It’s good to see I wasn’t the only writer to “bang the panic drum in my story today”:http://www.thejournalnews.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20061025/SPORTS01/610250373/1046/SPORTS. But as my counterpart Steve Zipay at Newsday rightly pointed out, this may in part be attributed to the Rangers having too many days off in a row. Give a hockey writer an actual game to write about, and they’re less prone to analyzing every perceived imperfection of a given organization. This may explain why I wouldn’t enjoy covering football.
In other news, I spent last night alternating between the World Series, my new guilty pleasure, “Friday Night Lights,” and the “Penguins youngsters’ 4-2 undressing of the Devils”:http://sports.yahoo.com/nhl/recap;_ylt=Ajhcu4tgOIfWEUCy7fbKutx7vLYF?gid=2006102416.
Um, yeah, they’re pretty good, and the scary thing is, they’re all about 15 years old, meaning they could be together through the next decade and beyond. With the win, the Penguins move two points ahead of the Rangers in the race for the Atlantic Division title.
Not that I’m keeping track yet or anything….
