Speaking of Holik, he's being tried as a scoring center again, playing with the first-line wings of Hossa and Kozlov in Atlanta. That will definitely fizzle out faster than Marcel Hossa on the first line in NYR. I think Kovalchuk would be better on the first line in ATL, but it doesn't really matter as long as Marian Hossa plays like crap in the playoffs.

How has Jessiman looked thus far?

And when are we going to see the new sweaters?

September 15th, 2007 at 5:49 pm
“1.Trading Anson Carter for Jaromir Jagr and convincing the Caps they should still pay 1/2 his $$$
no, it was Leonsis’ screw up, he was desperate to get rid of Jagr and made McPhee do a horrible trade

This is a flawed argument. You can't dismiss this because you want to. The fact is, Sather made the trade, whether it is convenient for your argument or not.

“2. Hiring Tom Renny as head coach
Renney was his fall guy, how is that genious? The guy gets outcoached every game.

Debatable, considering he has a winning record. Bottom line: Winning is the ultimate measurement of a coach. Your opinion is that he is outcoached, but for someone who is always asking for proof (BTW- Read BB and you'll see Renney quotes about scouting Callahan PLAYING CENTER in Junior!) this argument does not hold water. Unless again, you want to just use your opinion where it suits you.

“3. Trading Ward and 2nd tier prospects for Sean Avery
Avery was a good trade but we gave up a 2nd round selection, 3rd rounder and Ward who is not a bad player

C'mon. Don't throw Ward in there as a loss. Yeah, he was an okay player, but Avery has proven he was worth the investment. Cliche is a good prospect, but we had several already like him. Sometimes chips are played to get you pieces you don't have. We had nothing like Avery in the system. Money well spent, IMO.

“4. Dangling the RFA carrot infront of Avery all of this coming season to maximize his potential
and likely Avery will leave carrot or no carrot

Agreed. But I prefer Avery on a short term contract due to his history of wearing out his welcome. I don't know if that qualifies Sather as a genius, but I understand the move. I like Avery, but I won't be devastated if he walks after this year.

“5. Trading Pasqual Dupris for Bourret
you forgot a 3rd round pick, and it was more of desperation from Atlanta, than Sather’s genius.

There you go again, You can't say Sather is an idiot for making some moves and then turn around and say he is lucky the other GM was desperate/stupid on others. For you to have any credibility in an argument (despite others saying they agree with everything you say) you need to give an take. Sorry, but turning Hall (a FA) and a third rounder into Bourrett is genius. Your dismissing this is desperation on your part.

“6. Drafting Lundqvist, Staal, Cherepenov, Prucha, Callahan etc etc
he had zero input in drafting them

But you probably blame Sather for drafting Jessiman? Can't have it both ways. Sather gets credit just because HE is the GM. The buck stops with him. He gets the credit AND the blame.

“7. Stealing Gomez from the N J Devils (betters the Rangers , hurts the Devils)
Gomez is an overrated and overpaid turd. Sather also stole Holik from Devils, what a steal that was.

Whether Gomez is worth it or not remains to be seen. You've made your contempt for him very clear. As a Ranger fan, I'm going to give him a shot. You are correct on Holik being a disaster, but you can't argue that it didn't weaken the Devils. Holik was a Ranger killer. Whether Gomez pans out or not, him no longer being on the Devils hurts that team.

“8. Signing Chris Drury (betters the Rangers hurts the Sabres)
what is the genius here?

So you are saying that anyone could have signed Drury? Maybe, but again, he did it. Smart move.

“9. Trading scraps for Marcel Hossa (now a 1st liner?)and Colton Orr (breaks faces)
2 useless players that take up spots from good prospect, that is real genius.

I used to agree with you on Hossa, but he could surprise this year. Hossa for Garth Murray was a good trade. Orr plays his role well. His presence is more along the lines of whether you believe in a goon being necessary or not. I'd rather have Orr and Strudwick or Hollweg in the press box than Staal, Dawes or Dubinsky.

ELK -

I don't know how much (or how little) experience you have in the REAL business world - you know, that rude wake up call BEYOND idealistic classroom theory, but if you were a GM, and some puking coaching hire came to you and started telling you how to do our job, that little prick would be out on the street in two minutes - as soon as you finished your rant at his stupidity and arrogance.

Look, if a hire implies that he knows more about your job than you do, and you don't handle it, it is guaranteed he will be lobbying the owner behind your back for your job, on the basis of lies about how he suggested this great trade, and that great signing, and can do more for the organization than you can.

Anyone thinking Renney can tell Sather what to do, beyond responding to Sather's requests of Renney for input, needs to go to your boss tomorrow and tell him how to do his job - for a timely jolt of how things work in the real business world.

Part of this mentality I blame on Hollywood. Many years ago Hugh Hefner wrote about Hollywood filmdom's "common man" syndrome, whereby, invariably, some jerk corporal would dress down a lieutenant or a colonel for being "dumb" or "too harsh on the men," etc. - and get away with it. Never happened in my time in the service, and if it had, it would have been major brig time and a court martial in two seconds, flat. So again, little guys with no power, if they are smart, do not attempt to usurp the authority of their superiors - that is, if they want to get ahead in their career and in life.

It's time Tom Renney got a little respect around here for the job he is doing and for knowing his place in the pecking order, which keeps him in the position so long as the team plays hard and well for him.

Avery will become a free agent, why, because like the other sports this is a business. Avery will want the most money and years he can get, it's not about the rangers it's about Shawn Avery. By Avery going to free agency he will have teams to bid for him for the highest amount possible with years.
