Buffalo wins 5-4.
2:34: Rangers do, in fact, score. It’s Nylander…so again they have a chance.
5:10: The Rangers had their chances and all the momentum, but it looks like they will fall here. Hecht just scored again on a deflection to give Buffalo a two-goal lead on a Briere shot.
Rangers just drew a penalty. They have to score here to have a chance.
3rd period, 14:07: Wow, the Rangers were just a little forehand lift from Matt Cullen from tying the score. Who knew?
As you probably know, Jagr scored before off a rebound on a PPG. And all of a sudden the Garden has some life.
5:40: Jagr is back.
7:50: Not only did Chris Drury just score on a PPG, but Jagr just went to the locker room.
The wheels have certainly fallen off.
12:19: Jochen Hecht just scored to give Buffalo the lead. The crowd is pretty dead. It’s just chance after chance for the Sabres.
14:58: Crazy four-minute stretch.
I will say, I love Mara’s shot from the point. I know he’s not the best defensive defenseman, but he has a shot like a Mariano Rivera cutter. Just really, really heavy on the glove.
The Rangers are very fortunate to be in a tie game right now, so they still must address what they can do to firm up their play.
17:07: Dmitri Kalinin just scored on a one-timer over Lundqvist’s shoulder on his glove side. A well-placed shot by Kalinin to be sure, but it wasn’t the best goal allowed for Lundqvist. You grow so accustomed to a guy stopping every shot, that’s it’s a surprise when he allows on like that.
Uh oh. As I write the above passage…a strange rebound into the corner leads to a pass in front byAdam Mair and a goal by Jason Pominville.
Quite honestly, the Rangers look very slow right now and even more sluggish. This is not a good effort so far.
Not much to add from first period stats. The ice time has largely gone to the first two lines, with the Cullen line having just three minutes.
The hits are fairly even – 10-9 – and the shots are 11-8 Buffalo.
50.3: Well, looks like we were wrong as the Rangers take the early lead.
Many of you are driven mad by Nylander’s patience, but it certainly worked there as he outwaited Ryan Miller.
4:34: Not much has changed. At this rate, it’s not IF Buffalo will score, but WHEN.
10:00: So the Rangers have killed two penalties, but it is not a good sign that they have been forced to.
It’s obviously too early to make a determination on Dawes. I will say, however, that Straka has played very well, as, of course, has Lundqvist.
The Rangers need to pick it up or they will fall behind.
Pregame: Dawes in for Isbister.
So, what do we think? Panic move?
I’ll tell you right now, I’m very skeptical. They were 7.7 seconds away from a 3-2 series lead, and now you change? We’ll see.
I’ll have more once the game starts.
