Bear with me

I am indeed back from Tulsa and in likely need of a new wardrobe after sweating completely through every one of of my shirts.

For proof, “you can find a photo here (courtesy of Chris Lewis’ blog)”:http://chrislewisgolfblog.typepad.com/.shared/image.html?/photos/uncategorized/2007/08/12/presspeople_2.jpg

That’s me behind Tiger Woods in the blue shirt and blue hat (my prized “USA Hockey” hat, actually) desperately trying to manufacture some ventilation. It also looks like I’m trying to call a 20-second timeout in basketball.

Anyway, this may be of little interest to you Ranger fans who only want to know:

  • Whether Michael Peca is going to be a Ranger (it’s looking more and more likely).
  • Whether Stephen Valiquette will be starting the year as back-up goalie.
  • Whether it will be Chris Drury or Scott Gomez centering Jaromir Jagr.
  • Whether training camp will ever actually arrive or if this off-season will unmercifully drag on for eternity.

The only one I’m fairly certain of is the last one. Everything else hangs in the balance, and unfortunately I will continue to be immersed “in golf”:http://golf.lohudblogs.com for at least a little while longer.

That’s the bad news. The good news is you’ll have plenty of me soon enough, and it won’t be long before you’re entirely sick of me, anyway.

    1. Hillarious Sam. Well thanks for checking in. I’ll take a bad day of Hockey over a good day of golf anyway.

    2. FWIW, The Hockey News lists Montoya as projected backup. Not sure how respected that mag is, just grabbed it cause of the Drury/Gomez coverstory. It also projects Kaspar as an active….so make what you will of that.

I wish we got Kopitar for Montoya…We dont have any use for Monty with Hank on the team…That would be a dream.

      Is Peca a Ranger yet??

    4. Ugh no Peca PLEASE.. watching the Rangers’ youth play and succeed over the past two seasons made hockey fun for me again and bringing in Peca in addition to Drury/Gomez (neither of whom I have a problem with considering the vets we’ll be losing to retirement in the next 2 years) will be a real bummer, not to mention I’ll have to deal with all my friends making ‘lol Rangers buying a Cup’ comments.

    5. Why, do our freakin Rangers ALWAYS pull this crap!
NO PECA!!! I’d rather let the youth come up. They are more exciting to watch cause they play there hearts out. This really pisses me off.
Wait till opening night. Avery’s gonna get a standing O, Sather and Peca BOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!

    6. Arrgghh, just make a decision already!

Personally I think they should take Peca for a year, what can it hurt? If he gets hurt or tanks, one of the kids get his shot. And if not, well then we have a hard-nosed 3rd line center capable of putting the puck in the net.

My fear is that the Blueshirts are going for broke this year, and because of the high expectations and the pressure (which hasn’t been on the Blueshirts like this for 10+ years) they’ll choke. I’m not worried about the chemistry thing, I think Drury & Gomez will work out well, I just think something will go wrong come playoff time, as is bound to happen.

Most probably know this already but just incase ill fill you in….The Isles signed Josef Vasicek..

Its very boring in Ranger land today…I need some news…nooow

    8. Drew

I understand why you would boo Sather, but I will be one clapping for him. Don’t forget, he brought us 2 good quality centers in the offseason, but whether or not they do well remains to be seen.

    9. Islanders signed Vasicek.

“In other news, Darius Kasparaitis and Artem Anisimov are working out in Switzerland, preparing for the coming season with one of the Swiss League teams.”

      huh?

    10. Chilled

They are preparing for THEIR own respective seasons, either with the Pack ,or on the Rangers with the Swiss team who are preparing for THEIR own season in the Swiss League; not that they will be playing in Switzerland.

Essentially, they are using the Swiss as their pawns to get in game shape-

    11. With all of the “experienced” players that the Isles are signing, it looks like they might be good for one or two month-long periods during the season and play like crap the rest of the time.

vogs — Isn’t training camp four weeks away rather than two? Eh, at least I have football to keep me amused until then.

    12. If we can get a d-man instead of Peca, fine. But I would like to replace the gap in the PK unit we created by dishing out Orty and Cully. Why are so many oppose to having more options? After this season we will have so many UFA/RFAs the youth will be our only option.

    13. Sam, what other golf tournaments are there to cover? I imagine a couple more WGCs (if you do those; I don’t know if those are PGA or what) and then some of the new BS playoff system they have.

    14. hockeymanrangers on

I would like to see ALL of our young players play this year. We have no reason what so ever to add OLD vets like Peca. Let these young players do what they are suppose to be doing when they are are ready( and there are several of them more than ready) bring them up. I have said it before and I will say it again CUP OR NO CUP let the young ones play. That’s what they are there for. These young guys are not going to come to NY if they are not going to played. I don’t care how much Peca wants to come to NY, I would prefer we do not sign him. GO AWAY PECA.

    15. If I had confidence in them giving other players a shot at the roster spot that Peca is being given, I would be all for the signing. Unfortunately, I can’t see them waiving Peca or sending him to the AHL if he loses in preseason. Maybe by the middle of the season liek Kaspar last year. If it was like the NFL where you could cut anyone whenever, then okay, Peca could be cut before the season, but if he is signed, he will play on the Rangers whether it is deserved or not because they don’t want to waste their money with him being in the minors.

    16. Chilled

Because Tyutin is a lock this year to play with the Big Boys-

Kaspar and Anisimov are getting their Rocky Balboa groove on over there-

If Betts got traded i would love that…from what most Rangers say…Betts doesnt talk that much in the locker room…So they wouldnt even notice him gone…then the lines can be…

      Straka – Gomez – Jagr
      Shanahan – Drury – Avery
      Prucha – Peca – Callahan
      Hossa – Dubinsky / Ansimov – Orrwegg / Dawes

      Boom….Sounds sweet

Sam: “Hey guys, here is the picture that Tiger Woods took with me at the 2007 PGA Championship.”

      WTG Sam!

    21. Sam any word on the length of the Peca deal? This better not be more than 1 year. Should have kept cullen, that 3rd line would have been very tough to keep up with. well at least with peca youth will be served when he gets hurt mid season.

    22. hockeymanrangers on

Spiderpig makes a very good point that if Peca decides not to give it his all, and craps out on us, what the hell do we do we do with him. It will end up being just like a Kasper deal. Again lets bring up some one from Hartford, give them experiance in NHL and let them play. AGAIN, THAT IS WHAT THEY ARE THERE FOR. And I think it will bring us more speed, which wouldn’t hurt.

    23. Chilled: “because the trade also involved Betts, Mara and Jovanovski.”

Trade? Involved? First, there is NO such trade or as much as an Eklund-based rumor. Second, there never will be such a trade. Ever. Not even in your wildest fancy; again, I’ll wager whatever you want on this. And lastly, even if Gomez failed to score a point in the first 10 games, I wouldn’t do that trade, IT MAKES NO SENSE. Find one person in here that says it does and I’ll be willing to debate you until the Weinman comes home.

    24. Kaspar must be working hard; he hasn’t had time to post here recently. :-P
I’m getting excited to see him on the ice again. I hope he can hold up over at least 70 games, taking some off here and there as the defensive glut will allow the coaches to do.

    25. hockeymanrangers on

I just looked at Peca all time stats, this guy is old man trying to get a paycheck. He could never play as hard as Calahan or Dawes or who knows who might surprise us a camp. We would be foolish to waste our money on him. Can’t see it, but as usual it comes down to Sather trying to buy the cup.

    26. hockeymanrangers on

I was slightly disappointed when we got both Drury and Gomey. And was thinking about who will be left down in the AHL that should be up. Oh well what you going to do, it will be what it is. Ok, it will be what Sather says it is.

    27. ORR Kicks Fake Weinman..and shoves Hollweg up Yenners Yin Yang..Yo. on

Get rid of Malik so we can have Kaspar back…i want a reunion with Kaspar and Tyutin…

Tyuts + Kaspar x Orr = Hip Checks and Knockouts

    28. The anti-Peca people are just WRONG. If a one year deal he is a no brainer- every cup team needs a shut down guy like him. As gritty and competitive as any young player. And if he replaces Betts we can still add young players.

    29. ORR Kicks Fake Weinman..and shoves Hollweg up Yenners Yin Yang..Yo. on

Rozsival – Staal ( The “Its Aall good” line )
Tyutin – Kasparitus ( The Hip Line )
Mara – Girardi ( The “I cant come up with a good name for this pair” line )

Sounds nice….Then theres Pock..Sauer..Baranka etc. for call ups.

    30. EKLUND just reported that the Rangers might sign Peca. LMFAO

I wouldn’t mind Peca, he also won the Selke twice and the Rangers will need someone to be defensive. It may be that Peca starts the season and either Dubinsky or Anisimov finishes it.

We will have to wait and see……

    31. hockeymanrangers on

I copy/pasted this from Blue shirt Bulliten THIS IS WHAT THEY SAY EVERY YEAR IT’S A BUNCH OF CRAP.

Newsday. Mitch Beck believes, as he writes in his guest column at Hockey Rodent, that the Rangers will take a stab at Peca because they really have only this coming season to make a run for the Cup — given their salary cap position for this season and next, Mitch says, they will make a run with the vets this year and turn to the young players they have been developing the following year.

And it does look like it’s a done deal. OH Well so be it.

    32. I think this is a good move. Peca’s an excellent 3rd line center, plays good D and is good on faceoffs. Anyone worried about the kids not getting time to develop won’t have to worry, since Peca is bound to get injured and will probably play in only 60 games max.

    33. ORR Kicks Fake Weinman..and shoves Hollweg up Yenners Yin Yang..Yo. on

      Is Peca a Ranger yet……Officially??

If we do sign him does that mean we or forced to trade Mara or Malik??

    34. ORR Kicks Fake Weinman..and shoves Hollweg up Yenners Yin Yang..Yo. on

Lol…i bet eklund is refeshing TSN.ca/NHL every 10 seconds so he can be the first to see the report on Peca signing…This way he can take all the glory for it…The scum he is!!!

    35. I think signing Peca is a good move. The Rangers will have many seasons where the prospects will get their chance, and this will most likely be next year. I can see Dubinsky and Anisimov being used sparingly and getting the experience that they need to be successful in the NHL. I don’t know about anyone else, but I would trade 1 year of a few prospects getting playing time for a chance to see the Rangers win a cup. Not saying they will, but this could be as good a chance as any.

    36. I might just have to change my name to that, Orr. Tyutin + Kaspar x Orr = Pain maybe. But Malik ain’t moving. I still like the same name for the first pairing with Malik and Rozsival because it’s like kinda being “wink*wink” about it. Then you have Girardi with Pöck or Mara as the “Who are we?” line. As in Girardi was a bigger scorer in the AHL, and Pöck should be.

Someone posted this on BB; cover your eyes, anti-Pecans

    37. “Spiderpig makes a very good point that if Peca decides not to give it his all, and craps out on us, what the hell do we do we do with him. It will end up being just like a Kasper deal.”

I don’t think so. Kasparaitis was way overpaid and signed a 6 year deal.

“And lastly, even if Gomez failed to score a point in the first 10 games, I wouldn’t do that trade, IT MAKES NO SENSE.”

it only doesn’t make sense if you are a Devils fan. Or are in love with the shit-eating grin Gomez.

    38. Renney was pushing hard so he don’t have to God forbid play a rookie.

Well at least it is a one year deal. And hopefully spells the end of Betts.

Malik has the easiest job on the team–he has to help Rozsival stop 3rd and 4th liners who are trying to defend against Jagr.

I pray…they are gone…It would mean Orr gets Hollwegs spot and Dubi or Artie gets Betts’ spot….sounds nice…

TORONTO (CP) — The New York Rangers are close to signing free-agent centre Mike Peca, the Toronto Star reported Wednesday.

The two-time Selke Trophy winner has been in New York over the last two days undergoing testing and meeting with Rangers management.

Peca, 33, signed a US$2.5 million, one-year contract with Toronto last summer and was a boost to the Maple Leafs’ defensive play. However, he broke his leg in December and didn’t suit up again as he recovered from surgery.

    42. First off to the comment on this site about the Rangers folding under the pressure of playing for the Cup this year I have to say that is a load of crap. The team is now filled with guys with who have won either won the Cup or been to the Finals so they have all been through it and are used to it. Besides where is any outside pressure going to come from. It takes the Rangers making the second round before the Post or Daily News will throw them on the back page and even at the ESPN and WFAN won’t be talking about them. There is certainly no outside media pressure they are going to have to deal with in NY.

Secondly, concerning the kids coming up, people really sould go over and read Mitch Beck’s article on the Hockey Rodents web site (the link is at Blueshirt Bulletin). Beyond saying the Rangers are going for it this year he breaks down who is coming off the book next summer and where they will stand Cap wise following this season. It logically points to the fact that they will have no other alternative but to bring some of the kids up.

Finally, what the hell is with all the doom and gloom about the team signing Peca because they feel an established player is better for making a Cup run then a rookie. This is not like the past. In the past the farm system was barron because prospects were traded away. Right now the Rangers have an overflowing farm system (Staal, Sanginutti, Sauer, Anisiminov, Dubinsky, Dawes, Cheraponov, Pyatt, Dupont, Baranka, Montoya and Bourett) and the only prospect they have traded away in the last two years was Cliche in the Avery deal. Management has proven since the lock out they are not going to move kids for veterans. The team is caught in a transition period with guys like Jagr, Shanny and Straka around for only 1 or 2 more years. Do you really think they should sit back and not go for it and wait for them to retire? Would you be happy sitting back in 2009 saying, “you know what we could added a vet or two a few years ago and maybe competed for a Cup before Shanny and Jagr retired, but its ok that we didn’t because we got to see Dubinsky one year earlier.” News flash, you are going to see Dubi, this year, even if they sign Peca, he will be among the first called up with inevitable injuries happen.

This team has a strong core and they are building around it at the NHL level. And they are loaded with talent just below that can keep them competitive for years. They are trying to win a Stanley Cup now because they have the elite players to do it right now. Does everyone forget when the lock out ended how far off the idea of a Cup seemed. You aren’t going to see a lot of chances like this. We only have 4 Cups in 80 something years. People should be happy the Rangers are going for it.

“Orr is the punching bag of all the good enforcers. Even Wade Belak had his way with him. Even small middleweight like Janssen wnt toe to toe with him.Orr is a waste of roster spot. I rather do enforcing by hitting, not by gonn on goon action.”

      few things:

-Orr is known to stand there and just take shots in the face, *until the opportunity* is given to strike. I think that’s kinda dumb, yet cool if it works for ya.

      – Janssen = small middleweight? I don’t know his dimensions but I consider him one of the bigger threats in the NHL. He is a terrifying fucker.

-Agree about hitting more effective enforcement than fighting. A guy like Prucha knows he’s not going to be in any fights with any goons, but he will play much more cautious knowing there are bone crushers on the ice.

We need a Joel Lundqvist type player to make the NYR presensce felt.

    44. “Salty—that story doesn’t tell us anything that we don’t already know.”

I know, but the fact that these stories are crapping up for real all but solidify it.

Michael Peca = New York Ranger

I welcome him, but I have a bad feeling about this. Hopefully it works out.

    45. ORR's gonna kick fake Weinman and Shoves Hollweg up Yenner's Yin Yang Yo on

Salty what the heck are you doing…Dont encourage him to bring up that guy again…Lol

I think Orr has balls to do that…He takes shots to the face until he can do what he did to Godard, Boulton, and Fedoruk.

How is he the worst fighter in the NHL when he has 3 knockouts in 2 seasons…and im not talking about knock downs…Most enforcers are lucky to get 1…but im not gonna defend the guy…he’s an enforcer why should i??

      Anyway…with Peca…NYR has a nice mix…

We have PK’ers…We got Scorers..We got centermen..we got youth..We got the King…Sounds all but good to me…now lets pray Betts and Malik get traded to dump space..so we can bring up Dubi or Artie and have Staal and Kaspar take Racky and Harrys spot.

    46. I love how Sam has tried to play that “unbiased reporter” role at times, but it seeps through that the guy is such a *Ranger Fan*.

He probably wants this season to start worse than any of us, and it means WORK for him to do! But yes, this offseason is *excruciating* to say the least. It feels like eternity…

What is the date camp starts?

    47. Chilled: You can only like Gomez if your a Devils fan? Right dude. Like I said. Take your meds. He’s a Ranger and will be into the foreseeable future. My advice: start following Phoenix if you like Jovo and Reinprecht that much.

Kaspar video: he looks good. Probably about 10 years younger than I last remember seeing him and definitly 20 pounds lighter. He looks pretty jacked too. Jeeze, I hope he makes this team again. Also hope he gets his ‘A’ back…

    48. “– Janssen = small middleweight? I don’t know his dimensions but I consider him one of the bigger threats in the NHL. He is a terrifying fucker.”

Janssen is not a great fighter especially againt bigger players with bigger reach. He is only 5’11” maybe even less. He is very strong though and is a good hitter.

“I think Orr has balls to do that…He takes shots to the face until he can do what he did to Godard, Boulton, and Fedoruk”

those 3 aren’t the best fighters

“Orr is known to stand there and just take shots in the face”

I think that is more so for Barnaby and Langdon.

“How is he the worst fighter in the NHL when he has 3 knockouts in 2 seasons”

not the worst, but unless you can play hockey you are useless and why bother having a goon that is easily beat up by grandpa Brashear?

    49. Lou Lamoriello must be still laughing his ass off that we are overpaying 7.3 million for his worthless puke that can’t scare goals and thanks to his “interview friendly” grin is the most overrated player in NHL.

Brashear cant fight…which everyone knows…His style is hug you like a teddy bear then throw baby shots to the back of your head…which in my opinion should be illegal and should result in a penalty…Then he puts all of his fat on you until you drop..

Orr has got so much better since 05 – 06….What ever the staff is doing for him…its working…he lost weight so he can be a tad bit faster but still have enough weight to fight with the top fighters…i respect his commitment to the team…and he’s great in the locker room from what i hear…and hey…Jagr likes him…and thats saying a whole hell of alot…Lol Jags likes hanging with the bad boys and the czechs…

The only thing scary about Janssen is he looks retarded and might be a danger to our boys in blue…what i mean is he gets so excited to be on the ice he forgets theres refs around and he delivers high hits…just ask Malik….and the only reason Janssen looks tough is cause he man handled Hollweg…lol who ever doesnt man handle Hollweg shouldnt be fighting…

I think Prucha can beat the guy in a fight…He’s a cool guy but he’s a terrible fighter…and he better hurt someone in 07 – 08

Hollweg is a hitter not a fighter. His reach is too short.

    53. “Its fuggin numbers…who gives a sh*t”

it is just an example of what an asshole Gomez is. I hate and hated him more than anybody else in NHL and I want him off my team. He is not going to win me over with his grins and his 50 assists.

to those of you who read mitch beck’s article and think or agree that the rangers will insert 5,6,7 rookies into the lineup in 08-09,don’t delude your self,it WILL NEVER happen!!.there are plenty of other free agents on the market nect year that we will sign to replace peca and shanny and others.and we should not do so because that is a recipe for disaster both as a lost season and for the development of all those young players beck is talking about.the best way to develop young players and to create a long term competative team is by constantly infusing 1 or 2 kids into the lineup and play them with vets who can help guide them past mistakes that they will be certain to make every now and then.that’s what succesfull team like the devils, redwings, canes, ducks and sabers do every year.what’s
disappointing about beck is that he seems to be more interested in towing the rangers party line instead of being objective and calling a spade a spade.he was saying how callahan and girardi were not ready to play in the nhl as recent as a week a or so before they were called up.and in the case of callahan,it was more like 3 days before.i watched as many games as beck probobly did last year of the wolfpack, and for the life of me can’t understand his consatant line that the kids are not ready to play inspite of eveidence to the contrary.i respect BB and love there coverage of young players and dubi’s and jess rubinstein’s coverage, but am consatantly frustrated every time i read anything beck wrights.

I think Prucha should get a shot with Drury and Shanny this season…Prucha has never really had a big time center to helo him out and he still has about 50 + goals…

I mean look at his centers for the last two seasons…For the majority of 05 – 06 and 06 – 07 he had Rucchin…and Cullen who he didnt have to much chemistry with…

Then again Prucha and Straka always had chemistry so i wouldnt mind seeing

Shanahan – Drury – Callahan (Since they had chemistry at the end of the season and the playoffs…and it would be nice for Cally to play with 2 vets to help him out…

      and

Straka – Peca – Prucha (The Playstation Portable Line)

We should even try Avery on the first line with Jagr and Gomez…This way Jags gets his protection…but he’s also playing with a guy who has a rocket of a shot and does make sweet passes…

So these are my lines in 07 – 08..that i’d love to see

      Avery – Gomez – Jagr
      Shanahan – Drury – Callahan
      Straka – Peca – Prucha
      Hossa – Betts – Orrwegg / Dawes

      Tyutin – Kaspar / Malik
      Girardi – Mara
      Rozsival – Staal / Pock

      Lundqvist
      Lalime

Before you say anything…about Lalime…I dont care…I was impressed during his game against NYR last season…that doesnt mean hes great…but as a backup..he might be worth it…but he isnt worth a few good players.

      I want october now…

      BTW

      Is Peca a Ranger yet??

    66. ORR Kicks Fake Weinman..and shoves Hollweg up Metrosexual Hyena's Yin Yang..Yo. on

Someone posted here asking when Camp starts…

Just incase that person still wanted to know….NHL.com says September 14th

    67. czech you’re driving the kid bus too fast. Relax, Schoenfeld is in a position of power to push them for you. There are plenty of young guys on the roster now, and more will be added over the next two seasons.

    68. ORR Kicks Fake Weinman..and shoves Hollweg up Metrosexual Hyena's Yin Yang..Yo. on

Please…Pleeeeease someone tell me…If we sign Peca does that mean we are forced to dump some salary…Like Malik, Mara (who id like to keep, and possibly Betts???

    69. When rookies come to camp and see their odds of making the team they will start wearing bracelets with letters “WWRLD” which stands for What would Roman Lyashenko do?

    70. ORR Kicks Fake Weinman..and shoves Hollweg up Metrosexual Hyena's Yin Yang..Yo. on

Thats a nice story….Now if we can only give Metro less posting time….

    71. Sam, this place has gone mental. Making fun of a troubled young man who committed suicide. This place has become the ESPN message boards, part 2.

    72. All I can say is thank God that Mitch Beck is not Rangers’ GM.

We’d have a roster made up of nothing but washed-up veterans and UFAs, and the kids in Hartford would have no chance of ever making the team. The only use Mitch would have for the kids would be in trades, to bring more over the hill mercenaries to NY.

Weekes would still be here backing up Ed Belfour (obtained in a trade for Lundqvist and picks). Forsberg would be our big UFA acquisition. Tkachuk would be here (obtained in a trade for Prucha, Callahan and Girardi).

And he has the nerve to call anyone who wants the kids to get a chance to play “whiners”. Au contraire, Mitch is the whiner who refuses to see that he’s a tool.

    73. It’s funny how you didn’t profess your hate for Gomez until he became the second-highest-paid Ranger.

And don’t forget Prucha had Betts as his center for several games, or whoever it was on the fourth line, maybe Ward. When Callahan played with Shanahan, who played left wing? From what I know, Shanny was a LW for the longest time and became a RW here for some reason after he didn’t work out with Jagr. It was probably Shanny at LW then. And they played with Avery together, right? But Avery on the first line? No way. While your at it, let’s put Orr there. So to adjust my lines:

      Hossa – Gomez – Jagr
      Shanahan – Drury – Callahan
      Straka – Avery – Prucha
      Dawes – Betts – Orrwegg

Hopefully with the fourth line playing enough so that other players can replace Orrwegg on half of the shifts.

      Salty – who’s JL?

    74. I’m not quite sure I understand why Buffalo doesn’t sign Peca to be their captain. I know they have two or three young guys along with Gaustad and Connolly that can play up the center, but their roster isn’t already full like ours. I don’t think they have an extra forward, even. At least it’s good for me to hear that we are Peca’s third choice.

      Anti-Pecans unite!

    75. Spiderpig,

Hossa w/ Jags and Gomer? He’s a good player but first line, that’s a bit much! And why is Dawes in there??

    76. “Salty – who’s JL?”

If you really need to ask, you should probably just turn in your blueshirt. JL *could very well be* be among the greatest Rangers to ever lace up in MSG. He can shoot, pass, scores a hat trick almost everynight, and he hits harder than anyone in the league. It is only a matter of time before every member of the Garden Faithful ask themselves in their darkest hour:

      WW *JL* D?

(click my blue name if you STILL HAVE NOT HEARD THE GOOD WORD OF OUR SAVIOR….It is *never* too late)

    77. LMAO Salty. I just needed to scroll over the link to figure it out. You’ve taken it to a whole new level.

CML – I didn’t think Hossa should be on the first line originally, but I have been convinced by others here that he woul be most useful there, at least to try at the beginning of the season to recapture the magic that he had for several games before he got injured. He has size and is willing to dig for the puck, which Jagr generally doesn’t do. Either him or Prucha up top would be nice. I don’t think Straka should be on the first line. He would do well being the defensive presence on the third line.

    78. Forgot one thing, Dawes is there because he is listed on the roster at NYR.com, so they’re probably thinking he will be on the team. Gotta have someone good on that fourth line because you can’t go with Hollweg – Betts – Orr every night.

    79. I don’t think Straka should be on the first line. He would do well being the defensive presence on the third line.

      —-
Agreed. Here’s a guy you don’t want to go burning out too early either. Not that I question what Marty’s got left in the tank, but not that the guy is a ripe 25 years old either.

    80. “Making fun of a troubled young man who committed suicide. This place has become the ESPN message boards, part 2.”

idiot, how did I make fun of Lyashenko? I am reflecting on what effect the Rangers management has on young players.

    81. ORR Kicks the living Yin Yang out of Aaron Boogaard on

Why cant NYR just play Dubi or Artie on the 4th line…on the wing…

Oh jeez…I hope NYR trades Betts…I want Dubi or Artie

    82. ORR Kicks the living Yin Yang out of Aaron Boogaard on

The Devils re signed Paul Martin…

Oh dang…Eklund had me convinced he was part of a “Block Buster Trade” this week.

    83. ORR Does the Kicks and Kaspar Gets the Chicks on

Does anyone know where i can find Arties career stats??

    84. to summarize my thoughts:

      1. Gomez is overrated and overpriced and needs to be traded (Jovanovski makes the most sense)

      2. Dawes is too small and needs to be traded

      3. Betts needs to be traded because he sucks

      4. Hossa needs to be traded after 10-15 games, unless he plays great and produces

      5. Orr is useless as are all pure goons

      6. Jessiman needs to be traded to Ducks, because we will never play him and he just takes a spot away from someone.

      7. At least an attemp has to be made at acquiring Joel Lundqvist

      8. Pock, Mara and Malik should be traded

      9. Montoya needs to be the backup

      10. Dubinsky, Moore, Staal, Baranka and Liffiton need to make the team

      11. Mara, Betts, and Gomez for Jovanovski, Reinprecht and Lisin makes a lot of sense for both teams

      12. Renney is a horrible coach and needs to be replaced with someone who got a clue

      13. Kasparaitis should be on the team if he is in good shape and plays well in the camp

      14. Strudwick and Hutchinson need to be sent down to Hartford and forgotten there.

      15. Peca should be signed for 1 season.

      16. trade away all the un-needed prospects for 7th round picks (Immonen, Graham, etc.)

      17. sign Potter to NHL contract

      18. Shanahan should play LW, preferably with Jagr, he is not a RW and mostly scores from LW.

    85. 13 and 19 – yes. 18 – half-yes (don’t play with Jagr). 4 – Hossa won’t have value if he doesn’t play well, but maybe. Others – various reasons why no

I guess since you like Peca, it means he won’t be signing here. Unfortunately, the same logic applying to Kaspar would be sad.

    86. ORR Does the Kicks and Kaspar Gets the Chicks and Joel Lundqvist isnt worth Two 3rd Round Picks on

      21. Is Peca a Ranger Yet??

      22. Is Montoya gone Yet??

      23. Is my Cambells Chicken Soup ready Yet??

    87. 24. Moron users that keep changing their names every fifth minute, pine over Jovanoski and Joel Lundqvist need to be unplugged from the Internet.
