Stars in alignment?

61

First it was two games without having to worry about Rick DiPietro leading the Islanders’ breakout. Now it’s an afternoon against the Bruins without Zdeno Chara pestering Jaromir Jagr.

Just give the Rangers the two points now? Hardly. But it certainly changes the complexion of a matchup the Rangers have struggled with in three meetings this season.

Meanwhile, no changes in the lineup expected from Tom Renney, and that means Henrik Lundqvist back in goal. Asked about tomorrow night in Buffalo, Renney said he has a pretty good idea of what he wants to do, “but I’m taking it one day at a time.”

I take that to mean Lundqvist is penciled in for tomorrow unless it’s made apparent he needs a night off. More than likely you’ll see Stephen Valiquette in one of the two games next weekend in Florida.

More in a bit…

Richard, Anisimov and Cherepanov aren’t BIG players. We need some size on the wings. We have no power forwards. Bernier will be a consistent 30 goal scorer starting two years from now.

Rangers better win big today because I am PISSED! How could Slats bungle our future like that?!

For all of the good work he has done since the lockout, he has really blown it this year (Not trading Malik and Montoya during the summer, signing Tyutin and Lundwvist to contracts that are far heavier than they are worth, trading for Backman, not pulling the trigger on the Bernier deal).

  3. I feel the letdown game coming… (they actually had one and still got a point out of it the other night against the fish).

Hank better be sharp as a knife today.

  4. Doodie Machetto,
I posted in the other thread that maybe Slats didn’t want to mess up the chemistry the rangers have going for them with avery. Like I said, I think Sather knows that this could be it for Shanahan and jagr and feels this year is the year these two players have a chance to go to the cup, just speculation on my part.

  5. anyone think Prucha should be sent to Hartford for conditioning, I mean he hasn’t played now for quite a while, and when Cally went down he came back really in good shape, maybe it could help since Pru doesn’t appear to be getting into the games…

  6. Last weekend the flyers were playing there second game in two nights against the rangers and I figured the rangers would come out flying and to my disbelief the flyers had more energy for most of the game. I expect the rangers to have the sharper legs today but who knows.

  7. I want to see some seriously solid defense today… Backman better his shite together. I hope Malik can sustain his “higher” level of play that he’s had recently.

Why do we always have to play the B’s in the afternoon? We never play solid hockey in the afternoon… let alone against the Bruins.

Anyone know where I can watch the game on this internet thing today? (I’m at work so I can’t watch from the comfort of my home).

Agravaine, I have been suggesting Prucha take a trip to Hartford for over a week now. He needs to be game ready should the spot in the lineup ever open up for him. Not having played in almost a month, he is going to be very rusty.

  9. Doodie- We passed on Parise to draft power forward Hugh Jessiman. Howd that work out?

  10. Does anyone know what’s up with the start of today’s game? Rangers’ website says start time is 3, but the game starts at 4 on MSG??

Go NYR, what does that have to do with what I was saying? I was saying that since the lockout, he had been doing a great job. What does the 2003 draft have to do with that?

Sam, do you think you could ask Renney if he has considered sending Prucha to Hartford for conditioning?

  12. Doodie Machetto on

ranger, your tv clock probably didn’t adjust to daylight savings time.

  13. Anisimov actually is a big player. He’s the youngest player in the NHL and hasn’t filled out his frame yet.

Yeah, what is up with Rangers/Bruins always during the day?

Jagr is probably gonna be seeing a lot of his ole’ buddy Aaron Ward today.

Sam, with all of the imposters, it’s hard to tell if that’s actually you, but if it is, thanks.

  15. SAM did Prucha refuse? It could help him get in game shape, and his confidence back.

  16. yea thanks Sam,

the game is on at 3 in twenty minutes roughly.

I hope we have a solid defensive game as well Bakman did better last game so maybe he is settling.

  17. I think the NHL messed up with the times..maybe the expected people not to know it was daylights saving?

NHL.com said that the caps/pengs game was supposed to start at 12:30, yet it started at 1:30 on the TV

I think it starts at 4?

  18. I cannot believe that the kid Bachman just scored on his own goal, that’s got to hurt, wow.

  19. Doodie Machetto on

tomg, I think you’ve got “I hate Backman” syndrome. BackSTROM scored on his own team. hahaha.

Sam, I assume a puff piece will follow because the kid was from the LoHud. I am looking forward to reading it.

  20. Boy, good to see the rangers are coming out sharp, yea right.
They look like there hung over from the time change, geez.

  21. No prob, you are actually ahead of the tv, so if anythign happens you’ll know first with that. Hank looks sharp the boys have some rust but I think they’ll shake it off…

  22. The good thing is Lundqvist looks like he has shown up for the game, lundqvist has made several big saves already.

  23. Doodie Machetto on

Agravaine, conditioning assignments are by mutual decision. If a player refuses, he doesn’t go. This is unlike being demoted to the minors, where the player doesn’t get a say, but has to pass through waivers if he meets certain qualifications, which Prucha does.

  24. Thanks Doodie I didn’t realize that. Prucha is silly if he refuses t, he would do better to get into a game than just sit idle…

  25. It’s good to see that henrik is back with us, if it wasn’t for henrik in that 1st period the rangers would be down at least 2-0.

  26. Yea he came out sharp, maybe win number 30 was weighin on him… I don’t know but the boys were just shaking off the rust hopefully they come out with a strong second period… fearlful beacuse it is generally (I think) our weakest period…

  27. not sure what game on is, but Sjostrom really allows Betts a little more room/comfort to bring out his offensive abilities.

  28. sorry, Game On is the blog at msg.com that lets you mail in to hockey night live and such.. its just another blog but this one has better bloggers then Game on

  29. salty, part of what I’ve been saying is that Betts was good but needed another hockey player on his line, Sjostrem is fulfilling that role nicely

  30. Love the Betts-Shoe speed.

How is it possible that the Rangers can have a PP that is unacceptable for years on end? It took 95 seconds to get it set up.

  31. Colton,

yea they need to come out smoking, maybe a SH goal… I don’t know but soehting to have control of the period.

    Salty,

yea I’d say this is my fav blog, toss up between here and Ranger Nation (becuase I really like the forum)

  32. My god, did anyone else see Ron Duguay’s suit when he was on during the break?! Disturbing.

  33. That was a bizaro suit Duguay had on. It looked like it was made out of some old fashioned draperies from a mortuary.

Duguay should take fashion advise from Sean “GQ” Avery and stick to crushed velvet.
