Greetings from Philips Arena, or “Blueland,” as the Thrashers marketing department has taken to calling these parts.
Thrashers Fever, catch it if you can. And if you do, tell three of your friends and maybe the team will double its season ticket base (Sorry, too easy).
Anyway, my apologies for the late correspondence, but it was an adventure getting here, including: a several hour layover in Charlotte, a freight train in front of the arena that prevented us from pulling into the press entrance, and then an endless loop around the arena after we tried to find another way in.
As far as pressing news, Marcel Hossa is still being called a game-time decision by Tom Renney, although Hossa himself fully expects to be alongside Jaromir Jagr and Michael Nylander. Brad Isbister, Colton Orr, Kevin Weekes are expected to be the scratches. Jason Strudwick made the trip, but only for practice purposes since he’s ineligible for the playoffs.
Other sights and sounds:
The team’s three rookies, Tommy Pock, Ryan Callahan, and Dan Girardi walking into the arena after making a Starbucks run for their veteran teammates.
Marty Straka testing out a sharpening job while dodging around the Zamboni on the ice below.
In the team’s dressing room, Jagr, Brendan Shanahan, and Sean Avery have all been situated next to one another, which is a departure from their regular season spots.
OK, just wanted to check in. More in a bit…
