zajac has no confidence, Elias is not the player he was two years ago, and while Brodeur can steal them a game without question—- and probably will—- he cannot steal them the series.
Look at Sutter in his post-game interviews over the last month. His face tells you all you need to know about his faith in this crew. They are not a bad hockey team, but they are just not very good any more.
I really think Jagr will be on a mission in this series to make up for 2006. He was the only leader then and blew it by hurting his shoulder. The amazing thing is there are only a handful of Rangers that were on the team then…
Yeah, just off the top of my head, I can think of only Jagr, Lundqvist, Straka, Betts, Tyutin, Rozsival, Malik, and Strudwick who were on the team in 2006
Spiderpig – Add Prucha, Hollweg, and Orr to that list.
Ahh, how could I forget Prucha! Not too much turnover really.
Hey guys, this video is all pictures I took at the colisseum game. Unfortunately I hadn’t charged my camera battery so I didn’t take to many pic at MSG…
Bring on the Gerbils
Be ready for more tickets to the Rock to become available thru ticketmaster over the next few days. They’ll release a bit more each day until the day of the game they’ll release a ton. They did this in 2006 and I’m pretty sure they’ll do it this year.
Let’s try and get as many Rangers fans in their building as possible…at least more than our normal 35%.
BRING IT DEVILS.
I know some folks might argue that home ice advantage is not that important. That “the Rock” will be 50% Ranger fans (if not more) anyway. That the Rangers can beat the Devils anywhere. Personally, I think home ice advantage in this series will be HUGE, especially since it will go 6 or 7. The Rangers have not completely dominated the season series. Brodeur (although I can’t stand his egotistical comments!) is a competitor. Henrik on our side – fierce competitor and fully healthy vs 2 years ago. It will be a defensive battle for sure. Look for several 1-0 and 2-1 games with some OT action in games 2 and 5 (hypothetically speaking). The Rangers have more offensive talent this time around (not just Jagr like 2 years ago). The Devils are sans Gomez and Rafalski this time around. Unless the puck takes drastic turns for the worse, Rangers in 6. If they can get a regulation win this afternoon, I would still lean toward “Rangers in 6.” But the main point about getting home ice is for that potential 7th game. I would love to have that take place on the east side of the Hudson in MSG, if necessary.
“The Rangers are a better team than the Devils, and if they don’t win the series it will be because Renney got outcoached by Sutter. (Can you say line-matching?)”
Why don’t we wait and see what happens before we start blaming people for something that hasn’t happend yet pal. You should know that if you’ve been a hockey fan that long. Come on.
It could have NOTHING to do with Hank being off today, the officials F’ing us once again, NOTHING else? That’s the ONLY reason we could lose today? REALLY?
Add injuries to that too.
And change ‘today’ to ‘the series’.
Or facing one of the greatest goaltenders the NHL has ever seen? Especially him being one of the greatest playoff performers?
I’m not trying to attack you here dude. But statement is nothing but ridiculous.
A couple responses:
Anyone over the age of ten who believes that refs can cost the better team an entire series is delusional. A game? Possibly. A series? No way.
Brodeur is great, as I stated emphatically above. But he has not been very good in the playoffs since the sweep of the NYR in ‘06. Again, he can absolutely steal a game. But there is no way he can steal four.
Name me an elite coach in the NHL who does not match lines and wins playoff series that are relative toss-ups. Tom Renney can sweep Atlanta——it has yet to be shown that he can beat whoever will be this year’s Buffalo.
Renney has many skills as a coach, and I think he has done a very good job in some respects, especially off the ice and in the room. But he is at best second-rate as an in-game coach, and that is being generous.
The type of mistake he made with his on-ice personnel at the end of Game 5 last year vs. the Sabres is a mistake that a top in-game coach never makes in a playoff setting even in his worst nightmare. Ever.
NHL JOBS HURRICANES OUT OF PLAYOFF SLOT.
When you tabulate poins won and points lost on 2-0 games, and 2-1 games, Carolina, not Washington deserves to be in the playoffs. Carolina went 92-85, a winning percentage of .520; while Washington went 94-89, a winning percentage of .514. A 2-1 points win is not the same as a 2-0 points win, the NHL doesn’t know this, and doesn’t post points lost, just points won, thus the flawed system.
Carolina went 36-33 in 2-0 games, and 7-6 in 2-1 games. Washington went 32-31 in 2-0 games, and 11-8 in 2-1 games. So Carolina won more games outright, and had a higher winning percentage.
Anyone responding to me that the Caps had more points than the Hurricanes, 94-92, after reading the above break-down, is a moronic third grade drop-out who will not get a response from me.
Rob, your logic is flawed.
You assume your tabulations are a correct assumption.
Then you threaten to take your toys and go home should anyone be moronic enough to doubt your logic.
perhaps you could get the NHL to tabulate your way- i highly doubt it.
However, When you have to include points for losses in any standings tabulation, itis practically a positive for negative swap that is flawed to start with.
I learned that in 4th grade, BTW.
As a former frequent poster in seasons past,I’d like to welcome my self back “home”.This is the first blog I ever posted on and I to my own shame pretty much abandoned it for BB when Sam stopped posting response to fans. Now I’m back!!I’m through with posting on that polyana site and am ready to engage my fellow Ranger fans with good honest and critical debate. As well,I will praise the team when it is right to do so.SO let’s kick come devils ass today and win home ice!
LETS’S GO RANGERS!!!!!!!!!!
Ranger rob is none other than Robby Bonfire who “threatened” to never again post here over some slight to the Montreal Canadiens. yet somehow he comes back from time to time. next thing you know he’ll be crying that we don’t have enough 16 yr olds in the lineup.
Do the playoffs start Thursday or Friday night? Is that known yet?
Chris playoffs in general start Wednesday but not for all series. if we have home ice it will be thursday since Knicks play at home wed and fri (and next mon too). versus will have games starting wed. nbc will have games at 2:00 pm on sat and sun per their promos
