It was fun while it lasted

It turns out the Rangers were inside the playoff picture for no more than 24 hours before being bumped out again by Carolina last night. Yet here’s why that’s not such a bad thing heading into today against the Pens:

If there was even the slightest chance the Rangers were going to sit back after two crucial wins over the Islanders this week, they were summarily reminded why there is still no room for error. The point is, with four weeks remaining in the season, it doesn’t really matter if the Rangers are in seventh place or 10th place right now, because that position will continue to change as the season evolves. What matters is they continue to play with the same desperation that propelled back into the playoff race to begin with.

Of course, what the heck do I know? I’ve been sitting in a jury box all week, where even a long-winded answer by Tom Renney sounds like a stand-up routine by comparison.

A few other updates:

  • Chris Simon’s hearing with the NHL is today, and the exact length of his suspension is likely to be determined shortly thereafter. Prediction: you won’t see Simon again this season. As for legal action taken by the Nassau County D.A., even the most passionate Rangers fans among you should hope it doesn’t happen. If you start holding hockey, or any contact sport for that matter, to the same standards of society as a whole, then you’re opening the door for an endless stream of athletes being hauled in before a judge.

Yes, Simon’s actions were extreme, and having been caught by a few stray sticks myself in the day, I understand how they can be used as lethal weapons. But I still think sports need to be self-governing in these instances. Otherwise you’re opening up a can of worms bigger than Nassau Coliseum.

  • No lineup changes expected for today against the Pens, so keep an eye on Brandon Dubinsky to see how he fares in his second outing. One other thing to look out for is the play of Karel Rachunek, who was actually fairly impressive last week in standing up Sidney Crosby. I’ve been fairly critical of Rachunek this season, as have many of you. But I will say his play has improved since being paired with Paul Mara, and I give him even more credit for jumping in on Simon on Thursday. Let’s see if he can keep it up.

    OK, more later…

    1. I agree I don’t want to see criminal charges against Simon, either. We’ll take care of our own, thankyouverymuch.

    2. True-

If charges are brought up against Simon for that, it opens the door for charges against hard clean hits.

Hollweg also already stated that they were square-
Let the league dish it out and let’s move on-
we’ve got hockey to play and playoffs to make-

    3. onecupin67years on

Let see what the wonder boy Dubinsky does against Sid and co.before you guys get all excited about him.

    4. The only thing to get excited about is the fact that the Rangers are actually giving Dubi a shot.

Hopefully, he will work out and more prospects will get their chance-

    5. Wonder Boy has already done more in one game then Immonen did in 14. Take a valium dude.

    6. do you know if fleury is starting in net for the penguins today? i know they have not been happy with his performance as of late, so is there a chance he sits?

    7. DoodieMachetto on

After some technical difficulties, I’m back.

Fleury is starting to become a bust, very quickly. He is very athletic, amazingly so. However, his goaltending skills are sub par, and he’s VERY inconsistent. If the Pens stay in Pittsburgh, we, as Rangers fans, can only hope that he becomes more of a bust, thus giving us some hope of being able to compete with a third year Crosby, and Sophomore Malkin and Staal.

    8. Pittsburgh has so many young good players that they will deal for a solid goaltender after the season if they deem it necessary.

These days, there are enough good goalies out there to go around.

    9. Let’s hope the PP is able to stop the Penguins PK scoring machine.

I agree, charges against a hockey player for on ice actions are unwaranted. Let the league deal with it. The only worry I have is because Hollywood was not seriously injured, they will not give Simon a long suspension. They need to do this to prevent further similar acts.

    10. czechthemout!!!!! on

blueclue-good goalies don’t win the stanley cup.only great ones do.those are very difficult to find.it is too bad, because i think we had the makings of a great one in dan blackburn.now i think we have a great one in the king, and montoya is really coming on in hartford, and could fetch a really good young player from another team that can score goals, because that is what i think is really missing in our system.

    11. Stick was used with intent to injure and as a weapon, thus, criminal charges should be put on Simon.

    12. Why when the pregame is on I have to look at the other teams players, I thought this was Rangers Gamenight. I want to see a Staal but it is not Jordan.

    13. Straka – Nylander – Jagr
      Avery – Dubinsky – Isbister
      Prucha – Cullen – Ortmeyer
      Hollweg – Betts – Orr

      Malik – Rosival
      Mara – Rachunek
      Pock – Girardi

    14. is this good that the top line is back together? and does the 2nd line become a defensive liability?

    15. goalies take a while to develop and sometimes show flashes of brilliance with inconsistent play. look at JSG in anaheim. not everyone comes into the league and dominates like brodeur.

    16. Simon got 15 regualar season games and 7 playoff games. He got off two easy. I am disappointed with Colin Campbell.

    17. Hopefully that will translate in to the rest of the year for Simon as the Islanders won’t make it past the 1st round even if they make the playoffs-

    18. The NHL proves once again that it has NO SPINE and no desire to take shenanigans like Simon’s out of the game.

    19. It’s pathetic that Jagr still gets booed in Pittsburgh.

I hope the Penguins become homeless soon-

    20. i agree blueclue- why would they be booing a player that helped bring them 2 cups? pretty idiotic.

    21. have u ever seen a player dive and act more than crosby…my goodness, everytime with this kid..

    22. Dubinsky looks damn steady out there. Nothing flashy, but excellent body position at all times.

Roszival on the power play with Jagr is very annoying. Rachunek and Mara have no qualms about letting a shot rip.

    23. SHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOT THE PUCK! OMG…WHAT THE FUCK! R U KIDDING ME…WHAT A JOKE OUR PP…

    24. have u ever seen anything like it. they just passed the puck for 2 minutes. i dont get it…enough of the patty cake…makes my blood boil…one pass and shoot…thats it…

    25. MARA, RACHUNEK, OR CULLEN Need to be on PP unit 1 they are the only ones who shoot and have good shots. Jagr can shoot but doesnt think he can.

    26. An average of .2 (point two) shots per power play. Come on boys, shoot the puck!! 1 shot on 5 PP chances.

    27. 2-0, here we go again. Gotta kill this penalty. Jagr needs to drink a red bull or something he looks lethargic.

    28. Wow I see We are battling refs again wow. What a bullshi* call on Malik and NYlander….Crosby is a punk bitc*.

    29. central park Jogger on

yeah, Malik falling down twice in the 1st, allowing a breakaway at the end of the 2nd, taking penalties, yeah he’s just great.

he’s just another of the selfish Jagr posse that hogs the whole PP, takes no shots, just dicks around with the puck, and gives the second unit no time to do anything.

and these morons wonder why the Pens fans boo that selfish, sulking piece of crap. for the same reason that the Cap fans boo him. he pouted his way out of town, dummy.

    30. Yea makes sense to me why they boo him, Won 2 cups with them and was the Caps only good player when he was there. Think before you talk moron.

    31. central park Jogger on

he won shit without Mario & co. Jagr after Mario turned the Pens and Caps into dog teams.

    32. The Rangers deserve every last bit of this. They just don’t seem to care enough, especially the Czech cashers.

    33. Reginald Dunlop on

what a friggin joke this league is……….you cant even touch that pussy crosby….lift his stick and he spins like a top and these two ass refs are calling everything…..there arent two better refs for this game??????????

    34. I’d love to know what renney tells these guys during the second intermission in all of these games.

Jagr needs to take the skirt off.

    35. they waited too long- they did not take nearly enough shots on this crappy goalie.

you can blame the 1st PP unit for not keeping the 2-0 lead. how many f**king PP did they have a row in the second where they took NO SHOTS?! inexcusable.

    36. onecupin67years on

1st period -Cullen checks crosby who spears cullens with toe of his stick no call ,wuss cullen skates off
3rd period -crosby crashes the net ,without even a facial by the d or lundqvist- my point is they make it easier for crosby to get away with everything, all he does is whine on the ice .
dont bother to shoot ,the puck will find its own way in right.
remember if they make the playoffs sather and renney are safe,I hope they dont.time for change.

    37. Excellent PK by Ortmeyer. Nice camera work by MSG to catch the ridiculous lack of icing call.

    38. Did the Rangers connect a break out pass at all in the final ten minutes?! It’s stupid.

    39. the penguins have earned at least a point in every game vs. the rangers this year.

the game was ours to win or lose at the start of the third.

    40. We need this extra point here!

Crosby and Malkin both just went to the dressing room- don’t know why-

    41. As well as we played against the Isles, we conversely played as poor today…

-and it’s the second bad angle goal Hank gave up versus Colby Armstrong????

    42. That sux…..Roszival looked like he was hurting pretty good there….the Rangers god a bad break there…and that sux…along with the non call on Crosby closing his hand on the puck on his goal….but all in all the Rangers didnt go out and seal the deal late int he 2nd or early in the 3rd…but it six to have a hurt guy when its 4 on 4…there is to much ice to deal with…

    43. this was disgusting

and i hate watching little kids jump around on the ice after a freaken goal.

failure to clear the puck out of the zone & malik, who played fairly well, puts it in.

where are the stats on the record for most goals put in off your own players stick? cause im betting we’ve passed that.

just when you thought there was hope

    44. Starka should be ashamed of himself…..2 chances to clear the puck and turned it over twice, eventually leading to the goal….if he has one arm, he shouldn’t be out there…he looks terrible….rosival was just as bad

    45. These guys still get ahead and hope to win a game 2-1 instead of burying a team that had nothing whatever for most of the afternoon. Where is the killer instinct? Horrendous.

    46. Glad they got a point at least. Also glad they lost. The effort was non-existent in the overtime and 3rd period. No one was skating (i.e. Malik and Rosival) in the overtime and there was no way they deserved to win that game.
Boston lost though…that’s good. Oh and those last 2 PPs… horrible. Maybe if Jagr is out for a little bit they will start shooting more on the PP.

    47. i agree- straka was great this year. he’s playing hurt and its not worth it. he didnt play well today. let him sit and bring up some kids.

    48. central park Jogger on

anyone who blames Lundquist is a moron. that was deflected in by the big dummy ma-geek

    49. onecupin67years on

swhitefi-Straka is a total waste, lack of effort on the attempt
the pens won because they shot the puck ,but the rangers dont care they still got a pt. out of this rediculous NHL point system.you should no pts after regulation period.

    50. central park Jogger on

Jagr quit. watch, he’ll play tomorrow, as long as no one boos the sensitive little baby.

    51. Whomever blamed Lundquist for the overtime goal is blind. The big goof deflected the puck top self. I’ve said this many times this year and I will say it over and over again. I do not want to see jagr and his buddies anymore on the rangers. All these dopes do especially on the power play is skate in circles and never try to shoot the puck at the net and drive the net for rebounds, that is how you get many power play goa;s. These dopes just keep skating in circles and making passes until they make one to many passes. I literally can’t stand jagr and his idiot buddies.

    52. To get a point in an obvious “trap” game, ie. following an emotional series against the Isles, where the Rangers figured to have little fire going into it, is not the end of the world. But to lose it the way they did, given that the two points were begging to be taken, is damaging nonetheless.

    53. My guess on what happened to Jagr: someone, possibly Avery, told him to stop playing like such a stereotype, and he stomped off.

    54. onecupin67years on

After the way they played they deserve crapola ,nada, zilch.they should give the pt.back to bettman

    55. Rangers deserved to lose this one. Why?? They didn’t put away the Penguins when they had the PP’s. Pass pass pass, my ass.

You don’t shoot, you don’t score. Malik and Rosival need to be gone the end of this season.

    56. WOW Crosby is such a bitch everytime he gets touched theres a penalty, if there is a place called “bullshitville” the pens should go there I watch them a lot when the Rangers are not on and they get those bounces all the time. Lundqvist should no be blamed nothing he can do bullshit bounce as always. I’ll take the point, NJ MARK, theres my one point time for two tomorrow.

    57. roszival had 29 minutes, pock (2hit, 2bs) and girardi around 10,
i really dont understand that, ill go with the guys on tv, roszival looked dead tired ….
this loss to a part is on renney

    58. Reginald Dunlop on

hey rangers just got called for another penalty for not giving Baby Sid a piece of the post game pizza……maybe the genius assigner has a better ref crew for tomorrow…..ha ha ha right……where is Bill Friday and Denis Morel, they look good compared to the two stooges we have out there today….and what’s all the hubbub about the missed icing? the linesmen just wanted to get in on the screwup calls…..maybe they are aspiring to be referees

    59. Jagr missed the 3rd period to choreograph some new synchronized skating and ice dancing routines to use on power plays…

    60. All they had to do was keep shooting on Fleury. He’s been weak-

Yet our Euro Trash are always looking for the perfect shot.

Why the HELL does Prucha only get 11:35 min of ice time when he’s been skating well, scoring, and winning games for us lately?

    61. It’s easy to blame the refs, agree they do suck, but they lost this game themselves with the pass pass pass my ass routine.

    62. Agree, lennynyr, only idiots blame the refs. They sucked and are ten years old, but the Rangers beat themselves.

    63. central park Jogger on

“My guess on what happened to Jagr: someone, possibly Avery, told him to stop playing like such a stereotype, and he stomped off.”

lol. who gets traded now for hurting the feelings of little Waa-gr

    64. Jagr made a commercial-Yah ven mah hemroids hurt I juse prepahrahtion haytch on mah hole

    65. BlueClue: the OT winner was a pas to Talbot…you can see the angle of the “shot” Malik put his stick in the passing lane just as he should…AS HE SHOULD BY THE WAY…and it deflected in…actuly I think it hit the pst as well…its bad luck…and it seems to happen to the Rangers alot more than others teams…but probably not…that along with Roszival hurting on the ice during that entrie time int he zone…it wasnt going to be easy for the Rangers…but I will take the point…most of you probably penciled in a 6-2 loss or something for the Rangers today…and they will lose some…so as long as they continue to get points in every game and win more than lose they will be in the Playoffs…they are one point out with 2…or is it 1 game in hand…its not the best position…but its VERY doable…also the Pens are higher in the standing for a reason…NOT just because they have beaten the Rangers…but they have won alot of games late in the season, against alot of teams…the worst part of that game was some of the poor officiating towrds both teams…its a joke…really is…if the Rangers had won, it would have looked to PIT as if the refs helped them lose, same for the Rangers…in a game like that, you know the Refs were part of the outcome to much…its nice when you can say the refs did nothing to the flow of the game and it was all the players…to bad that has only happend for a few games this year…and I am NOT saying it was all the refs fault…they just affected the flow of the game with bad calls…I dont know which way the game would have gone if they had done a good job…maybe the Ragners would have lost in regulation…may they would have won…thats not the point…the point is that the refs are affecting games to much this year…instead of letting the players win or lose…and that means only calling penalties when something against the rules is done…NOT calling something becasue the outcome makes it look like something against the rules was done…or making a decision weather or not to make a call from the name on the back of the jersey…

    66. central park Jogger on

look at that sulking little baby in the post game interview.

I told you he just quit, and would play again tomorrow, like usual.

    67. Wildcard

Thanks..I couldn’t see the replay even once because on my NHL package, the game gets cut off right after the end.

    68. What did Prucha do to fall out of Renney’s graces?

When Isbister gets 4 minutes more playing time than you and you are on a hot streak, what does that say about the coach?

    69. To all of Rodent’s members who post here, I checked Rodent’s site yesterday, through another computer of course since mine is blocked, and couldn’t believe that I got 58 hits when I searched on my name for just the last 2 months.

Come on guys haven’t posted there since I was kicked off in Nov. I should be honored that I am still discussed. Actually I find it amusing, especially with the incorrect conclusions by your exhalted leader Rodent. I sent him my email address to contact me but he cowardly refused. He is not as smart as you might think. I’ll check again soon and laugh my ass off as i read your responses about me. Thanks for the entertainment.

Still think Chardkerm is me?? LMAO!!

    70. Renney needs to be furious. He’s not. He needs to be throwing appliances in the room and blowing off the media. He’s not. He wants people to think that through his compassion and patience, he can be an effective coach. He’s not.

    71. central park Jogger on

mealy-mouth Renney doesn’t trust the kids, so Prucha sits on the bench while the czech posse kills off 2 mins on the PP by passing standstill on the perimeter.

    72. Renney is a nice guy who stops team busses to give a crying kid an autograph, very commendable. But his coaching is not, he sucks as a coach and I have been campaigning to get him fired since the collapse last season. I was met with lots of ridicule on Bird’s and Rodent’s sites but who turned out to be right? Learn to respect experience Rodent and Bird disciples!!

    73. BlueClue : same here…but since I only have Center ice and no MSG…and its hard to find re-plays I tape the games to see things…I watched the winner lik e5 times in a row…the puck was heading towrds the net, but the top of the crease…I think the worst thing was Malik sems to not have a good grip on teh stick…and his stick like…twisted so the toe ended up pointing at the net…and the puck followed the stick…but its hard to say that if he hadnt put his stick there that Talbot wouldnt have gotten it…I mean…some peopel jsut jump on a player withough even watching the re-play once…I jsut think that before peopel rip a guy they should make sure there wasnt something else going on as well…we havbe no clue what would have happend if he had let the puck go…this was ALOT difrent that reaching while in front of the net and tipping it high or trying to waive at a puck in the air with your stick…this was putting a stick on the passing lane…thats something that all defenders do…this just bounced the wrong way…and BAIRLY went in as well…some bad luck IMHO

    74. central park Jogger …ahhhhh…..Prucha was on the top unit…at least most of the night…what are you saying about Prucha..beasue he was out there for alot of PP time…and he actuly made some of those passes along the outside in the 2nd and 3rd period…sop is he to blame…or are you trying to say he should have been out there more??

    75. Come on Wildcrud, you know perfectly well that Malik sucks as well as Rosival. On long shots, get the f**k out of the way and let your goaltender see the puck clearly and not with a direction change, or do what Ortmeyer does and block the shot with your body. Haven’t seen Malik ever do that.

    76. Roszival and Malik are lazy players. How many opportunities did they have to clear the puck? Give me a break. I hope the Rangers get rid of these two guys over the summer. I like Tyutin, Girardi, Pock, Rachunek and Mara. These young guys play hard and keep their legs moving, they don’t just give up on plays. Roszival and Malik glide on their skates and make the lazy plays. I hope Marc Staal is ready to crack the lineup next year and maybe a Liffiton or Baranka can make it to. We need these young guys on defense who play like it may be their last game.

This game was the result of waaaaaay too many penalties.

And Jagr gets injured. Uh, when is his contract up. I can’t wait for him to not be on our team or our captain anymore. Hopefully, only a season or two more of him. The Rangers have done a good job of incorporating youth, especially on defense. We need to continue this trend next season, hopefully.

      07-08 lines:

      Straka-IMMONEN-Jagr

      Avery-DUBINSKY-Shanahan

      Prucha-Cullen-Ortmeyer

      Hollweg-Betts-DAWES

      Tyutin-Girardi

      Mara-Rachunek

      Pock-STAAL

      Lundqvist/MONTOYA

These lines are assuming Nylander and Weekes are not resigned and that the Rangers trade or do not resign Malik and Roszival. It also assumes that Shanahan is resigned. Rookies are denoted in caps.

    77. Valley: Roszival wasnt tires…well he amy havew been tired as well…but he was hurting…it seemed lik ehe couldnt move…when he went to clear the puck he partaly doubled over…I am wondering what he hurt…the way his arms were it looked to me like someone whos ribbs hurt…and he did go into the boards rather hard on his side…so that wouldnt be to far fetched…but I am just guessing…it could have been a shoulder, or a hip, or a neck or back…or anything…but if you can see the replay of his failed clear, its like he went to poke the puck out and as he extended he hurt and started to bend over, than he tried to recouver to get back defensivly…but he had no energy, probably BOTH being tired AND being hurt…but he Pock would have been tired on that shift…the Rangers got pinned…and were stuck out ther for over a min…it doesnt matter how long you have played int h game…a min long shift mostly defensivly, 4 on 4 will tire a player out on the first shift of the game…

    78. lennynyr : well yeah…on long shots you do that..but not on passes to the front of the net…I have watched the re-play like 20 times now…the puck was going to the top of the crease…so any defender in the NHL should be trying to stop that…I am NOT saying I want Malik to play another shift for the Rangers I DONT…I want him gone as bad as anyone else…but I am not going to cahnge the facts around to rip him more…he put his stick in a passing lane…sometimes it works out great for him…in fact earlier in the 3rd peariod he did the same thing and the puck went into the corner…but I dont see anyone bitching about it…thats my point…Malik may suck…but that last play had nothing to do with it…and you dont go slidiong down towrds the corner liek that 4 on 4 ESPECIALLY when Roszival was hurting…that would leave Malik out of the play trying to get up and that would mean 4 Pens on their feet, and only 3 Rangers with one hurt and all of them tired. Again, Malik sucks…big time…but he dose enough by himelf thats bad…we dont need to say he did things wrong that he didnt…

    79. this, by the way, was the 20th one goal game the rangers have lost. they have been able to get 8 extra points from OT/SO losses and have gotten no points in 12 games.

    80. central park Jogger on

Rosival had 7 mins more ice time than Girardi and Pock combined. 28-11-10

girardi and pock both played well, but they sit while rosival coughs up the puck dog tired in OT.

    81. @wildcard,
you got a point, no doubt, it was a long shift and probably he was hurt during this shift,
still, i think 30 min to 10 is not good balanced, girardi/pock played very solid.

    82. Wildcard

I get Comcast in Maryland and for the life of me, I don’t know why they are showing the Boston-Detroit game on NBC tomorrow over the Rangers-Carolina.

The Hi-Def would have been nice-

    83. 2 handed tom-a-hawk is not just contact sports getting out of hand.

I hope Nassau DA goes after him. He could have killed Hollweg; given about 2″ off in his aim.

    84. 2nd game in a week the rangers coughed up a 2-0 lead in the 3rd to lose to the pens in ot

    85. central park Jogger on

I guarantee that if the situation was reversed, and Hollweg did the ax swinging, he would get suspended until Oct.

    86. central park Jogger on

now watch pansie Renney say that the suspension was long enough for him. ’cause he says Simon is a “good guy”. gutless wonder.

    87. AngelusMortis on

I didn’t hear any of the game, looks like the Ranges blew another 2-0 lead? Excellent.

    88. True Fans Bleed RW&B on

I understand the Rangers got out-played the final 30 minutes of this game, but how does spearing Cullen’s groin go undetected? How is a player allowed to catch a puck behind the net, and in stride drop it in the crease and score? I thought “closing your hand on the puck” was a penalty – last week it got called against the Flyers (playing the Devils, of course). I thought that spinning yourself to the ice while a 5’9 185lb guy skates around you was diving? I also thought icings are waved off when the other team gets to the pucks first, or is it the other way around??

I guess when you roll with the guy that complains to referee’s 35 seconds into the game, and wears 87, then things get called a little differently.

Renney’s gotta yell at Roszival (ATROCIOUS!) and Nylander. If Jagr won’t shoot and Straka has a bad shoulder then that powerplay’s more useless than a BIG woman buying sexy lingerie.

Good teams make the breaks for themselves, but the ref’s had an agenda today.

    89. God that power play is a total joke. One more game where the failure to finish leaves them scrambling in the 3rd (and OT). Renney’s gotta even up the playing time. Pathetic.

    90. big women with sexy lingerie. reminds me of married with children where Al Bundy carpooled with the Victoria’s Secret Models (but the Big Secret Version)

    91. If our top line has not been scoring on the Power Play (especially without Hossa) and Nylander, Straka and Jaagr are all refusing to shoot, then why the heck doesn’t genius Renney put Prucha, Cullen and Avery out, along with Mara and Rachunek at the point?

Our top line looked like a bunch of figure skaters today-

    92. central park Jogger on

“Although his(Hollweg)phone was ringing all night and this morning from family and friends asking about his health, he said, no call came from Simon. “I haven’t heard, and I haven’t heard of any attempts (to reach me)”.

Rangers coach Tom Renney, who coached Simon here in 2004 before he was traded to Calgary, declined to comment on the suspension. “Good people make mistakes,” he said. “It’s a serious issue and I believe the league will handle it appropriately.”
      —————————

      gutless clueless pansie Renney.

    93. Renney is a braindead idiot. I am glad that useless idiot Jagr is finally injured, hope I never see him play again.

what Rangers need to do if they had any brains is send back Isbister and Dubinsky and call up Immonen, Moore and Jessiman. They are older and a bit more polished than Dubinsky(who I think needs to strengthen his legs and lower body to become more effective).

Malik and Rozsival are brutal, lately and should be separated or healthy scratched. Also no need to play Orr when we have problems scoring, call up Callahan or Korpikoski or Byers instead.

Firing Renney ASAP would be a good idea

lol at Immonen as the 1st line center. That will be replaced with a UFA.

Hey, Frank, are you “lol”ing at Marc Savard? In the future you could be “lol”ing at Immonen as he puts up major points with another team.

TOM “Puppetboy” RENNEY or his coaches have no clue about going into a shutdown mode with a 2-0 lead in the third period. These guys shouldn’t even be allowed to coach a lamaze class.

    95. immonen on the first line??

blaming dubinsky squarely for the loss?

      ripping lundqvist?

like i said these comments get worse and worse every day good lord.

    96. Immonen is never going to be a true 1st line center. No way.

Does anyone have any facts on Jagr’s injury?

    97. at 4 minutes ice per game, no player can do anything, and no conclusions can be reached about Dubinsky. it is not Dubinsky who looks bad in that situation, but Renney.

he called him up, he put him on the 2nd line, and then played him 4 mins. that is a disgrace.

    98. that cretin coach knows that we have a game vs Carolina in less than 22 hours and he does not spread out the icetime, he does not put Prucha, Dubinsky on the PP or PK. He plays 4 or 5 forwards on the PP when they have a 2-0 lead. What is the point of playing Straka that can barely do anything?
I bet Jagr plays tomorrow while not being able to do much. This coach has no brains.

    99. NICK I LIKE YOUR LINES FOR 08 BUT AS FAR AS STAAL GOES I THINK MAYBE HE SHOULD BE SOMEONE WHO IS A CALL UP FOR INJURY , YOU DONT WANNA RUSH HIM INTO THE NHL TO QUICK BUT IM ANXIOUS TO SEE HIM PLAY.

      ONE CUP!!!

YEA ITS FRUSTRATING WHEN TEAMS DONT GO AFTER CROSBY BUT WHAT THE HELL DO YOU EXPECT, IF YOU TELL CROSBY HE HAS AN EYELASH ON HIS CHEEK YOU MIGHT BE IN THE SAME POSITION AS SIMON IS IN.

AS FAR AS THIS GAME GOES, ITS PATHETIC, STRAKA SHOULDNT BE PLAYING, SINCE WHEN IS IT OKAY TO PLAY A GAME WHERE YOU CANT EVEN SHOOT, OH WOOOW HES THERE TO PASS THE PUCK AND GAIN THE ZONE ON THE PP, WELL SOME JOB HE DID. TO MANY TIMES THIS HAPPENED, WITH THE BLOWN LEADS.

FOR THE MOST PART I THOUGHT SOME PLAYED GREAT, LIKE AVERY AND PRUCHA (LIKE THEY HAVE BEEN), DUBI PLAYED STEADY ASIDE FROM THE PENALTY WHICH EVERYONE WILL BE QUICK TO JUDGE AND BLAME IT ON HIM BUT HE WAS AGAINST CROSBY AND NO MATTER WHAT IF YOUR TO CLOSE TO HIM THEN YOUR FORCED TO KILL A PK, ISBISTER WAS ALRIGHT BUT THE GUY NEEDS TO PUT THE PUCK IN THE NET WITH THE CHANCES HE GETS, AND LIKE EVERYONE IS SAYING HERE…WHO EVER BLAMES HANK…SHUT UP, YOU KNOW JACK ABOUT HOCKEY AND ITS EASIER SAID THEN DONE,,AND I THINK HANK SHOULD LASH OUT AT HIS TEAM, BECAUSE TO MANY TIMES SHOTS ARE DEFLECTED IN BY HIS OWN TEAMATES. NOW HOPEFULLY TOR, MON, AND ATL AND NYI LOSE TONIGHT, AND I THINK JAGR IS PLAYING TOMORROW BUT IF NOT THEY GOTTA BRING UP SOMEONE, AND I THINK CALLAHAN IS THE RIGHT CALL….

    100. heres something for everyone to ponder::

had the rangers learned to keep a multiple goal lead (meaning 2 or 3 goal leads) they would have an extra 15 POINTS IN THE STANDINGS! 15 POINTS! they have lost 10 games in which they had those leads- 5 they have lost in regualtion w/out a point and 5 they have lost in a SO or OT by gaining one point. add the missing points together, and thats 15 points that were lost.

and at that point they wouldnt be battling at the bottom of the conference to hopefully gain a playoff spot- they would be battling w/ the devils for the atlantic divison lead.

now thats what i call disturbing.

    101. Anyone who blames Lundqvist is a complete moron, knows absolutely nothing about hockey, and should stop watching. He is the BEST kid to come out of our system since Brian Leetch and is easily the MVP of this team for 2 years in a row. Without him, we’d be talking about baseball right now because the Rangers would be out of it. He has the best GAA in the NHL since the All Star break and is already an elite goalie in this league. Any REAL Ranger fan would NEVER blame him for today. Go get a Fishsticks jersey with Poti on the back of it.

Rangers PP screwed us today bigtime, but it seems like we’ve established that already.

NYR1994: Hopefully, we get 2 points tomorrow and we’ll get our 3 for the weekend and call it a decent weekend. But I hate when they give away points like that.

    102. PUT IT THIS WAY IF WE DIDNT HAVE LUNDQVIST THEN WE’D BE IN THE FLYERS POSITION, WE GOT A 24 OR 25 YEAR OLD NET MINDER WHO IS PHENOMINAL AND I CAN BET MY LEFT NUT THAT SOME WHERE DOWN THE LINE HOPEFULLY WITH NYR HE WILL WIN THE CUP, HE NOT THEN WITH ANOTHER TEAM. IT PISSED ME OFF LAST YEAR WHEN RANGER FANS BOOED HANK AFTER HE GAVE UP 5 GOALS, ITS PATHETIC AS FAR AS IM CONCERNED HES GOD. HES WHATS KEEPING US IN PLAYOFF CONTENTION, NOT WEEKES OR ANY OTHER FOOLISH GOAL TENDER….

    103. I would also give Ed’s left nut to bet that Lundqvist will be a quality goalie for years to come. This team as a whole is too inconsistent; Henrik has at least been steady all 2007.

    104. bottom line- if your blaming lundqvist get off this blog. your obviously not a rangers fan and should just go follow the fishsticks or devils.

    105. CHRIS BET YOUR OWN NUTS,I CANT SHARE. DOES ANYONE KNOW IF CHRIS SIMON WILL GET MORE THEN WHAT WERE BEING TOLD (15 + 7), THIS GUY SHOULD BE DONE FOR THE WHOLE PLAYOFFS IF GOD WILLINGLY THEY MAKE IT, EITHER WAY RANGERS NEED TO TRY TO MAKE 8TH OR 7TH, I THINK GOING AGAINST SABRES IS A MATCH UP I FEEL MORE COMFORTABLE WITH, UNLESS WE SNEEK INTO 6TH …

    106. “at 4 minutes ice per game, no player can do anything, and no conclusions can be reached about Dubinsky. it is not Dubinsky who looks bad in that situation, but Renney.

he called him up, he put him on the 2nd line, and then played him 4 mins. that is a disgrace.”

Really? Immonen got called up and was barely playing, yet he manages to score every other game. Dubinsky is NOT ready for the NHL, so stop sucking his dick. I really hope the Rangers trade Immonen to someone in our division so he can destroy us everytime he plays against us. Maybe then all of you idiots (Kovy, Ed, Joe, etc) will realize that he is actually a top 6 forward and can put up points consistently. And he can actually skate and finish, unlike your “savior,” Dubinsky aka the next Isbister.

    107. well based on the comments of many if Immonen replaces JJ we should be having a parade down broadway in the middle of June. So plan your vacation schedules accordingly.

    108. Who said he should be replacing JJ? He should’ve had a permanent roster spot a while ago. Dubi and Isbister should be gone. Immonen and any “hot” wing should be up.

    109. How can any of you make predictions, especially negative ones on a player like Dubinsky.

Players who are great in the AHL sometimes suck at NHL level and vice versa.
Here we have a kid with size, toughness, a good shot and soft hands. He’s only 20 years old-

HE IS DEFINITELY NOT THE NEXT ISBISTER…GET A GRIP!

    110. hey, teddy bear, get a clue. it is NOT a matter of Dubi OR immo. as far as I’m concerned, they should BOTH be getting more ice time, dipshit.

so quit your bs about Dubi, he is not taking anything away from immo. immo was screwed by Renney long before Dubi was even brought up. so wake up. it is RENNEY who is keeping immo off the ice, not Dubi.

    111. In addition, you can’t judge a new guy like Dubinsky at and NHL level when he only has 4 minutes of ice time-

Put him in Hossa’s spot after a few weeks and I would expect decent numbers.

    112. JOE YOUR RIGHT…EVERYONE THINKS I HATE IMO, I LIKE HIM BUT I LIKE DUBI BETTER, HES MORE GRITTY, HE NEEDS TO WORK ON HIS BALANCE GOD KNOWS, SO TED TAKE IT EASY ALREADY, DONT TURN THIS INTO WW 3, ITS NOT A BIG DEAL YOU WANNA BITE SOMEONES HEAD OFF THEN THATS RENNEY, HES THE ONE, STRAKA SHOULD STAY OUT AND JAGR SHOULD GET IN THE PRESS BOX FOR 1 GAME AND BRING UP CALLY AND WHO EVER….

    113. Neil Katcher on

Don’t know if this has been mentioned already, but Jagr’s injury is undisclosed leg injury – my best guess would be the groin injury that’s been hampering him much of the season.

    114. again, they are calling up wrong people, they need to be calling up those that are most mature and polished and can play in all situations–Immonen, Moore, and maybe Jessiman would be my choices.

    115. why can’t we do what the devils did when they fired I think Ftorek and replaced him with Robinson and won the Cup? We need to fire Renney to at least bring some sanity on this team.

    116. WHAT EVER HAPPENS TO RENNEY NEEDS TO HAPPEN NEXT YEAR.

      SON OF SAM!!

GOOD CHOICES BUT THERES NO NEED TO RUSH JUESSIMAN, IT WOULD BE NICE TO SEE HIM WITH THE TEAM BUT ILL SETTLE FOR DAWES, THEY GOTTA GIVE HIM ICE TIME THOUGH. BUT WHO CARES.

WHY DOES EVERYONE KEEP CRYING ABOUT WHO TO BRING UP, IT DOESNT MAKE A DIFFERENCE ANY MORE, CHANCES ARE THERE NOT BROUGHT UP AND IF THEY ARE THEY DONT GET ENOUGH ICE…IM SICK OF THE WHOLE COACHING STAFF, AND BY THE WAY I WANNA THROW THIS IN THERE ,,, I HATE BILLY JAFFE. THAT ASSHOLE TWEASES HIS EYE BROWS…

    117. “We need to fire Renney to at least bring some sanity on this team.”

      call it a sanity clause.

it would be the best present we could get.

    118. simon’s saying he had a concussion?! f**king pussy! he should own up to what he did and stop making excuses!!!

    119. Jessiman is older and bigger than Dawes, Dubinsky, Callahan, etc. so I don’t think that is “rushing”

    120. Simon Coward, Canadian idol on

Simon finally put out his phony lawyer statement blaming the whole thing on his “concussion”.

he’ll probably get goon rehab and a $10 fine.

    121. funny thing is that instead of apologising to Hollweg he said he “would like to reach out to him” which could be a double meaning as in reach out with another chop to the head with a stick.

    122. “Here we have a kid with size, toughness, a good shot and soft hands. He’s only 20 years old-”

Ok, John Madden. All of those skills are great, and I’m sure he excels in all of them, but can he put them together at the NHL level? Nope. We already know what Immonen can do. And I can judge whoever the fuck I want with however much ice time they get because you morons do it for everyone. Don’t even tell me everyone on this board didnt judge Immonen when he was called, yet he proved all you guys wrong. You just wanna see Dubi do amazing so you can all say, “WE TOLD YOU ALL ALONG, RENNEY, WAHHH. I CAN BE A BETTER COACH, WAHHH.” And yes, it’s both Dubi’s fault and Renney’s fault that Immonen isn’t here.

“GOOD CHOICES BUT THERES NO NEED TO RUSH JUESSIMAN”

No need to rush Jessiman? How about rushing the shit out of Dubinsky. Son of Sam said it best… we need polished players, not players with “size and grit” because if they’re not experienced/mature, then size and grit don’t mean shit.

    123. if you ask me, this is quite disrespectful towards hollweg & the rangers organization, as well as the islanders to be taking this long w/ a decision. how much longer are we going to have to wait?

    124. Simon still has not even apologized to Hollweg.

Breddan Witt saying that since Hollweg wasn’t badly hurt, it really wasn’t a bad incindent.

      What freakin A**holes.

    125. “Why do you think Jessiman is more mature and polished than Dawes and dubi?”

I didn’t say that, I barely ever seen him play. But he is bigger and older. I said Moore and Immonen are more polished and mature.

    126. This is a bad team. The Sather and Co. are always mishandling the young prospects. Its not going to change alsong as this Management is in control.

Critizing Henrik, Dubi, Pock, And any other kids in this organization is wrong.

      Critize the organization.

    127. honestly though if Dubinsky is the future #2 center for us, I think we are in trouble, I think it is pushing it, same way as Nylander as #1. Dubinsky is having difficulty scoring in AHL, he looks like a 3rd line 2 way checking center. Buy Dubinsky needs to get stronger and drop some excess weight he needs to get faster and more agile and not so top heavy.

    128. what else is new w/ the islanders making excuses for goons & attempted murder since no one was hurt or killed– islanders are complete idiots.

speaking of idiots, watch the replay of the hit and notice islander fans clapping after the incident. im glad fans around league can see the stupidity inside that crap hole they call an arena.

    129. Simon’s swing I don’t think was extremely hard, I don’t thonk he used anywhere near his whole strength, and I think Hollweg did some acting job not moving for a long time. Maybe I am wrong, but that is what it looked like.

    130. I think The Rangers prospects are weak at the center postion. They have alot of good kids with talent, but not one with clear cut #1 center potential. Immonen, Dubi, Brody Dupont and Artem Anisimov are going nice prospects but they are not going to be dominating 1st line centers.Center is the weak point of this team right now and maybe in the near future.

    131. Joey –

I’m not hostile, I just think it’s a joke that everyone (aside from a select few) is drooling over Dubi and he hasn’t even done anything worthwhile. I also think it’s a joke that they think he’s better than Immonen.

    132. Maybe the PP unit will TRY to shoot the puck. How you dont LIFT your stick to shoot once on 2 full powerplays is beyond my knowledge.

    133. Simon Coward, Canadian idol on

Simon’s swing I don’t think was extremely hard, I don’t thonk he used anywhere near his whole strength, and I think Hollweg did some acting job not moving for a long time. Maybe I am wrong, but that is what it looked like.”
      ……….

son of sam or lawyer of Simon?

    134. no thats colin campbell explaining why simon only got a week off for trying to take a guys head off.

campbell will somehow screw the rangers over, guarantee it.

    135. Frank- With all due respect, I have the right to my opinion and there is no need for you to come calling me an idiot. If you understood my reasoning, it would make sense to you. Jagr doesnt try half the time. He looks lost out there. He passes the puck around like you get points for it, If he tried half as hard as Prucha, Cullen, Ortmeyer, Hollweg, etc. He would would be a machine. He is a cancer to the clun house in my opinion. He creates controversy at all times. He is the same guy that said point shots are stupid. He is heartless and chooses when he wants to try. Not trading Jagr was dumb. Putting a C on his chest was even dumber.

    136. “son of sam or lawyer of Simon?”

just not a homer like most.

“Youd have to be an idiot to think Jagr getting injured is good.”

without piece of shit Jagr they will start shooting maybe.

    137. Simon Coward, Canadian idol- Maybe you should be the Canadian Idiot. Hollweg acted? Thats why he lost his hearing and all. Yup he acted all right. He tried to chop a tree down. He put all he had into that hit. an inch lower and his family could have been planning his Funeral right now. So dont come around down playing this.

    138. Fuck you Son of Sam, ur a fucking idiot to call Jagr who fucking carried our team a piece of shit.

    139. Simon Coward, Canadian idol on

go nyfyourself, I didn’t write it, stupid. I quoted another poster. try reading comprehension.

    140. Nice quotation marks. Thats how they teach in Reatarded Canadian Schools? Interesting This is how you quote someone “go nyfyourself, I didn’t write it, stupid. I quoted another poster. try reading comprehension”

    141. Carolina is going to destroy us tomorrow, they are rested and have everybody healthy, it will be ugly for us.

    142. Canadian Idiot- Every time you quote someone you are supposed to used theses things called quotation MARKS “” That is what they look like. If you look next to the semi- colon…. oops you probably dont know what thats for either… so look next to the enter key and there you will find the quotation marks

    143. Simon Coward, Canadian idol on

twit for brains, there are quote marks and my comment was separated by a line, stupid.

I am anti-Simon, but you are too moronic to be able to figure that out.

    144. “yeah, what are you going to do about it, you little turd?”

Faggot, u going to the game tomorrow, where u sitting i’ll come over and kick ur ass bitch.

    145. Typically lines at the bottom represent a signature, But maybe in Canda they do things a little different so I apologize.

But im still gonna call you Canadian Idiot because it is fun

    146. No retard, I don’t waste money to watch Euro trash ballet on ice. But you do, so who is a faggot?

    147. hey hey hey, I know I drop and F-Bomb every once-in-a-while, but is all of this really necessary? Guys…attack what people say, but there is no reason to attack a person. This is a forum for free expression of ideas, so if you disagree with an idea, OK, state your mind. There is no reason for the kind on things being said here.

    148. Reginald Dunlop on

sid the squid is allowed to spear……just check out his spear versus Briere earlier in the season…….no suspension there……double standards…..

    149. Son of Sam – maybe you should change your name. There was a serial killer in NY in the late 70’s by that name. Maybe try Samson out of respect for his victims.
