In-game, Game 6: Buffalo wins, takes series 4-2

178

*Buffalo wins 5-4.*

***

*2:34:* Rangers do, in fact, score. It’s Nylander…so again they have a chance.

***

*5:10:* The Rangers had their chances and all the momentum, but it looks like they will fall here. Hecht just scored again on a deflection to give Buffalo a two-goal lead on a Briere shot.

Rangers just drew a penalty. They have to score here to have a chance.

***

*3rd period, 14:07:* Wow, the Rangers were just a little forehand lift from Matt Cullen from tying the score. Who knew?

As you probably know, Jagr scored before off a rebound on a PPG. And all of a sudden the Garden has some life.

***

*5:40:* Jagr is back.

***

*7:50:* Not only did Chris Drury just score on a PPG, but Jagr just went to the locker room.

The wheels have certainly fallen off.

*12:19:* Jochen Hecht just scored to give Buffalo the lead. The crowd is pretty dead. It’s just chance after chance for the Sabres.

*14:58:* Crazy four-minute stretch.

I will say, I love Mara’s shot from the point. I know he’s not the best defensive defenseman, but he has a shot like a Mariano Rivera cutter. Just really, really heavy on the glove.

The Rangers are very fortunate to be in a tie game right now, so they still must address what they can do to firm up their play.

*17:07:* Dmitri Kalinin just scored on a one-timer over Lundqvist’s shoulder on his glove side. A well-placed shot by Kalinin to be sure, but it wasn’t the best goal allowed for Lundqvist. You grow so accustomed to a guy stopping every shot, that’s it’s a surprise when he allows on like that.

Uh oh. As I write the above passage…a strange rebound into the corner leads to a pass in front byAdam Mair and a goal by Jason Pominville.

Quite honestly, the Rangers look very slow right now and even more sluggish. This is not a good effort so far.

***

Not much to add from first period stats. The ice time has largely gone to the first two lines, with the Cullen line having just three minutes.

The hits are fairly even – 10-9 – and the shots are 11-8 Buffalo.

More later.

***

*50.3:* Well, looks like we were wrong as the Rangers take the early lead.

Many of you are driven mad by Nylander’s patience, but it certainly worked there as he outwaited Ryan Miller.

***

*4:34:* Not much has changed. At this rate, it’s not IF Buffalo will score, but WHEN.

***

*10:00:* So the Rangers have killed two penalties, but it is not a good sign that they have been forced to.

It’s obviously too early to make a determination on Dawes. I will say, however, that Straka has played very well, as, of course, has Lundqvist.

The Rangers need to pick it up or they will fall behind.

***

*Pregame:* Dawes in for Isbister.

So, what do we think? Panic move?

I’ll tell you right now, I’m very skeptical. They were 7.7 seconds away from a 3-2 series lead, and now you change? We’ll see.

I’ll have more once the game starts.

Nigel deserves a shot. He has been playing amazing in Hartford can not wait to see him today!

  2. I’m skeptical, too. I think Hossa and Isbister were important parts of that line’s control in the offensive zone. I’m afraid we’ll be back to the twirling offense again…

But I pray I’m dead wrong.

    Let’s Go Rangers!

  3. sam why dont you wait and tell us after we already find out during the broadcast?? geez

  4. Yenner Mot on

Shanahan keeps hurting the team, Jagr keeps shooting from terrible angle like an idiot.

  5. That wasn’t Shanny’s fault…oh wait, i forgot who made the post. You wanna get on someone, get on Mara for pinching.

Straka and Avery look pretty good together on the PK

  6. Doodie Machetto on

Josh, yeah, 7.7 seconds away, but they would’ve stolen that game had they won it. They were TERRIBLE, carrying the play for MAYBE five minutes in the game.

  7. Doodie Machetto on

Yenner, again, you display your lack of hockey knowledge. This isn’t EA sports; 90% of goals aren’t scored off of perfect onetimers. You score goals by throwing the puck to the net when there is a lot of traffic and you hope for one of three things:

    1) the goalie doesn’t see it
    2) a deflection
    3) a rebound

Clearly, hockey video games are all you know.

  8. Henrik is saving them so far.

if it’s a one goal lead in the last minute, Renney will have dawes Nylander and jagr on the ice to blow another one.

  9. Yenner Mot on

If Jagr wanted rebound he would have slapped the puck, he was hoping it would go in with his weak wrister from far away. He plays the probability theory–the more you shoot the more likely something goes in.

  10. one big weakness of Buffalo is their poor shooting from the point. they can barely get a shot thru to the net, and when they do it is weak. they don’t have any point blasters

  11. Doodie Machetto on

“If Jagr wanted rebound he would have slapped the puck, he was hoping it would go in with his weak wrister from far away. ”

Again, displaying a lack of knowledge. It’s not about how hard you shoot it but where. Rip a slapshot that hits the goalie in the chest, the puck drops down dead. You want a big juicy rebound? you put it into his pads. Placement over power, every time.

  12. Doodie Machetto on

I didn’t say anything of the sort. Just that you happen to know very little, even the basics. It’s clear that you’ve never played hockey beyond a video game or in the street with your friends when you were little. VERY clear.

  13. Yenner Mot on

stupid little doodie, you would be lucky if you know 1% of what I know.

  14. yeah, jd, good look by Mara, great calm by nylander. thank goodness, cause the Blueshirts didn’t look too hot that period.

  15. Doodie Machetto on

Yenner, I’ve got a quote for you:

“Better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to speak out and remove all doubt.”

    -Abe Lincoln.

  16. Doodie Machetto on

Chris, I hear ya. They looked terrible. Like they did for 90% of game 5.

  17. if a winger has an off game or 2, he goes from the first line down to the 4th under Renney, but if a Dman totally blows a game like Malik did in game 2, renney gives him an “A”, in more ways than one, an A grade and an assistant captain patch

  18. Doodie Machetto on

Well, Dawes. it was nice seeing you in NY for a game. Way to give Renney an excuse to send you packing.

Of course, Malik would be immune to that.

  19. Doodie Machetto on

That goal is no one’s fault. Unfortunate deflection on a block attempt. If Dawes didn’t deflect it, Henrik had it covered the whole way.

  20. Yenner Mot on

“Yenner, I’ve got a quote for you:

“Better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to speak out and remove all doubt.

    -Abe Lincoln.”

not if you know the people you are speaking to are even bigger fools

  21. Yenner Mot on

“That goal is no one’s fault. Unfortunate deflection on a block attempt. If Dawes didn’t deflect it, Henrik had it covered the whole way.”

again you prove your cluelessness the deflection happened far away Lundqvist didn’t even look like he lost sight of the puck. From that distance he should have had it easily.

  22. Doodie Machetto on

That’s 2 for Mara in the playoffs. That’s two more than both Wards combined.

  23. you’re wrong, mot. that is NOT the goalie’s fault when it is ramped up like that on a high speed deflection.

  24. Doodie Machetto on

“remember those awesome glovesaves by Richter and Blackburn?”

Remember those awesome Vezina nominations, low GAAs, high save percentages, and back to back 30 win seasons they both had?

    Neither do I.

  25. Yenner Mot on

they probably would if they had a better team in front of them and with the shootouts

  26. Doodie Machetto on

    Pack it up boys.

Look at the bright side, we got to see a Nylander’s worth of games this season instead of a Straka’s amount.

  27. Yenner Mot on

didn’t I say Sabres would destroy us? oops I guess I know something.

  28. i hate to say it but we might need a goalie change right now we are completly dead

  29. Unfortunately, this looks like a return to ’06 Rangers. Too bad. But maybe we can still rally.

    Let’s go Rangers!

  30. Yenner Mot on

“i hate to say it but we might need a goalie change right now we are completly dead”

yeah would be nice to see what Montoya could do, oops he is not dressed, instead we have Valiquette is not really a goalie, just a big dude in net.

  31. Doodie Machetto on

Yenner, I wouldn’t call 6 games, including 4 that were decided by one goal (two of which in OT, one of those in double OT) being crushed.

Atlanta was crushed. New Jersey was crushed. The Rangers are just losing.

  32. onecupin67years on

TYPICAL,HISTORICAL ,NYRANGER LOSERS,No leadership,,NO ONE STEPPED UP ,sure the sabres got the breaks it seems off deflections ,but in order to beat miller you have to work him side to side,Not dead-on.So ,while it seems “OH THEY FAR”and “NO ONE EXPECTED THEM TO GET THIS FAR “to al of you who agree with that crap is your a loser and Thats a LOSING ATTITUDE.THEY suck and were lucky to win in-94.They are pitiful ,too bad george Steinbrenner didn’t own them.Freakin losers !

  33. Doodie Machetto on

onecup, I like how you were nowhere to be found the last month and a half of the season, as well as for the first half of the playoffs. Now that they are on their way out, you poke your head out to point out that they aren’t good.

Did anyone really think they were going to win the cup this season anyway? I don’t know why anyone is so surprised that they are losing.

  34. Marek Malik just said that he will not change his game just because NY fans boo him.

    What an arogant moron!!

You are boo’d for CONSTANTLY putting the puck in front of the net and GIVE A WAYS to the other team.

    you won’t change your ways??

You and Renney are both stubborn, stiff necked idiots who need a new home next year.

malik does not even play at NHL level. Forget his size.

We MUST find someone who will take this albatross salarry from us–we’ll even throw in Renney for free.

    Height of prideful arrogance!
If 18,200 people think that I am wrong, I MUST reconsider my stance.

what a foolish thing to utter on NBC.

  35. Yenner Mot on

“Yenner, I wouldn’t call 6 games, including 4 that were decided by one goal (two of which in OT, one of those in double OT) being crushed.

Atlanta was crushed. New Jersey was crushed. The Rangers are just losing.”

I was talking about Today’s game only, with their backs against the wall, Rangers stunk up the MSG with total lack of intensity and effort.

  36. nice to hear dumb shit malik saying he won’t change a thing in his game for the fans, especially the blunders and giveaways.

  37. we have, arguably, the BEST goaltender in the NHL and one of the laziest defenses. DO NOT throw stats at me. Malik is off the ice for power play goals. Rosi played decent the 2nd part of the season. Rachunek was horrid. Malik= junior hockey at best. Kasper started horrifically and was the scapegoat.

    Tytutin good season
Girardi, wasted most of the year

We put in Dawes….he barely has NHL experience, no less playoff…..

NOTE TO RENNEY: Maybe Dawes and other kids could have made a difference if YOU PLAYED them during the year!

what a complete end to end idiot. Renney makes Sean Penn look bright.

    still tarded.

  38. Doodie Machetto on

Seamus, I would take any NHL player’s, coach’s, or GM’s opinion over about 18,000 people in the garden, any day. If they are so much smarter, or more knowledgable, then why aren’t they on the bench or in the front office? because they don’t.

Now, I say 18,000 because I figure about 200 of them are former players, or current members of other front offices. And I guarantee you not a single one would boo.

  39. Doodie Machetto on

Chris, that looked to me to be a lack of communication. I think he thought he had it and so he wanted to hold it, but no one told him that he didn’t.

  40. blowing a game they had won because of a coach’s stupid moves in the last minute turned this series around.

  41. Yenner Mot on

“NOTE TO RENNEY: Maybe Dawes and other kids could have made a difference if YOU PLAYED them during the year!”

    excellent point

“we have, arguably, the BEST goaltender in the NHL”

he would be the best if he had Blackburn’s glovehand and mental toughness. You can see his lack of mental toughness in his body language after almost every goal against.

  42. Doodie Machetto on

Guys, seriously, did any of you think that they could win the cup? I’m not distraught about this because in December I didn’t even think they would make the playoffs.

They aren’t that good. Next year they will be a little better than this year, while every other Playoff team in the East besides the Pens will be worse.

  43. Yenner Mot on

Why would Jagr want to advance further, why would he want to play and sacrifice his body while getting no paychecks when he can be enjoying himself on the beach somewhere.

  44. Yenner Mot on

playoffs are for young guys that want to prove themselves and for vets that haven’t gotten the Cup yet, this team is lead by 2 schmucks that already got their Cups, their glory and their money.

  45. I hope we come back and win this game so losers like Yenner and onecupin67years can shut their pie holes. A$$holes.

    LETS GO RANGERS!

  46. Doodie Machetto on

The first two weren’t his fault, and while he should’ve stopped the last two, you can’t avoid blaming the team for allowing the 3 on 2 and for being on the PK.

Lundqvist is absolutely not the reason they are behind.

9 giveaways today. That should help tell the story of how rotten the team has played compared to what they have done in the past.

  47. Yenner Mot on

    “LETS GO __________!”

only morons write or say things like this. Brainless stupid cheeleaders, bunch of sheep.

  48. I think you guys forgot that in hockey they play 3, yes count them 1,2,3 periods. Lots of Hockey left guys, if they come back I dont want to hear from any of you guys.

  49. Doodie Machetto on

45-0 Go NYR. Buffalo is 45-0 this season (including playoffs) when leading by two after two. Not to mention the Rangers have been terrible today.

  50. Jagr, Nylander and Straka have to come up for us on this play. We need a goal…..We can so put it past Miller…These guys can be had but we need a goal soon….

  51. Doodie Machetto on

Yenner, watch a replay of the first goal, the shot was going short side until it hit Dawes’ skate and then went far, Lundqvist was playing the short side shot, so he was no where near the far post.

Second goal was the defense’s fault for leaving Pominwille WIDE open, AND it defelcted off of Rachunek. No blame on Lundy there either.

Seriously Yenner, this is the last time I will replay to anything you have to say. You seriously have shown me that you know too little about hockey to communicate at an intelligent level. My advice to you, go get some equipment, join a league, play some games, and understand how the game actually works.

  52. Yenner Mot on

Dawes really might be too short for NHL, if he was a few inches taller and arms longer he would have been a great player.

  53. Doodie Machetto on

My advice to you, go get some equipment, join a league, play some games, and understand how the game actually works.

  54. Hey, Mot, I don’t even post here much and I’m sick of your inanities. Three of the Sabres goals were deflected up over HL by his own people. Why do you have to prove over and over and over again, post by post that you are an attention-seeking pathetic little boy?

Anyway, Tom Renney can’t get Jagr away from Timander and Lydman, EVEN WITH THE LAST CHANGE. So let’s sign this amateur to a contract extension. Unbelievable, that in a sports town like N.Y., a major team is stuck with a pretender like Renney.

  55. Yenner Mot on

“Yenner, watch a replay of the first goal, the shot was going short side until it hit Dawes’ skate and then went far, Lundqvist was playing the short side shot, so he was no where near the far post.

watch it again yourself, all 4 goals were soft and he could have and should have stopped all of them

  56. Doodie Machetto on

YEAH BABY. to all of the peopel that yell shoot like idiots, that’s what happens when you wait for an open lane, it actually gets through to the goal so that the traffic you create in front can do something.

  57. Doodie Machetto on

I scored a goal in Cullen’s situation in my beer league like a week ago. I did the same move and went five hole and scored. It looked like from the goal cam replay that Cullen would have scored had he done the same.

  58. Doodie Machetto on

Although, to be entirely fair, I was trying to do what Cullen actually did and just screwed up and got lucky.

  59. Yenner Mot on

another bad angle shot. Why aren’t they shooting low to get rebounds?

  60. Doodie Machetto on

Good season guys. Sam, what happens to this space during the summer?

  61. Yenner Mot on

“Good season guys. Sam, what happens to this space during the summer?”

what you already give up, they can still win this, what kind of fan are you? you no longer believe?

  62. Yenner Mot on

the look on Shanahan’s face said it all “damn I will have to pretend to play hard for few more minutes”

  63. onecupin67years on

Doodie get your head out of your arse.just because I dont wave a look at me flag as you do ,doesn’t mean i can’tspeak my mind.My point if you had brains was that why do teams like carolins, tampa bay and the other one hit wonders who win the cup ,win ?While the rangers have consistently suck And they always get the free ride from the ignorant fans. Why cant this be the rangers year? or do they have to progress as you suggest?

  64. Yenner Mot on

avery you dumbass you slap the puck low to get a rebound, not wrist it in the chest

  65. Doodie Machetto on

    Tampa Bay WAS a progression.

Carolina got lucky; it was a fluke. As proof, see this season where they couldn’t make the playoffs even though they played in the worst division in the NHL.

  66. Yenner Mot on

“Carolina got lucky; it was a fluke. As proof, see this season where they couldn’t make the playoffs even though they played in the worst division in the NHL.”

    you are clueless

Rangers would be so much better if they let defensemen unload slappers from the point.

  67. Thanks a lot for the blog, Sam. You too, Josh.

    We’ll get ’em next year.

  68. you don’t win 16 playoff games in a 2 month grueling physical marathon by a fluke. that is pure bs. Carolina beat the devils and Sabres on the way to the cup.

  69. TIRF (Typical Idiot Rangers Fan) on

It hurts doesn’t it? Your hopes dashed, your dreams down the toilet. And your fate is sitting right besides you.

  70. Doodie Machetto on

Yeah, teams can’t get on a hot streak for two months. sure.

How did the Rangers make the playoffs again, three and a half month hot streak? No fluke for Carolina or Edmonton though, not at all.

Sam, Josh, thanks for the great work you’ve done this year.

    Next year is our year.

  71. it just shows once again that 4-3, and 5-4 and 6-5 games are much more exciting than the 2-1 dump and chase chess matches

  72. Yenner Mot on

“It hurts doesn’t it? Your hopes dashed, your dreams down the toilet. And your fate is sitting right besides you.”

no idiot, my dreams and hopes are nowhere near NHL. Watch your dreams and hopes being crushed as the Ducks destroy your team.

  73. Thanks for the work SAM see you next yeat. Nothing to be ashamed of fans, nothing. WE’LL BE BACK!!!!

    LETS GO RANGERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

TIRF, Get a life man, seriously your a loser.

  74. Doodie Machetto on

I think Ottawa/Buffalo is going to be a GREAT series. I pick Ottawa. I picked them at the start of the playoffs to win the east, and I stick by it.

  75. Jagr played great today.

the Callahan penalty(was not a penalty) was the big mistake by the refs….

it is a game of inches…

    great season…

  76. TIRF (Typical Idiot Rangers Fan) on

I agree this was a hard loss, but it was for the better. The farther we would have gone, the more the eventual loss would have hurt. This was inevitable anyways. No way we win game 7 in Bflo.

  77. Thanks Sam and Josh….

Proud to say I’m a Ranger Fan…Haven’t had too many occasions to say that over the last several years…….

  78. onecupin67years on

slappers from the point ?”Oh on their back hand?,you can count the times on one hand where the d get off a one timer.

Avery did his magic act and disappeared after Yapping .
Rangers inability to make 2 consecutive passes effed them up in the first 2 periods.
And how many times did we have to hear after a Loss “we played our worst game “from the coach? and ,staff and players? then todays game was a downward trend.-fart -crap-shit.
And Mr.Doodie thanks for reading my blog ,atleast I know of another fan .
And what was TR trying to prove with the kid from hartford ?
terrible decision,Buy maybe the Ahl is on par with Cup hockey? Tom knows for sure.
and cullen and prucha suck ,plain and simple suck.prucha reminds me of bambi always splaying his feet and falling on the ice ,simply awful.

  79. TIRF (Typical Idiot Rangers Fan) on

Doodie, keep on picking the chokers to win. See where that gets you.

  80. Yenner Mot on

“it is a game of inches…”

yeah we were inches away from firing Renney and hiring a good coach

  81. Well, I guess we have Roger Clemens to look forward to. This was a productive year for the Rangers and we got a round deeper into the playoffs. We are just missing a few key pieces like another center and a shutdown defensemen. This team will undoubtedly go deeper into the playoffs next year. Had they not gotten off to such a horrendous start they could have made it to at least the ECF. But this was a great year and I cant wait until October

  82. I am real proud to be a ranger fan today…..Their defense finally fell apart yet they still battled.

Can’t wait for next season already…..
    NICE JOB THIS YEAR SAM!

  83. Yenner Mot on

I hope Ottawa does what Rangers failed to do, which is smash Sabres with some serious relentless hitting. Chriss Neal better destroy those pukes Drury, Briere, etc.

  84. I am so proud of this team. And to all your real Rangers fans out there, Sam, and Josh, thanks for making this one great season!

  85. onecupin67years on

SAM A LA -See you at WSA ?
    Josh, TOP Shelf job .
And to all my fellow Die hard ranger fans born after 1985 have a happy and to all you OLD TIMERS -SAME OLD STORY!

  86. Well, after 7 long months, it’s over. Countless hours spent following this team and I can honestly say it only can go up from here. Another year older for the younger guys and Avery a full-time presence. I can not wait for next year.

Don’t know what all the negative Nancies on this board will do with their time but to the rest of you, have a great summer!

  87. Yenner Mot on

so what was the point of signing useless old fart Shanahan? All it did is take away a spot and a year of NHL development from a young guy.

  88. Theres nothing to be disappointed with here, no one expected the Rangers to get this far, no one expected them to give it to the Sabres the way they did…Unbelieveable season, cant wait until next year. Im proud to be a Ranger fan after the team plays with great emotion.

Thanks for everything Sam and Josh, you guys did a great job all season long. This was my first season here and i checked the blog three times a day for your insight. Thanks again!

  89. Doodie Machetto on

Next season is for NY. Every playoff team this season in the east is going to get worse with the exception of NYR and PIT.

Buffalo: losing either Drury or Briere, possibly both. Losing Zubrus, who was, in my opinion, the best deadline pickup by any team.

Ottawa: Losing a couple of players because they are so handcuffed by the cap, like they lost Chara last year.

NJ: Brodeur is getting worse every year in the playoffs, and they are losing Scott Gomez, maybe even Rafalski too.

Tampa Bay: No depth, no goaltending, and no money to fix the problems.

ATL: most of the team is UFA, and they traded away their entire future to make the playoffs. Time to wait another 5 years for them.

    NYI: too easy.

  90. Doodie Machetto on

Sam and Josh, enjoy your summer and your golf. Thanks for the great work and the only blog that I post on.

  91. Thanks for the playoff team and for welcoming my favorite player as you guys all did. Hopefully you can take the streakiness out of him and command some respect for him from the league, something we Kings fans were never able to do.

I’m strictly a Kings fan but the incredible group of guys you have here makes it easy to support the team as a whole as I support Avery. This blog makes it even easier.

But don’t get me wrong. Next year when the Kings make the trek out to the East, I’ll be right there at MSG sporting my purple and black Avery jersey. Nice run though, and I expect to make your fan base one person bigger this time next year (Because well…I’m a Kings fan. These months are strictly for golf.) Nice job.

  92. craptain ego on

the main thing the Kings need is a goalie, Liza. and I can see them going after Toskala of the Sharks this summer

  93. Yenner Mot on

The sad thing is that only 2 Rangers were hitting like they mean it–Tyutin and Callahan. Others were throwing soft hits or not throwing at all. I am very disappointed and blame soft crap Renney for pussyfying playoff hockey. I can’t be proud of a team that failed to bring up the physical play for the playoffs.

  94. The NY Rangers gave the Sabres everything they could handle.

At Christmas time very few of us thought we’d makes it to game 6 in the second round of the playoffs. It was a great run but now it’s over.

Good luck to the Sabres in the next round against Ottawa. They will have their hands full.

Thanks Sam and Josh for making this a great forum. Hope to do it all over again next season.

  95. The Tonester on

Well, I can’t be ticked off because I’ve watched what amounted to playoff hockey for like two months. I think Renney got all they could out of this group. Shanny’s ears are probably still ringing, Straka will probably be under the knife in the next week or two; I’m not sure what else you could expect. They killed Atlanta AND stole their top prospect for Pascal Dupuis. They lost to Buffalo, but it was very close and Buffalo was, after all, the best team in the league in the regular season. What were they supposed to do, come back against Buffalo, then beat the Sens, then beat SJ/DET/ANA? Please. It was a fun ride and it should give us some hope for next season.

Upgrades are needed but the core is strong. How long ’till October??

I root for Ottawa, not because I like them, but because I like their style of play, fast, physical and exciting.

  97. Doodie Machetto on

I think the biggest debate for the immediate future is which UFAs do you bring back, particularly regarding Nylander and Shanny.

Renney got all he could out of this group? please. they would not have even made the playoffs if not for Avery arriving to bail Renney out of the firing squad.

  99. Yenner Mot on

This group got all it could from Renney, now it is time to fire his ass and hire a real coach who coaches with his head, not gut feeling.

  100. Just root against the Ducks. I wish it would come as naturally for everyone as it does for Kings fans.

  101. Doodie Machetto on

Correction to myself, I think Nylander is still under contract for next season.

    BTW, my votes:

    1) Shanny is a no because we have a lot of talented wingers in the pipeline and on the current roster that I’d like to see get top time I wouldn’t be pissed if they resigned him, but I would prefer they didn’t.
    2) Avery yes, but I’d like to see him on a third line as opposed to the 2nd.
    3) Hossa yes, but cheap.
    4) Immonen yes, but either for AHL or to be dealt.
    5) Isbister yes, but for AHL only.
    6) Ortmeyer is a tough one because of his specialized role. I’d like to replace him with a kid who can do Orty’s job but still pose an offensive threat. No.
7-10) Strudwick, Ozolinsh, Kaspar, Weekes no.

  102. Yenner Mot on

    Avery yes
Hossa no, just not good enough to be brought back
Shanahan no, the idiot wants back
    Isbister no
Ortmeyer yes could use him for a season or 2 more
    Rachunek no
    Strudwick, Ozolinsh, Valiquette, Weekes no

Kasparaitis and Immonen are signed for next season I think.

find a way to trade Malik and Jagr. I would play Kasparaitis over Malik, at least he delivers nice hits.

  103. I like this group, I think most will be back. Nylander and Shanny will be back. This team never gave up right til the final buzzer, showed a lot of heart. As long as Lundqvist plays this team will have a shot at the cup.

    “Renney=no

    Jagr=no

    doodie=no”

    totally agree

also no to Drury and Briere

  105. Doodie Machetto on

Shanahan just told Trautwig that if the team wants him back and can work something out with his agent, he’s gonna come back.

PS-look at the bright side guys: Now we can go to the Garden to see the Liberty! OH BOY!

  106. craptain ego on

no to Briere, but resounding YES to Drury. he is a very good two way center who can PK, PP, cover the opposing teams top C, score in the clutch better than anybody else, and is a quiet, composed leader.

  107. Well now I hope you whinny Ranger fans realize that 5 on 5 you couldn’t skate with the Sabres, 7 power play goals out of the 12 you scored. Don’t blame the refs anymore, just blame bums like Avery (0 points) who opened his yap before the series started and that cry baby Jagr, who doesn’t have Mario Lemieux to bail him out anymore. You have great fans, a good coach but are not as good as the Sabres period!!!!!!!!!

  108. Forget Drury, great player, but I rather see Dubinsky on the big squad.

I like Cullen as well. He is a great skater and works hard and moves people off the puck and wins draws. He won’t score 30 goals but he creates plays out there.

  109. Yenner Mot on

Cullen if he doesn’t improve his play next season and keeps playing like Rico Fata, he has to be traded.

  110. craptain ego on

ronny, you should be worrying about the subpar play of Roy, Afino, Kotalik, vanek, Pominville etc.

you had a lot of forwards who were exposed as overrated frauds in this series and the Isles series as well.

especially in the defensive zone, the guys I mentioned were very poor at getting to loose pucks and clearing the zone.

  111. Yenner Mot on

Kotalik is npretty good, but Roy, Pominville, Hecht, Vanek, and Afinogenov were pretty bad I think.

  112. Yenner Mot & craptain ego

Kotalik, Roy, Pominville, Hecht, Vanek and Afinigenov each had more points in the series than your so called star Avery. Hecht scored 2 goals today and well Max in OT in game 5. Hardly pretty bad as Yenner Mot says. Not everyone can score allot like Drury and Briere in a series and if they did you would of lost in 4 games.

  113. Vanek had 3 goals in games 1 and 2, and then pretty much disappeared. Set a good screen on Maxim’s GWG, but otherwise not much. Make no mistake, the defense of the Rangers is what caused the problems for Vanek, Roy, Pominville, Hecht, Max, even Briere for a lot of the series.

Sabres will have their hands more than full of the Sens team defense, and I think my team will fall short again in the CF.

Excellent series- Rangers have a good team and played very well throughout. A bit unlucky at times, but the purpose of a best of seven series is to identify the better team and I think that is what happened here.

You guys will look good next year, regardless of whatever lineup changes happen. A top 4 goalie will do that for ya.
