Man, the Rangers can’t catch any breaks. Karel Rachunek will again be a scratch with an injured groin, meaning the defenseman won’t have a chance to duplicate his heroics from Oct. 25.
As for Sean Avery, his marching orders from Tom Renney are to try to keep it simple—play with his usual fire, yes, but don’t try to do too much in his first game back.
“He’s ready to play hockey that’s the most important thing,” Renney said. “But I think in this case it’s walk before you run.
Still unclear is where Avery will play since Renney said he hadn’t made up his mind. It sounds like the coach wants to start him with Brandon Dubinsky and Petr Prucha in deference to the success Nigel Dawes has had with Chris Drury and Brendan Shanahan, but I won’t be surprised if the coach switches it up mid-game. Avery is also expected to be part of the penalty kill.
