It won’t be long now

Just when you thought I had disappeared into a cave…

Yes, apologies are in order for the lapses between posts. Between having a lot my golf plate and not having much new to report on the hockey front, I figured we should take the time to rest now so that we’re fresh for the season ahead.

I can’t promise things will be back to normal right away. I have one more assignment before training camp starts late next week, but then we can debate back-up goalies, third-line centers, and defensive inadequacies until we all pass out.

Enjoy the last morsels of summer. Pretty soon I’ll be stepping through puddles of slush on the way to the Garden…

  1. OK, while that seems to clearly be an advertisement for something random, I wanted everybody to know that I created that fantasy hockey league on Yahoo that I had talked about and only 6/12 spots are filled so far. It’s league ID 9071, password sam. I think you guys will like the name.

Sam, I suppose you would be covering The Tour Championship in golf because it is the finale, and not next week’s tournament, even though that last one falls inside the Rangers training camp window?

  2. SAM..”we can debate back-up goalies, third-line centers, and defensive inadequacies until we all pass out.”
It seems like Valliquette will be the back-up, Straka would be the best replacement for Cullen, and D will have alot of shaking out in preseason with TEAM D being the priority. The real debate is among NYR management on who’s best for those spots. That’s usually kept secret unless you can uncover it. I doubt they will all agree except to compromise. I’m not even sure who makes the final call, but Sather is the boss, so he has to sign off. It really should be Renney’s decision. GOOD LUCK in finding out the facts!

  3. Sam, I remember at the end of last season there was some doubt as to if you were going to continue your coverage here. Is that untrue or has there been an update that I’ve missed since things seem to be rolling along here?

Does anyone know when MSG is playing there New York Rangers 07 – 08 Season Preview???

I remember the one from last season, it was pretty cool. They were showing clips from that Team Bonding Camp thing, couple of funny clips in there.

Team bonding used to be fun for me. This year however I need to “take out” a d-man or two just to make team. Sorry, this no time to be polite.

I will let the rest of you decide which “two” d-men I should blindside, cross check, board or send to rowdy bar before practice.

    Kaspar

Thanks. Looking foward to it, but to bad, pretty much like everything in September, its all coming in late in the month.

You should probably clip Malik, and get Mara drunk. To bad your not fighting Ozo for a spot on the team. That would be easy, just dangle a bottle of Jack in his face, and boom, he’s off the wagon, and getting DUI’s.

    Speaking of Jack…

    SPIDERPIG

I think it was you asking if there were any Jack-in-the-Box’s around NY…Here’s a few locations.

    1833 E Broad St
    Statesville, NC 28625

    242 Turnersburg Hwy
    Statesville, NC 28625

    7770 Lyles Ln
    Concord, NC 28027

    379 W Plaza Dr
    Mooresville, NC 28117

    Hope that helps.

  7. Orr
thanks but I believe that was fake fake Kaspar asking. I more of a Wendy’s kind of guy.

North Carolina? You trying to tell me something? Their coach hate my guts. Thats a guy who needs a night out for sure.

  8. ORR Knocks Em Out, Jagr Starts to Pout & Prucha Gets the Chances but Hollweg Does the Dances on

Oh woops sorry about that…I typed in New York on the Location page on there website, thats what came up.

Damn i guess they dont have any in New York. Eh, thats NY’s loss.

  9. ORR Knocks Em Out, Jagr Starts to Pout & Prucha Gets the Chances but Hollweg Does the Dances on

How many Kaspars and fake Kaspars are there….Its driving me nuts. Or as JD would say…Bonkers

  10. Still less than how many fake Orrs I’ve seen!

Maybe one day Comrade Sam will allow some kind of ownership for a sign-on name. Once you use it, its yours.

  11. ORR Knocks Em Out, Jagr Starts to Pout & Prucha Gets the Chances but Hollweg Does the Dances on

Maybe one day, Yenner Mot will finally get an real life, new in box, and then use it wisely. Hopefully that will lead him in front of traffic, or by the devils new arena late at night.

  12. Fake Kaspar / Yenner

Im guessing your the ass who pretended to be me, doing the whole Herpes bit. You should consider jumping off the empire state building, maybe that would help you out.

  13. Watching these Ranger Faves reminds of what a nice job Nylander did this past season. Here’s hoping Gomez can fill the gap.

I am sure Nylander, at his age, wanted as large a contract as he could get, and he got it. At his point in your career you are happy you have made it this long, are now earning $4 million per season, guaranteed, with a large family and he gets to play with Semin and Ovechkin. Good for him.

I’ll miss Ortmeyer and Rachunek, but the rest of the crew is back: Shanny, Jagr, Henrik, Toots, Cally, Orr, Pruchs!, Rozy, Holly, Straka, Girardi, Struds, Avery, Bettsy and yes, my boy Malik.

Add to that Scotty Gomez and Chris Drury and the Rangers are just as dangerous as any other team in the league.

I look for Sather to move Mara, maybe Hossa, Dawes and Pock to make room for Staal and free up cap space for a late season acquisition.

  14. ORR Knocks Them Out, Jagr Starts to Pout & Prucha Gets the Chances But Hollweg Does the Dances on

Ill miss Aaron Ward as well….

    (Sarcasm)

  15. I cant wait for Sam to step in clush puddles. Turn on MSG for a great hockey game! I cant believe camp starts next week.

Comrade Kaspar- Malik is an easier target to take out. He is more clumsy.

  16. Been a while since I’ve posted…hope everyone is doing well.

Orr, I miss Aaron Ward, but not nearly as much as Adam Hall

  17. Great, now the fake me is pretending to be the real me calling out other people for being fake. Whoever you are, get a life.

  18. ORR Knocks Em Out, Jagr Starts to Pout & Prucha Gets the Chances but Hollweg Does the Dances on

    P.W.

Ill take your Adam Hall, and raise you a Kevin Weekes.

    CHRIS F.

At least 1 of the 2 fake you’s is easy to talk to, besides the herpes thing. Fake Chris’, Fake Orr’s, Fake Kaspar’s. Maybe we’ll get lucky and Grim Gomer will get hit by a big truck, driven by Sylvestor Stallone, straight out of Over the Top.

    BTW

That was such a great moment when Cullen scored in game 4, for the first time in the series, ATL lead 2 times, but couldnt stop NYR from coming back. Thats when you know your done for. I always wanted to see Avery and Kovalchuk shake hands, i seen Shanahan and Kovalchuk shake hands, and Shanny was giving his some advice it looked like. Anyway that was a great game. Hopefully now they’ll play NYR vs TBL (Orr’s game winner, Hanks shutout) or NYR vs TBL (Jagr’s 600th) or NYR vs BOS (Cally’s first 2 goals / Hank’s shut out) or (The COP (Cullen,Ortmeyer,Prucha)line destroying Boston. Or maybe Our shutout / Orr knocks the fugg out of Fedoruk game against PHI. So many games, to play, so little time.

But dont forget NYR vs NJD (3 goals in 90 seconds by Jagr and Shanahan) That was by far the best game of the year.

  19. Seamus O Riley on

    speaking of which…

what, exactly, is Kasperitits’ official status with the team?
anyone know what he may be planning?
an open camp invite from the Islanders? they need bodies desperately (see Berard)

  20. Seamus O Riley on

Nylander was greedy and it will be a disaster. What is the difference between 4 million and 3.5 million? Unless you are in that stratosphere, you have no clue. I have no clue. It is likley just ego and greed. It is SO much money that he could put it in an interest bearing account and be paid lots…seriously. How much? 4 million in an account could pay him$200,000 per year for the rest of his life, without ever touching the 4 mill. Could you feed 5 kids on 200K?
He is SERIOUSLY wealthy. Even if he was not an investor, per se, given the salaries over the years, he probably makes about $450,000 per year interest/dividends….

He was offered a LOT of money to stay in New York. His greed opened the door for two major signings, rather than one. I thank him.

He played with JAGR, had the two biggest seasons of his career, but will not only return to his career average (he has played on SO many teams, but when you average it out…it comes to about 14 goals) but will NOT hit his “average” numbers as he is OLDER —especially as the contract continues, year after year, and will not have Jagr. The Jagr effect took him to new levels. Hell, Sam could score playing on jagr’s line! Jagr has had this impact on others, as well.

Do some math and take out his two Jagr years and he might average 11 goals per season, and 25 assists. His new team is going to, over the years, truly regret this huge contract. Other teams have carried silly weights (Islanders with Yashin, us with Holik) but now…with the CAP…..oh man.

  21. But dont forget NYR vs NJD (3 goals in 90 seconds by Jagr and Shanahan) That was by far the best game of the year.

    ——–

I was at that game. I don’t know that I’d say that was the best game of the year, but I will say this.

I have seen a lot of stuff go down at the Garden. I saw Gretzky’s playoff hat trick against FLA, saw *Gretzky retire*, the Rangers sweep ATL, and lots of other games over the years, not to mention *countless* concerts including Phish’s return after a several year hiatus which was an *incredibly big deal to the people in the building when the lights finally dropped and they walked out on stage*…. but i have NEVER seen a crowd react in the Garden like it did when Shanny put that 3rd goal past Marty on that break away. Holy shit. That was like NOTHING I’ve ever seen. Unfortunately that was shown on VS and I don’t think MSG has the rights to air it. Nothing like seeing Brodeur get spooked at the Garden though…..MAAAAAAAAAAAARTY MAAAAAAAAAAAARTY.

  22. Seamus – He’s got a year on left on his contract and, if I’m not mistaken, will need to go through waivers if he gets sent down. Last year, they had him on some sort of conditioning stint.

Re: Nylander…I don’t think he thought Sather would sign BOTH big names on the ticket and figured he’d rather pay a half a mill to keep him with Jagr, rather than the $4 million more it would take to get Gomer or Drury. From a logic standpoint, it makes all the sense in the world. But if you happen to know Sather’s processes, then it’s a risk one just doesn’t take unless your bags are already packed.

BTW: Adam Hall…free agent STILL…any takers? I’m still impressed that Slats turned what was sizing up to be a pretty bad trade into Alex Bourret, a quality future NHLer. I’m still a bit miffed about losing Dominic Moore. Would have rather had him center fourth than Betts.

  23. I just registered for the league? How long does the draft last because you put it 2 1/2 hours b4 a home pre-season game which I planned on attending!? Any chance of moving up the time a little?

  24. The game the Rangers scored those 3 goals within 2 minutes was a HORRIBLE game for the Rangers. The Devils outplayed them all game except for those 2 minutes.

  25. ORR Knocks Em Out, Jagr Starts to Pout & Prucha Gets the Chances but Hollweg Does the Dances on

The whole 3rd period of that game was phenominal, also the game where Nylander left after the second period against the Pens because his wife was giving birth.

And Betts scored a Shortie and Shanny scored a PP goal assisted by jags…Then Shanny won it in the shootout.

    BTW

I dont know about all of you, but im looking foward to the games, Mike Crispino fills in for Sam Rosen. Him and Micheletti are funny together…hopefully when Sam retires from the booth, Crispy will take his spot.

Because Sam does a few NFL games, so he’s forced to miss some Ranger games. Also i really hope Bob Wishuzin (the WNBA guy) doesnt fill in for Sam this season. I hate him. He looks and sounds like a pig, its a shame he got the chance to call jagr’s 600th goal, cause i know how bad Sam would of wanted to call it.

Im changing my name to the Indianapolis Coltons

Can you explain to me the rules, I dont know anything about this. I dont wanna look like a Grim Gomez (moron).

  27. wow, I just came back from a trip to West Virginia and Pennsylvania, I see one poster totally lost it.

How do you people tolerate this sack of crap ORR?

“Great, now the fake me is pretending to be the real me calling out other people for being fake. Whoever you are, get a life.”

isn’t it obvious that it is ORR?

  28. That is obviously the fake Kaspar, especially cuz his name is spelled wrong and he is speaking in much better English.

Let’s talk about the fantasy league in the fantasy league; I don’t wanna clog up the blog with that stuff. Orr, it works by doing a draft of all the players in the league and you picking the ones that you think will best fill out your team based on the statistics. It’s head-to-head, so you match up against a different team each week and you want your players to win as many stat categories as possible by doing better than the other team’s players. You can also pick up people who are not on a team during the season and drop your own, make trades, and put players on IR who are on real life IR. I suppose this is your first time playing fantasy sports.

When has Wischusen ever announced a Rangers game on TV? And why? I can only remember him filling in on the radio. The problem is so many of the announcers do football – Rosen, Wischusen, K. Albert.

  29. ORR Knocks Em Out, Jagr Starts to Pout & Prucha Gets the Chances but Hollweg Does the Dances on

Yeah Wischusen did NYR against TBL, BUF, CAR, and a few others.

    Thanks for the info.

    GRIM GOMEZ

Go back to Pennsylvania. They can use a few extra morons down there.

  30. ORR, go post as someone else, you know you got no life and nothing better to do. You are a pathetic loser and a lowlife scumbag. The day you drop dead will be a victory for all humankind. I hope you choke on your happy meal, you fat pretzel.

I suggest people ignore this attention and Jack in the Box starved troll.

  31. hockeymanrangers on

Ok we are going to have to go to a SIGN IN with a password to be able to post stuff. To many _____holes posting as other people. Why is it that a few people ruin good things for everyone else??? It is a shame that there are so called Ranger Fans that are like this. Just use this as a Rnagers Chat room and quit the S__T out.
