It turns out the Rangers were inside the playoff picture for no more than 24 hours before being bumped out again by Carolina last night. Yet here’s why that’s not such a bad thing heading into today against the Pens:
If there was even the slightest chance the Rangers were going to sit back after two crucial wins over the Islanders this week, they were summarily reminded why there is still no room for error. The point is, with four weeks remaining in the season, it doesn’t really matter if the Rangers are in seventh place or 10th place right now, because that position will continue to change as the season evolves. What matters is they continue to play with the same desperation that propelled back into the playoff race to begin with.
Of course, what the heck do I know? I’ve been sitting in a jury box all week, where even a long-winded answer by Tom Renney sounds like a stand-up routine by comparison.
A few other updates:
Yes, Simon’s actions were extreme, and having been caught by a few stray sticks myself in the day, I understand how they can be used as lethal weapons. But I still think sports need to be self-governing in these instances. Otherwise you’re opening up a can of worms bigger than Nassau Coliseum.
OK, more later…
