The people have spoken

88

In the time since I put up the Jaromir Jagr poll, I completely reconfigured my living room, only to discover an emergency of the first order: the remote control now doesn’t work from the couch.

Decades from now, when I refer to my rough-and-tumble years, this is what I’ll be talking about.

Meanwhile, in the same time, more than 400 of you chimed in on what the Rangers should do with their captain. Not surprisingly, almost half of you said you wanted to see Jagr traded, while the other half were split on wanting to see Jagr finish out the year and walk, or  see the Rangers try to re-sign the captain at season’s end.

What does it all mean?  Well, pretty much nothing, unless one of you happens to be Glen Sather (and by the way, if the Rangers GM is spending the precious final days before the trade deadline voting on silly blog polls, then your beloved franchise is in big trouble). But I guess it does shed a light on public sentiment.

Like I said before, I don’t see Jagr being moved unless Sather can bring in something substantial in return. The East is too close, and Jagr is still too valuable.  Whether that means he’ll be back next season is another story.

I say a lot depends on how he finishes this season.

  1. Sam – How are you continuing to call Jagr valuable? He’s not valuable in his current role. He needs to be a 2nd line winger with limited PP time. It’s time to start looking at him for what he is, instead of what you hope he could be.

I realize you all (beat reporters) like the guy, but it’s painfully obvious he just isn’t a franchise winger anymore.

  2. Prucha27, I don’t agree with you on this. Sam’s opinion of him is based on what Jagr has been through his entire career, not a media bias.

I’m not saying Jagr is performing to expectations by any means, but he gets plenty of attention from opposing teams. When you have a player who affects your opponent’s strategy (successful or not), that player has value.

One bad year (by Jagr’s standards) out of his last 10 does not mean a player is finished. Granted he is getting older, but one year isn’t enough time to draw the conclusion that he’s done. For all we know, he might be pressing because he wants to stay with the Rangers next year and he thinks the only way to do that is at the discounted rate. Point is, nobody can say for sure what the problem is.

Comparing Jagr’s $5M per year to current market prices, the Rangers are getting their money’s worth. Living up to expectations is the problem.

  3. Jonathan Probber on

I’m with Larry Brooks on this one. Trade Jagr to a western team, not out of spite, but simply because he’d do better, and we might get some players (e.g. a competent defenseman) who’d really help.

  4. Doodie Machetto on

Jagr to SJ for Bernier and Erhoff. Any thoughts?

I think it might be a little steep for SJ to pony up if they are snakebitten from how much trading for Guerin cost them. Erhoff is a young, big, physical D-man, so he would suit our needs there, but Bernier is a young power forward, who loves to hit. He is also a RW, replacing Jagr’s spot in the lineup. So if we can only get one, I think I would take Bernier, and hope Staal puts on 10-15 lbs during the offseason, and that Tyutin remembers how to hit.

Clowe is an alternative to Bernier, but he plays LW. I think we have enough LWs in our system, and really need RWs, since if JJ and Shanny both go, we’ll have a big hole.

And if anyone mentions Patrick Marleau, I will completely disregard you because he is useless for the following reasons:

    1) He is a high price center. We don’t need those.
    2) His skill is declining, rapidly.
    3) He is a career no show in the playoffs.
    4) He still has 2 years left on his K for 12.6 mil. No way we fit him under the cap.
    5) He has a NTC that kicks in next season.

  5. the trades have begun.

ott trades joe corvo and patrick eaves to canes for mike commodore and cory stillman

this helps the sens short term. more of a long term deal for the canes.

  6. the sharks would probably be more likely to offer Carle and a draft pick. just what they offered for Wade Redden, who said no because he has a NTC

  7. Doodie Machetto on

dlb, that offer was for a defenseman. This is a forward, and Ottawa was looking for something very specific in return. If they offered Carle and a pick for Redden, perhaps they would offer Bernier or Erhoff, straight up for Jagr.

Besides, if any of their rivals load up, particularly the Stars, they might be pressured to make a deal to keep up, just like the Suns trading for Shaq in response to the Lakers trading for Gasol.

  8. The Sharks coach Wilson had jagr in wash and said he would never coach him again for his actions with wash.

  9. Doodie Machetto on

“The Sharks coach Wilson had jagr in wash and said he would never coach him again for his actions with wash.”

Good stuff. Back to the drawing board for me.

  10. “The Sharks coach Wilson had jagr in wash and said he would never coach him again for his actions with wash.”

right. and it shows that the jagr critics here are right on the money. it is not just the fans who feel this way. team insiders are just as turned off by his selfish pouting

  11. Earlier in the year I had read somewhere, I forgot where but it mentioned that the red wings came calling to sather and inquired about Jagr and if he would trade Jagr and Sather’s response waqs that he would have to be swept off his feet. I really doubt Jagr is going to be traded.

  12. Doodie Machetto on

“I love Jagr, but I love the Rangers more. If he can bring a solid return, then why not?”

That’s exactly how I feel. It’s sad to see him like this.

With Cleary injured, think we can send Shanny back to Detroit for a pick?

Or Shanny to SJ for Bernier or Erhoff! I want one of them so badly!

  13. “I’ll say it again:

Jagr to SJ for Bernier and Erhoff.”

no way would the sharks offer both of them for jagr.

bernier OR carle maybe, not both would be offered. jagr is less valuable than redden

  14. Doodie Machetto on

tom, that was when we were still battling near the top of the division, not when we were scraping for a playoff spot. I think it would take considerably less to get him intrigued at this point. In other words, he would still have to be swept off of his feet, but that is a relative thing at this point. Sweeping him off of his feet for a guy who is projected to hit maybe 65 pts is going to be a much smaller offer than the guy you expected to hit at least 100.

I think a solid young player or a pick and prospect is a good return for Jags at this point.

  15. Doodie Machetto on

Here’s a good question: do you dump Jagr now, or do you wait unil closer to the deadline? If you deal now, there are more potential suitors to start a bidding war, but if you wait, the market might set prices ridiculously high (Tkachuk to Atl last season). the risk of waiting though is twofold: first, that the market isn’t very high because of how badly Tkachuk, Guerin, and Forsberg failed last season, and second, all the potential suitors might load up their teams elsewhere.

  16. How about Jagr to Det for Kromwell and a 2nd rounder?

Also, in regards to coaches; isn’t Keeenan coaching Amonte this year? The very Amonte he chased out of NY?

  17. Doodie Machetto,
I don’t disagree as it has been well documented on this blog that they should trade jagr but I just got this feeling because the way the eastern conference is this year with most teams in the playoff hunt that sather will not make any big trades. I can see sather making a minor deal and that’s about it. Time will tell in the next two weeks.

  18. They have the Coyotes and Stars game on VS and wow, there is no one in the stands…it’s emptier than AHL during the week games….

I don’t want to trade our stars for picks…if we trade our big names, I want young but ready to play players…I’ve got a feeling though there’s gonna be no big trades and all of this speculation , debate, and argument will be for nothing…if anything, maybe Prucha is traded or Malik, but no bog names are leaving here…

  19. Alex,
I totally agree with you, if sather does make a trade I can see Prucha being packaged with malik or mara for a defensemen.

I think it’s the latter part that you discussed above. Last year teams that mortgaged there future who really weren’t close to winning a cup got burnt like the predators, islanders and a few other that traded away 1st round picks and young players for rental players that this year GM’s have learned it’s not worth it with the way the new CBA works.

  21. Unless you are like a team like the senators who feel they are
really close to winning the cup than you take your chance on trading for rental players that you feel will get you there.

  22. Doodie Machetto on

tomg, I hear you. But I am just dreaming of a world where we have a reasonable GM.

Wouldn’t he prefer to jut sell everyone so he can get on the golf course a little sooner?

C’mon Glen, golf and cigars! In fact, you go play now, and let me handle everything.

  23. I read these words in the ESPN.com article about Shaq’s move to Phoenix and thought they were relevant to the Jagr discussion:

“I’m a historian of the game, so I understand that on this team I’m probably a big role player, and I have no problem with that,” O’Neal said. “I did my thing in my prime, and it’s Amare’s prime right now. I think it’s my job to get him to the next level. Toward the end of my career, I have no problem coming here and just fitting in and just helping these guys get to the next level.”

He compares his job to the role of an aging Kareem Abdul-Jabbar on the “Showtime” Lakers teams of Magic Johnson and James Worthy.

“Kareem was fortunate enough to have those style of players around him toward the end of his career, and I sort of feel like him now,” O’Neal said. “I’m no idiot. I’m not going to come in here trying to take over and take 30 shots. I’m going to fit in very nicely — rebound, outlet to Steve, get some easy buckets, play some defense. That’s all we need to do.”

  24. Jagr’s a funny guy, but Shaq is a lot more laid back than him. :)P

In the offseason, there’s so many d-men available; Campbell, Boyle, Commodore, Lilles, Redden..one will go to NYR.

what do people here think of Stillman? I’ve always liked him since he was traded for Conroy like 7 years ago. I think he could be a temp replacement for Straka and can keep a seat warm for the Russian prospects.

  25. MikeA,
This is why I don’t think the rangers are going to make any big splashes in the trade market this year because why trade
your young players when your not that close to winning a cup and you can save your kids and draft picks, probably still make the playoffs and you never know in the playoffs and fill the holes on your team in the off season through free agency.

  26. I liked the trade for Ottaw alota, Stillman is a real solid player, if we could get him next year I’d do it… and Commodore is a playoff performer…obviously the catch is their free agency statuses (stati?)

Maybe I read this here, I can’t remember but somewhere I read that Jagr was asked what he though about Bill Belichek and he said that before the superbowl he thought his name was Beliczeck…and now it should be Belarus…he is a pretty funny guy, I’ll give him that much

  27. First of all, while I understand the idea of wanting to trade Jagr, I think you completely change the dynamic of the team by doing so, and in a bad way for guys like Malik, Prucha, Roszival, and Straka. I also think the guy has been ice cold for 2 weeks or so but clearly hasn’t stopped trying. He’s currently on the second PP unit, where he belongs with the other Czechs. And I still think that player that scores lots of points is in there somewhere.

I also happen to think that as inconsistent as the Rangers have been, A. So has the rest of the East, and B. The Rangers have beaten up on everyone above and below them except for Ottawa, Boston and the Isles. 5-0 vs. NJ, 4-1 vs. Phi, 3-2 vs. Pitts, 3-0 vs. the Habs, 2-0-2 vs. the Caps. ONce the playoffs start – and let’s face it the Rangers most likely ARE going to the playoffs because for them to miss Boston and Buffalo would have to both make it and by virtue of them them beating up on eaxh other probably won’t – the Rangers could so easily make a run. One thing about this team is that they play their best when they absolutley must win – so much so, in fact, that that’s the single biggest problem the team has. When they’re mentally prepared and play their system correctly, they pretty much can beat anyone in the East. I for one think they probably will go on a bit of a run at the end of the year and won’t be the least bit surprised if they wind up the #2 seed.

Finally, in addition to Jagr’s other baggage, his “statistically challenged year” and his age, there’s the fact that Jagr has stated, publicly and many times over, that hge loves NY and wants to remain here. Even if he did waive his NTC, he’d be completely distraught (especially an emotional guy like Jagr) and be nearly completely ineffective. Plus, the team taking him on would be on the hook for his entire salary, even if it’s only for part of the year.

Bottom line is, I think he’s still an asset to this team right now (and by the way, everyone thought it was so lame that earlier in the year only Dubinsky seemed to work with Jagr. Anyone consider that maybe Renney was doing that just as much for Dubi as for Jagr?), a team that I think could still EASILY come out of the East, and I think no team is going to pay the kind of ransom we’d love to see for him. Not happening, and shouldn’t.

  28. their chance of beating a healthy ott or det or ana is near zero.

    they can’t even beat LA.

and screw the other czechs on the team. that is like saying that you can’t trade Shanny because the other canadians like avery and girardi will pout. that is ludicrous.

once again, it is all about jagr and his cronies, instead of the team. that says it all

  29. Previously Unthinkable Statistics…

Would you have guessed these stats prior this season…

1.)Rosival would have just two fewer goals than Jagr?

2.) Ryan Calahan would have only 2 goals!!

3.) Prucha would have only 7 goals

3.) Valiquette would have a GAA under Lundquists

4.) Girardi would have the same amount of points as Straka

5.) Our best +/- guys would be Hossa, Dawes, Prucha, and Stall

    6.) Jagr would statisticall insignificant

    * Other rusprises considering the season…Drury leads the team in scoring and is on pace for has seasonal average in most categories

  30. Great trade talk!

Jagr not being normal Jagr is “sole” reason NYR are scuffling for last playoff spot and not challenging for east lead. Everyone else has performed right at, slightly better or slightly worse than last year/expected to. Give Jags 6 more goals and 15 more points you don’t think Rangers are at least tied for division lead?

    All that said, the present beckons;

A healthy and focused Henrik is key to last 20 or so games; Jags or no Jags.

    Sens are going for it!

Ron Wilson is “THE REASON” Sharks under-achieve.Dynamic players playing dull system. In 2006 playoffs after losing 2 games to Roloson and Oilers, series was tied; and he panics.. he had Sharks practice missing the net with shots on purpose…to get rebounds off the wall. Roloson was in his head! Thorton-Cheechoo and Marleau practicing MISSING THE NET!

    Are the Islanders dead??

  31. So there’s one team in the East you think they’ll never beat? And two in the West? So what?

I also recognize the idea that its ludicrous with the whole “Czech posse” thing. But I’m just pointing out that if you trade Jagr, you’re deciding to give up this year, which has been disappointing for sure, but is nowhere near lost. They won’t give up, nor should they. They’ve been mediocre in a completely mediocre conference – nothing to aspire to, certainly – but have shown that when they pull it together, they’re a very tough team to beat. And they do seem to pull it together when the stakes are high. Not only that, but head-to-head, they’ve been the best team in the Atlantic by a wide margin.

All I can say is that if they come back next week and Lunqvist and Jagr find their games, this team could easily go on a run and wind up winning the Atlantic. Easily.

  32. that is ridiculous. Thornton, Cheechoo, and Marleau have all had their best seasons under R Wilson. not this year.

they lost to Edm in 06 because after winning the first 2 games, torres went headhunting on Michalek, knocking him out of the series. and that has been the problem all along. they are too soft, they went out and got shelley just for that reason.

notice that selanne and Kariya both had great seasons under wilson in ana.

and also notice that babcock could not do squat in ana, but in det with scotty bowmans’ players and strategy he is all of a sudden a winner. but not in the playoffs

  33. …Peter….I agree and…..whats the worst scenario with Jagr? This rush to TRADE HIM NOW TO GET SOMETHING!! He walks after the season and frees up 5 Million cap space?

we thank him for helping bring us back to respectability(remember where we were when we got him?)and we move on with Drury-Goofy Gomez-Henrik-Staal-Dubi and the young russians

  34. since when is getting rid of a big name giving up?

COLO has done fine without 3 big names

Pitt has done OK without Crosby

if jagr gets injured, will the others just give up? no, and not if he’s traded either.

  35. the idea is to win the stanley cup, not the atlantic div

the dumbest thing to do is to win the atlantic

the best thing in the east is to finish 6th because you then face the weakest team in the playoffs, the southeast winner

  36. Rangers are not good enough to PLAY THEIR BEST WHEN THEY NEED TO…

Who we talkin about here? Late 90’s Wings? Redsox waiting to be down 3-1??

this is a team that beat Atlanta in a playoff series after beating moe-larry-curley and shemp (LEAFS-HABS-ISLES AND TAMPA) for 6th place c’mon man!!

You guys make it seem like they have a ‘stretch drive history’ and a patented “kick”

Beating the LA kings at home while they are on a 3 game win streak IS when they need to play their best.

    Time for Crown Royal

  37. From the other entry, if Jagr doesn’t reach his goals, which he won’t, we don’t pay him 8 million immediately. He becomes a UFA and we have to give him a new contract. I don’t think he’ll ask for 8 million.

Another thing, what do the rest of you think of Vermette? I know he’s being shopped and I’d love to have him if we can move Drury to wing and sign him as a 2nd or 3rd line center. He’s 25 with loads of upside and we’d just have to extend his contract since hes an RFA at the end of the year.

  38. I am coming to you guys for help. I need to find a statistics page that seperates defensive and offensive zone face offs. I had it once before but I can’t find it again, and I really need to look something up. If any of you know of a site I would be much obliged. Sorry for being Off topic, I’m just really desperate. I have already tried nhl.com, espn.com, cbc.ca, tsn.ca, newyorkrangers.com and somehwere else but I don’t recall where (Anyway maybe I missed it) thanks again.

  39. from TSN—

San Jose coach Ron Wilson earned his 500th career victory, moving into a tie with Toe Blake for 10th place on the all-time list — one behind Pat Burns.

    some underachiever, eh?

    Peter:

“I for one think they probably will go on a bit of a run at the end of the year and won’t be the least bit surprised if they wind up the #2 seed.”

Dude, I have GOT to have what you are smoking! there is NO way they come above 3rd in the division this year. So what, they have been good against Philly and the Debbies. They suck against every other team! They currently are 6 pts out with 3 games played more than the Flyers. Suppose they win all three games against Philly. That’ll just bring them even in points. Who do you think will have the better record over the other 23 games? You’re crazy. Absolutely crazy.

Oh, and Jagr doesn’t have a no trade clause. So he has nothing to consent to being dealt.

Dude, I like the optimisim, but rejoin reality. This team is not good. It has a chance of making the playoffs on the sole fact that the southeast division is terrible. End of story.

  41. Doodie Machetto on

    “I know he’s being shopped”

He’s not being shopped. Ottawa needed defensive grit and secondary scoring. They got it today. They will retain Vermette for the playoffs, and probably resign him during the offseason.

  42. I just learned that VS got a two year contract extension with the NHL…wtf?!…Bettman is an idiot, not having the NHL on ESPN is marginalizing hockey completely…we need ESPN’s advertising of the sport…the only time they have reports is when a skate cuts someone’s jugular or there’s a 21 game suspension…it gets me really pissed

  43. Jagr Quote from the NY Times on if his lack of scoring is due to him “not caring”.

“If somebody doesn’t care, would they have the numbers like I do over my career?” Jagr said. “It’s kind of impossible. Or I would have to be a bigger talent than Gretzky, and I’m not. If I have those numbers over 18 years, can you imagine how good I would be if I cared? Can you imagine that?”

  44. there’s jagr talking about his numbers again. notice he’s not talking about the TEAM, but about HIMSELF, as usual.

he is selfish, and he proves it over and over again.

  45. Eh, FWIW, Jagr was asked about himself, he responded accordingly…

Guys frustrated as hell…I do think he cares, I don’t think that really matters at this point though. Let him try hard in the rockies baby! ADIOS JARDA.

    What movie?:

    “He worked real hard, Grandma.”

    “…so do washing machines.”

  46. the east is so awful. i wouldnt bet on it but i could see the rangers coming out of it. nobody in the conference jumps off the page. the Sens are obviously the best team but are they dominant or unbeatable? with this in mind and the potential that jagr still has make it seem like a no-brainer to keep him in my opinion.

  47. Why I still despise Sather, Maloney (now doing a number on Phoenix), and Renney.

  48. salty – (movie) Xmas Vacation??

spooky – That’s why I took a day or two off, it’s tough sometimes. But I think I’ve gathered myself enough to come back.

The hardest part is being able to skip comments when you see a certain name. It adds to the confusion when you leave parts of a conversation out, but it’s the only way to enjoy it here. There’s lots of people that drop by with a ridiculous comment sometimes, but just tell yourself that it’s a free country and if someone wants to spew garbage it’s their choice, as it is others choice to ignore it. Granted, its much harder to ignore, but it’s worth it to try.

  49. I’ve got it!

Ok, now you have to change a few things here, but the principle is there. Change “movies” to “hockey/Rangers” and change “actors” to “players”. Then, name the movie.

“The internet is a communications tool used the world over, where people can come together to bitch about movies and share pornography with one another.” “This is a site populated by militant movie buffs: sad, pathetic little bastards living in their parents’ basement downloading scripts and what they think is inside information about movies and actors they claim to despise yet can’t stop discussing.”

  50. Keenan chased Huselius out of Florida and he’s coaching him now in Calgary. It’s a valid point about Wilson not wanting to coach JJ again, but I don’t think it’s an automatic thing. JJ would be a good fit in any of Calgary, Anahiem, SJ, Dallas and Vancouver. It will be interesting to see what happens once one of (or both) Forsberg and Sundin find a new home. Rival teams then may become more motivated to respond.

  51. HENRICK 6 years 36 million……… thank god they got it done i said from the begining thats the biggest thing they have to do this week. this can be a great to start to a playoff run. last year they picked up Avery and things changed this year they signed Henrick to an extension and got him to settle down and bring us into the playoffs.

  52. Where did you read that they signed Henrik for 6 years at 36 million? I can’t find it anywhere.

  53. one of my good freinds works in the offices at the garden. also if u read the article in the post about avery they give u the details but said its just about done. but i know for sure its done now

    some post!

any late updates on how Jessiman’s been doing? is he a true bust?

  55. Jessiman was a guarenteed bust. We drafted him because he had 1 good season at Dartmouth. Then his numbers declined every year after that and in his last year he had 2 points in 12 games. We could’ve had a lot of guys that were locks like Brent Seabrook (Not the best but hes a pretty solid defenseman). Parise had a much more dominant season than Jessiman, Getzlaf just came off a major improvement season for the Calgary Hitmen, and Mike Richards the same just with the Kitchener Rangers. I wonder how much the old style of NHL played into the decision. Had it been today I think we take Parise, but even back then Getzlaf was a pretty big guy and a power forward type that we could’ve used.

  56. Oh and Jessiman is the only 1st round pick from 2003 yet to play an NHL game. Its sad…actually its not. Its just stupid.

“He’s not being shopped. Ottawa needed defensive grit and secondary scoring. They got it today. They will retain Vermette for the playoffs, and probably resign him during the offseason.”

I know they got Stillman and Commodore, but I heard they were trying to make a deal with San Jose and since Redden won’t waive his NTC, Vermette might be included in a deal there. I dont think he’ll go, but its worth a shot to try to get him.

  57. If that headache with Henry is really over and the contract is signed, thank god. Henry can go back to concentrating on playing and will not feel the pressure that comes with a contract negotiation. He will return to “The King” status starting Saturday. You heard it hear first. I hope I am right and JoeJoe is as well.

  58. What is peoples initial reaction to 6 at $6M?

My gut says maybe too long, and maybe not enough pressure to produce…but it’s obviously a steal if Henke somehow harnesses his game and can find some form of consistancy through the regular season and maintain the ability to be a playoff/big game thief…

I am surprised though. Knowing Slats, I think thats a generous contract for how’s been this season.

  59. I forgot where I read it, maybe one of Dellapina’s columns but
he stated that the reason why the deal was close but not yet done was because sather wanted to give an 8 year deal but lundqvist wanted a shorter deal (less years).

  60. “He will return to “The King” status starting Saturday. You heard it hear first.”

haha watch him give up like 8 goals. I hope not, but we’ll see. That deal isn’t bad. I was actually expecting him to get more, but based on his recent performance and just overall inconsistency throughout his career, hes not worth more than 6 mil. It frees up more room in the offseason to sign players…not that there are too many free agents out there that look all that special.

“I know they got Stillman and Commodore, but I heard they were trying to make a deal with San Jose and since Redden won’t waive his NTC, Vermette might be included in a deal there. I dont think he’ll go, but its worth a shot to try to get him.”

They aren’t trying to get anything in specific from SJ. What they are trying to do is get something in return for Redden. He is UFA and the Sens won’t have the money to resign him. Better to deal him for something decent than to let him walk. That’s why they have been shopping him since the draft, when he first invoked his NTC to block a trade.

As for Hank’s deal, if true, I wouldn’t want more years. In fact, I would’ve wanted less. 5 for $5 per would’ve made me happy. It wouldn’t have broken the bank, plus it would’ve allowed us to evaluate whether he can actually play a consistent season that will make him worth big bucks. If he shows he’s worth it, you sign him up for another 5 or 6 at 8 per.

Paying him more now hurts us with the two heavy contracts that we will be carrying for the next 4 years. After Drury is gone, we’ll have more money to play with.

  62. I really hope Hank’s back to KING status on Sat. Obviously, we need it… badly. Valley playing well and all but we need our Henrik to be King.

That being said… we need Jagr to be Jagr too. On that front there is no contract to be signed or shake-up (unless Renney screws with the lines, AGAIN). There’s only one person that can do anything to make Jagr, Jagr again and that’s himself. I doubt he can and I also doubt he’s going anywhere until next season (if he even decides to play next year).

Maybe he can sit on the sidelines for the whole season and come back just as the stretch run starts… it’s the trend.

  63. That is the trend, isn’t it? Kinda lame, yet pretty damn smart. Should have been done with Shanahan.

I want Jagr gone so bad I can taste it. I have no faith in this club to do the right thing. I’m also not that lucky.

I think Jagr goes and we DEFINITELY make the playoffs playing a much different flavor of hockey down the stretch.

  64. Aren’t we all Rangers FANS?

Let’s stop the nonsense of talking about trading Jagr, Aint gonna happen, PERIOD.
    Renney Loves Him
    Sather Loves Him
The Team Loves him (and they do , everyone always supports him in interviews, etc.)
There’s absolutely no one who is going take him at this stage of the season ($$$), he doesn’t want to leave NY, and NY doesn’t want to get rid of him. Everyone always bitches about Renney’s too many line changes, not enough cohesion in the team. Yeah trading our captain away would do wonders.

    5 day vacation/23 games left
Hank needed the rest to get his A game back and between him and Vally, I see them coming back in his Novemebr form.
Jagr is going to explode within these last 23 games, mark my words. He’s too good, and is too talented not too.
Removing Tyutin from the PP play will be a HUGE factor, and Staal will be making the difference
IF,a nd I’ll say that again, IF Sather makes any trades it will be defense. Malik, Mara, but I wouldnt be suprised if he doesn’t do anything. And with Prucha hurt, and running around the ice every single game giving it 120%, I jsut dont see him being an option for a trade this year.
Shanahan – How can all of you hate on him so much. He’s going to retire a ranger, this season or next so get over it. And give the guy a break. He was playing hurt for what a month? Watch him break out in the last 23 as well.
Drury has found his Mr. Clutch ways again so he’s going to keep goign on his current tear as well.

Have some faith people, our blood is blue, not chicken shit let’s trade everyone yellow.

“I think Jagr goes and we DEFINITELY make the playoffs playing a much different flavor of hockey down the stretch.”

No. That’s even more ludicrous than saying we would make it with him.

You clearly have a hatred of Jagr, which is fine, you’re entitled to that. But the fact of the matter is that the team has almost no offense, and no other line plays Jagr’s style except for Jagr’s. So all of a sudden, without Jagr on the team, the other lines that don’t produce are going to start producing? That makes no sense. The fact of the matter is that we were relying on Jagr to get 90+ pts this season. He is going to finish maybe with 60. That’s 30 goals he won’t directly help create, not to mention how many more opportunities for his linemates and other lines to score would open if he was an elite offensive threat.

But do you think that the lines he doesn’t play on are going to miraculously start scoring more goals once he’s gone? Get real.

Hate him if you want, but it doesn’t change the fact that no one on our team has 20 goals, and we have a hard time getting 3 in one game, and when we do, it always looks like at least one of them was a soft goal (i.e., Drury’s goal against the Caps)
